Art new designs, lovin DOGA

just some ship designs I came up with, and plan to create some wiki pages for with hopefully some assistance. expect more entries soon, and tag me if any interest anyone.

The palladin is twice the size of the U1
you know, I thought about making a giant Mecha from that big Doga bot in my art thread but ultimately decided against it because the logistics of mecha become significantly harder to accommodate as their size increases.

Not only that, think about the Titanfall series. The Mecha in that series could fight in urban areas using small buildings as cover and could engage enemies without leveling the infrastructure they were fighting to capture/defend.

Now compare that to the Gundam series, where each robot IS a building. What is it going to use for cover? Odds are that all the smaller guys are going to be using IT as cover!
Granted, it might be more useful in space where cover is not present since it can be equipped with larger Shields and more armor, but it's still worth noting that at a certain size evasion is no longer an option and the mecha will be forced to tank the incoming fire, which is going to suck if you're already damaged.

Production cost and speed is another factor, consider the relationship between the Sherman and Panzer tanks of WWII.
When comparing the individual level the performance of the Sherman tank paled in comparison to that of the Panzer. With better armor and a bigger gun it would decimate a Sherman tank... but then the three other Sherman tanks would poke it to death! It is a good reminder of balancing quality and quantity.

Most importantly remember the scale of the story you want to tell. If you want your battle to destroy cities a giant Mecha is a perfect setting choice, but that may not always be preferable. ;)

Gundams DID use buildings for cover, Rizzo. That's why Guntanks were able to thrive until the Mobile Suit (which could peak over and fly over the cover as well), eliminated its viability.

I do agree, though, that something over twice as large as the U1 is bordering on massive sizes for even Gundams. IIRC, the tallest Gundams were 16-ish meters? The U1 I think is 10 or something (since it dwarfs the Origin machines of 8 meters)? Going bigger than Gundam definitely puts them at risk since they lose the benefits of a man-shaped fighter in space and on the ground.

Lies and slander!

The Sherman was pretty much the best tank of WW2. Superior crew survivability, optics, weapons, build quality, etc. even post war is was still used heavily and the only nation to operate both Panthers and Shermans didn't retire their shermans to make room for more panthers largely because the panther's optics weren't very good which made it not as effective as the Sherman at ranges that mattered.

In comparison to the tiger, they could both penetrate each other at normal tank combat ranges, but the tiger was largely a non functional death trap due to poor design and poor quality of manufacturing leading to most of them being lost early in any engagement.

Edit: the three Shermans to a panther thing is also a lie. The allies didn't have tank units smaller than 3 tanks, that just how they operated, not an indication of quality.

Also: the U1 is a truck, it'll do everything. I've got no problem also having some specialized platforms in the mix and we can all always share technology between units.
