Mat looked to Meissa for instructions. "What do we do?" He asked, as he warmed up his weaponry in anticipation of the answer. Looking at his weapons readout he realized that he had neglected to bring any weaponry or drones, and was ill equipped for anti ship combat or point defense. Shit.

Space of No Apparent Danger

Anastasia hovered back a few feet as she finished scanning with the device. She gave the infantry neko a stern look as she glanced up from the scanner "There's nothing live, but-"

Space of Sudden Danger

Anastasia reeled back after realizing the squadron of unidentified craft appeared out of thin air. "It's a trap!"

She jetted away from the pod at high speed, swapping away the science scanner in favor of something that could shoot, in this case her Saber Rifle. She followed form with others and activated volumetric camouflage as she moved back into the cover of her squad members.

In response to the sudden ships, Orion took out his trusty sniper rifle, setting down on a spot far away from the fighters, somewhere where he could be pretty much a harmful nuisance to the bomber outlined in his HUD.

He breathed in and out, now waiting for the order to shoot...

"...let's do this"

Boss spoke up to Akiko, "I can not detect any impediment in the rest of the squadron's movements. They are currently coming to us, but not at the same speeds in which we flew in at. The communications officer can likely give more detail. Hasagawa-hei, if you wouldn't mind, please query the rest of the squadron on their status."

Although not quite the information I was inquiring about, analysis of my query permits me to understand the logic behind Boss-san's interpretation; in future queries, I s-

Eden's neck snapped to look at the red-headed sensors operator after Akiko had made her pronouncement.

"Deio-hei!?"

"Computing right now..." Deio Asuka said, "It looks like it fits the criteria, four meters by four meters by three point five meters. Or... Wait. She's right. It's actually negligibly smaller than it should be. I don't know why. It's almost like the Yamataium crumpled in on itself. It should be more triangular than it currently is. Asuka trailed off again, looking to Eden to finish her thoughts. Eden did not, instead she studied the volumetric display of the pod with a look of malice glinting in her eyes.

Fascinating, yet simultaneously peculiar, given that a large amount of force would have been required in order to exceed the physical limitations of the second-most resilient material known to the Empire; furthermore, this finding indicates a 65.19% chance (plus or minus 28.85%) that hostile forces were active within this Area of Operations during the last sixty minute-

Eden said, "Thank you, Deio-hei, Hayashi-juni. If the Santô Juni wouldn't mind assisting at the sensors station, that would be beneficial. It seems there are currently inaccuracies happening at it that may be rectified with her presence."

Orders received from the Commanding Officer, Shosa Teien Eden. Analyzing...done. My orders are to assist Deio-Hei at the Science/Sensors station. Are these orders valid? Yes; though I lack the specialized training required to operate a starship's sensor systems, my knowledge of electronic warfare and sensor evasion/detection techniques should enable me to assist in an advisory role. Do I accept these orders? Yes.

Asuka's freckled cheeks blushed and she nodded solemnly, shifting position for Akiko to either look over her shoulder or sit on the seat with her.

The Juni in question nodded and replied "Of course, Shosa," then silently - despite being clad in a distinctively non-stealthy environmental suit - strode over to Asuka and opted to look over the Hei's annoyingly-bright red hair, obviously attempting to avoid physical contact wherever possible; Akiko's newly-reconfigured cabin (to her infinite dismay) already threatened to subject her to that torturous experience plenty enough already.

"Whew. She's a serious one, isn't she?" the fox-like Neko muttered.

Recalling what sensors a Plumeria-class Medium Gunship is equipped with...done: a Mentafexal Electro-Gravitationally Accelerated Memory and Intelligence Integrated Electronics Suite. Analyzing the subsystems of the Mentafexal Electro-Gravitationally Accelerated Memory and Intelligence Integrated Electronics Suite...done. Determing optimal deployment and usage configurations... ... ...done

"Deio-Hei, utilize the Aether Wave Detection and Ranging System, the Imaging Array, Subspace Mass Detector, and the Forward Sensor Cluster Array to conduct a sca-"

A little peeved that Nashira-hei would double back on her own orders at the first opportunity, Eden called out over comms.

