Firstly, I know this has certain similarities to spider-man. Drop it. I beg of you. It actualy makes sense, and I was not think spider-man when I developed it. However your helpful advice would be most ... helpfull. Also I haven't quite come out with a price yet.

Does this qualify as an unarmoured high manouverablity space suit?

Emrys Industries
Em-EVA-1a Dusk

1. About the Dusk 1a

The Dusk 1a is the first EVA suit designed as part of the Dusk project of Emrys Industries. It uses a polymer body suit to protect against the rigours of EV activity, including managing heat and cold extremes, and resisting the radiation of space. The polymer coving the inflexible parts of the body are reasonably flexible, allowing for some movement, but are not as flexible as the joints which barely restrict movement. The entire suit clings to the body tight, for better manoeuvrability.

2. History and Background

As once of Seru's many, many ideas, the Dusk project was set up, a project for the creation and improvement upon environmental and EVA suits. The 1a is the first creation of this project, made for high manoeuvrability, especially in space.

3. Dimensions
Organizations Using This Suit:
NovaCorp
Star Army
Any other interested parties
Type: EVA/ Environmental suit
Class: Dusk 1a
Designer:
Emrys Industries Research and Development teams
Manufacturer: Emrys Industries
Production: Will be in all Emrys Industries ships in the future, until a newer model is brought out, production capabilities will be increased to handle other organisations intrest.

Appearance: The Dusk 1a looks to be a black body suit that covers the entire body, and a smooth helmet.

Length: Comes in a variety of sizes, around an inch larger than the wearer.
Width: Comes in a variety of sizes, around an inch larger than the wearer.
Height: Comes in a variety of sizes, around two inches larger than the wearer.

4. Performance Statistics
Speed (STL): The Dusk 1a does not have its own propulsion, and relies on the wearers own ability to walk and navigate and use the grappling threads and magnetic pads to get around.

Range (Distance): The Dusk 1a is not made to travel far from the ship it was on. It will not find it easy to get back without assistance.
Range (Support): The Dusk 1a is highly efficient at recycling oxygen. Thus a wearer of the Dusk can actually survive three days simply in the suit (this is using a human as the base wearer).
Lifespan: The Dusk 1a is resilient, but being exposed to extremes tends to erode at it slowly, and the grappling threads need to be replaced. It is not recommended that a single suit should be used for more than six months, if used frequently.
Refit Cycle: The Dusk project is ongoing, new suits will be brought out, as will variations of the 1a.

5. Inside the Dusk 1a

The inside of the Dusk is like a thick rubber tube that presses in on the body. Although it feels tight, movement is unimpeded, a simple movement of the limb will have the same effect on the suit, due to the nature of the polymer. The helmet has simple sensors in it, and a transparent surface to see through, which a screen can be superimposed upon. There is also a microphone in the form of a small tube that goes next to the mouth, which the wearer can use to communicate using radio or laser. There is a lamp built into the helmet, powered by the back pod with on/off switch. There is a strip of fabric/hook-and-pile where a soldier can pin his or her rank. On the outside there is one belt around the waist, containing the gapling thread device, the oxygen canisters, and several utility pouches, that can contain all variety of items. There are another two belts, one on each upper thigh, that contain other utility pouches. On the back of the suit there is a pod that contains the oxygen and waste recycling ststems, and the sub-space radio.

6. Suit Systems

Skin: The ‘skin' of the suit, is made of a specialised polymer, highly resistant to both heat, cold, and cosmic radiation. Inside the suit the wearer is safe from the extremes of space. It also is wired with movement sensors on the inside, which can sense electronic currents in the nerves running through the body, and replicate the same movements in the suit, using electric currents to cause parts of the polymer to retract and some to unretract. This makes the suit like a second skin. The Skin is impact resistant, but not greatly so, for more piercing resistant. It is very hard to peirce the polymer, it bends but doesn't break. It is not made for combat situations, and will not fare well against energy weapons, even though it can survive great heat. Over the polymer is a heavily acid resistant layer of polymer, which also covers all the aditional components.

Grappling thread: The Dusk 1a has a device on its belt which fires a specialised thread polymer, which sticks to surfaces, and is flexible, even in the freezing vacuum of space, allowing for the suit to get around, and not be left floating unable to get back to the ship. The device has enough polymer in it to fire around a hundred of these threads, each one extending fifty metres, although a longer thread can be made by expending more polymer. Although it can not be retracted, it can be used to pull ones self along, and a secondary function on the device cuts the thread off. The thread is strong enough to hold the wearer and suit easily, and some additional weight. The grappling action is activated by one button on the device, the cut off by another.

