The Pride Wing had made it into the Ayame-class Cruiser's power armor launch bays successfully. The lights were off, and it looked like no one was home. The bay itself seemed void of most, if not all, of its equipment. It was either picked clean by the pirates outside or perhaps the armor was really walking around the ship—empty of any pilot. A few members, such as Chikako, were indisposed in the conflict, so the members of the unit inside the Watcher were given the go-ahead to proceed without all their members.

Sigmund automatically switched to night vision while Kuriko tried to get her bearings. "Creepy..." Kuriko muttered before taking an inventory of those around her. Where is everyone else? Kuriko wondered as she mentally listed everyone that should have been there. Instantly, a fear gripped the Nekovalkyrja. They're alright, get hold of yourself. Kuriko bit her lip, forcing herself to focus on the now. "Let's move out. We need to find the crew, and fast," Kuriko said over the comms.

Masako sighed as she activated her night vision mode and looked around, cautiously letting her rifle lead her way as she proceeded to take a look around the bay, trying to pick up signs of what happened. "On this kind of ship, in an emergency they'd have been taken to the most secure areas. Let's try to get to the bridge first," she suggested as she shifted around, afraid a bit sure but not letting it get to her.

The battle itself continued on with things turning in the Senbu's favor. The fray of the Red Lion's task force mixed with the weaker and outnumbered pirates was an explosive display of combat. The NR-1X-10c, YSS Makka, began firing phased pulse cannon fire on the third of the Vampire patrol craft. The ship's commander kept from using torpedoes and any other ordnance that could cause damage to the Senbu's power-armor squadrons in close proximity to the target. But the ship itself wasn't in the clear; it was still caught in a two-on-one fight with the second of the pirate crafts. Target bravo was moving in a wide vectored turn in an attempt to flank the Makka.

"Bravo is moving in on our ship, Obsidian move in at full speed!" the new leader of the crestfallen wing commanded over communications. The blue and black paneled Mindys picked up speed; they were rapidly closing in on the second pirate craft. "For glorious victory!" she recited over the comms and received the same sentence back from her troops in faithful unison. On the tactical overview of that area of the combat, the squadron seemed to open up with a combined missile volley, then one soon after they gained more distance. The first one got the attention of the bravo target and caused the ship to change its attack posture from the Makka to their unit. The second volley was more precise and seemed to disrupt the patrol craft's shields quite a bit.

Sakaki had holstered her beam saber for now, believing it wouldn't be too useful in close combat and was in favor of keeping her beam saber in her left arm charged and ready. She kept herself calm, ready to react to anything that would come, alive or dead.

Tsukihime itself tuned on the night vision as Sakaki entered the ship. “It would be wise to search the engine room in case if this was a trap,” suggested Sakaki in response to Masako's suggestion. The Neko remembered very well of the exploding death trap that was their practice session with Shizuka-taisa.

"But it looks like we don't have the manpower to do both at the moment," Masako replied, having her capacitor begin recharging as well as her teleport unit while they were passive for the moment. She wanted to have them ready in case this did end up being like that simulation. "I'd suggest charging your teleporter and recharging your capacitor before we go anywhere though, just to be safe."

“Indeed, Masako,” replied Sakaki as she started to charge her leg capacitor. “However, as the ship is dead in the water, a trap would be more fitting would it not? The rescue could end in disaster if the ship was to cease to exist by the time we reach the bridge.”

Masako would take a moment though to send a notification to the Senbu. "Senbu? Kuriko, Sakaki and myself are aboard the Watcher. Can you provide any data to its condition and expected crew numbers? This bay here is completely empty, no armor, weapons, or anything else," she reported in.

"Pride Wing has entered the Watcher, no enemy contacts yet," Ageha reported from her comm station on the bridge. "Hold on, Sakiyurai-hei," she replied to Masako as the newest member of the operations crew brought focus to the relevant information on her display. "There were one-hundred and seventy-six crew members on board the Watcher," she reported back to the NH-29h. "And it looks like around five thousand armor units."

"Damn it! And there's not a single one here. And all the lights are off too!" Masako replied to Ageha. "It looks like the systems are completely off; can you get any information on the ship from there?"

Something inside Kuriko's mind clicked. "Ano... Nav—Nanjo-hei, what kind of armor units were on the Watcher?" Kuriko asked before motioning for the unit to follow her. "Get your teleporters recharged. If it's a trap, teleport outside of the ship ASAP," Kuriko ordered as she moved toward the hangar door. "If we can reach the bridge we might be able to scan the ship for the crew."

"Sensor information indicates that the Watcher is running off of auxiliary power," Ageha reported first to the Pride Wing. "They've got life support, but it looks like that'll run out in twenty minutes at most." The wing's tactical relay technician switched back to the Watcher's cargo list. "It looks like it various assorted armors. Mindys, Daisys, Black Mindys, Mindy Twos, One Hes..." she trailed off as she realized that it sounded like she was rambling. "It looks to be about half the standard compliment for an Ayame-class vessel."

"In that case we should hurry," Masako said, using her own ability to keep anchored when her Mindy registered the lack of gravity in the bay. She would approach the doors to lead into the ship, pulling up a schematic of the ship to find out their position and the fastest route to the bridge. "Let's see here..."

Kuriko also pulled up a schematic of the ship before heading to one of the doors that according to the schematic would eventually lead to a lift. "We should stay together, we don't want to get separated and lose anyone," Kuriko said before opening a comm-link to Ageha again. "Nanjo-Hei, is the ship's IES responsive?" If it is we could save some time maybe.

“Of course Shifuda-heisho,” Sakaki replied as she made her way to the exit door. If the ship is on emergency power, the ships doors will probably not open, Sakaki contemplated as she walked up to a door, then asked, “Shifuda-heisho, should we precede with caution or haste?”

Chikako appeared in visual range of the Pride Wing as her teleport pack instantly closed the distance she had incidentally created by attacking that starfighter. "Shifuda-heisho, what's our danger?" she asked telepathically, falling into formation with the rest of the wing.

