That person everyone says I am? I'm him, Fivemarks. And at the same time, I'm not the same Fivemarks that used to be here. I've spent the last few years on probation, actually making something of my life, dealing with personal issues, and actually trying to grow up into someone worthwhile.

I came back 'cause I got bored, and I wanted to roleplay in a sci-fi thing that wasn't "Star Trek" or "Just terrible, absolutely terrible", and because I thought Revolver was still here and he'd expressed through a mutual friend that he 'Missed Me'. I know I've lied to a bunch of people, but I'm honestly not here to cause trouble or start problems; I figured coming back without being sneaky about it would've just been seen as an attack or something. I'm just here to play, and that's it. No huge arguments over technology, no attempts to change the entire makeup and paradigm of the setting to make it my way, no attempts to force melee onto people who don't want it. I'm just here to play, and maybe make the few occasional setting element when things are slow or there's some need for them.

Haha! Called it!

Thanks for finally being honest about it. I do get a sense you've matured some since all that drama back in 2011. And if I suppose if Zack can get a new start under the ban policy, I think you can, too. Just stick to the site rules, be friendly, be helpful, and you'll be alright. Also, glad to hear you aren't in the slammer.

Edit: I merged your accounts.

@Kirkatan Your honesty is appreciated, and so is a degree of humility. I wasn't really involved in that drama back then, so I'm all for going forth and having a good second chance at things with you and Zack.

@Amaryllis I miss 5tar, his YSS Senbu plot was how I was introduced to the site back in 2008. :)

Alrighty @Kirkatan, if you're prepared to make a new start, I won't hold you back. I extended professional courtesy to you without knowing who you were, and I don't see any reason to change that now that the truth is out. All I ask in return is mutual respect, and so far you've been quite cooperative. It's good to see a familiar face - though unexpected!

I do hope you enjoy your time on the Val'ta as I will writing more for it in the future!

I'm not sure how I feel about ignoring ban-evasion... but hey. I didn't know you back then, so I'm not going to judge you for that now. Just stay chill, and we'll have no issues.

Not long ago we came up with a standard ban policy, and the maximum ban length for behavior issues is a year, so Five would have pretty much automatically won an appeal to be unbanned anyway, if he'd known to ask for one. Plus he's been gone for what, 4 years? So I'm not even going to worry about it.

That doesn't really make sense, Wes. By your own logic, there's literally no excuse for evading the ban and coming back instead of just appealing it, since he would've gotten the appeal anyway. As it is, that just comes off as "Well, he broke the rules, but oh well."

What's been done is forgiven, @Aendri.

We move on. To do otherwise it's pointless and divisive.

Kirk knows where he stands. He knows what he's up against. And he will find his way.

Best we do the same.

So long as he is given the same treatment as Uso/Zack, I don't care either way. What with being treated completely new.

Just to keep it fair.

I am completely unconvinced.

The fact that you utilized subterfuge for your return speaks volumes about how you view our intelligence. Claiming ignorance about an already extremely controversial revised ban policy does not exonerate you in the slightest in my view.

I have no problem with forgiveness, but forgiveness dies after about the 2nd time someone is ousted from a community. If you have truly changed, you will have to prove it somewhere else in the setting other than the DIoN.

Well.

I've experienced my moment of "Oh no, not Fiver again". But then, I wasn't surprised - you felt like the same kind of person to me. Though I don't really believe the "I turned a new leaf" thing. And then, I decided I didn't really mind - or at least was given no cause to mind thus far.

I do think you spared yourself from a lot of embarassment in the future. Wes would've found out given time. And not reacted this well.

If anything, I kind of relate. In my earlier internet days roleplaying a female character, I also pretended to be female as well so that people would take my female character seriously rather than treat me just like "some other bro". But eventually when I forged relationships with people, actually made friends, it was always pretty awkward to come out and eventually admit I lied. Eventually, I stopped to do so (or, at least, played the role until someone asked, but then told the truth). In my eyes, the advantage the subterfuge provided me didn't outweight the negative I felt I'd eventually face - so that pretty much put an end to it. Ultimately, it was one less hassle for me to deal with, and it was probably more mature on my part to come to that resolution as well.

Welcome back, @Kirkatan.

I hope that, despite the recent drama, you can settle in again and find some enjoyment out of the site.

As for the controversial ban ruling, I am not surprised that you hadn't heard of it. From my understanding, until it was declared, most people hadn't heard of it and a lot of the opinions and hype were reactions. Regardless, Wes applying the rule now, to forgive your ban, seems fair to me--at least within the bounds of the current community guidelines.

I flit in and out of the community sometimes. Over the last four years, I have on-and-off played here, and not, depending on my life situation and work situation, and so on. Hell, I've been playing here even before I joined the Navy (that was a long time ago, what, eight years?) Coming back intermittently gives me a rather broad perspective about the community as a whole, including its development.

I can even buy, for a minute, that Uso might, just might, have changed. If Uso, the very reason that the ban-forgiveness exists, can turn around and keep to himself and not make trouble I don't see a single reason why you shouldn't be extended a second hand too. That man deserves a medal for dedication. Literally the entire site wanted him gone except for one person and he spent enough time, I presume, trying to get back in that it literally changed the rules singlehandedly.

I've never seen the like of this community. I doubt I'll ever see it again. And I don't blame you for wanting to come back even if you were prepared to use some shady elbow grease to do it.

I'm going to close this thread because I think everyone's got a chance to say their piece and this thread doesn't seem to be headed anywhere that helps the site or anybody on it. Furthermore, I'm not cool with the staff's bans and unbans being the subject of public drama to be second-guessed or with the name-calling.

Ideally, bans and warnings should be a privately handled matter between admins/mods and the user who broke the rules. They are not a matter of public opinion and, more importantly, they're not anyone else's business.