Air Cans: On each side of the suits belt there is a small can of highly compressed air, that can be used to get around.

Magnetic pads: On the palms and the feet of the suit are magnetic pads that can be used to climb magnetic surfaces. These where going to be used as the sold way of getting around, but then someone brought up that some of the super materials aren't magnetic, so the grappling thread was developed.

Environmental Systems: The environmental systems of the Dusk 1a, stem from its high resilience in extreme situations, and its ability to recycle air well. There are tubes for the wearer to urinate into, conected to a micro refinery, which uses specialised bacterium and micro-organisms to filter it, and return the water by way of other tubes, that the wearer can drink from. The micro refinery is in the back module.

Air Recycling System: The air recycling system of the Dusk 1a is very efficient inside the back module, and uses a combination of specialised catalysts and organics to split carbon dioxide into oxygen again. Water vapour is also condensed and can be delivered back to the wearer. There are also aditional capsules of oxygen in the legs, allowing for longer breathing time, and a back up if the back module is damaged.

Sensor and Computer Systems: The Dusk 1a has a functional set of sensors and a computer.

Central Computer System: On the Dusk 1a, the computers main task is to monitor the sensors that navigate the electric currents through the polymer. The computer has a location system and heads-up display in the helmet displaying the estimated amount of life support time remaiting, the location of the home base, or other chosen waypoint, and markers for degrees.

Sensors: The sensors of the Dusk 1a are primarily ones on the inside of the suit that monitor the electric currents through the body, judging the brains commands to move the limbs. However it also has cameras on the outside of the helmet that can see into the infrared spectrum.

Wristwatch: This digital display on the left arm has a time display (with button-activated backlight) and envioromental tester, capable of measuring oxygen, chemical agents and raditation type and levels.

Communication: The Dusk 1a can communicate using radio and laser. In the backpod there is a small subspace radio system tied to the helmet with a range of 500,000 miles, also capable of being used for an emergency distress beacon.

Weapons:

The Polymer also does increase the wearers strength, and if worn planet side, it can be used for its increased strength and durability.

My computer got hot and froze, and I lost the reply I had, so I'm going to summarize here:
  • Recycling shouldn't be taking place in the breathing area (that's dangerous and highly ineffecient). I suggest conformal pods on the back (for recycling and oxygeon storage) and legs (alternate location for pods, or a good place for additional oxygen. Humans only breath out half as much oxygen as they breath in so you'll need some supply or you'll have nothing to recycle.
  • I suggest a belt, with the grappling thread device (1) on it instead of the arms, plus a small can of compressed air on either side of the belt for getting around. Grappling line shooter would be attached to the belt with a lanyard, so it wouldn't float away accidentally.

Additional belts would be around the thighs (right one with a pistol holster) and attached by drop-down straps to the waist belt. Pounches for carrying things (like an ADN card, medical kit, or grenades) could be attached in a modular fasion to all belts.
  • The back pod would contain a small subspace radio system tied to the helmet with a range of 500,000 miles, also usable for an emergency distress beacon.
  • Since the grappling system and air shooters would be on the belt, do away with the magnetic boots and gloves.
  • Add a way for the soldier to drink and pee inside the suit, since 3 days is a long time to hold it (think tubes, like US Army gas masks have).
  • Why not just let the soldier use their own muscles to move instead of using sensors and piezoelectrics? I don't see any point overcomplicating it. Discard these, the sensors (besides enviromental monitors), and the computer. The intent is for a nice space suit, not a armorless power armor.
  • A strip of fabric/hook-and-pile (Velcro) where a soldier can pin his/her rank (optional).
  • Lamp built into the helmet (can be powered by back pod) with on/off switch. Basic computer with location sysetm and head-ups display in helmet displaying estimated life support time remaining, location of home base (or other waypoint), and markers for degrees (so the soldier knows which way he's facing).
  • Acid-resistant coating on the suit skin and components. Suit will probably be used in nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare environments.
  • Concentrate less on impact resistance (not so important) and a lot more on puncture resistance.
  • Wristwatch with time display (with button-activated backlight) and environmental tester (oxygen/chemical agent/radiation levels).
If these changes are made (or another suit with these features is made), I think the Star Army will order this suit by the millions.

Alright. What I'm going to do is make a lot of those alterations to this suit, and design a second one, the Dusk 1b, which will allow for the wearer to use their own muscles. I like this design a little too much to remove.

