When Hanako the soon-to-be legendary alien among the Azoreans first made contact with this peaceful aquatic species, she gave them a communicator that vaguely appeared to be some sort of data-pad. Shortly after first contact, the current Viceroy of the time invited several researchers to try to reverse engineer such a device. It took them almost a year, but it was done: a data-pad that could connect to the AGN (Azorean Global Network). A hidden (from the public) translation program, based off of the original communicator's style, was installed on the network that could be accessed when dealing with the respective aliens. Every citizen is allowed to buy it, but it has not been made a mandatory item yet.
The device itself is rectangular and hand-sized, including the fingers and palm. The frame is made out of titanium, but the rest is composed of soft carbon tubing for easy handling. The screen is made of a glass type, of course, and housed inside are water-proof circuits, a small hydrogen cell battery, and an equally small fan to circulate things to power the device and keep it cool. The screen itself is touch-sensitive with a finger or a stylist that comes with it.
