Enlisted Medics...?

Hello, just found the site, read through things, and formulated my first idea:
A beginning enlisted medical personnel. I couldn't find much on them, at least, by simple keyword search, however.
Is anyone else playing one? What is their training, level of competence?

My idea was for a newer recruit, but one with some higher-speed training, about Paramedic Level, an Expert Field Medic- someone to play assistant to the Medical Officers, go on missions as support personnel, generally participate in the gripping Life or Death drama, a la ER (or, better yet, when appropriate, comedy like M*A*S*H! ^_^)

Is this unexplored territory?

Solution
As for my official game-master answer, I'm going to say that an enlisted medical crewman in the Star Army of Yamatai has skills about equal to that of a family practicioner and paramedic, and as the ranks get higher also those of an OR nurse.

Green-shirt officers (white ranks) in the Star Army are the equivalent of medical doctors and specialists.
As a post script,
I am an EMT and was US Army, if it is any way significant...

As I recall, there is at least one character like this, so no, its not totally 'unexplored territory'.

Hope they come forward...
I'd like to find and read some archives of their 'big screentime' or so to speak, get a feel for it first.

You can be an enlisted medic, just you should know what you're doing with your char. It sounds to me like you have the competence needed for one. But you should note medics arekind of on the way out because of the medical technology available. But everyone needs a pretty girl to tend their wounds.

Enlisted medics are common in the YSA sense, but generally we don't have more than one to a ship. The example that comes to mind is Ghi on the Mikomi. So I suggest starting small, work with the personality and such, and get the skills you need to be an apt medic! It's not unheard of, just not always happening. Good luck! (YIM: Shiroihane18 if you need anything)

Of course it will be a pretty girl to stand there and just watch a lot of the time. ^_^ I'd think using part of the reasoning on enlisted medics being on the way out due to technology advances, that it would be one of those outdated Neko models that was there mainly to be on call to be an extra set of hands for an officer to do something they didn't want to do themselves

Also, the scope of practice I had in mind was similar, a cross between a Paramedic and a Nurses' Assistant. That makes sense to only have one per ship, as I'd think the main job would be assisting the (equivalent of) Ship's Surgeon, not only on techincal tasks, but also occasionally on administrative ones as well, additionally serving in a secretarial capacity.

Nursing is a very different job from being a medic, however- in most modern militaries, LPN's are enlisted, while RN's are officers. The Warrant/Commissioned officer counterpart to the Medic is a Physician's Assistant, more or less.

I'm doing some back study on Navy Corpsmen, as my experience is with Army and civilian medical practice.