"What are you thinking? You can potentially injure or kill the inhabitants of the pod with a flashbang! This is a search and rescue mission, not a smash and grab one. I will let you know when that changes. If it does. No, stick to your previous task of sending in drones then a shielded infantry, and then a technician. We need all of the information we can get from this." Seeing Saki enter the bridge, Eden said, "That is all."

What? At what point in time where the occupants of the pod classified as hostiles requiring neutralization? The possibility of such an event occuring does indeed exist, of course, however, at 14.15% (plus or minus 30.37%) it is a scenario that is highly unlikely; given the nature of Teien-Shosa's outburst, though, I can only presume that it resulted from the mentioning of flashbangs from one of the away team's Elysian members, no doubt in a rush to sa-

Misaki instantly locked eyes with Eden and unknowingly she let out a small whine, and audible whine, a whine of worry.

Akiko whipped around to face the Kaiyō's Executive Officer. What in the name of the Empre-?

Her mind was telling her that suddenly they were at condition one, and she herself was at condition zero. Flushed and sort of hugging herself Misaki's eyes welled up as she spoke actual words instead of whining like a small girl,

"E-Eden... can we borrow you for a minute?"

She seemed to grow even more worried, she even seemed to be shivering slightly. She cut of another whine with two words that she heard echo around her,

"It's time."

Time for what?

When Saki made her pronouncement, though, Eden's eyes widened and she looked at her with excited, though pleading eyes. "Right now?"

What is occurri-wait. Based on the body language, expressions, and speech patterns of Teien-Shosa and Teien-Chui, there exists a 87.64% chance (plus or minus 11.67%) that...that....

Bridge

Misaki looked dead into Eden's eyes, "Yes now, I feel it." She continued her pleading stare while she continued to jitter a little. She put one of her arms around her midsection akin to hugging herself while holding out a begging hand to Eden. She let out a quieter whine while sending her feeling towards Eden through their encrypted mind link.

She was begging to go.

Akiko almost - almost rolled her eyes, letting out a quiet sigh of annoyance as she realized just what ailment was afflicting the Chui. Oh, for Empress' sake, could there possibly exist a more inconvenient time to give birth? Yet another example of why relationships are so extraodinarily inefficient and imperfe-

"Hayashi-Juni, you have the bridge!" Eden called out, rushing to Misaki's side.

She asked MEGAMI, "Get Royama-Heisho, the medic! Have her meet us in the med lab!"

"Right away, Shosa," Boss replied. Eden hurried Saki to the med bay with one hand on her far shoulder and another on the arm nearest her as her heels clicked against the hallway's floor.

How incredibly typical. Orders received from the Commanding Officer, Shosa Teien Eden. Analyzing...done. My orders are to assume command of the YSS Kaiyō until the Shosa returns. Are these orders valid? Yes, as while I have not been trained in starship command I am currently the only officer present on the Bridge itself. Do I accept these orders? Yes; although I strongly disagree with their necessity, I must obey them in order to preserve the chain of command.

"Acknowle-"

"Sensors are picking up a multitude of ships that just uncloaked themselves! There are what look like three cruisers and ten bombers!" Asuka said, whipping her hands around wildly to manually control the sensors station.

What? No!

"Sensors are showing they haven't recently been in FTL travel, they've been here this entire time! Eden what should we—" Asuka turned around to face Akiko and then gulped.

Akiko paled, struggling to keep her expression neutral as her eyes widened in surprise. Empress damn it, I am an intelligence agent, not a starship commander! I am not sufficiently trained or qualified for a situation such as this!

"Santô Juni, what should bridge crew and the power armor team do?!"

For the first - false, the second a tiny corner of her mind whispered - time in her four years of existence, Hayashi Akiko simply froze up, for she did not know how to react to the situation that was currently unfolding. She could, of course, eventually analyze, predict, and logically think her way to a response, perhaps even a series of responses - but that just wasn't good enough. Not when she had at most seconds to react to a rapidly changing sequence of events. Not when she had an extraordinarily large numbers of variables to consider when attempting to predict the enemy's next step. Not when she hadn't had the time necessary to plan for something that she hadn't been trained for. Not when the lives of her crewmates depended on how perfect she was - and not when she knew that she wasn't going to be able to live up to her own standards of perfection.