"I'm not getting any response from the IES, Shifuda-heisho," Ageha's voice responded over the comm system in the Pride Wing's armors. The young Yamataian girl on the bridge could see them bringing up the Ayame deck plans on her status display, monitoring their systems and vitals. "Shifuda-heisho, Sakiyurai-hei, the Watcher is a modified Ayame for SAINT. The deckplan is a bit different from what you have on board. I have you on deck 28 right now. You'll need to head for deck 6 to get to the main bridge. There's also the command bridge located on deck 5."

The exit to the rest of the ship had a small hardware display attached to the frame of the armored door. It was running on a very low power system which was close circuited to the single door itself, for situations like this. A rotating Star Army logo appeared on the small screen and a keypad jut out from the bottom of the blue glowing screen.

"Hmm... looks like either way, we have to go up," Masako said and watched the door, training her rifle on it if it got opened and something was on the other side.

Kuriko did the only thing she could think of at the moment. "Don't shoot yet, let's save it for a last resort," Kuriko said to Masako before entering her clearance code on the keypad. Instinctively, Kuriko reached out to the IES of the ship without thinking and transmitted verification as well. That was stupid, Kuriko thought after she had done it. If it's hostile it most certainly knows who you are now... if it's even on.

"I'm not going to, Kuriko; I'm covering the door in case it opens and something is on the other side," Masako sighed.

The icon disappeared from the view, and then a console appeared on the screen. It rapidly filled with text scrolling upwards, going through checks against its last update from the Star Army PANTHEON. It paused a moment, the word “searching” blinked a few times as it used it's small computer to dig into its database. Then—a loud “thunk” of metal against metal echoed throughout the carnivorous empty bay. But the door didn't move until another loud slam, at which the door opened wide with a releasing hydraulic to reveal a twisted and damaged Black Mindy. Its head was facing forward, but the body hung limp, where as there was no body inside for it to hold it straight, instead it stood with a forward lean and the normal optic sensors were red instead of the normal blue.

"I don't think that's a normal Mindy," Masako said and took careful aim on the head of the Black Mindy but grumbled, finding her AI's fire control activating to keep her from firing upon the armor recognized an ally model. "Damn it, my fire control isn't letting me fire upon it," she said to the others.

Kuriko jumped backward in surprise before whipping her rifle up at the Black Mindy. Instead of immediately firing, Kuriko stood there waiting for the Mindy to make the first move. "Anou... sumimasen," Kuriko sent telepathically to the armor's AIES silently hoping that the reply would be absolute silence or that the armor would fall down due to lack of support.

In response to Masako's statement, Sakaki quickly drew her katana off her back with her right hand and aimed it's point toward the Black Mindy. She then commanded, “Identify yourself!” She positioned the left hand on the hilt as well, thankfully not having a similar problem as Masako with a solid weapon rather than one connected to her suit.

"Please, don't attack!" a feminine Yamataian-sounding voice called out from the machine. The Mindy took an unstable step forward, then paused again in place. "I'm stuck inside, please help me out of here!" the girl pleaded. The black armor stood still only a few paces from the group. In Kuriko's head, she could hear whimpering, the telepathy from the machine's transmitter seemed to carry a strong sense of fear and acute sadness.

Masako listened and switched spectrum to see into the thermal field of vision to see if there was a humanoid shaped occupant of the Mindy or if it was simply the armor mimicking a voice and psi-patterns. She kept her rifle leveled on the Black Mindy nonetheless as she did.

Kuriko's rifle dropped from the firing position as the Neko ran up to the armor. "Un," Kuriko replied as she tried to find the Black Mindy's seam with her armored hand. She wasn't sure if the girl inside was alright or not, but she obviously wanted out of the armor. "It'll be okay," Kuriko sent to the woman, trying to reassure her as she moved. "Can you tell me what happened? How many people are left? Where is everyone at?" Kuriko was probably breaking a few psychological rules concerning questioning a distressed patient, but more lives than just hers were on the line.

"If you have to shoot, only aim at the limbs and handheld weapons. It's more forgivable than killing a hostage," Chikako messaged the Pride Wing telepathically, eagerly pondering how should would scramble her drones in the event that the armor really forced the occupant against her will. It was ironic that only a few minutes ago, she was the one saying not to treat the enemy any differently, but if things were as she thought, the rules of engagement would have to be tweaked for the sake of averting a massacre.

Kuriko, you idiot... Masako thought and gestured with her rifle. "Kuriko, back off for a moment you're interfering with my view. I've got my visuals set to see heat if there's a real woman in there I'll see the humanoid figure," Masako said to Kuriko telepathically.

Now in response to her commander, Sakaki quickly placed back her sword and moved to assist. If anything, the Hei could do would at least restrain the Mindy, or pull Kuriko out of the way of an attack.

There was a humanoid looking thermal inside the machine filling all the sections, from the head to the toes. Though it was a little colder than the rest of the group, the drop in body temperature could be from anything including the rapid dropping temperature of the derelict ship. The armor didn't seem to move at all as Kuriko searched for a seam. Just as she found it, and went to open it, the machine jaunted forward another step, just out of her reach and now closer to the rest of the group. "I just want to go home, please get me out!" the voice seemed more panicked now, like a normal person.

It could be from a recently killed occupant and Masako didn't lower her weapon, but it didn’t seem hostile. "Freeze," Masako commanded the machine. "If you don't we can't get you out," she said trying to be kind, but grinned internally. If it didn't follow the directive, it was hostile. If it did then it may not be, even in a panic the woman would have to know she'd have to hold still to be released.

"Senbu, I'm having a problem. My fire control is locking me out of my weapons while aiming at the Black Mindy," Masako said back to the ship telepathically.

"Ssssshhhh..." Kuriko sent to the armored figure. "We'll take you home, first we need to get this armor off of you," Kuriko walked up behind the armor, wrapping one arm across its chest to hold it in place while the other searched for the seam. Kuriko's hand slid down to the seam of the power armor and rested on where it began. After waiting a few seconds, Kuriko started to try and open the armor. "What's your name?" Kuriko asked, trying to draw the armors attention away from Masako. "Masako, relax. I think it's okay," Kuriko sent to Masako. "She's scared, if you do that she could have a psychological breakdown and fire on us. We have to calm her down and get her out of the armor," Kuriko sent that last message to rest of the group.

