[NAM] Tandem class tandem power armor

Boots removed, metamaterial named, shield rating changed to better reflect power output.

As far as the NDI is concerned I'm sure they could make something like this if they wanted. Nepleslia would have designed the tech themselves as it doesn’t really use anything that is NDI specific. I don't see any reason why they should be excluded from designing decent tech.

Are there changes that need to be made to the descriptions of the weapons and such to better reflect the armor as a planet based anti-air platform?

1) "Glaze..."
2) The material itself is not named. You named the stealth/holographic system. All other instances have been "Meta material."
3) "Glaze?"

4) 135 lbs is too god damned light for a two seat powered suit Uso. You have a suit, which alone probably weighs over three hundred due to it being overly armored since it can expand like a Stretch Armstrong doll, and another unit on it's back which can also hold a human sized object.

5) Having a Ranked 9 class heavy weapon on a powered armor is probably one of the silliest things I've seen since you tried to push 45 ly/min.

6) The Gunner pod is too bulky. Since the Gunner it's side saddle, that means you're taking up at least a good four to five feet for the back of the pod. The Suit's arms wouldn't be able to swing back behind it.

7) A secondary weapon that can deal rank 7 damage is also a little heavy for a Nep suit.

8) There are far to many things that are embedded in the Meta material skin of this suit. ADFields, Audio sensors, A stealth/holographic system web and a loud speaker...

9) The point of having Emergency Point to point as well as an emergency repulsor field are contradictory. Have one or the other.

10) Seriously, "GLAZE?"

Finally) I want you to tell me more about this Negative Energy recoil drive, as well as what caused you to think it up. Add sources and the like, if you could. It interests me, but it also makes me uneasy.

DR 9 represents the maximum possible damage that the weapon could achieve from slamming something into the ground after dragging it down from orbit.

That is a constructive criticism. I'll change the description and damage rating asap to better reflect the context intensive nature of the weapon.

135 pounds IS a bit on the light side, Uso. You're making Yukari feel fat, and I won't stand for it. Maybe 135 kg instead? Mindy are light enough.

This is what bothers me. What excludes them from designing tech on this level is canon, and that's an argument we could go around and around on ala Justin Timberlake (*shudders*).

(Highlighted for tl;dr) If Wes wants to come around and say, "Nepleslia is capable of doing this," without any qualifying statements, so be it. But I want that in writing because NAM hasn't shown it's capable of this.

The Tandem was designed during the NSS Alliance’s Mission to Elysia.
Designer: Wazu
Where does Wazu find the time to draft and test all these inventions when he's the XO of an active starship?
I agree that this seems out of place - Wazu was never once mentioned as working on any designs during the NSS's mission to Elysia, as far as I know. And has the Alliance actually gone there yet? I would prefer some excerpts from the actual roleplay to support this power armor's creation.

Airborne.

The armor itself is more bulky than most other armors
Mass: 135 pounds powered.
The weight makes no sense - it weighs less than I do, even.

Mach 0.5 – Underwater
Not sure this is realistic.

Speeds: 1ly/min Point to Point
Short Range Point to Point FTL:

The armor contains a short range point to point fold drive system that is powered by a capacitor system fed by the armor’s Zero Point energy Generator. The capacitor takes around 15 seconds to charge up the massive amounts of power needed and in combat is always either charged or charging. The FTL is designed for short hops, defensive moves, and for initial deployment to the combat zone.
Er, how are you going to fit a 1LY/min fold drive in an armor? The best I think you could do with current/near future tech would be a large backpack extension or a sled. Not to mention this this would fail in any sort of interdiction field, which the armor will be attempting to project.

Just FYI, a tiny interdiction system on an armor isn't really going to significantly effect big starships--it's also going to make the armor glow on sensors when it's on.

Negative Energy Recoil Drive
This needs a seperate submission.

Emergency Displacement Sensor System
This is a good idea - the Mindy's teleporter unit does the same thing. Being disoriented for a moment is better than being vaporized.

Metamaterial
This needs a seperate submission.

