Holiday Contest

A new Roleplaying Tips contest is long overdue, so let's get
one going while we are on the topic of holidays with this
week's issue. As you'll read, game world holidays can serve
several GMing purposes, including world design, adventure
inspiration, and seamless encounter design. They are useful
little tools, those holidays.

Contest Entry

Create a holiday and describe it in roughly 1-3 paragraphs.
Please use this format:

E-mail your entries in one e-mail message or several to
[email protected]

You can submit as many entries as you like.

As usual, entries will be edited and then re-posted in this
e-zine so all GMs will benefit from your creativity.

Contest entry deadline is December 17, 2006. Winners will be
selected randomly from the pool of entries, so don't worry
if writing isn't your strong suit.

Here's a chance for Star Army to shine in the RPG community, and for us to grab some free stuff! Not to mention the excellent opportunity it presents for adding to Yamataian and Nepleslian culture, both of which could use more detail.
 
This is something I can do, Wes. If you present them with the proper format, I can come up with a holiday. For example... The day the Yamataian Government was formed?

We may have to come up with a calendar first, lol.
 
Indeed, that might be a good idea - since as far as I know, real-world religions (in an ambiguous form) still exist in this setting; it's just that most people don't practice (especially if they're nekos).
 
But you'd still have to assume that some sort of religion exists within the Yamataian empire. On that note, do we even know what happened before the Yamataian Empire?

(Assuming YE = Yamataian Era, what happened Pre-YE?)
 
Meta day, where all our characters are suddenly at the same place for an unknown reason. The events that unfold on this day are not canon, and life returns back to normal the day after like it never happened.
 
Cmon, it would be fun. On the aniversary of the SARP? (To celebrate something Meta-ish)

Here is an example of an SP on that day.

Melchoir was goofing off and was surfing porn in the safety of his penthouse office. The day seems just like any other day, untill a shadow crept up behind him. Quickly turning around, he saw that the shadow belonged to his younger brother Fian, who was supposed to be figthing a war somewhere far away. The younger Vel Steyr was wearing a Phalanx Power Armor with his SIAR held menacingly in his hands.

"F-f-f Fian!" Melchoir stammered in surprise, only to be met with the butt of Fian's rifle. Smilingly, Fian first hit the scientist in the head for a good concussion, then proceeded with one to the stomach, sides and face. While his elder brother was lying down he continued the blows untill his suit confirmed that all of Melchoir's ribs were broken.

"W...w...w...why...?!" Melchoir moaned, at that, he died.

"Its Meta day, fuckface." Was Fian's curt reply.
 
I'm all for something like that. I think an OOC holiday or two would really invite friendship among members that don't often RP together, or, rather, don't even know each other at all.