The moment she noticed Akiko freeze up, Nitô Hei Hasagawa Airi stood from her position on the bridge and slowly made her way to the place where Akiko stood. She tried to guide the operative to the chair of command.

"This is where you belong for now. Just for the time it takes to get the little one out, okay?" Airi said. Then, she went on to say, "I think you should have the comms officer try to establish that frequency to contact this vessel with and then read first rights of con—"

She was cut off by Asuka's sudden announcement, "They're firing what look to be torpedoes!"

A moment later, the ship lunged one way and then another and Airi was back at her station much faster than when she had left it. Asuka made another announcement.

"Shields are holding!" Both Asuka and Airi nervously looked to Akiko, then to Arbitrated. The success of the mission lay in the hands of those two.

Med Bay

As the ship moved one way and then realigned itself back to the position it had been holding, Eden spoke out to the away team.

"G-Squad! Now!"

YSS Kaiyo - Bridge

"Maximum power forward, evasives ready." the Neko told Akiko. She slammed on the throttle, causing...a bit of unnecessary stress on the inertial dampeners, but also catapulting the Kaiyo in a sort of loop, its nose pointing at the pivot point.

"Aligning for best angle of fire." Kyoi told her Elysian friend. "Think that's a good shot?"

Space

The platform the Infantry stood on got its own artificial gravity due to inertia as the pilot slammed on the accelerator, which caused Meissa to crouch on the other side a little.

"Launch drones now, decloak decloak decloak!" Meissa yelled over comms. "All weapons on your targets!"

Her four drones streamed towards the bomber marked in blue, already firing their weapons. She raised her weapon towards the red target, and started firing in rapid, continuous pulses.

Mission Ops/Communications

Riku looked over towards the SAINT, her standing in his eyes falling, again, as she seemed to freeze in the middle of an extremely tense situation. Despite the cool, analytic exterior she showed, he wondered if she wasn't just like every other Nekovalkyrja. Her first impressions upon him aside, the second time they met he had nearly died. The Minkan turned himself back towards the console, getting ready to follow through with that recommendation of reading the newly encountered ships their rights.

The ship and crew had done nothing to provoke them, though it was possible they had been watching them for some time, waiting to see what would come for the disabled escape pod. If this was their space then by their right they could have demanded their departure but before first contact could even be made, they had violated and invalidated diplomacy, which would give cause for immediate repercussions in the face of hostile intent as they were the ones to fire first. He hoped it wouldn't come to that. As of yet there was no dialogue, no attempt at communications on their part.

He decided to take the initiative, at least for the moment until Hayashi-Juni awoke from her stupor. Opening all frequencies, Riku attempted to make contact with the unknown ships, his hands clinging to the sides of the console as the pilot did her work.

"This is the YSS Kaiyō, Star Army of Yamatai, Sixth Squadron, First Expeditionary Fleet to all unknown vessels; cease fire immediately! We are not your enemies. We have done nothing to provoke you! If we have trespassed upon your indigenous space then by the rights afforded to you in the Rights of Early Contact Act, YE Thirty, Section Two; we will respect your wishes and depart immediately! If you continue to fire upon us, our hand will be forced!"

"MEGAMI! Send them a translation packet! Trade and Yamataigo! Make sure this isn't just some misunderstanding!"

"Understood. Packet has been transmitted on all short-band, wide-band, high and low band frequencies."

The Minkan had no idea if this was a native species of the Kikyo sector the Empire had yet to encounter, their lack of communication before opening fire would make it difficult to begin translating their speech - so he hoped they would at least say something back. Then he heard over the communications net, the Captain and Nashira-Hei ordering an attack.

His eyes became ice cold as he glared at the screen.

.....

