As the shuttle breached the planets upper atmosphere, other signs that something had happened would become quite clear - the area where the shuttle would soon set down was obviously one of many places that a battle had occured, although it was located behind a number of tall mountains so the area itself had fewer scars that those of the surrounding area.

The LZ was located behind those mountains, in a clearing large enough for not just the shuttle but perhaps three of them. It had some bushes that covered the ground along with a narrow river that cut through the eastern side of the area.

Shuttle

After entering the atmosphere Ume checked the passive sensors for any strange activity, normally she would hit the active ones, but with the stealth system activated she'd rather not send out signals. "Atmospheric entry confirmed, heading towards LZ, arrival time two minutes. Everyone should get ready for departure." AS she approached she kept an eyes on sensors while she ran and automated check on her armor to make sure everything was in working order.

A flicker of motion caught Kakeru's eye as a smaller than expected shape dropped to sublight speeds near the planet's upper atmosphere. The small, dark shape blended well with the black of space and, along with the hull masking, made the shuttle all but invisible to outside observers. If not for the fact that Kakeru was expecting reinforcements near that specific area, it would have been unlikely that he would have spotted the stealthy intruder.

"Hellcat, Dragon 2, insertion shuttle spotted, 2 o'clock low. Looks like the Chu-sa is still holding the Ryujo and the other fighters in reserve. What do we do now? Cover them, stay as recon overwatch or go back for "5"?"

Errowyn was in a quandary. She wanted to return to the YSS Ryujo and get '5'. Yet it was important to provide over-watch till the cloaked shuttle with its valuable cargo aboard was safely on the ground. She calculated the time to return to the YSS Ryujo, get '5' prepped and launched for the return trip. She alone could return to the Ryujo alone, but then that would leave a teammate in the open.

"Dragon2, Hellcat. We stay on station till relieved," Errowyn hated to give the order, but had to trust that back up was forthcoming. She already had a taste of what the recon ship she was flying could do in battle. Even if it was more of a defensive action than full out aggressive actions. Plus Kakeru's inexperience to consider. Not to mention the urge to give into the temptation of her more aggressive nature when lives were at stake.

She switched frequency to the Ryujo's, "Ryujo Actual, Dragon Flight Actual, Hellcat. Worker Bee is pollinating in a few." Referring to the cloaked shuttle loaded with troops. "Scout Bees need heavier replacement."

Holliday sighed as he circled his objective, his eyes lazily monitoring his instruments and the space around him. He had done what he could to stave off boredom and maintain a high-level of alertness, from tapping on the side of the cockpit recreating music he had overheard to flying under and over the Ryūjō, which hopefully didn't freak the Hell out of the bridge crew. "I wasn't that close. I was just uh... Being well-rounded with my rounds. Mmm, indeed." He sighed again and rolled his eyes as he fell into the old habit of making excuses to someone of higher authority, even if it was a theoretical situation in his head. Regardless, his antics didn't succeed in keeping the dentist entertained, as his fighter finally settled into position on the left of his home ship. His thoughts drifted to the other currently active units, the recon flight and the shuttle full of combatants among them. "Good luck everyone." Things would be dreadfully dull if they all ended up dead, didn't need that foolishness. Finally rending himself from his idol rambling, Henry returned to keeping an eye on the Ryūjō.

Shuttle

Masato was grateful for the privacy afforded by the Mindy as he sighed to himself and looked over the topographic map he'd been provided for the umpteenth time, already having saved the damn thing to his digitized memory. Having done this, the engineer - simultaneously experiencing the feelings of extreme boredom and nervousness (brought on by pre-arrival jitters) - once again debated whether to join the conversation between Noa and Nobuharu. It'd give me something to do...but, well, what would I say? I don't even know what departments they're in...

Shuttle

Megami made final checks on her own Mindy before she settled down and took a deep breath. "This could be fun." She said idly trying to keep the mood light for the moment. The lime green Neko honestly still felt a little nervous, but she had long since steeled herself to do what needed to be done for her Captain, Her squad, and her fellow officer who was with her. She, for one, wouldn't let anyone down.

Shuttle

As the shuttle came in closer, Kumiko pointed Ume towards the very edge of the clearing, indicating she should stay as close to the tree cover as possible. Stealthed or not, it didn't make sense to take a risk and leave the shuttle right out in the open, especially given the fine control the Star Army's shuttles were capable of. "Go ahead and put us as close to the trees as you can, we'll go straight into the trees, rather than stay in the open. Once we're down, power everything down, and we'll move out once the shuttle is secured." Kumiko sat back and thought for a moment before speaking again, this time over their radio. "Alright, so, general gameplan is as follows. Riot, you're going to take it slow, as close to a straight line as you can, we're headed straight for the city. Lady will spread out in an arc ahead of you, maintain visual contact wherever possible, no more than five hundred yards away at any time. Riot will set the pace, just make sure you don't go too fast for us to keep you forewarned if we spot something."

