RP: NSS Sledge Mama [NSS Sledge Mama] Ep. 3 - Into Steel

Max noticed that the massive bot was still headed their way. His attack only irritated the machine, but he wasn't about to let it get any closer. Leveling his cannon and plasma rifle, Max peaked from behind his cover before firing another incendiary grenade at the machine, hoping to hit the center of the war machine. As the grenade left the chamber, so did his guass cannon and plasma rifle. He finished up his assault with a couple of mini-missiles headed towards the war machine, all aimed center mass into the machine hoping to take it down.

Vaikon observed the situation with his drones, shocked as his enemies shrugged off the rounds. He peaked over his cover, resting his LASR on the train car before laying down fire, with a stream of about 40 rounds ejected from the rifle and colliding with the Militant closest to him.

Vaikon then had a really stupid idea, but one that just might work. "Anybody have grenades or something like that? If so, I'd like to borrow one. I got a really stupid fucking idea."

Like the world had gone mad for a minute, the squad furiously fought the fight that suddenly started.

Firing on the automaton in front of him, Richard's fire quickly went skywards as mini-missiles leaped up in the air and arced down at both him and Terrance from above. His rifle rapidly hammering away, his aim chased them down as the stream of fiery tracers lashed out as the warheads sought him out, Terrance rapidly firing away with his wrist mounted SMG. Explosions burst in the air as one after another was shot down in a heartbeat, but they closed in fast. Bearing down on them like they had their names, another gun quickly joined theirs and cut through the swarm!

Rachael covered them and advanced as fast as she could to their dias, her shields tanking the suppressive fire the two militants pumped out from their wrist. Literally feeling the heat in her suit like a hot sun suddenly shining down on her skin, she stuck to cover and kept an eye out for more mini-missiles. Seeing the opportunity, Richard moved as she did as well, with her taking his place as he made it to the second, inner set of train cars. His own shields flashed and crackled as both Militants' dual wrist mounted plasma repeaters spat out hellfire; what paint and polish of the station that was still intact was now burning into ash. Under new cover, his fingers slightly fumbled with a fresh magazine as the train car he stood behind was steadily being eaten up. Only able to slap it in, both Terrance and Rachael were faring only a little better behind their marble protection.

At the same time, though the other marines had a good line of sight on the smaller Militants, they were more than busy.

Quentin shoved a new magazine into his service rifle's launcher as the giant machine began to loom over them all. As it literally walked through the wreckage, he was forced to back off, the shoulder mounted Aether cannon flashing bright white light at it as he did so. The air itself died as the shots impacted, armor plate boiling and bursting off of its hull like sticky syrup as matter was erased, the surviving bits super-heated to near uselessness. Hearing him, Ylfa shouted back,

"That's Vaikon! His suit's the one with the teleporter and the aether blades!" Bringing both of her cannons to bear alongside Max and Mark, the three fired into its hulking form as it emerged from the ruined train cars. The incendiary round blossomed into fire over its chest, plasma bolts boiling away armor before massive gouts of high-velocity sparks flew as blindingly fast cannon tracers slammed into its incendiary weakened hull. Embedding themselves into the thick armor plate, cracks slowly started to spread across its surface

Unlike the others, Vaikon focused on the smaller Militants, even as the giant broke through. Bringing his rifle to bear and popping up over cover to fire, he let loose a stream of fire which hammered into the exposed war-machine. "Just say what you want done damnit, you're wasting time!" Ylfa yelled at him. Though he sent it toppling over with the surprise burst, scrambling to get back up, it fell out of his own sight behind its rounded marble dais while being exposed to the others. Even then, horror gripped him. The giant was through. Splitting the marines at the first set of train cars in half, both Ylfa, Quentin and Mark were to its right with Vaikon and Max to its left.

It simply leveled an arm each at both parties and fired, pummeling them with high explosive plasma rounds as they moved for cover! Vaikon and Max had some train left to take cover with, and it looked like they'd need it fast. And though Mark had the right idea to start making it for cover, the best he could immediately see was the far end of the train!

