"Misfire on her AT gun, blew her fucking head off." Fian replied, panthing. He said it without a hint of sadness, it was only a stranger that died to him. "Girl, your body will heal, but the mind is not so resilient. Keep that helmet on at all times, maybe even weld something extra on it since you have a stronger neck."

He then looked around for, hopefully, an Italian bike or bicycle. Running to the evac point with radio gear and the code machine on top of being non NECO didnt sound very appealing to him.

Jane hardly knew Rosy. She hardly knew anyone but Riikka and Valerie.

She reached up to her shoulder and yanked out the splinter, wincing with her eyes while her lips stayed flat. She reloaded again, stood up and nodded to the lieutenant.

She took a forward position around him as he ran out to shoot off his flare amid the light of the rising sun. She also could see the column of German reinforcements headed their way, a mile off. It wouldn't be too long until the group was in range of the Germans' self-propelled guns. They needed to hurry.

"Lieutenant," she said as he looked around for transport. "Corporal Rosenthal. I can take the code machine, sir; lighten your load."

Tiff was doing much the same as the other two, but had a different idea.

"I've got stamina to bleed... If she takes my rifle I can carry you piggyback sir. Even if we move only slightly faster, I can still keep at a good pace." She explained, already starting to take her rifle from her back to hand off to Jane. Tiff had always been in great shape from all the moving she had to do in the mountains. Couple that with her new found abilities after the Neco project, well this could be a solution.

Robert started helping Riikka as she set up her booby traps on the bodies of the dead Italian soldiers, he'd seen this done before during the bloody fighting for the island of Guadalcanal in the Solomons. "So how likely do you think this is to slow them down?" He asked as he continued priming grenades and laying them under the corpses using the corpse to keep the spoon depressed and make it so that when the body was moved the grenade would detonate. He'd also keep a watch towards the castle and up the road as he moved between corpses, making sure not to bump any of the ones that Riikka had already rigged traps to.

"Paska, Private." Riikka motioned to the bodies nearest the paratrooper, "I know you may not like it, but these are vihollisia. Enemies. They'd do the same to any of us if they thought they needed to, to survive."

Well, these particular fools probably wouldn't. They were peasants and farmers likely, to the last, but Riikka wasn't about to argue the finer points. But she didn't feel like Morgan needed to be chewed out further, if at all. She could hardly blame him: this wasn't the kind of thing he was trained to do. She picked a few of the bodies at random and rigged them with their own grenades. Once that was done she looked to Robert.

"Long enough. The mines won't set off their mine-detectors and disarming the grenades will take a long time. Which means they'll want to avoid vaivata and just go around if they can. Any vehicles coming up the road will have to wait for a bit, though. Even these vauvoille will take out a tire or a tread." It was then that she looked up and noticed the flare.

"That's the signal then. So they've got it." She looked to Morgan, "Can you run fast, Private?" Then to Robert, "Are you good? The elimet rigged? I don't think we should stay behind much longer."

After the Ceiling was destroyed with extreme prejudice and the noise and thunder died down, Valerie uncupped her ears and looked at pieces of plaster and stone falling away from the ceiling in slivers and chunks. "W-wait. Rosy? Dead?" Valerie replied as the LT gave the report. "Curses, I hardly knew her..." She looked at the destroyed Anti-Materiel rifle lying near her corpse, getting stained red with the pool of blood on the floor. She would've taken it up if it wasn't broken.

She took inventory and realised that her equipment wasn't suited for armour destruction - her Mills Bombs would only be effective if she climbed onto one of the vehicles and tossed it into the hatch. The best she could do from a distance was snipe out exposed gunners with her SMLE. She holstered her revolver and pulled the SMLE off of her back. She made a quick check to ensure that the magazine had ten bullets in it, pushing a stripper clip into it before following and covering the Lieutenant. "Cat, we're leaving!" she yelled to her fellow Commonwealth soldier.

She traipsed out of the castle and across the field, looking back at Castellucio, and listening to the sounds of the engines rushing towards them from afar, no doubt commanded by the German contingents in Sicily. She would've offered to carry the code machine with Jane, possibly carrying it between them, but Valerie had to stay on watch with her gun up as the group retreated with the objective.