Ageha turned her head around to look at her commanding officer. "Kanno-taii, Pride Wing has encountered a bogey Black Mindy and are requesting permission to disengage fire control."

You're way too trusting, Kuriko, Masako thought and sent a message to Sakaki. "If that thing even makes one hostile move on her, try to strike to disable the armor or for the arms to take out the projectors," she suggested.

Sakaki didn't like the idea of Kuriko getting close to a possible hostile, and kept herself an possible lunging distance in case of disaster. Nodding, she replied, ”Masako, I believe we have this covered well enough, could you check outside in case there are more?”

Masako lowered her rifle a hair so it wasn't aimed squarely at the Mindy’s gut and glanced to Chikako. "Should we move past this and see if there's others further in?" she asked, but didn't take her eye off the Black Mindy.

The blonde haired officer, Akira, sat up straighter in his seat, then with a puzzled look on his face, moved his hand and called up the current situation on his display. "Normally if it was a hostile bogey, it would have opened fire and the FCS would have marked it as a foe. It says they're in direct contact with the armor, could you give me more details on the situation before I allow them to shoot a potential friendly," Akira inquired harshly, the idea of disengaging the fire control and then one of the units killing off a innocent hostage was not something he wanted to be under his command record, or report to the Taisa.

Meanwhile, off in the distance in the Watcher, a very strange sound began growing louder. It sounded like a bunch of feet scurrying through the halls—like a horde of hostiles. The Mindy in the middle of the group twitched then teleported out of sight for a split second and then appeared behind Masako. "Pleasssse, help me, I can't control it!" the voice whined as it slammed one of its armor-piercing spiked gauntlets into Masako's back, puncturing her armor and making a nice wound in her back. Then simultaneously, the sound burst into the room as it began filling with similar units, all of them pleading for help, all in different voices and tones.

Masako jolted and spun around to bash the Mindy with her rifle and growled, the fire control disengaging now that it became hostile. "Damn it, it's a friggin ruse!" she said as she attempted to bat the armor away.

"Senbu, the armors seem to be holding their pilot’s hostage," Masako reported.

"They're requesting a disengage order to disa—," Ageha stopped mid-sentence as she watched her display change, the symbol for the Black Mindy changing from a bogey, turning into a hostile and Masako's unit taking damage. "Kanno-taii, the Black Mindy has attacked Pride Wing and more contacts are approaching down the hall. It looks like... two hundred additional units and growing!" As she read the number her voice raised in panic. The situation had made a quick, grim turn for the "Pride of the Senbu."

Kuriko instinctively tightened her grip around the Black Mindy that she had been holding when her AIES changed the Black Mindy that had attacked Masako from friend to foe. "Masako!" Kuriko screamed over the comms. "What's going on?" Kuriko asked while releasing the armor, drawing her rifle up and turning to put herself into a firing arc of the new “enemies.”

"We should head for the ship's IES core!" Chikako said, scrambling her leg-mounted NSDs and setting them to fire stun blasts at the armor's sensors as she leapt forward to tackle it with the flat of her shield. Since these were comrades who didn't have control over their own actions, she would only attempt a lethal strike out of mercy. "It's the only damn thing that has veto rights over an armor's actions."

Then, as if to make matters worse—the Pride Wing disconnected from communications and disappeared off the map. The room itself filled with a thick cloud of green colored charged particles, like a grimy smog of undeath. The room continued to fill as the Black Mindys rushed at the rest of the group. That one Mindy that attacked Masako was batted a good few feet away after it's assault. The one that Chikako jumped at yelled in fear and pain, screaming for her to stop what she was doing.

Masako blinked and looked over at the Black Mindys and grimly set herself and tilted her rifle up and fired a grenade from her launcher into the group of them. It should do damage to the armor itself and try to put it out of commission. "I think we're being jammed, people," she said.

"Thirteen minutes until life support failure," Ageha reported in to her charges, but the Pride Wing never got the message. The young Yamataian stared in shock as all points of contact, friendly and hostile disappeared. "Sir! Pride Wing and enemy signatures have disappeared!" she announced as she looked over the Black Mindy's feature readout. A state of the art jamming array? "The enemy units are jamming our sensors." And the Pride Wing's sensors as well. She looked around at the other CommOps personnel working around her and asked, "Anyone else close enough to help out?"

Sakaki focused still on the one with Kuriko, quickly dashed up to her commander, and ripped the Black Mindy away and into a nearby wall. “Shifuda-heisho, we could disarm the hostages if we are careful, though it is also risky, she suggested, keeping a perimeter around her commanding officer. She then redrew her katana to raise her combat range. This does not seem good, this gas is not only unknown, but is also disrupting my night vision.

The communications operative to Ageha's right shook her head, not able to respond vocally because at the same time she was giving out course correction orders to the Obsidian wing, who at the moment were heavily engaged with the bravo Vampire and its escort armors. The girl to her left, the Gold Wing's heisho, however, pursed her lips and looked thoughtful for a moment, never once looking up from her screen, then nodded. "I have a team that can pull away from the engagement now that we've got a hold of the situation," she said to Ageha with seriousness. "Getting the clearance now from mission command." While she waited on that, she opened up the information on team 02. It was a mixed unit lead by an Ittô Heisho Nakayama “Mist” Sai, whose executive officer just happened to be Ittô Heisho Saka “Gazer” Hideyoshi, the guy Ageha had talked to just before the battle. "Mist, I have a new objective for your team. Disengage from the enemies and start heading towards the YSS Watcher; I'll fill you in once I get confirmation."

"Thank you Heisho," Ageha replied as she sent the coordinates of Kuriko's wing to the helpful CommOp to her left. "Here's their last known location," she said as she brought up Gold Wing's team 02's location on her display. She was surprised to see Saka-kun's name pop up as one of the pilots, as she had spoken to the man just moments before coming to her duty station on the bridge. All the people I know are gathering in one spot, she thought, unwilling to think about the consequences that might lead to, especially considering the condition they were in. This is what happens when your friends are all power armor pilots.