With a resolute sigh, he sat up straight and began watching over the G-Squad members; the bright screens casting a glare off his solemn and dutiful eyes. At the very least, if the unknown ships received the packet, they would now know what language they spoke and begin to translate it themselves.

The Kaiyō rocked out from under her, but Hanna recovered her balance mid-space and sighted her Saber, firing at the red-outlined bomber. While firing a few bursts at the bomber, Hanna flew towards the Kaiyō as it moved away from her, seeking to utilize it for cover until better options could be found.

Once she was firmly planted on the Kaiyō, she concealed herself behind a curve on the hull of the ship, her eyes scanning for more targets.

Arblebarble yelped at the burst of speed, locking the second most powerful weapons she could onto the nearest cruiser. With the evasive maneuvers, the primary Shock Array wasn't weildly enough to keep in the opening volley with friendly armors too close and the ship rocking around. Saying that, turreted weaponry is much more nimble, and generally more reliable.

Immediate Ship Exterior
The seemingly unimportant bulge hiding Hanna began to rotate on the spot, being in fact a gun that was not there on the last outing. Giving Boss the full control over the Kaiyo's lighter weapons to create a terrifying field of golden aether, Shan sent a powerful tri-shot of hyper speed rounds directly towards its hull as the two larger turrets began to direct more specified firepower in the direction of the enemy bombers, splitting their targets due to semi-restricted firing arcs.

Bridge of the Kaiyo
"Stealth. Why is it always stealth?" Shan muttered to herself grumpily as she commanded the arrays of weaponry. Sure, there probably was no chance of hitting the away team at this range, but she also knew Meissa liked the danger zone a bit too much for her own good sometimes. "I need to make sure everyone is clear of that array, so we can wipe these bombers away easily. Kyoi, keep us facing the nearest cruiser whenever you can." Sure, if this was a normal Plumeria the tactic of rotating yourself so your heavily-armed dorsal section faced the enemy would be helpful, but the Kaiyo's unique rearrangements made for a much more forward-facing output of fury. Unfortunately, that was something the pilot would not have had experience with in a combat situation until this point.

YSS Kaiyo - Bridge

"Alright, aligning to enemy cruiser." Kyoi replied. Her hands slipped across the controls, causing the Kaiyo to line up directly with one of the enemies, main gun directly in-line with the enemy.

The weapon adjustments took a little getting used to. But, she could deal with it. Pointy end goes that way, and the rest works exactly how you'd think.

A flurry of Aether Saber fire rocketed past the window.

Medical Bay

Before Misaki knew it, it was already over. She found herself laid down, with a small bundle of Neko in her arms asleep. Saki looked up to Eden with a happy and tear filled look, grinning from ear to ear.

Royama had noted the time of birth, and spared a moment to stare at the couple and their newborn. It was always different looking at two people after they've suddenly become parents, although given the circumstances she knew it'd likely be short lived. But it was still nice to see, a good reminder that the ranking officers on board were still just people.

Eden looked as if she had never lived before until this moment. She felt as if the entire universe may very well have stopped moving and begun to spin around her daughter instead.

"This life..." Eden muttered. "Our lives are no longer just for us, Saki. They're for her, now, too."

Misaki smiled and nodded, the little one stirring just enough in her sleep to nuzzle up to her mother a little more. Misaki simply added on without looking up, "Head back to the bridge, get us out of this, and we can see if she wants to meet some people."

Eden let out a little sigh, then looked up to Royama, issuing orders by saying, "I want you to go to the power armor bay and suit up. Saki, where do you feel most comfortable being?"

"Will do, Shosa, just be sure to keep the lil' one out of harm's way, not that you need to be told that." The medic said as she stood up straight, brushed out her uniform, and left for the power armor bay. There was no time to waste, not that there ever was.

Once the medic had finished, Saki spoke. "I feel safest near the bridge, but I guess the Captain's Suite will do."

"Come, let's go there together. I would like you to be nearby, Saki..." Eden murmured afterwards, saying, "And you, too, Kikyō. I'd like to get to know you as soon as possible." She liked the way her child had Saki's Neko ears with raven-black fur and hair of the same color. She especially liked the little Neko's eyes, though. They reminded her of Kikyō mother's own. Eden added with a smile, "Little one."