"Yeah, I'm good. Bodies are rigged, time to didee" Robert replied as he looked at the others before taking off towards the evac point. Now free of the encumbrance of his BAR and its magazines he took advantage of his height and belied his mass as he took off at a dead sprint towards where they were supposed to meet up for the evac to friendly lines.

"So we looze our only Anti-Armour specializt and zen ze sheet hits ze fan?" Antoinette said walking out of the room she was in. When the ceiling started exploding she had curled up under a table and weathered the storm and was just now geting out of the room, lucky finding the others right outside. "Anyone have any bon idees?"

"I didn't spend an hour running up a mountain everyday for nothing." Morgan said with a sigh as he jogged after Roberts. His boots crunching on the hard dirt. "So, where are we running to?"

Clair gritted her teeth and bit back a scream of pain as she took a grazing shot to the arm, then felt the sharp pain of wood from her Bren's stock exploding between her arm and torso as the grazing bullet blasted it apart.

She looked down to see what ruin had been done upon her precious Bren gun and yelled in rage as she raised the damaged weapon and added her own rounds to the fire that finished off the Italians above them. The next few minutes happened fast. She assesed her wounds as news that the onjective had been taken and that enemt heavy armor was on the way all came about the same time.

She uttered a stream of curses as sbe ensured she was not going to bleed out, then shouldered her damaged weapon on her good side and got out her lighter carbine.

Then news of Rosie's death came. Clair cursed, she liked the American and was angry she had been killed. Clair had hoped everyone would have made it out alive, even if it had been an unrealistic hope.

"Alright, we exfiltrate now and give cover fire for the package as our people get it to the extraction point" Clair ordered. There would be time to mourn their fallen comrade later, if they made it out.

"Move!"

"That is good to know!" Riikka exclaimed working to keep pace with the paratrooper, "We are leaving now. You will follow me and the good Corporal!"

With that she fished her whistle from the string about her neck and gave a series of whistles as loud as she could. While Morgan would hear nothing from it, her fellow NECOs would surely recognize the signal of "danger" coming from Riikka's direction running up the road towards their flare.

Through Cat's scope, she could see the enemy column quite easily, though all of her targets were small. Her patience and skill were, however, up to the task set before her. the shot, once the trigger had been squeezed, flew about, taking entirely too long to reach its intended target. despite only taking three seconds, it seemed to take an eternity as a combination of adrenaline and catherine's heightened senses decided to mess with her perception of time. Long after the crack of the rifle went off, Cat's scope picked up its arrival- very close to its destination. The German's helmet was hit, just in front of the man's eyes, blowing the steel pot off of his head and causing him to tumble backwards, blinded by shards of metal and shocked by the sudden explosion of lead and steel in his face. The entire column stopped suddenly, now wary of possible snipers. Cat had bought them a few spare moments' time.

As everyone left the castle, the timer Fian had set on the explosives placed on Rosy's body finally went off, and a dull THUD was heard from the roof, along with a puff of smoke. Moments later, the sounds of stone collapsing in on itself followed, along with gouts of dust as the roof collapsed, caving in and piling on top of the bodies of the dead defenders. April heard Riikka's signal whistle and noted the direction "Looks like they're settin' up some traps on the road. we best get to tha field fer now, Ah think..." she suggested, following her own words and diverting around the dead Italians.

About the same time the SORT was finally reunited for the first time, Sans Rosy, but now containing Morgan, the naval bombardment began raining down on the area. Nearby fields were suddenly engulfed with fire and explosions as the large naval rounds impacted, some nearer the German column, some nearer the SORT. When a naval shall landed on the castle, collapsing a portion of the southern wall, it prompted April to speak up. "Uhh, Sir, Would yah kindly give tha order tah scoot? Ah think it might be best if we wasn't round here anymore, if ya get mah meanin'..."

Riikka kept a steady pace with Morgan, waving for him to follow her as she spotted the group gathering, and heading for the field. She announced herself with a wave and a sharp whistle to make sure they could see her. Once she was closer Riikka shot a salute to the Lieutenant -- just in time for the Finn to hear the explosion coming from the roof of the castle. A back-and-forth glance to take stock quickly brought her to realize that not every NECO was present but she hardly had time to ask what had happened. Soldiers died in war and it was always going to be like that. They could all mourn later but right now, they had to move.

