[HSC] - Blade Weapons

Everything but the A'ka Veltin utility tool is Approved.

Why does the Utility Tool have a damage rating of ADR 1? What keeps this object from breaking in combat -- it seems rather thin and weak for a killing tool.

SSharp,

Its ability to cut comes from the fact that the wire is a single molecule thick.

Monomolecular wire

Monomolecular wire

The concept is a staple of many science fictions stories. The wire being so thin can slice through most anything it hits. And unlike many of the instances the articles in this application the wire is held by the device so that it is kept taught.

Its original intention was for cutting through debris and such when boarding ships. If cutting through a large piece, it will cut in two inches and stop because that when the telescoping part hits. THen they have to move horizontaly, and pull up to remove a chunk then repeat. Cutting a pipe or wiring trunk, it will cut into and applying pressure along the cut would allow it to cut deeper.

I'll make my question better: "When it hits a body, what stops this thing from either breaking in your hands or being ripped out of your hands."

The tool seems very small and fragile for a combat weapon, and it doesn't look to be made of good material for combat.

It can cut -- alright. Damage isn't an issue. Fighting with it might be. If the blade is as thin as you say, then what stops the little bar behind it from breaking?

The bar is composed of Mâqirây (Bound Metal)

Which means its fairly durable, most likely isn't going to break being swung by a person. If the person was wearing an power armor then they might be able to damage the rod, bending it, which would then mean the weapon was no longer useful.
