Clustered Map System

The Clustered Map System (CMS) is the division and reorganization of Star Army's traditional star map (which had all star systems on the main map) into smaller individually mapped clusters of star systems.

Kikyo Sector

Purpose

The reorganization served several purposes:

  • To require less updates of the main map
  • To make the main map much neater and easier to read
  • To allow individuals to frequently update sector maps
    • Maps can be updated by persons other than the Setting Manager)
    • Decentralized updating allows us to show battles, plot ship positions, etc
  • To increase travel time in general but not for neighboring systems

Changes

Major changes to the map system include:

  • The map has been split into a main map and cluster maps for each cluster of star systems. Clusters are marked on the main map.
  • Grids ahve been added for easy positional reference
  • The distance between systems in different clusters is larger than before, increasing travel time between non-neighboring systems

Map Standards

Microsoft Bold Extended ATT is the standard font. It should probably remain that way unless a more appropriate and more sci-fi font is chosen, to keep the articles looking fairly professional.

Size 12 for worlds and objects. Size 18 for major landmarks and the LY counter on 50-100 LY maps, minor ones on 200+. Size 24 is standard for major landmarks on 200 LY+ maps and the size marker for those. 36 is generally only used for the title of a map.

Star Systems are marked with a size nine hard brush, in white. Stations were done with a size 4. It's optional, and was only carried over if it was on the original map.
