DEFCON Everybody Dies
This plot is mostly intended to be an interesting historical footnote based on a series of unfortunate assumptions, misconceptions, and reactions on the part of those parties involved, those being the Sesestran Colonial Union and a patrol task force of the Star Army of Yamatai. The plot will take place over two parts, the first being a fighter squadron action and the second being a PA squad action consisting of a specialized and newly created unit of landing forces from a special selection of Yamatai's neko legions. So you will need two characters for this encounter!
In this case the item concerned is the Yamataian claimed system of Akiko, a colony which has changed hands nearly four times in recent history the most recent abandonment resulting in all traces of Yamatai's existence on it being scoured for the purpose of denying the NMX any war spoils. Aside from the recent creation of a lighthouse on it's surface and the monthly visit of a patrol craft from the fleet responsible for the area the system has sat uninhabited and abandoned.
Our story will begin with the Sesestrans having been freed from their nearly millennia long imprisonment and now free from it expanding with a fervor from their holdings. In this case the three systems between the entry to their nebulous home and the core of SARP's main civilizations. Oblivious to the politics, the powers, and the history, and merely looking to satisfy their very human need to expand from their overcrowded hole in the wall. As a result the abandoned systems of the bard cluster have landed in their sights, specifically the Akiko system.
The plot itself will pickup roughly thirty days after the Sesestrans arrived in system, having begun a fervent effort to establish the basic infrastructure and defensive capabilities to support a long term colonization effort. Of course their expansion would have caught the attentions of SARP's darker side, a newly emerged human civilization would be prime pickings for NMX remnants, pirates, and slavers that doubtlessly exist this far out from the core. As a near tragic result of these encounters the Sesestrans will be on something akin to a shoot first and ask questions later to anything resembling SARP's higher tech power plants (NMX aether powerplants). With the increased security concerns the Sesestrans have moved one of their task forces in system along with the first of the planet's colonial ground force contingents.
The Yamataian side will be composed of a specialty task force put together with the intention of being a self contained 'problem solving' force with its own landable ground forces. This task force is intended to be used to deal with the same threats the Sesestrans have run into all the way down to landing troops to flush out and destroy NMX or pirate installations on the surface of planets. Of course as they arrive in system they'll be fresh from one such engagement, one which has left them rattled and prepared to make their own rapid assumptions after loosing a few ships to their previous engagements.
The Plot Itself
The Akiko/Vern Conflict
A rocky political introduction into the world of the Kikyo Cluster for the recently freed Sesestran Colonial Union and a fertile testing ground for new theories of warfare and technology for both sides involved. Despite the conflicts intensity it was the simple result of miscommunication, assumptions, and finally the simple consequence of of two parties being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The focus of this strange war and political tale is the six V8 fighters of the YSS Kovina, an Urufu class light cruiser escorting Task Force Youkai-38's capital ship the YSS Yamashiva a Super Eikan class heavy cruiser. The task force itself, long overdue for a return to port and a long rest for it's crew was redirected to Akiko after strange sensor readings finally made themselves known after six months of the system's patrol schedule being neglected. Tired, stressed, and still on edge after less then a few days of quiet regrouping after a rough encounter with a significant force of brigands, a fight which cost the fleet two ships, they now find themselves being thrust back into action with an unknown party speaking an unknown language on the other side.

This plot will have six slots and begin with the assumption of all the characters involved having known each other for at least six months to a year, your characters are tired, stressed, and obviously on edge after having been forced into a long term of patrolling the slime pits at the edge of Yamataian space. With relief, something which was just in your grasp, being pulled from you and getting kicked back into a combat situation.
Your small close knit unit serving on board a vessel which is under the command of someone who appears to be waging her own personal crusade against whom she views as enemies of the state (perhaps even hated among her own subordinates?).
We have six birds to fill and I believe four are called!