The sudden action caught Kuriko off guard. Is this a trap? Was she playing the whole time? No, it's not possible, she was genuine. Wasn't she? Kuriko's mind reeled before some other part of her kicked in. If you want to save your team you have to act. Now! "Pride Wing: open fire. If possible, shoot to disable," Kuriko yelled over the communications system before leveling her LASR at the Black Mindy that had teleported and opening fire at its arm.

The hyper intelligent Armor Integrated Electronics System in each of the Pride Wing units, once they established that they would not be able to regain communications, all simultaneously displayed a countdown timer. The timer was for the amount of time that the ship had life support, reminding the Wing that they had only had seventeen minutes remaining to collect the survivors, if there were any.

“Hai, Shifuda-heisho,” replied Sakaki as she put herself in motion, bringing her massive katana to bear on the closest target. The Neko brought it down on the first arm that came close, and then aimed for the legs to successfully take down her target. Reach would not be a problem, though fighting a number this great without causing fatal injury would prove rather difficult. This certainly would put my skills to the test, I must be like Yue Yusuke—calm and focused.

Masako blinked at the countdown timer and blinked. "We should try to get the IES core and remotely shut the armors down," she said to Kuriko and tried to shoot to disable the armors to clear the way. She aimed for shoulders or legs to knock them down at the very least. "Let's hope that we don't end up like this."

"Glad you can parrot, Boin-chan!" Chikako boosted down the hall with her Zesuaium eliptoid shield in front of her, tackling the group of approaching puppet armors to hold them back, all the while attempting to hide the fact that she was incensed by Masako repeating what she had said only seconds earlier. If she wanted a playback, she would have had Ikazuchi no Yari for her. "Use telemetry from when we teleported in and the ship's blueprints to teleport to the IES core. Comrades will die if we don't hurry!"

"Oh shut up Chikako!" Masako groaned, realizing how stupid she sounded as she kept up the clearing fire to try and plow the road in front of them to get out of the bay itself.

Kuriko wasn't deaf, though she had missed Chikako's suggestion completely, she didn't miss it the second time. Nor did she miss Masako's response to Chikako's teasing. Kuriko would have said something but decided there was a better time for it. "Sakaki, change of orders. We're going to assist Ueda-heisho in reaching the IES core," Kuriko said.

“There is a problem; they have the function as well, Ueda-heisho,” Sakaki stated as she removed the feet of another zombie PA. “Someone will need to hold them here.” Then upon hearing Kuriko's order, she replied, “Hai, ready to be of assistance.”

"Sir, we have multiple FTL exits to our stern at the edge of the interdiction field!" one of the sensor operators called out to the Shosa above the chatter in the command may, trying to make her voice heard above all the commotion. "Visual uploading now, it appears to be a DD4-D-Class Destroyer and a group of fighter escorts identified as fox T4 combat Aeroshuttles!" The large display in front of the bridge crew switched to focus on the approaching ship and its wings of fighters flying closely to the black battle worn ship.

“Shimatta!” Nicholas huffed, biting the corner of his lower lip as the operator reported the newly-arrived spacecraft. “Launch Vermillion Squadron immediately!” the Geshrin Shosa commanded, dragging the unit’s status to “active” on the volumetric display open in front of him. With another gesture, he brought up a status report of the main engagement, looking for more available forces to protect the rear. “Get the Tategami between the Makka and Vampire B,” he said, seeing that the scout ship was being outflanked. “When the hostile craft are no longer a threat, I want both of our Nozomi to engage the DD4. Now bring us about! We don’t want them to have a shot at our stern when they get within weapons range!”

Inside the drifting YSS Watcher, the twisted and vicious infected Mindys began hording into the bay and coming at the Pride Wing ruthlessly. The first few were easy to handle, haphazardly attacking one by one. But as the crowd began to grow denser, they were getting harder to handle. The one Sakaki managed to cut open spilled only the fluid from the machine, its insides was void of any pilot. But the next leg that was cut off one of the other suits appeared to actually have a pilot inside. It looked like there was a mix of the both in the crowd making it incredibly hard to discern the two.

"Stay back! You'll die if you don't!" Chikako growled, spinning around using her shielded armor to knock away the building swarm of armors around her before jumping up into the air and launching all of her NSD and NSBs, setting them to stun and targeting them to the sensors and thrusters of nearby enemies. "Ikazuchi, calculate my position relative to the Ayame-class' IES core and establish a teleport path while accounting for the movement of the ship. Once you've finished, use my telepathic brain nodes to send it to the Pride Wing. Disable the safeties related to maximum telepathic message size on my brain." She ordered her unit, still swinging her shield to knock off approaching armors for as long as she could manage. Don't make me waste your lives. You all deserve to be rescued.

Masako would aim up and fire a grenade into the crowd to try and thin them out a bit. "Just take them out, all the SS pod should have their data on it," she growled. "They certainly aren't going to give us the same consideration you guys," she said as she popped off the grenade.

"Negative. You are not to use lethal force if it can be helped," Kuriko said. "Ueda-heisho, Masako, teleport to the IES control room and disable the remote operating function of the Black Mindy's IES. If you have to, disable the IES core itself."

"Understood," Masako said to Kuriko. "Chi-chan. Let's get there and disable the armors," she said, her teleportation unit should have been ready by then, but she waited for Chi to go so they'd go at the same time.

As the numbers stacked against her, Sakaki began using wide swings to keep them back. At this rate I may need to use the Pulse Lasers, she thought as her frustration grew. At least on the pirate ship I could use any force necessary... “Shifuda-heisho, would that include me and you as well?” Sakaki asked while taking another swing.

Chikako's Mindy displayed the desired information—a small 3-D map in the corner of her HUD showed her a quick and efficient route to the IES core and then the teleport information, distance, telemetry, and the exit point. The same information was then transmitted to the other Wing members, though with the think jamming it came in pieces and took a moment for the AIES units to repair the information due to the packet loss. But her defensive posture wouldn't hold for long; a strong blow from a Black Mindy connected with her ribs and the armor piercing spikes left a hole in her machine. That's when Masako fired off a grenade into the horde of armors. It exploded and incapacitated a large group of the machines, but the hole seemed to quickly fill with every second. They had to do something—fast. The timers beeped in unison as another minute ticked away of precious life-support.