"Punch out!" Ylfa yelled to the marines with her, firing her thrusters to leap over the unbroken train cars.

As the giant militant came through, Vaikon's face instantly turned pale. He fired his Aether Cannon at the Giant's head, hoping mainly to distract it. "Quentin, MOVE! And slide me something that will make a big boom if you could!" yelled Vaikon.

He ran towards the beast, hoping that Quentin would slide him something explosive. "If I could get some cover fire that would be great. Ever heard of a stun grenade? Well just think of one, slightly larger, man-portable one and you'll imagine what I'm fixing to do!"

Vaikon was hoping that his armor would sustain his plan. There was a high likelihood he would be killed, but he'd go out in a flash, literally. He had made up a plan in his mind. He was going to use his
Teleportation Unit to teleport while in front of the giant, and if his plan went right he would stun the thing and allow the rest of the squad to open fire. And if he got some explosives, he could teleport behind the giant and stuff some explosives down it's throat, literally. Maybe even use his blades, as Quentin had recommended, to hamper it's movements.

Things went less than stellar for Richard, but at least he managed to reload and get behind his new cover safely. After quickly surveying the situation he noticed how much trouble the others were having with the larger militant, he didn't expect so many to move to help with the diversion. He took a moment to get a lock on the larger one and send out the six missiles he was planning for the smaller ones, but now all aimed for the exposed back of the larger hulk. Of course he didn't want the missiles intercepted so right after firing he popped out from cover and began to lay down heavy fire trying to keep the two smaller militants behind cover so they couldn't shoot down the missiles.

Terrance had been about to fire a counter-measure at the enemy firepower coming down around his and Richard's ears when the mini-missiles were removed from the equation. He took the time to eject the magazine from his LASR and insert a new one, glancing over to see who had backed the two up. "Rachael, you're a rose!" He shouted appreciatively before returning his attention to the smaller Militants covering Goliath's ass. Upon seeing Richard trying to hit the larger of the trio, he jumped up and attempted to suppress the smaller Militants with bursts of fire, alternating targets between bursts. "Suppressing enemy support elements!" He yelled over the chaos.

By the time vaikon had finished with explaining his plan, Quentin was already on the other side of the train, with full knowledge of his own limitations when it came to molding the explosives. Sure he could mold the stuff like it was wet sand, but he could only do so much at one time.

Instead, Quentin took a look at the goliath, with the words 'supressing enemy support elements' still ringing in his ears. The iron giant's back was turned, and no one freindly was watching its back presumabely. Doing something akin to a thruster-dash, except with no regard for g-forces thanks to the mindy and no actual thrusters, quentin unleashed his blades at full acceleration, and did something like a hovering powerslide to avoid the missiles aimed at the giant's back, slicing the thing's legs with a pair of white blades of magic fire.

In a fight between infantry, volume of fire was one of the most vital keys to winning, and it didn't seem either side quite had it yet.

Despite their marble dais melting away from the blasting bolts of blue-white plasma, Terrance and Rachael held out against the Upgraded Militants for as long as they could. Chunks of pearly white stone broke away as their rifles peppered their opponent's cover in a bid to suppress, but as mini-missiles arced overhead towards the giant Militant's back, a good burst of fire followed up fast as Richard opened up. Rounds punching into its cover from a different angle, shields crackling from the stray shots that struck its arm and shoulders, the Militant closest to them was forced to duck and vent heat from its plasma repeaters.

Meanwhile, both Mark and Quentin followed Ylfa's lead and leaped right over the train. Thrusters firing, the trio moved fast and hard, right into the second Militant further back. Landing just a few steps away from it, the marines sprang into action just as it did the very same. Rushing them so they couldn't bring their larger weapons to bear, it swung and struck Mark in the chest plate, the attack nullified by his armor but knocking him over nonetheless. As Ylfa quickly tracked it with her cannons, a mechanical hand quickly grabbed a piece of stone and cast it at her, the piece shattering against her helmet with a shower of white fragments and dust. And just as the both of them were quickly brushed by rifle fire, their drained shields crackling as they were pushed to the edge of nothing.

