Aingeru Viteri is a player character played by Exhack. He is the commander of the VSS Great Wyrm, an Astral Vanguard starship operating in an advisory position on the Star Army of Yamatai unit known as Task Force Lantern.
Height: 6'5” (195cm)
Weight: 260 lb (120kg)
Build and Skin Color: Aingeru is a tall, broad-shouldered man with a robust and lean build, with an even tan across his body (which is likely the product of cosmetics). His body is marked with intricate black tattoos in abstract swirling patterns that recall the folklore and mythology of the seagoing Hlaraian people, which are hand-made and created with traditional steel needles and natural inks.
Eyes and Facial Features: Brown-eyed and with a strong jawline and cheekbones, Aingeru is inescapably masculine in appearance and bearing.
Ears: Like all Iromakuanhe, Aingeru has the bony horn-like protrusions in the place of normal human ears. He does not adorn them with any unusual paints, etching or jewelry, but does keep them immaculately cleaned and polished to a light shine, with a thin lacquer that stains them a darker shade that accentuates his facial features.
Hair Color and Style: Aingeru has frizzy, dark brown hair that verges on black, usually cropped short and even for the sake of convenience.
Distinguishing Features: Aingeru is, like most members of the Astral Vanguard, as least partially bio-modified for the purposes of his occupation. As a junior officer, his standard modifications mostly extend to increasing his tolerance to space-based hazards such as G-forces, though he's personally paid out of pocket for some other modifications to his body, including enhanced physical abilities that put him on the level of the biomods given to the general infantry. Another thin brace-like implant across his jaw is training his jaw muscles to speak the Nepleslian and Yamataian languages naturally, and doubles as a translator.
He also has a miniature Bistani Graimel roughly three feet long (head to tail) and two and a half feet tall, which functions as a guard animal while he sleeps or otherwise moves around in public. The creature is actually a symbiotic familiar given to him by his mother, which is able to draw nutrients from him via his entry ports or eat normally, though it not an obligate carnivore.
Aingeru Viteri is bold and charismatic, a lead-by-example kind of commander who enjoys playing to the crowd and entertaining the people in his social and professional spheres. It'd be easy to describe him as a glory hound prone to braggadocio, but the realities are a little complex. Very little scares him, and what does he refuses to acknowledge, knowing that others depend on his example to hold through the worst the universe has to offer. He tends to be a little thoughtless about others' feelings, but is always quick to catch himself and attempt to fix the affront.
Likes: Exercise, nice cars, being in charge, being able to give a speech, a good match now and then, the ocean, the beach.
Dislikes: Politics interfering with his career, animal cruelty, a lack of professionalism in subordinates, that feeling when you get hung over without even going to sleep drunk.
Goals: Demonstrate the value and power of his ship and crew to the universe. Other goals include eventually trying a gig in acting, settling down with a wife and kids, and owning his own island somewhere near his hometown.
Aingeru Viteri was born on Hlarai, the peaceful oceanic world that lies between the Iromakuanhe homeworld of Maekardan and the frozen industrial world of Mazerin. The son of a government official in his native city of Lahru and ferry worker, his very first memories were of the beauty of the planet he was born on and the bright teal of the shallow seas that surrounded the planetary capital. He grew up under the firm hand of a fairly traditional household, and managed to pass through his teenaged years without any major rebellions, save for having a few too many girlfriends throughout the later months of his time at the local lyceum and organizing an informal fight club with some of the disaffected youths in his neighborhood.
He joined the military almost immediately after he graduated from his secondary education, figuring it'd be the easiest way to travel around without having pay his way. Even with the discipline that eventually brought, Aingeru never entirely outgrew his love of the odd smackdown, but put his skills organizing his peers to good use by entering the officer's college after finishing basic training. In a way, he reasoned that he was always much more an people-person than a brute, and preferred the position of command over being on the ground as a member of the infantry or frame teams.
Eventually attaining the rank of a junior officer after nearly six years of training, he was assigned his own ship, the VSS Great Wyrm, serving in the exploratory corps of the Astral Vanguard. His ship earned the distinction of being one of the three Vajra-class Heavy Cruisers assigned to the escort of representative Tafari Sadik, as well as one of the first to enter the space of a foreign nation after first contact with the Abwehran peoples. To the point of his most recent assignment his short career has been a series of prestigious missions and honors that were never entirely his, which have earned him little more than the jealousy of his peers.
Some claim it's because the young captain and his crew were selected specifically because they were photogenic and likeable, rather than particularly competent. To those who view him and his subordinates in that light, Aingeru is more than a little eager to prove wrong.
Aingeru is an avid pugilist, wrestler and athlete who takes great care to keep himself in top physical form. His augmented strength doesn't see much use, but he is tremendously strong- even for his substantial height and build, and durable. He practices a combination of martial arts and informal fist-fighting techniques that make him rather dangerous in a straight fight, although his style is very flashy and brutish, depending on his sheer size and ability to look a bit more dangerous than he really is. As well as this, he is trained the use of several hand weapons, including knives, pistols, rifles and light explosives such as grenades.
With his physical form and augmentations, he possesses high endurance and can easily survive situations such as elevated G-forces and light impacts. His skin is slightly knife-resistant, capable of preventing minor cuts from the bladed feathers of his pet Graimel and the usual bruises that come out of surfing on dangerous waters.
As a naval officer candidate, Aingeru has had extensive courses in the use of NI systems aboard the Organoid craft employed by the Astral Vanguard, and understands how to properly utilize his own entry ports to interface with compatible systems. The use of standard-issue electronic devices and conventional computers have also been a part of his education.
Aingeru is capable of using all standard communications found in the Iromakuanhe Astral Commonwealth, in particular those employed by the Astral Vanguard. This includes laser, radio and MASC-enhanced variations in various formats and media. He is fluent in Saalsari and Haidasari, and can speak, read and write it correctly. He can communicate clearly even while under fire or in other unnerving situations.
Due to his recent posting to missions abroad, he wears a symbiotic 'brace' across his jaw which is 'training' him to speak the Nepleslian and Yamataian languages fluently, and functions as a translator. He is not entirely fluent in their usage, but the custom device is useful in giving those capabilities he lacks.
With a history of getting into scrapes, Aingeru is capable of basic medical techniques, including everything up to first aid, emergency care such as CPR or the Heimlich maneuver and the administering of preprepared medicine, such as painkillers or stimulants. There was also a point where he would have known how to perform sutures, but he's not had to put that particular skill to use in nearly nine years.
Aingeru has received extensive training in command and leadership, and has an advanced grasp of standard starship maneuvers and tactics in space and atmospheric conditions. He is capable of making important tactical decisions on the fly, and follow current stratagems to the degree the situation demands and allows. He is able to keep his crew together at all times, keeping fighting effectiveness and composure among his subordinates within workable levels and maintaining a clearly defined chain of command.
Aingeru is certified as a shuttle pilot, and has licenses for the operation of small watercraft such as fishing boats and yachts, land and hovercars, hovercycles and commercial cargo freights, all the products of his teenage years when he legitimately admired his father. He has a passing knowledge of how to operate a starship, although doing so is not his primary responsibility.
Raucus and gregarious, Aingeru is described (or perhaps only styles himself) as a born entertainer, having taken lessons in acting, public speaking and spoken communications. He is familiar with a half-dozen styles of dance, moonlights as an amateur lounge singer (for his crew) and somewhat embarrassingly, knows how to play the harp at an advanced amateur level due to lessons from his mother.