"Aaargh!" Chikako groaned in agony as she was knocked back and penetrated by the fists, but bit her lip and didn't vocalize her reaction through her communications system. Willing her hemosynthetic flesh insert to at least seal the small gaps in her forward armor to prevent air loss, the Heisho raised her LASR and fired into the joints of the left and right knee of the attacking black Mindy while moving backwards with her left arm as a plow to cut through the crowd. Satisfied after a short burst, she kicked off a nearby zombie Mindy armor into the air and activated her teleport pack, moving her to the location of the IES core. If her plan worked, Masako would be well in tow.

Masako would back off and let off another grenade into the group and teleported after Chikako to the IES core location. When she came out of the teleport she'd appear next to the other and looked for the best way to deactivate it. "Can you do it? I'll try and cover you."

The multitude of voices in the Senbu’s command bay was becoming more frantic with commands being passed out to the whole field. "Vermilion teams one through five are launching!" a voice belonging to one of the communications officers sitting close to Ageha reported. "Sokudo-heisho: your team is to engage the approaching force, be prepared to face fighter shuttles. Also have your men prepare to engage the destroyer if necessary. Good luck, out there!" The brunette bridge bunny inched closer to her screen and watched closely as the unit moved away from the Senbu.

Ageha nervously watched as Gold Team 02 headed for the last known location of her Pride Wing. She glanced at the life support timer and calculated that they'd only have 10 minutes to find and retrieve her team. But, the young ComOps reminded herself, they were the Captain's special squad and they've returned safely before. It'll be all right, she reminded herself. Being able to only watch with no communication or observation ability was nerve-wracking.

Back on the Watcher, Kuriko felt the swarm slowly push in on her and Sakiko as well. Uncertainty gripped the Heisho. "No not yet. Wait just a little longer. Give Masako and Ueda-Heisho a little longer," Kuriko responded to Sakaki. Please work quickly, if it doesn't work soon... Kuriko was afraid of what she might have to do, but something in her resolved that all of her team would make it out of their alive.

The bodies stated to pile up and it was easy to see that most of the units were actually full and contained a member of this ship inside. Though Sakaki had been one of the most successful in holding back the group, she could only be so lucky for so long. Soon, one of the Mindys forwent their body and grappled onto her sword arm once the blade was stuck inside itself. The armor seemed to have a strong death grip and was soon joined by another two hands in attaching to her. They started to pull, and the sword wielder could feel her arm along with the machine begin to pull from her body. Kuriko was split by a wedge of Mindys from her charge, and was now being leapt at from some of the zombie units in front of her.

Kuriko thrashed and screamed in frustration before yelling toward Sakaki. "You're free to fire; as soon as you're clear teleport out!" Kuriko said before starting to charge her own teleporter. Kuriko used her forearm projectors to shoot in rapid fire mode at the zombie units as they came in. "I'll be right behind you," Kuriko said to the Hei.

Sakaki at some point stabbed an enemy. “Tsh, that wont work,” she said under her breath, and instantly hearing the order to open fire, she started up her pulse turrets and let it gut whatever was in front of her. At the same time she charged her forearm into sword mode to free herself from the Mindy menace. She had let go of her katana then fired up her teleport and the Tsukihime plotted the best place that would not overlap Kuriko's own target location.

In the Watcher’s computer core, Chikako and Masako exited into the large IES containment area located in a bay on the engineering deck. The site before them looked grim—the housing and computer unit inside looked sabotaged, damaged beyond normal repair. This was bad news for the team, but just as the two were to get closer, a sharp burning blade pushed through Chikako's side and out the front of her body. "You’re not going to take me too!" A Yamataian voice shouted from behind, and there was a man in Star Army uniform with a Mindy Aether Saber rifle in his hand attached to a generator on his back.

"Hey, hey!" Masako said and tried to get the guy away from her. "We're not here to take you. We're here to try and rescue you and the other survivors!" she said, trying to calm him down. "We're from the Senbu," she said.

The armor-clad Neko writhed in agony as the blade charged with infinite Aetheric energy cut into her suit like a sharp knife through fresh, crusty bread. Even though her outside might have held it back for a few seconds, the effect was the same and the small holes made by the armored gauntlets were expanded and cauterized. If only out of a survival instinct, Chikako accelerated her armor forward along the angle of the blade so as to not risk any worse injuries before she tumbled onto the ground. She lay there, quivering, her mind sorting through that unspeakable pain as her side and midsection smoked and steamed and armor still cackled with aetheric energy.

The crazed Yamataian with the aether rifle quickly turned his weapon to Masako as she pulled him away from her wounded partner. He pulled the trigger and sprayed Masako with a close range burst of hot white aether. "Lies, all lies!" he screamed as he fired, and the Mindy took a heavy damage and severe burns and wounds covered the Neko's body. At this point was when Kuriko and Sakaki exited from their teleport in behind the gunman.

As the two additional members of the Pride Wing exited from their teleport, the mighty blast of unstable atmosphere and transpheric emissions sent the assailant flying into a wall close by, he looked hit pretty hard and was now covered in scorch marks. His gun disconnected from the portable generator and was now in another corner of the room. "Pri—wi— *bzzt* com—in Prid—ing." An unstable communications signal reached the intact suits; it carried the FOF signal of the Gold Wing 02. It grew stronger within seconds, "Pride Wing, this is Ittô Heisho, Nakayama. Please respond."

Masako shouted in extreme pain and was nearly instantly seized by paralyzing pain and fell back and crumbled to the floor, her suit trying to repair the damage the best it could to save her. "It... hurts..." she let out and curled in on herself in agony. "Why would we lie..." she got out, seeing the others materialize and tried to keep the guy focused on her. "Our Mindy visors aren't red..." she coughed inside the helmet, having suffered internal injuries from the high powered burst.

Kuriko's mind quickly readjusted itself, obviously she was starting to get used to the rapid changes in scenery associated with teleportation. Kuriko's eyes flicked across the room to Masako and Chikako, both of whom definitely looked worse for wear. Kuriko didn't even notice the Yamataian officer as she ran over to Masako and Chikako. Luckily for the other Neko, aether was hot, and Kuriko's mind told her that meant no bleeding. "This is Jotô-Heisho Shifuda Kuriko. We have heavily wounded in here," Kuriko replied over the radio.