Embedded under the metamaterial skin are a series of pressure sensors that are tuned to detect and interoperate sound waves. These sensors are accurate up to 150 feet and up to twenty miles under water.
Would you be able to have these with all the armor and stuff on there?

It can also be used in a secondary mode to impart acceleration onto a ship or power armor. Against an undefended ship the intense acceleration can be used to kill the crew or alternatively cause the ship to crash into the planet.
The recoil from this would kill the power armor's pilot long before it was strong enough to injure a starship's crew, I think.

intense waves of negative energy
*imagines a bunch of frowny faces coming from the gun* Seriously, negative energy?

No, the NSS Alliance has not left port yet. Sense we have spent plenty of time at a star base I assumed there would be plenty of time for doing other things. I also don't remember most of the other ships on this site having their designs RPed out especally when only one person is designing them.

It has already been well established earlyer that RPing by yourself is not RPing as such I would not be able to RP the design anyways.

The point to point is designed for extremely short distances. The device would be fitted into the backpack unit on the tandem and work in concert with the fairly large negative energy drives which would provide the bulk of the space warping properties of the point to point. I originally included it because I thought it would be a cooler way of transporting troops to the surface of a planet. I figured a device could be built small enough to be practical and useful when plugged into the ship’s power source and sense I have the device on there I might as well include some sort of minor teleport like abilities while its on the surface though I do not intend to have the armor going great distances all on its own.

Perhaps I could keep the point to point if I add in more description on how it is incredibly short range unless plugged into an alternative power source?

As far as sonar goes I don’t see why I wouldn’t be able to put a sonar system under the armor itself. By this point in time they should be incredibly small pieces of hardware.

The recoil from the weapon would not harm the pilot because the armor would be anchored to the ground by the gravitational anchors when the weapon is in use. This why not only should the armor be able to beat the power output of the opposing power armor shield with its dedicated generator but it should be able to seriously out mass it by tying itself to the mass of the planet.

Check negative mass. You can call it anti-gravity if you’d like but I used the term negative energy to keep consistency with the earlier text about the drive system.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but I don’t believe that tech has to be pre-approved elsewhere before it can be up for approval in a submission.

*sighs* You are wrong, Uso. It's an unwritten policy that gets us into a certain level of handwringing sometimes, but it is the policy -- if you introduce seemingly unheard-of or radically different technology within a submission, you must have that technology pre-approved first.

This idea really became the law due to the Lorath's need for technology. It's been adopted for everyone, as it seems like a good idea.

The form factor, layering system, OS, rapid deployment system and synthetic muscles look awfully familiar.

I'm never sharing ideas with any of you again.

I hate to break it to you, but syntehtic muscle, operating systems, rapid deployment, form, and layering weren't your original ideas. If you need to vent steam go do it in the discussion forum.

I'm trying to have a laugh, Uso.

Happy times, away from the drama in your other thread.

It's not like we copyright stuff.

That would be really petty.

Oh, sorry then. Its hard to tell sarcasm using text alone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, the NERD has been approved and the metamaterial approval thread has been deleted. I changed a few things including some description and minor edits to the point to point FTL. The maximum range has been reduced to 50 feet without an external power source. I added more description to the active denial field and links to information about the metamaterial have been included in the metamaterial discription.

Well, as Scarlet pointed out in the Numina thread, the NERD is a limited item at the moment, which means the Tandem isn't exactly something that would be in mass production.

Although most of my real issues with the armour have already been addressed, I still feel its probably a good bit above the ken of what Nepleslia should do about now. That said, being that it would be a rather limited-production item, I don't have much concrete complaint against it.

Every single [NAM] submission now has a NERD.

That's not limited production when every new thing that [NAM]'s making will be using this thing.

Minor edits made to grammar here and there.

Point to point FTL has been removed.

Top speed has been reduced.

Primary gun description has been watered down.

All instances of intradiction replaced with interdiction.

Is there anything else that needs to be changed?

Despite how weird this kind of armor is, it's properly re-made and I find nothing wrong with it personally. (Aside from the NERD system, but that's another problem)

If Wes dubbed it limited production and every new thing NAM makes uses it, clearly every new thing NAM makes is extremely limited production with very little in actual numbers. Simple logic.
