New Starfighter?

Ok then, well I still want to build some kind of fighter so if you want one tell me what it is and I will do my best to get in done after christmas.

The concept of power-armors themselves is just plain stupid.

You go on to say they have uber thick armor, shields (which shouldn't even be on something so small) and high maneuverability.

You've given this thing over-technology.

I hate to say it, but if you're turning away really interesting (read: FUN TO ROLEPLAY) stuff like fighter dogfights in favor of cartoonish power-armor, be prepared to lose as many players as you do.

You're headed towards a burn-out and from what I've heard, players are anticipating it.

strange, it's been like that longer than I've been here, and nobody except the two newbies seem to have a problem...and nobody's forcing them to stay...

I am going to have to agree with Jatsu here.

The people who RP here by and large do not want dog-fights in shuttles. We're not really that sort of RP, and our players seem to understand this. The power armours are very popular amongst RPers and so far I do not know of a single player who has made a major complaint about the lack of fighers or the prominense of power armours. Other than yourself of course.

We like our cartoonish power-armour monsieur, it leads to more personal Role Play since power armours are something a bit like your body and not something completely different. It allows for a far more diverse set of situations to be RPed in, and for the RP to be of a higher quality. Dog-fighting is good for very little.

But you attack the concept, and this is interesting.

Who are you to say we shouldn't have shields on soemthing that small? This RP has a very high technology level and it is up to Wes what is suitable for his RP. Not that the truth is going to make any difference to you but the majority of power armours don't actually have shields. The Mindy, Kylie and Lamia? None of these have shields as standard.

Their armour is not 'uber thick', simply very strong, and there is nothing wrong with their manouverability. Can you come up with an intelligant and rational reason for why they can not be manouverable? Or really why they're too small to have shields? Or really why they are stupid? Because so far ... that's been lacking.

And I challange you to find a player who has left, or who is considering to leave this RP because we have power armours over fighters. Yourself excluded.

It's really just a preference. The NDI favors its X series starfighters over power armors because they are:

1) Unmanned (i.e. less casualties/expendable)
2) Better armored
3) Faster/More acceleration
4) Heavier weapons packages

And the X series starfighters are on par with, if not better in their combat roles than their Star Army counterparts.

Of course, the NDI (as per the redesigns that will be released in the upcoming Field Manual: Nerimian Confederation) doesn't field fighters that are anywhere near the size of modern-day fighters. So the whole miniturization issue rings true for the Confederation as well.

Please don't kick old posts up. And please don't act like you're so much better than everyone else here because you don't like power armors. I've already received complaints and I only got in twenty minutes ago. You're welcome to your own opinion, of course, but please don't act smug and pretentious about it.

Ah, sorry guys.

I got on a bit of a roll after a few beers.

They're not stupid, I'm just not used to playing with them and the idea of being without a shell thicker than a few meters around one of my characters makes me automatically feel they're a bit vunerable in space.

Really sorry guys.

I wasn't offended; fighters are welcome.

Designing these fighters will open up a new side of RPing for star army, think of them as B wings from star wars, massivly powerful weaponry, however they will have the speed and agility to fend of power armours, also they will be useful for hit and run tactics, strafing ground targets and weakining defenses for an infanty assault.

Forgot presicion strikes, blanket bomings.. long range recon/deployment of small special ops teams and giving mig-29s the bird while fully inverted.. You know, good stuff.