At last, the shuttle touched down, and came to rest, with the shuttle doors opening shortly thereafter to allow their small squad to disembark and get moving.

Shuttle

Ume moved the shuttle as instructed, getting it within a dozen meters of the tree line without much difficulty. Once the ship was down she began to shut of primary power, leaving only the auxiliary to operate the doors. Once everyone was out she stepped out as well and closed the doors and remotely shut off power as she headed into the tree line with the others. Being part of team Lady meant she had to act as a sort of scout so she didn't idle around and made her way forward and began looking. Since they were just moving out for now she kept herself only a hundred meters away, till she was sure the area was secure.

Errowyn bored silly, yet alert was spinning her craft along the front to rear of the ship. If anyone was looking physically towards her craft, it would look like a piece of debris floating in space. She was letting the scanners have a better look what was around her. Maybe to catch a tag on something that wasn't suppose to be there in the vicinity.

Shuttle

Noa spent the free time on the journey to double and triple check her Sylph's systems through bandwidth stress tests, partially triggered after that little jib from Nobuharu, and partially because as an information tech junkie that was how she passed the time. The Sylph wasn't exactly a production model any longer, so often times they were dredging up suits from forgotten storehouses to meet the requisition requests. The mini-Neko could see from her warm little command center in the chest cavity that while operating in safe parameters on all major subsystems, the mecha itself did have some very tiny discrepancies in the reaction speed of its internals that showed up. There was little time to get a mechanic to test the wiring fully, so as a workaround she encoded a few routines in the AIES to run in the background and compensate for the millisecond or two in lag time between command and execution. She knew all about how a little lag could kill you in VCE games... and this was now suddenly for real.

Amatsukaze-hei communicated an eager "Ikuzo!", a small rush going through her artificial musculature as the doors opened and her dainty power armor was one of the first headed out into the wilderness beyond. The arcing formation called for by Kumiko for the 'Lady' team was overlaid in augmented reality on her visual feed along with topographical data so she could follow along, sensors coming alive with inputs from the planet's surface and optic camouflage unit set to low power so she would remain detectable to her teammates, though easily able to dial it up and blend into the woodland should trouble arise. Without a handheld gun, the Sylph was certainly very mobile and nimble in this setting, and Noa enjoyed the chance to get ordered to sneak around for once.

Shuttle > Surface

Once the shuttle set down she stood up and moved out of the shuttle and brought her weapon up. Over the comm's she made sure to comment Ume on her exquisite piloting; "Good job, Nito Hei Hatoyama, on such a smooth trip and good landing." Despite her nerves, Megami wanted to keep a rather healthy happiness to her voice to keep the people in spirits and increase morale output. Once she made her comment, she turned and awaited the rest of her team to exit the ship, she had to make sure that each of them were okay after the transition from the ship to the surface, she was pretty sure that they were fine, she still wanted to make sure though.

Surface

Kumiko nodded, mostly to herself, as the squad spread out into the formation she'd asked for, and she moved up to take the foremost point of the screening force herself as they reached their designated distances. "Matonaka-Shoi, go ahead and get your group moving, and keep your eyes and ears open. We should spot anything before it gets to you, but we need you ready in case one of us runs into anything we can't handle on our own." She grimaced a bit, thinking about how thinly spread Lady was, on the off chance they did run into any kind of heavy or well established firepower, but the chance of one of them getting into trouble was still better than risking the entire group instead. "Also, go ahead and call back to the ship, and ask the Chusa to get a second group ready to go, just in case. Probably makes sense to bring a good number of people along with if we need them at all, but leave the exact count to him."

Masato winced as he stumbled slightly upon transitioning from the shuttle's deckplate to the undergrowth of the forest clearing. Handling Powered Armor outside of the controlled, orderly environment of a ship was something that he'd always struggled with, especially when it came to the hyper-reactive Mindy - and the heavy equipment attached wasn't helping matters either. Yet another reason I'm an engineer, not a soldier.

Having managed to survive disembarkation without injury, the Minkan double-timed it towards the others in the treeline. "Here goes nothing..."

The area around the landing site was devoid of most life, except for a few animals that scurried about in the burned out brush and decaying trees. Every so often the sound of a branch breaking the distance could be heard, followed by the rustling of trees due to a gentle breeze. However, the one thing that was constant was the smell of death that permeated the air; it was a racid smell, mixed in with the burning wood.

Somewhere amongst the trees, a small device hidded amongst the dead brush pivoted to watch the team; made out of non-metallic components, it would not be detected by scans.

Surface

"This really doesn't look good." Ume spoke as she looked around the area. "Looks like there was a big battle here recently." She pulled the large blade from it's shoulder mount and readied herself as she continued to look around, making sure not to venture further out than she already was.

Surface

Megami spreads out as ordered and began searching the area. She looked around as she walked motioning for her team to follow, she kept her gun up and used her suit to do a scan of the area to see if anything popped up. "Stay close team."

"A-Aye" replied Masato to the Shoi, his tone at this point that of someone very nervous. Mindy, please initialize the Ke-M2-P3001 and the Conformal Barrier System.