"Omoi... thinking that I'm done for," Chikako grunted, pushing herself up with her upper body. The external damages to her hemosynthetic insert had knit themselves and the armor was working hard to keep the Heisho's upper body in one piece, although not painlessly. "I'm still alive, Shifuda-heisho."

Masako wasn't as lucky, her armor and body damaged and under an extreme amount of stress as she tried to recover from the damage. "I'm... barely here but I can't move too well, I think he got something important..." she said, barely.

Meanwhile, from the Senbu's august command, a roaring voice boomed over the crowd of officers. "Helm, bring us about and approach slowly—impulse speed at six-percent!" the Lion said as she stood up to her feet and walked over to the rail just above the rest of the bridge, the cords connecting her SPINE ports to the Senbu dragged out from her chair and lay along the floor behind her "Weapons ops, I want your fingers on those pod deployment keys. As soon as they come into extended range, I don't care if we can hit them or not I want you to begin hailing fire on the Destroyer and its attack fighters. One of you are now personally responsible for the torpedoes that come our way. If one of them gets past you will be the one at fault—don't let it happen." With data streaming over her eyes, Shizuka watched her main view screen as the enemy grew closer.

"Understood, glory to the Obsidian," the busty comms op with frameless data-glasses responded to one of her communications. She was situated on the end of the four terminals, sitting beside the Pride Wing's communications officer. She was smirking to herself as she then turned around in her seat to report. "Vampire target B has been destroyed by the Obsidian Wing, awaiting new orders, Sir," the confidant black haired officer called out to the ship's battle commander.

The Shosa didn’t register what Obsidian’s operator had said right away, fixated on the hardwired Shizuka suddenly standing beside him. It was somewhat eerie seeing her like that, the energy and data streams surging through the SPINE interface cables delivering information to the Neko Taisa at a rate beyond comprehension. She was still beautiful, but at that moment she seemed so mechanical and alien—just the opposite of what he’d began to think of her. “I—” Nicholas began, his completely mundane brain finally processing what he’d been asked, “I want you to send Obsidian Squadron to assist the others with the final Vampire. The sooner it is down, the sooner, all of our peripheral assets can engage these newcomers,” he said, sounding uncharacteristically informal, as if caught off-guard.

As the data from the Pride Wing's AIES routed itself through the Gold Wings' systems the signals began popping up back on Ageha's screen. She pursed her lips as she saw the damage readout from the various units. "Shifuda-heisho, can you read me?" she asked, trying not to sound too frantic as she bounced her communications through the same route that the Pride Wings signals were getting back to her on. "Can I be of any assistance?"

The door to the IES bay began banging with repetitive slams and scratches. The horde was close by, and soon to burst into the room. "We need a transport for our wounded," Kuriko said in quick response to Ageha's offer. The Wing's leader quickly rushed up to her downed comrades, hurrying through her things to try and give Masako first aid, doing whatever she could remember from her caretaker training. While this happened, Sakaki moved to guard the group, standing in between them and the door.

"We...need to get off this ship..." Masako coughed a bit as she began to come around, her injuries still bad but she'd survive. Her armor's hemosynthetic layer had since patched the holes in it to render it able to survive another teleport; or so she hoped.

The Mindy named Ikazuchi turned it's head, looking around the room. "Where is it?" the pilot inside yelled, running to the center of the room with her forearm blade blazing. "Ikazuchi no Yari! Tell me where the nearest SS Pod is. There should be one near the core."

Chikako's AIES reported that the SS pod's containment area was only paces away from where she was, but upon arrival, it would appear that the pod was missing. The hatch itself seemed undamaged and that it had not been tampered with. There was evidence from scrapes and the open hatch below the containment that it had been ejected some time ago. Just as they were getting ready to move again, a very horse voice called out from the corner, "Wait—I'm still in one piece." The mangled and wounded Yamataian seemed somehow miraculously still alive.

Checking the data in front of her, Ageha noted that Team Two only had one teleport unit ready to go, but both Sakiyurai and Ueda were in need of medical evac. "Shifuda-heisho, Hirota-hei is nearby with a ready teleporter. That's the closest, fastest I've got. Head for their position, onegaishimasu." The ComOps sent a map of the quickest route to Kuriko and to the console of the helpful Gold Wing ComOps next to her. "How does this look?" she asked out loud, her face still glued to her display.

"Well! What in Chiharu's name happened here?" Chikako replied, sheathing her forearm blade and approaching the man. "Yamataian and Neko are dying on this ship, and I need to know why." She sighed and glanced over to the door, remembering they didn't have long before those armors broke through. "At the very least, can you tell me where the SS pods went?"

"Classified information—take… take me to your ship." Now that she was close enough, she could see that he had the rank of a Taii and his uniform had SAINT written all over it, even with the scorch marks. He then couldn't keep his eyes open; the man slipped from consciousness and passed out before her. Chikako's AIES displayed that he still had a pulse, so he was still alive.

The Heisho narrowed her eyes, quietly accepting that she would only be able to fulfill her duty and rescue the man, while being unable to recover an SS pod nor save any one of the crew. Still... that sort of attitude was, vexing, and she couldn't help but feel the urge to kick his burnt face in at some point in the foreseeable future. Not while he was unconscious, wounded and un-debriefed, however. That would be a terrible and counter-intuitive thing to do. "Masako, Sakaki, Shifuda-heisho, I have the Taii," she said, holding the man up in her arms, cradling him with her shield.

Masako grunted some and struggled to her feet. "Ahh yeah, it hurts so good," she said sarcastically and looked about for an alternate path out so they didn't have to wade through the zombie armors. "Well now which way do we go without braving the swarm out there; the longer they think we're in here the better," she suggested.

