Approved Character (Fred plot) NPC- Ketsurui Wakako

Kim

Here she is. There was some ambiguity about how long basic training would be for a Neko that had her mother's memories, but I figured that she would start phase 2 and 3 at Fort Victory and then go to Black Sands for the 3 months of Infantry training to keep her close to home. All of the training should keep her tied up until Rolf graduates Kyoto War College.

She's going to want to follow her parents on their mission once they get called to the follow-on Byakuren plot.

She would have all of basic imprinted in her so would not need to do those phases to my knowledge.

I have certain reservations about the carreer path.

So, there's Sora, granddaughter of Yui. Sora has explored many paths in life, trained in various vocations... and when she sends her daughter to train, it's to train as an ordinary Star Army soldier?

If she's meant to be kept close to home and that she's meant to have combat training, why not get it from the best? Sora is - after all - with the Ketsurui Samurai for a compelling reason.

That expertise can easily fill up to a year of training if need be, and partial training will still be journeywoman-level. And Sora keeps her daughter close, with what are arguably the best protectors in the Empire.

Ī actually hadn't considered sending Wakako through formal Samurai training. But if Wakako got all of the combat training she needed from the Samurai it would meet her goals. She was going to get some combat experience as an enlisted first before going the academy route in my mind but staying at samurai house and bothering the samurai longer would work as well.

I just don't see Wakako really wanting to be a samurai. But if she can join the Star Army and just train there with the samurai, that'd fill the widgets of what she wants. I wasn't trying to go too far outside the box but since she is Yui's great-granddaughter, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to make it happen.

And one of Yui's daughters went to Fort Ready as a E0 before, so it wouldn't be completelu unheard of. https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=characters:yamatai:ketsurui_rikou

I imagine, initially, that Wakako may not get much say to her safety and well-being with the threat of the unknown looming over. Still, as a person, she doesn't necessarily like the stuffiness or pomp of the Samurai lifestyle or their habits. To her, I imagine, it's one long tea-ceremony with a house full of doting mothers and masters, with sword-fighting in between. Heck, Koyama struck her path out to do something big as soon as she could, but even then she had the Samurai looming over her. This girl, Wakako, wants to go kicking out the door as soon as possible too, and her father would want her to develop alongside other soldiers to cultivate her ambitions and scrape off some of that classical innocence of a youngling.

Sure, there are some proper applications to fighting style to be learned with the Samurai, but what else? Wakako should learn the best and worst of Yamataian society early on, and as a princess she already knows the heights to where society go, especially with her mom's memories. From a Minkan's perspective on life, those early years will cultivate the core of her personality, and meeting and knowing people go a long way especially when they come from many different cultures. Not to mention an appreciation for the living standards for the common enlisted, and fire-eyed mentality in following in her parent's foot-steps.

Alright. If you're sure. :)

What about the memory thing. I read the text, and it seems to be implied that Wakako derives a lot of living experience from her mother's own living experiences.

Isn't that kind of unusual? As I understand it, younglings pick up knowledge from the mothers but it usually doesn't replace a lot of training (usually, it's the instrinsic/things needed to be autonomous stuff). I mean, Sora herself is a youngling, right? How much of Sharie did she get?

I've nothing against it. I just see an emphasis on it that I've seldom seen, and it raises question marks for me.

Well, after the original conception of the Neko, and one of the character's lack of understanding, it bared a necessity to try and understand how the rest of the process goes.

The Youngling Article said:
Military

The mother can impart to the youngling the equivalent of basic military training. This is done by imparting her memories of the period from activation to completing training. The Youngling will have the same skill set as the mother had upon graduation. Personality will also be similar to how they were at that age.

The way this reads, it seems like that Younglings, if the mother wishes, will actually live the first few months of their mother's life. To me, it seemed as though something that would have a significant effect on her development, considering how fully aware Neko are coming out of the womb. She's still at a rather early stage in her life, and a large part of her initial development comes from the influences of her parents and the people she is trained along with.

A lot of stuff changed as far as character creation in the past... 11 years of SARP. I don't think we touched on passed knowledge like this back then. I started Sora as a blank slate youngling that radically changed her appearance after her mother's death to not see her dead mother every day in the mirror. With how it reads now, Wakako's default beginning personality was all Sora but it shifted more the other way. =)

I'll confess to the questions asked being curiosity fueled mostly: if Kim - one of the people whom has been around SARP the longest - had certain preferences towards the topic I was interested to know what motivated them. The youngling subject is not that frequently broached, after all.

Okay, well, it sounds like you both know where to go with Wakako.

Who ends up roleplaying her? The wiki article says both Kim and Kokuten. How do you both think that's going to work out, exactly?

For IC motivation, I’ve been reading back through my old RP for all of my characters. Back when Sora has just joined the Sakura she and Yuriko has a discussion about younglings. Yuriko said she wanted to have a youngling with Cherry as a contributor after their mission to Eve’s stronghold with Sora’s help as a doctor.

Sora agreed to help and to wished that she had someone that she loved like that. That mission, the YSS Sakura was destroyed and Cherry killed. Later, Yuriko became pregnant and died in the Dark Ones castle to arm a bomb. Sora had to ST her friend back to life and help her cope with the loss of her youngling.

Sumaru’s main goal in life before he committed himself to be Sora’s Knight was to be a husband and have a family. But in becoming her servant, he threw away that life. And then.... he committed Seppaku.

These things told Sora that at 10 years old and with a threat of death looming over her that may never be a good time for her to find someone to love and have a youngling with. Her own birth was 3 months before her mother was died in action.

To her, the Shadow Viperd wanted her dead because she wanted to live her life like the humans did- peacefully as a sentient being that could have a future with a family. She fell in love with Rolf and realized that unless she acted, she might never get the chance to have a family.

She decided that she wanted to live. She wanted to have a family and Rolf just nudged her towards that idea that she could have that human sort of happiness if she took it.

With the knowledge that she was hunted and she would piss off those hunting her by daring to pollute the neko bloodline by having a mixed genetics neko with a Minkan, she wanted to give her child a head start at life by giving her child the knowledge to survive. She gave Wakako her memories of basic training and started her down a warrior’s path so she knew what dangers were ahead and be ready to face them.

Sora knew she was sheltered and protected even when she entered the fleet. She suspected this is why she was not promoted past Shoi Kohosei for so long but she felt that this sheltering set her up for the pitfalls she faced.

Sora wants to protect her daughter but wants her daughter to fight alongside her and Rolf in the fight against the Shadow Vipers and the next villain that wants to stop them from living a life they want to have. So, Wakako has Sora’s basic training memories and any training she could pass along.

As for who wil play her at any point, I think it’ll switch off between myself and Kokuten at any given point. I could see Wakako being in a constant state of motion and inspiring chaos. If Wakako is awake she’ll be into something.

I apologize for the typos of my last post. I’m functioning off a couple hours of sleep after being on watch all night and am typing on my phone. o_O I will edit as appropriate and answer any other questions as appropriate once I am less fuzzy.

I think it's fine.

I mean, I don't perceive myself as a character approver... but as far as inclusion in my plot (aptly pointed out in the thread's title: "fred plot"), I think this is fine and would personally Approve it.
