A new sub human!

Oh Star Army, it's not like I like you or anything. Quit bending my arm, I'll join already, geez! :/

*Ahem*

Yeah. Hi. I'm Primitive, which in English means "I'm not very good at making up usernames".

I like retro games, grimdark or cyberpunk anime/manga, sci-fi novels, kaiju movies, the usual junk. I'm reasonable artist, with a taste for the weird and eccentric, but also realistic machines and mecha. You'll probably see some of it sooner or later, so you can judge quality for yourself.

Been part of a lot of RPs before, but with those growing kinda stagnant in flavor, it has lead me to looking for a fresh start in a new one, as of late. The sci-fi and militaristic concepts of this place appeal to me. Well, that and the sheer scale and depth. Like, just look at it.

Character wise, I like creating strange and ungainly things with dumb exteriors but cunning hearts. Sometimes dumb both inside and out, that's pretty fun too. Almost always just a little offbeat, but no special snowflake universe-saviors here. A red-skinned Nekovalkyria medic with a ruthlessly practical personality and boundless energy is what comes to mind. I'll probably end up lurking a little more until I get a better idea of how the threads flow, through.

Cheers for having me aboard.

Oh! Polygon-sempai noticed me!! *blush*

Hello and welcome to Star Army! I'm Wes, the founder dude of this long-running and always-welcoming conglomeration of sci-fi goodness and community of roleplayers. I'm glad to have you aboard and you sound like you'll fit in well. It's good to meet you and I hope you like us enough to stay for years! If there's anything I can do to help you get involved let me know. I'm more than happy to answer your most obscure, obvious, thought-provoking, silly, or lewd questions about the setting, so send them my way here in the thread or in the roleplay and setting discussion forum. Even though the SARP universe is expansive, it has gaps we can fill in together (via RP and/or wiki updates) as well as plenty of room for you to add your own stuff.

You mentioned making a Nekovalkyrja. It just so happens I have some room for new Nekovalkyrja on the YSS Eucharis so we might end up writing together, if you're interested.

Also, what are some of your favorite things so far that you've discovered?

Hum. That's a toughy to get down to specifics, since I honestly haven't read through a great deal of the actual RP logs yet. I guess new players are a little spoiled by your Wiki in that way. If I had to say anything really drew me in, it was the sheer weight of original artwork that impressed me initially; Both 3D and traditional. Hell, I think it was Weremole's work on the type 28 environmental suit that first sparked my memory that this place existed. After having another gander, it was the consistency that set it apart. Combined with the setting it really rather reminds me of golden oldie anime like Gal Force or even a little Appleseed. The Mindy in particular certainly has Bubblegum Crisis vibes, and that is no bad thing in my book.

As for questions... I guess the exact speed of the threads is what confuses me most. I know about the two day deadline for the YSS Eucharis, but how exactly does this function in practice? Is supposed to be the ranking officer "dragging" the squad in combat situations, like a sort of pseudo-GM, as in other RPs, or are things utterly left up to the individual to follow orders?

I'm certainly interested, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared of treading on a few toes with dumb character concepts. Excuse the art plug, but I guess I like things being a little off model. The quality of the posts makes leaping in with silly crap a bit... Intimidating.

Obviously making it fit the universe takes priority, I totally get that.

Basically, if a player doesn't keep pace with the plot, the GM is empowered to keep the plot moving anyway, by posting for that character if necessary or just assuming the character didn't do anything notable. The one to worry about more is the 1-week limit, which is when I may start looking for ways to remove a character for inactivity. During the various major wars of SARP's past I'm notorious for violently killing characters whose creators disappeared without any notice. I try to be flexible as long as I am kept informed, so if you have to be out for a week to take finals or care for a sick relative, that's fine with me.

It depends on the plot and GM. Since I run a military plot, GM guidance typically comes in the form of orders from command and the ship's captain, who arranges most of the missions. In Eucharis, Hanako often asks for input from the crew in the planning process. Once the players are in action, I mainly describe the setting and NPCs and push the passage of time, while the players move the story by doing stuff. It's a group effort.

Cyborgs are allowed in the Star Army, if you want to make one. Is that your art?

Yeah, it's my art. Not really the best examples even, but most of the stuff I've properly photoshoped and completed lately has been for professional things that don't really suit my tastes. S'why I was trying to avoid showing off until I could produce new things, really. Well, that and looking like a swelly nelly.

In a similar vein, one insanely specific question springs to mind; Do the pulse weapons have actual round/square barrels, or is it just a flush metal plate? It's kind of hard to tell given the angles that they are often shown at.

As for the "sudden death" policy, I can relate, since I've even advocated GMs to do similar things in the past. Thanks for the information.

Cyborgs, erm... I'm still pretty clueless about and am reading up information on. Something that outlandish is probably overkill, but... Don't tempt me, hah. Exactly what species/occupation combinations will restrict me from what threads is kinda difficult to discern, so I'm just really trying to stick to the basics for now.

I make art too, although it's not really pro-grade so I feel you on the artistic perfectionism front. For pulse weapons, I always figured they have a barrel of sorts, although it's probably got some sort of lens(?) down in there. When it doubt, draw it like a familiar IRL gun, I guess.

I just mentioned cyborgs because of the art examples.

The big thing is Nekovalkyrja are largely unwelcome outside of the YSE, especially in Nepleslia where they are illegal, since they're natural born cloned killers (whereas Nepleslians are just raised as killers, lol).