Misaki picked up the sleeping eight inch tall youngling, which woke her up. Saki quietly began humming as she stood up and followed Eden to the bridge. Eden kept looking nervously behind her with wide, expectant eyes and once in awhile made soft utterances that weren't quite words.

Bridge

Once Eden had gotten to the bridge, Misaki quietly carried the youngling in her arms towards the captain's suite. Kikyo looked over Saki's left shoulder at Eden, the bashful look she gave giving off she knew who she was.

Eden's eyes longed to stay on Saki and Kikyō, but quickly scanned the bridge after Saki and Kikyō were out of sight.

William sat watching the bombers tensely, until...

Two torpedoes came streaking away from the bombers and struck the Kaiyo's shields.

They impacted the shields with a fireball and a shockwave. The shock wave struck William, but he recovered easily enough. He fired his thrusters and kept pace with the Kaiyo as she began her evasive maneuvers. His sensors trained on any incoming projectile. William quickly opened up a link to the Kaiyo bridge. "Ms. Deio, please keep me posted on any incoming threats to the Kaiyo. I will intercept..." He asked, in a flat monotone voice that disguised his true bloodlust. He checked his ammo one more time and prepared to fire.

He gritted his teeth and spun back to see a bomber trying to set up for an attack run, and he cursed. He didn't have enough fire power...

However...

He checked his HUD to see which of his allies was closest. That turned out to be Hanna. "Incoming, 6 o'clock high... I could use assistance." He said over the comms to Hanna, as he turned and fired of several salvos of plasma fire at the incoming bomber. The constant stream of fire seemed to deter the strafing run, but his weapons did little damage to the shields.

He took off, flying at top speed to intercept the bomber as it attempted to once again set up for an attack run. Once he caught up, he flew parallel to the craft on its starboard side and keep firing round after round of plasma bursts into the bomber as it attempted to set up again.

Space/Love is a battlefield

The armored neko was breathing heavy. A number of things going on had somewhat dampened her mood, over the course of many days. She had been fairly stressed. The sounds echoing within her mindy weren't improving things, just her breathing reverberating back at her, the sound of her own quickened heartbeat, and every minute movement, causing friction to irritate her ears with the sound of fabric rustling. It was made worse by the idea of immenent combat in SPACE. A mindy could do that of course, but from her experience it was generally a bit one sided. Even the point defense weapons on most space craft could floor her. She decided she didn't like combat in open space anymore. Not even the amazing view of the cosmos could make up for such a stressful act. It wasn't so much the feeling of doom close at hand, but the unfairness of it, and how hard it was to assist fellow squadmates in these areas.

So consumed was she by these thoughts, that she was a full second behind in her reactions as meissa ordered them to fire. It took a second longer still, for the gattling rifle to spin up after that. When she finally unleashed her torrent of firepower, it lit up the sea of stars, right along side the rest of the squad's shooting. As she fired, she moved. She moved as fast, and erratically as her armor would allow, only keeping a fair degree of accuracy thanks to the mind'ys systems, intuition, and some measure of luck. She hoped none of the others would attract the attention of those nasty guns.

Space

Saki's prayer was received by the angel in her life.

Meissa looked up for a second, not enough to stop shooting, but enough to lose lock on the current bomber. A wild shot streak into the one flying next to it in formation, pinging the wing. A small scratch, compared to the flurry of damage sustained by the one all the Infantry were focusing on, which was smoldering with Aetheric burns.

Not yet, Meissa decided. Hit it more.

She sent Saki a message telepathically: a packet of family warmth mixed with a slight sense of urgency as she focused back on the bomber at hand.

"Hey, mom. How's it going?" she asked with her packet.

Space

Upon feeling the disturbance beneath her, Hanna swiftly launched herself off the Kaiyō and landed on a different part of the ship. As Hanna turned towards a Reaper to her left, she heard her name in the comms.

"Incoming, 6 o'clock high... I could use assistance.", said William, who also seemed to be on the hull of the Kaiyō.