The Ittô Heisho Aya glanced at Ageha's map and pursed her lips a moment as she studied the route. Then with a small shake of her head she pressed a finger to the display and drew a direct line, a route that was faster—and through walls. "If we go in this way, we can have a quicker exit for your guys and a faster entry avoiding the enemy this way." She then looked up to Ageha with a reassuring smile, nodded to her, then turned back to her terminal. "Team zero-two, I'm sending you the entry way now. Be advised that they have sustained heavy damages and will need assistance returning to the ship, we see that one of your men have a fully charged teleporter, get him to transport the highest priority wounded to the ship."

"Thank you Heisho," Ageha responded humbly before sending the updated path to the Pride Wing. "Shifuda-heisho, please forgive me, but it seems that the direct route will be faster. Life support failure will occur in six minutes, so please hurry." Her voice shook a little as she gave the time remaining. They were cutting it pretty close.

PAUSE

Unpause

"Pride, this is Gold team zero-two. We understand that you have a high priority target in there with you. We're going to teleport him back to the ship, but we need you to get him suited up," the communication cut. A long moment of pause happened before the feminine voice came back on the line. "We're currently engaged with hostiles around the ship, you have one minute before we can secure a pass to open up a hole and extract your team." The transmission then went silent and the team was left with their new objective. The Yamataian needed to be suited up to survive the vacuum after Gold team 02 blew a hole open to get the Pride and the Taii out.

Kuriko looked around for a vacuum suit or something to put the Yamataian in. "Masako, Chikako, can you see if you can get that IES core disabled?" Kuriko asked the pair as she worked.

"That thing's trashed, Kuriko," Masako said.

"Yamasaki, this is Mist. We're currently engaging stray targets outside the Watcher; we're going to need a shuttle to meet us to take in the Pride's wounded," the Heisho lead of the Gold 02 radioed into the combat relay specialist. The lead then pointed an armored finger at the side of the Watcher, a giant visual marker appeared on all the local HUDs, letting both groups, the Pride Squad and her Gold unit, know where they were going to enter. The chatter got quiet for a moment as the five Mindys chased the stragglers around the large ship. Then—"Open fire!" yelled Mist to her men. They all opened fire simultaneously and quickly engaged the units outside. The Pride's time was ticking down now; their HUDs displayed a timer counting down to the approximate time of entry.

When Sakaki had teleported in, the sight of Masako on the ground gave an outburst of emotion that was quickly silenced that was instead was used on the grip of her gun that she had put away after the target became sane.Masako is fine, for now I must make sure we are secure, the Neko rationalized as her military training kicked in.

She stood by the door listening to the other side in case hostiles followed them somehow and yet did not decide to teleport in. In case hostiles did come, at least she could help delay them while the others find a suit for the unshielded friendly.

Masako was in agony still, relying solely upon the Mindy to be able to move about at all. "There should be an emergency closet or storage area in here somewhere," she reasoned out, looking around with her sensors.

Kuriko rummaged through one of the lockers while she was searching for a suit. Inside she found a Daisy power armor in engineer’s colors. After dragging it out, Kuriko ran her armored glove over the seam, waiting for the armor to open up she contacted the suit’s IES and ordered it to be slaved to her own.

The hostiles clawed and banged against the door to the IES bay. Their numbers could be heard growing in size, just by the sheer amount of movement, all the shambling footsteps gathering up against the armored entrance. Time was running low; Kuriko had the suit opened up and it was linked just as she commanded it to. Outside the Gold team 02 were cleaning up and three of them were changing for an approach, going far out of the engagement range to line up their vectors perfectly.

"Let's hope that the cavalry gets here before the enemy breaks that door down," Masako quipped, trying hard to ignore her pain. "After this is over, I'm taking a long ass soak in a hot bath." She laughed a bit and braced a hand against the wall and held her other across her chest in habit.

Sakaki backed away from the door while facing her palms toward the door. “We should hurry, Shifuda-heisho,” warned the battle-ready Neko. “I am ready to hold them back for about a few seconds. I could also partner with someone for an escape if needed.”

Once the armor had opened up, Kuriko slid the Yamataian in and waited for the armor to re-seal. "We're ready when you are, Gold Wing," Kuriko said over the comms. The Neko didn't want to leave the crew of the Watcher like this, but how do you beat a power armor that overrides the user?

"Good timing, Pride. Stand back—here we come," one of the pilots with a smooth Yamataian voice responded over communications. Ageha, who was constantly listening to the comms could identify the voice as the guy she met before. Then, an opening volley of offensive augmentation fire pelted the ship's hardened armor followed up by a set of heavily charged forearm blasts. Needless to say, they got through. Then as they moved above the hole, which was half way through to their destination, they did the same series of attacks and blasted the IES chamber open. The sudden vacuum and explosions caused everything inside to rapidly suck out to the space outside. Then, three gold-paneled Mindys moved into the bay. One moved quickly to the Daisy and grabbed him from Kuriko with a nod, and teleported away towards the Senbu just outside the armor bay. Then the other two helped the wounded, just in time too—the heavily armored door to the compartment opened up and the infected Mindys poured into the bay. "Let's move!" the pilot shouted, then made his exit quickly with an arm around Chikako to support her as they exited.

Masako nodded her thanks to the pilot that was helping her to get out as well, but could be heard coughing a bit.

"Let's get out of here." Kuriko rushed over to Sakaki and grabbed her arm. "Sumimasen," Kuriko sent to one of the nearby Black Mindys, hoping the message would reach the pilot inside.

Nursing the equivalent of losing a significant portion of her abdomen, Chikako felt grateful for the assistance in her current state. "Arigatou, comrade," the Heisho replied, accepting the arm. She wondered if that man really did know what he was doing, or was just a typical Yamataian officer who needed an excuse to be given special care during. extraction. Either way, she felt more than a little angry for being impaled suddenly.

Sakaki began to open fire at the first Mindys, but then Kuriko pulled at her arm and so released the magnetism of her feet letting herself fly along with her commander before turning herself to fly away at full speed, then would teleport when clear.

"Sir, the last vampire has been eliminated!" one of the twins reported clearly from their tier just below the commanders. "All units are waiting for your orders sir," the other twin said as she turned around to face up at Nick. She looked up at him with a professional look to her features, where normally she would have looked quite skeptic. It seemed the pink haired, blue eyed twin was still grateful for him saving her live, or at least had a new found respect for the man. "Uh, why are we still heading at the destroyer at ramming speed?" the other twin said, dropping her water container to the ground, which caused almost everyone in the room to look up at the outside view. "Has the Taisa gone mad?" the other one asked, looking up to the Neko captain who was glaring at the screen still, her hands tightly gripped on the bar in front of her control panel—data still streaming through her amber eyes.