I'm working on the adaptions.

Alright, this is the modified, 1b model. Any further recomendations?

Em-EVA-1b Dusk

1. About the Dusk 1b

The Dusk 1a is the second EVA suit designed as part of the Dusk project of Emrys Industries. It uses a polymer body suit to protect against the rigours of EV activity, including managing heat and cold extremes, and resisting the radiation of space. The polymer coving the body is extremely flexible and barely restricts movement. The entire suit clings to the body tightly, for better manoeuvrability. This version of the Dusk does not use the electronic sensors and smart materials to move the suit, allowing the wearers muscles to do it instead.

2. History and Background

As once of Seru's many, many ideas, the Dusk project was set up, a project for the creation and improvement upon environmental and EVA suits. The 1b is the first creation of this project, made for high manoeuvrability, especially in space, but less of a luxury model as the 1a.

Refit Cycle: The Dusk project is ongoing, new suits will be brought out, as will variations of the 1b. This can be seen by the refinment of the 1a into the 1b.

5. Inside the Dusk 1b

The inside of the Dusk is like a thick rubber tube that presses in on the body. Although it feels tight, movement is unimpeded, the polymer yields easily to movement, since the joints are significantly more flexible than the rest of the body. The helmet has simple sensors in it, and a transparent surface to see through, which a screen can be superimposed upon. There is also a microphone in the form of a small tube that goes next to the mouth, which the wearer can use to communicate using radio or laser. 6. Suit Systems

Skin: The ‘skin' of the suit, is made of a specialised polymer, highly resistant to both heat, cold, and cosmic radiation. Inside the suit the wearer is safe from the extremes of space. The great differance between the 1a and the 1b, is that in the 1b the polymer needs the wearer to move itself, which is not hard since the polymer around the joints is much easier to move, but is layered with aditional coats of anti-radiation flexible polymer, and bulges slightly for the aditional heat protection. This means that the joints move effortlessly, and the polymer around other parts of the body that need to have flexibility are also thiner and easier to move, although not more exposed to radiation and so forth. The Skin is impact resistant, but not greatly so, for more piercing resistant. It is very hard to peirce the polymer, it bends but doesn't break. This feature is less in the 1b than the 1a, because the 1a could have thicker polymer granting it better resistance. It is not made for combat situations, and will not fare well against energy weapons, even though it can survive great heat. Over the polymer is a heavily acid resistant layer of polymer, which also covers all the aditional components.

Grappling thread: The Dusk 1b has a device on its belt which fires a specialised thread polymer, which sticks to surfaces, and is flexible, even in the freezing vacuum of space, allowing for the suit to get around, and not be left floating unable to get back to the ship. Sensor and Computer Systems: The Dusk 1b only has enviromental monitors.

Central Computer System: On the Dusk 1b, the helmet has an inbuilt location system and heads-up display, displaying the estimated amount of life support time remaiting, the location of the home base, or other chosen waypoint, and markers for degrees.

Wristwatch: This digital display on the left arm has a time display (with button-activated backlight) and envioromental tester, capable of measuring oxygen, chemical agents and raditation type and levels.

None.

I still have a few small tweaks (mainly in the format; I'm gong to add the belt system and make a sepearte thing for the helmet, etc.) but I'll handle them as I add the 1B stats to the site (I'll add the 1A too but it'll be as originally written).

Would Emrys mind if KZ and Star Army also produced these, sort of like how at one time both WickedArms and PNUgen made the same Nekovalkyrja? It would be needed to handle the vast production needs of the Star Army (particularly the need to producted these in space on ships as needed).

Emrys would like to make a large quantity of these suits with its own production capabilities, but understands it can not possibly manage to match the Star Armies demands with its current capabilities. Therefore it will grant KZ and Star Army the right to produce them, although they would still like to be paid. Emrys is not a major corporation, supplies its own materials, and so although happy to grant the Star Army and KZ and discount, would prefer it not to be for free.

A price can be agreed upon.

250,000,000 KS for the rights sound okay?

Yamatai businessman: *opens a large briefcase full of KS Cards*

You can add that to your finances thread, then.

I'm going to add the stats (1B) first to the site today, then modify the stats of all Star Army ships to include them and a link to their description. Emyrs has just improved life in space throughout the Empire! ^_^

Update: http://www.stararmy.com/org/stararmy/uniforms/ames.html
Here's the Star Army version. I arranged all the info by component, since it seemed to be easier to read that way.
