Equipment standardization (physical & protocols)

Hey all,

I was just wondering. If things can be put together out of various components to create more complex objects here (say, taking a Mindy and adding a specialized rifle or modifying a sensor array on a ship to act differently) then shouldn't there be standardization?

I'm aware you use a standardized OS (the name of which I can't remember for the life of me) but what about things like communication protocols, programming languages, plugs and even spoken languages and behaviors?

I think there should be a standardization area on the front page so when players want to use some sort of geek-speak, it makes sense.

It'll also mean it'll be easier to create roles to fill for non-military characters. I'm having problems finding my bearings with finding out info about corporations and the like too.

The armors are moateratly customizables, though the Kyles lacks just about everything the Mindy has, which is teleportation, extra hard points and actual swapable pods, various types of medium and long range ammo, an actual (all be it very dumb looking) gun and just about everything else.

<_< As an anti-armor armor, heck as an armor period the Kyle utterly fails in the stat board.

The Kylie's a fine armor, though admittedly it lacks some things. Check the Power Armor Ratings to get a feel for the armors or, from there, go directly to the armor's page.

Standardization is throughout the SARP, but it's on a relatively unseen level. Wandering through the pages of several vessels, you'll see that each faction has standard technology it sticks to -- NDI likes plasma, for instance, while the SA prefers aether; SA uses certain armor materials, the Mishhu use slightly different ones (though Zesuaium is becoming popular with them).

Cobbling parts together to make a more complex vessel, be it an armor or a ship, doesn't really happen though in the actual RP; it's a tech design thing though. I mean, that's what I do all the time.

I get the idea about "geek speak." If you read into the ship's pages, you'll get bits of it here and there, but honestly the best protocols you could use are probably those of the U.S. Military, as Wes is a Reservist and is probably familiar with them. We try and keep to NATO/USM when it's possible.

Also keep in mind how often those situations might come up (rare). However, it might not be a bad idea.

Well, I'm asking this because I'd like to create a technology termology glossary when I get back. Not only will it help me learn the terms and understand the RP world better but it'll help newer players too.

I'm definately interested in adding a technology guide to the site. I'm aso considering using some standardized descriptions that I can link to to replace repeated instances of the same description in various starships, that way that system can be updated for all ships form a single location. The next major technology page I'm working on is one about the aether and its uses in the RP.

So, I've done this and I don't know the validity of it but Reynolds didn't say anything about it.

In regards to the MCAS, Edtoto and her affinity for language and computers altered the MCAS so that it didn't function with a SPINE, or an AES I believe. Instead it multi-roled the sensors all along her body to pick up how the nerves reacted. She had to design a whole new AI to operate with the suit in tandem which we roleplayed started out with a lot of problem. Command Lag ad other such things. We also deduced that the Vekimen Brain is significantly different from the ones programmed to run on the Neural-net which added an even larger reason for Edtoto to have this system in place.

So, to make it official, can you alter or create new AI's to operate in tandem with the AI's already built into Power Armour systems. Maybe have a subroutine built into a Mindy to allow it to use systems that are designed for NMX weapon systems so that Mindy operators can swap and shop while on the field should any of their systems become damaged.

Why would Edtoto have an MCAS? She's not a member of the Star Army of Yamatai so they're not going to give her (or loan her) Star Army of Yamatai stuff.

Yes, you can create new AIs but you can't alter existing ones, at least not the sapient kind (they have personhood rights). But modification of Star Army of Yamatai property is frowned upon (they want the gear back the same way they issue it - keep in mind Star Army stuff belongs to the Star Army and it doesn't' actually belong to the soldier using it).

She has an MCAS because the Taii gave her an MCAS to not get her killed with her subpar armour. This was also almost a month ago? Not to mention the AIES and the SPINE were removed. Neither of those are "AI" as far as I am aware, at least not according to the Wiki's. Edtoto did not Alter or Change an AI in the system because the base armour shouldnt have an AI in it. She just made one so that she could speak with the suit in her own language. Even its a Dumb AI.

I'm aware this is different from my original post, but given your questions, I had to do some research.