“Do you doubt Endo-taisa’s judgment? Maintain current heading!” Nicholas scolded firmly, his eyes shooting to meet the blue-haired twin’s as he stood with one hand on the platform’s guardrail. He assessed the current data coming in from all of the Senbu tactical assets, noting the countdown timer displayed for the Watcher’s impending destruction. “Make sure all of our units are out of that ship before it goes down. I want the previously engaged power armor squadrons to form up around the Senbu and for Vermillion Squadron to continue its interception,” he barked confidently. “Have the Makka and Tategami sweep around to the left of our new contacts. Make sure that Obsidian and Gold are prepared to surround crush them if they try and break off!”

In the bridge of the SS Black Prometheus, the Pirate Captain with his gruff crew steadily moving towards the red Anri scoffed at his opponent. "And what kind 'o fire power does this ship think she has! Torpedo their bow, sink them before they get close enough to use their small little guns on our superior vessel!" his orders echoed throughout the low-lit command bay, the red hues illuminating his one good eye, the other hidden under an old war Nepleslian captain's hat, a souvenir from when he had captured the very ship he was commanding. The torpedoes were fired, but to his surprise they were countered with quick fire from the vessel's weapons pods—and the shots didn't make the ship slow down at all, in fact it was still coming at him at full speed. "She's crazy, she's going to take us both out!" he exclaimed, rearing back in his seat and gripping his armchairs tightly. "Evasive maneuvers, move us out of the way!" The ship began moving, as per the captain’s orders, going up and out of the way of the charging red repair ship.

"Coward..." Shizuka said, a toothy grin coming to her features. They continued to go through where the ship would be, and Shizuka ordered the Senbu to turn around to face the rear of the DD4. "Divert all available reserve power to the CFS and fire the projected energy beam!" she commanded to the crew, and only a second after, the concentrated shield beam fired off from the shielding around the Senbu and struck the old Nepleslian destroyer hard. The visual of the ship looked something like this: the entire vessel flickered, all the windows and open bays flashed and then the lights went out. The DD4 was now simply sitting there with its lights out—and most likely its power. Shizuka stared blankly at the screen, raising a brow—she seemed genuinely confused at the outcome.

At this point, the Pride and the Gold team 02 connected with a shuttle, the wounded were given seats first and the group shuffled around inside getting settled. "It's good to see ya'll are still on one piece, I was worried I'd have to cart a whole new bunch of greenhorns to the big 'ol Lioness," that ever familiar voice of everyone's favorite shuttle pilot came over the intercom as the group were getting situated. "Now, you all just sit back and enjoy the ride, because we got a li’l bitty bit to catch up to the ship—Shizuka's gone and ran head first at the bad guys."

Masako coughed again and let out a short, harsh sounding snort of amusement. "Yeah, she'd do that," she said and relaxed back some and shivered. "Well we're barely here, I'm Swiss cheese and Chikako-heisho is half the woman she used to be."

Kuriko collapsed against one of the walls of the shuttle, the plea of the trapped crewman playing repeatedly through her mind. There's nothing you could do, Kuriko told herself. The Neko sat there quietly for a few minutes before looking up at her wing. They had all taken hits, though Kuriko was lucky enough to have gotten a new armor after hers. That and she didn't get impaled by an aether saber-rifle either. "Ueda-heisho, Masako, how are you holding up?" Kuriko asked the pair that had been injured the heaviest.

"I can't move," Masako whined a bit. "I've been using the armor to move up ‘til now," she said. "Right now I just hurt all over," Masako said and began to couch again. "I think I damaged something inside."

Sakaki took whatever seat she could and connected her feed with the shuttle to see what the pilot was talking about. It was an interesting sight. Maybe her name should be Shizuka Taiga, it might be more fitting, admired the Neko of her commander's bravery to ram a capital ship into a destroyer.

The Neko otherwise tried to keep her mind of things as her adrenaline died down. Her mind was trying to keep away from Masako, as evident by her helmet was twisted about 20 degrees to her right, as this was the only way she could contain her emotions at the moment.

Masako did notice Sakaki's turning of the head but at the moment was too fatigued and tired to really address it and tried to relax more within the shell of the Mindy to let her natural healing factor try to fix her as much as possible. "Sakaki, you didn't get hurt did you?" she managed.

“I was not, Masako,” the Neko replied in a matter of fact. Though if one could say she was injured, she did leave a piece of her behind, in fact, buried within a Mindy where she left her katana. Like hell she was going to go back and get it right now though.

Chikako attempted to wave over some technical crew to assist her as she unsuited. "Oi! I need a hand," she called out as she removed the helmet of her M2-2a, exposing a her face, which was soaked in blood from the mouth down. The wounds on her abdomen had more or less been sealed by the blade, but armor and burnt hemosynthetic insert had been fused into her flesh. Yare yare daze... this is going to hurt so much!

On the Senbu Shizuka looked up at the ship, and then over to Nick. "Have our units clean up the fighters and our ships sink this vessel. Our scouts should be fully loaded with the torpedoes we had on board. It's not worth capturing, or its crew taken prisoner. I'm going to go meet with our pilots," Shizuka said with a firm nod at Nick and then reached back and disconnected herself from the SPINE interface. The cords were quickly retracted into the neck of the seat and the Taisa started out the door, "Saiga-shosa, you have the bridge."

“Yes, Endo-taisa,” Nicholas acknowledged, bowing slightly as the lift doors closed around her. Not wasting any time, he opened a direct channel to the two Nozomi-class ships under the Senbu’s command as he sent a text only message to the tactical communications technicians to have their units clean up the remaining fighters. “Tategami, Makka: I want this ended now. Wipe this pathetic ship off the face of the galaxy—leave no survivors” he said, omitting that these were Shizuka’s orders, aware that such orders may sound out of character for the usually compassionate Red Lion.
