{NAM} 12mm RPB Pistol

SUBLIMEinal

Well-Known Member
Producer Information
Designer: Nepleslian Arms and Munitions
Manufacturer: Nepleslian Arms and Munitions
(Suggested) Price: Military use Only

Nomenclature Information
Name: NAM 12mm RPB Pistol
Type: Rocket-propelled round
Role: Military-issue Sidearm
Length: 31.2 cm
Weight: 2.9 kg

Discharge Information
Projection/ammo type: Rocket-Propelled Bullet
Firing Mechanism: The hammer strikes the firing pin of the rocket, sparking the propellant, which shoots the rocket forward. The expelled propellant gas knocks back the hammer, re-cocking the gun.
Caliber: The round is 12mm wide, and about 3 cm long.
Effective Range: About 200 meters is as far as human accuracy can take the round without some kind of stabilization.
Maximum Range: Up to 2000 meters, with maximum power gained at 200 meters
Minimum Range: Rocket will be ineffective within 1 foot of firing.
Muzzle Velocity: Leaving the barrel, the round goes about the speed of a low-velocity bullet. About 3 feet from the barrel, the primary charge ignites, and the rocket gets an intense burst of speed, bringing it to about 200 mph above the speed of sound.
Muzzle Blast: The muzzle flash is extremely small, only a small amount of exhaust from the rocket, with a small hissing sound. There is a slightly larger bang when the primary charge ignites, and a rapid expulsion of gases can be heard, but this occurs a ways away from the gun itself.
Firing Mode(s): Semi-automatic
Recoil: The recoil is minimal to the point of going unnoticed by most shooters, and one tester even reported “negative recoil,â€

1. The weapon is immensely heavy for a sidearm -- this is a pistol, isn't it?

2. It has a very low capacity. After he blows his six rounds shooting slower-moving rockets at me from several meters away, which I might be able to dodge, or at least close the gap between, I'll just cap him with my laser/energy/slug gun that moves much faster and has a lot more ammunition.

3. It is overkill. A 15 mm round for a sidearm? Rocket or no, a smaller round can do much better and allow for more firepower.

4. Has the stock of sidearms left over from Zen Arms production really been extinguished already?

5. What's the real target? Because power armor could probably dodge or even take the rocket rounds without slowing much.

I'm not trying to attack your idea here. The Gyrojet was given a bad rap, and it's a good idea. But we need more here -- starting with velocities of the round at each stage of "life," as it were.

I also question why you need such a gun as a sidearm -- a weapon that's supposed to be light, handy and used as a backup.

Thanks for feedback. Made some fixes.

I made the round rather large due to Neplesia's infatuation with big weapons.

Also, while there are probably millions of the Zen weapons left, Fian wanted me to make a weapon for the greens by the greens. It's a show of indepence from Zen, really.

The round would be mostly for anti-personnel and self-defense on-world or against boarding parties. Obviously, nothing above a cyclone would be harmed by this in the least, and it wasn't intended for anything else, really.

I hope that's a little better.

... I guess .50-caliber isn't as big as it could be.

It should be noted that if this round only gets up to the speed of sound, it's not very quick -- so it's not generating much energy. For a fucking pistol, it's insane, but just so you know; most rifle rounds would waste this thing in terms of energy.

Could I make it faster?
On the wiki page, I didn't see anything really about a maximum speed, so I was really just playing around with it.

I suppose you COULD ... but at some point, you're going to get into the realm of just strapping an ion engine onto a bullet.

It's still incredibly powerful for a pistol. I wouldn't worry too much.

Overall I think it is good, but the effective range needs to be edited. Effictive range is, in general, the longest range a user could reliably be expected to hit a target at. While this weapon (having almost zero recoil) would have a longer effective range, I think it should be 100-125m at the max since physical restriction of keeping a one handed weapon stable will limit it past that irrelevant of the accuracy of the weapon itself.

Ehhhh ... that's an interpretation. I'd agree with it, but still.

Maybe hand out folding bipods for it? Hehe.

Use the other thing. Basically, the purpose of this forum is to help submitters smooth an idea before it's dumped into the approval abyss, and it gives us a heads-up.
