League Sports

I'm thinking the field will have a 'ceiling' and 'floor' so to speak. The vertical edges of the gravity field would be out of bounds. However these fields would have to have some kind of preplanning to set things up. However the obstacle arrangement can be randomized by a computer so the field doesn't become too 'familiar' thus the field will reconfigure before every quarter.

This sport sounds very interesting. I think both the capture the flag and capture the base could be use to create two versions.

Sorta like Hockey I guess with it's variations, you know ice, table, roller, floor, pond, kitchen floor, field, scooter, sledge, broomstick hockey etc. ( :D Canada eh? )

I TOTALLY thought...'SPACE HOCKEY' off of the top of my head at first, anyway..I should think of some athletic/science mix for a sport. With a goal or something! Hmmmm.

This sport was featured in one of the short stories of a collection by the name of The Good New Stuff: Adventure SF in the Grand Tradition edited by Gardner Dozois. The goal was to produce a super stratigist for suvival reasons, not for entertainment, but other than that it is exactly what your proposing. You should look up the book.

You know, this kinda reminds me of the training/game from Orson Scott Card's novel Ender's Game.

They give the students laser pistols and throw them into a zero-G environment. There are a few obsactles/cover. But there was a goal they had to accomplish before they're whole team was wiped out. The exact specs of it escape me right now. But that's what I'm picturing when I see this game.

Oh, hey! I remember that. A good series, all in all. That's why this seemed framiler. Let's hope it's as exciting ^^

Hmm, matches held in space would be pretty cool. Altho I dunno how they'd be able to safely conduct that. Well, they could do it, they'd just need to really be strict about keeping everything maintained so there's no failures and the players don't get thrown into the vacuum.

And you gotta be f****** kidding me that the concept was already exactly proposed before. I know space lasertag like games isn't anything original, but to have it been exactly done before makes Hulk angry. But only because Hulk is sad too. Interesting though. I should go look that up.

Seriously, it is almost exactly like what you are proposing. The weapons were not rifles, but arm mounted laser weapons. Teams weren't limited to 8 unless it was a special situation. Finally there was a game mode where one team was trying to defend a gate that the other team was trying to pass through. Other than those things its almost exactly like what you are proposing down to the letter. I think you can come up with something a bit more original than Unreal Tournament meets laser tag anyways.

The game is a lot like the games that the Enders Game series was built around. While it all is very interesting somethings might want to be altered.

I'm working on it! I'm working on it! Sheesh.

Look while I'm driving home tomorrow I'll be sure to lend a few braincells to creating something more original. I'm sure somewhere during that 27 hour drive I'll be able to crank something out.

Alright! I got it! While driving, yes, while driving I was able to think of something. It was right about the time I hit St. Louis in Missouri that it hit me.

Okay I scrapped the laser tagging and thought of something else. Different sections would generate gravity in different directions as well as some areas with zero g to them. The players would start in the middle, a sphere would be tossed up. At that point players must gain control of the ball. The ball has a slight propulsion to it so if it is let go of it will move on its own slowly. The ball is considered in play until one team scores.

Players can catch, carry, kick, headbutt, use pretty much any part of their body to hit the ball in any direction, preferably to their team mate. They then try to get the ball to the other team's goal. The goal will have gravity fluxuating in random directions each round meaning you have to send the ball into it from the right direction or it will fall right back out.

Players can tackle each other to try and steal the ball from each other. No trampling, no direct punching, no direct kicking, no direct headbutting, or elbowing or, well, you know, don't actually try to strike the opposing player. Just tackling and rough housing.

Its like a combination of soccer/football/basketball/rugby. But with anti-gravity and lopsided fields of play. ^^

Sort of like the FFX mini game, but actually entertaining!?

You're not helping. >_>;;;;

I bet you can't pitch that game they play in Tron to me without reffering to it! I dare you!

Actually...that would be one hell of a game in zero-g! We should make it more original, and adapt something. I was just thinking of the big scooper idea...hmm.

Yes, sounds like a slight modification of blitzball.

A similar game also made a brief apperance in the Batman Beyond series.

I could have swore this has appeared elsewhere also. You'd be better off simply using an older game, it dosen't seem like you'll come up with an original one any time soon.

GO BESAID AURACHS! (or however thats spelled)

And for the love of god stop copying the post before yours in a quote. It dosen't add anything to your post. In the case of referancing a previous post for cleification reasons just say something like, "As Wes said," or "Like Tom said in his post."

I understand completly. B)

Oh come on. Give the guy some credit.

You know how hard it is to come up with a new sport from scratch?

I like the original idea.

As much as I loved to play Blitzball in FFX I really wasn't thinking about that when I came up with my hybrid. Besides they were underwater and this idea has gravity in areas.

Look, can we just be happy with the football/rugby/soccer/basketball hybrid and run with it? Call it an ugly baby if you like but if someone else can't come up with a better and original game then please let it be. I mean its not like we don't parley off of old cliche's on a daily basis anyways! >_>

Your going to end up like Tom did when making the FCP, trying way to hard on something that just isn't worth the effort.

and Rei, stop quoting the post before yours. I find that annoying.

I'll make a note of it.

At any rate, I've got a few things to think about, but if inspiration strikes me I'd be glad to offer an idea for an additional sport to follow your new one! ^^

I was wondering who was going to say that first.