And then the shelling had started.

Riikka thumbed to Morgan, "I hope nobody minds the new team member. We've got room on the boats by the count!" She shouted over the sound of shelling, "Now, hyvät naiset ja herrat, I'll take point!"

She made sure her shotgun was loaded and moved to take her trained spot as the pointwoman of the group, but before she did she grabbed Morgan by the shoulder and motioned to Robert, "Stay in his back pocket, Vauva, and you'll be fine!"

Morgan looked over at Robert and back to Riikka. "That Kraut for sum'in?" he asked quizzically, not understanding what she was saying at all. But he did start sticking behind Robert, at the very least the taller man seemed to know what he was doing a little.

Then, something occurred to Morgan. "Did someone say boats?" asked. "I hate boats."

Fian did a quick headcount and confirmed this was everyone from the original drop except Rosy plus one more extra in the form of Morgan. Wow, this is the complete opposite of what happened in China, has my luck changed? He unslung his Radio pack and the Code Machine and handed them over to Tiff. "These weight lighter than I do, I think I can run the few miles to the boats, probably." He hoped the very long convalescent leave the army gave him in the aftermath of China didn't take too much off his fitness.

"Good work, people. Now all to the boats! Blow on your whistle if you get into trouble. Don't bunch up and I'll see you on the other side!"

"Eet iz finlandais. sot American." Antoinette said catching up to the group. Once the sound for retreat sounded her french instincts kicked in and she had haulled ass back towards the designated point.

"Zats eet? C'est le plan baise! J'espère que vous pourrez suivre lieutenant parce que mon court cul ne vous donne pas un ferroutage pour les bateaux maudits!"

Cathrine frowned, she aimed wrongly. She wanted to hit the chest, but aimed hight then she should. Still it did the job. She still had a bit of time. She aimed on another soldier who was looking around seemingly not sure what was going on. Breath out, aim, pull trigger. BLAM. Few seconds then she saw a bit of red mist and soldier fell down. She aimed to someone else. Soldier hiding by a truck, unsure from where Catherine fired. Breath out, aim, pull trigger. BLAM. Red mist. Catherine cycled new round. A driver of a truck. Breath out, aim, pull trigger. BLAM. Miss. But it made him jump out and run off the road into the ditch.

Catherine checked her watch. It was time. "See ya in heaven Rosy!" The canadian shouted to the dead body and jumped down the hatch. Two floors down she landed with an 'Umph', but kept moving. The lack of floor on second floor made it easier for her to exit the tiny castle. Out of the window and then she ran towards the rest of her team. She caught up as Fian was explaining the plan.

"Good to see you all," Cat crouched by Riika. She looked around and counted. All the NECOes were here except Rosy. Only one death, that was good. Well not good, but it was not really bad. Rosy even died to something no one had any control over. That means the program is not failure. Everyone was hurt in some way, but they will heal. "April got a tweezers handy? I got a shrapnel in my arse and it is gettin on my nerves." Catherine also wished that the frenchie and Riika would just use english why talking.

"See y'all at the boats" Robert said as he took off at a ground eating lope, his Thompson at the ready as he headed towards the boats just in case he ran into an ambush by some strange twist of fate. Better by far to be prepared for something that never happened than not to be prepared enough for something that did.

Clair took up the rear as the group retreated. She played down cover fire with her carbine
as everyone fell back. She saw st least two bad guys go down. She gritted her teeth, the kickback from each shot fired caused a good deal of pain to spike from her wounds, she could feel every piece of splintered wood stuck in her flesh.

"Damnit to hell" she growled at the pain and fired another volley. She was rewarded by the scream of an enemy as he went down with several new holes.

Satisfied, she turned and booked it, catching up with the others.

"Boats? Uh...Oh right! Boats! Gotcha, see ya there!" She pipped up, taking the items from Fian as she turned and headed off, taking a looping path around and staying away from her comrades. A little slower then usual due to the new items she had in the code machine and radio pack, but she had volunteered and would take on the burden. Unslinging her rifle she kept it in hand and at the ready just in case she ran into trouble, making sure to keep at a decent pace and stay well away from bunching up.

She would eventually arrive a little after the first few of the group if she didn't run into any trouble on the way.