Code:
Acknowledged.

LSHOULDER:ECLOAKPROJ......INITIALIZING (000.00%)
CONFORMAL BARR SYS......INITIALIZING (000.00%)

TIME UNTIL ACTIVATION: 5.000 s

Hopefully this'll put my fears to rest. Granted, it'll drastically increase my energy signature, but we're supposed to be the "heavy-hitters," not the scouts.

Planet's Surface - Landing party
As the group began to move up as a whole, Megami's sensors would begin picking up faint returns from lots and lots of small, remarkably faint power supplies, though their very faintness made it effectively impossible to localize without much, much more in depth scans. For such faint signals, the question became whether or not it was actually worth it to spend too much time narrowing down the possibilities on what they were, when they already knew there were legitimate, established threats ahead of them that needed to be dealt with. As fire team Lady spread out, and made their way forward, taking their time with their progress since Riot wasn't exactly setting any kind of speed records, all four armors running their best, sneakiest sensors ahead of them. After all, there wasn't much point in being sneaky and fast if you stuck a gigantic beacon on yourself by running lots of active sensors.

However, as Riot started to advance into the woods in the general direction of the structures the attack had come from, they brought up their active sensors, the rest of the team following Megami's example. While the multiple data sources helped the suit's AIES systems start to really localize in on the source of those power supplies, but the answer still wasn't much help, as it simply came down to "Lots of them, all over the place." As they progressed further into the ground cover, Sigrid noticed her path was going to pass remarkably close to one of the power supplies, and pushed her sensor's up a fair bit higher, reasoning that since she already knew where it was, the higher power scan would effectively map out at least the shape of whatever contained that power supply, even if her systems couldn't tell her what it actually was. For what it was worth, that assumption was correct, and the AIES, operating as a group, even managed to identify what the objects were a whole second and a half before the projectors they'd spotted triggered, a beam of incredibly focused gravity lashing out as close to the source of the sensors that had pinged it as it could.

Kongo's life was probably saved by the simple fact that as powerful as the beam that struck out at her was, it was not only very narrowly focused, but the projectors weren't capable of a very wide angle of fire, meaning the beam "only" mangled the left side of her body as it triggered, the overpowered tractor beam effectively subjecting her arm and leg to almost 300 times the gravity that any body had evolved or been designed to survive. The projector effectively amounted to nothing more than a slightly more accurate mine, as it burned out in under 3 seconds, but that was more than enough time to do it's damage, crushing the entire left third of Kongo's body, and narrowly missing her head, just barely clipping it enough to knock her unconscious, regardless of the shock from the pain.

-------

Planet's Surface - Ingrid
As soon as the mine went off, Ingrid was in motion, diving directly away from the triggered mind before her conscious mind had even registered what was going on, years of combat training (and no small amount of actual combat situations) giving her reactions the immediacy and fluidity of a veteran. She came up in a crouch, weapon extended, just shy of being kneeling and ready to fire as her eyes immediately started scanning the area trying to figure out what had happened. "We need a medic over here, now!" As her mind finally started to catch up to the situation, she realized that might've been a call she should've left up to Megami, but she felt fairly safe betting that her superior wouldn't have any complaints given the situation. The lack of any immediate attack slowly filtered through and she relaxed slightly, though her weapon remained up and ready to fire just in case, but her eyes were already scanning the area near Kongo's prone armor, looking for any signs of what might've caused it, the task made harder by the spread of the detritus from the projector firing up through the dirt, rather than being placed at surface level to start with.

-------

Planet's Surface - Kumiko
Kumiko's only sign of anything going wrong initially was the way that Kongo's armor system suddenly started reporting failures all over the suit, followed in short order by the armor indicators going black all across the left side of the display, sending a chill down Kumiko's spine as she realized that whatever had just happened, had happened fast, and it was incredibly lethal. Without any further information, there was no telling-

"We need a medic over here, now!"

As soon as the call for a medic came over the net, Kumiko stopped advancing, and put her shoulder up against the nearest tree. The call had come from Ingrid, not Megami, though that was mostly just pure reaction speed, not any indication the Shoi was out of action or otherwise prevented from responding, but Kumiko trusted that Ingrid wouldn't have called for a medic if the situation would just put the medic in danger as well. "Amatsukaze, go. Everyone else, take cover, and keep your eyes open. Until we know what just happened, assume we might be under attack. Matonaka, let the Ryujo know we've encountered some resistance, and we have injured. Make sure Meiko-Juni is ready for incoming wounded and possible soul transfers."

There was nothing worse than having a fighter pilot that spent majority of her time in combat when ever launching form a ship, being inactive with nothing but CAP duty in a substandard aerospace fighter craft. Errowyn letting her mind drift as she thought up ways to bring her true fighter to her, '5'. She was tired of listening to space static, the quietness of tactical frequency between the ground troops and the Ryujo.

Even the acrobatic grew tiresome as she settled her craft near her partners. Flying sedately along, doing her job.