Hanna got on a knee and shot a few pulses at the incoming bomber. William rocketed up towards the bomber and shot a few plasma bursts at it, but he needed her support. The red-outlined bomber was already disabled, so she knew what she had to do.

"William!", Hanna screamed as she rocketed up towards the bomber, "Keep harassing it! I can cut the hull with the saber!"

She increased the energy to her thrusters as she activated her rifle's saber and lunged onto the bomber, aiming to cut open the cockpit and to expose the pilot to the vacuum...

Captain's Suite

The message that Meissa sent caught Misaki off guard, taking her off of her cloud and back to reality. She sat down in the chair across from the bed and began trying to get Kikyō back asleep as she responded,

"We're all fine here, come back for us okay? Someone wants to meet you."

Saki sense the urgency in Meissa's voice, and found herself gaining worry. The minutes old Kikyō found herself sleeping again, and Misaki carried her over to the bed. Gently placing her on the mattress and tucking her in, Misaki thought out to the angel again. She sent motherly loved wrapped in a calming emotion, followed quietly by a soft hummed tune.

Misaki concealed her fears while she laid above the covers gently running her hand through her daughter's hair. Kikyō has begun sucking her thumb, and appeared to be falling into deep sleep. Misaki on the other hand, was wide awake with hidden worry.

Power Armor Bay

Better late than never to jump in, Royama thought to herself as she arrived at the power armor bay, she just hoped she wouldn't have to actually do her job. It wasn't that she was lazy, she certainly wasn't, but doing her actual job during times like this meant someone needed to be injured, and she'd much rather spend her time preventing her crewmates from getting hurt than having to fix them after the fact. It was somewhat amusing, in a morbid sense.

The medic was quick to suit up, despite being caught up in her own thoughts for the moment, and soon she was ready to go.

"Shosa, any specific directions, other than 'help'?"

"Next target!" Meissa shouted over her comms. She highlighted the next closest bomber in red, and swung the great Infantry-powered beam array of mass destruction onto its next unfortunate victim. Fortunately for that one, it was a little smarter as the bomber dove downwards and gained distance from the Kaiyo while dodging most of the shots.

"Target out of range, next target!" Meissa shouted again, switching the Infantry's focus onto another bomber.

Internally, Meissa took a little time to register what Saki just said. Someone wants to meet her? She threw around a few numbers in her head. The realization of yeah, that seemed about right made her stop. The panic, dormant from Saki's reassurance from days before, now began to boil again, a thin undertone as Meissa sent her own message back.

"I'll try not to come home the undesirable way. How is she doing? What's she like?" Meissa asked Saki as she scored a good hit on the wing of the bomber. By all intents and purposes, she was a sort of "big sister" to little Kikyo now. She didn't really know whether to accept the responsibility or not. Saki would help her, she knew that, but...what should she do? She spent too long worrying about how she was unfit, that she didn't think about how to help her new "family member."

And no. Bringing home a war trophy as a gift was not an option. That was silly.

Abarthuse snapped back to attention as the Kaiyo suddenly began it's evasive maneuvers, and the muffled thumps of cannonfire sounded through the ship's interior. "Damn, things are getting serious out there..."

He wpuld certainly be needed there soon, and the thought of being out there in the void of space, where his serpentine body was the least at ease was an unnerving, to say the least...nevermind the fact he wans't sure exactly what they were fighting in the first place...

He soon noticed Royama-hei entering as well, suiting up and ready to deploy. Guess this was gis signal to get out there with the rest of the squad... "Yo. Guess this is the part where the backup comes in?" He slithered over to her side, steeling his mind so he could deploy any second.

Anastasia reeled back to the safety of the Kaiyō's grasp alongside the other comrades. Upon Meissa's commands, she rained fire upon the closest enemy bomber, targeting any visible engines with her Saber Rifle. She continued to move erratically between shots. They had to take down enough of these ships to spark a retreat, from suits.

It was just a little frightening to the technician, especially considering the decrepit state of the allied pod had to have been recent. And how did these ships hide?