"Shi - crossfire!" Ylfa yelled, just as a metal fist came right at her face with a hard, metallic clank.

Quentin however, didn't even give that Militant a second look; the moment he landed, his eyes were already on the giant. As Richard's bombardment of mini-missiles burst over it's back, a gout of flame erupted before steadily burning like a torch, Aether blades came to life. Despite this, it turned to its left to face Max and Vaikon, the towering war machine taking its first steps towards the marines it was suppressing, walking right through train car after train car as though it were all just paper. Moving fast, Quentin slashed out at the back of its left leg as he flew by. Hyperalloy plate fissiled out of existence as what was left behind became a glowing mess. The machine briefly stumbled, but it wasn't enough! The attacking blades were moving too fast, and on top of the atmosphere dispersing it too much!

But it fell to its knees.

The squad divided, the fight moving too fast, Vaikon never got the explosives he wanted. But the white lance he fired right at its armored head vaporized armor, sending static across its sensors and briefly disrupting its electronics. The machine paused and toppled forward into the train cars, the ground shaking as it caught itself with both arms. A double-explosion erupted as the feminine-armor clad marine vanished and reappeared right at its left side, right were its back would have been had it not turned. White light shining across the scene, he attacked, burning into one of its cannon arms. Swinging the damaged limb at the marine, he leaped back.

Just as the first militant that Terrance and Rachael were trying to suppress aimed its arm at them, the three of them in clear sight of each other.

Rachael froze for only a split second seeing the militant aim its arm at her, within that split second her mind rendered up an idea that she needed to dodge. So she quickly shoved off her leg and back behind cover to avoid anything that may come towards them. She quickly reloaded her gun and awaited the oncoming onslaught, hoping that Terrance was smart enough to move, and not try to bodyslam the damn thing like he did before.

Seeing his missiles hit, Richard was rather satisfied, though the beast was not slain it looked like it was on it's last legs, the others would handle it on their own. He then focused his attention on the two smaller but still very large militants, particularly the one that had given it's attention to Terrance and Rachel, and began firing. His rifle was switched to burst instead of auto to keep the recoil under control and place as many shots as he could on the junker as he could, aiming for the center of mass, expecting power to be there.

Max saw the militant stumble and saw his opening. Firing his Guass cannon at the militant to suppress it, he switched to his plasma projectors and charged the militant with this thrusters. Unlike the previous attack which was a slashing attack, this would be a very heavy hacking and stabbing attack. He had every intention of turning the tin can into scrap metal by slicing it to pieces and making it combat ineffective. Hopefully V would see him coming and they could take down the militant together.

Appearing next to the wounded Militant, Vaikon jumped back as it swung it's damaged limb at him. The Marine then leapt forward, colliding with the militant. Vaikon then moved back, drawing his LASR and opening fire at nearly point-blank range, sending tungsten rounds into the chest of the Militant.

As his rifle ran out, he swung it around and used it as a ball-bat, with the back end of the rifle colliding with the Militants head. This didn't do as much harm as he had hoped, but it did enough. Seeing Max, Vaikon then jumped back, making room for Max's impending attack. He collided with one of the train cars, and ejected the magazine from his rifle before putting a new one in. He was down to only 3 Mags, but then again that was 300 rounds so maybe not as dire as one would typically think.

Quentin reacted fast at the sight of the militant. Right away he raised the LASR and opened fire, as he messed with the flight controls, flying to the nearest unoccupied marble dias in a manner that looked more like a puppet was having its strings yanked in some suprising new direction.

"Sonuva bitch," Mark muttered as he got back on his feet. That had definitely been more than he had expected from the militant. For once he decided that rushing head on at the thing trying to kill him wasn't the best plan and instead opted to keep as much distance as he could and fire his LASR. While he would of much preferred to use the few rockets he had left, Ylfa was too close and there was a good chance they would be much more useful later.

Terrence's breath caught in his throat as he noted that the Militant had placed it's undivided attention on himself and Rachael. Well, he wasn't quite as dumb as one might think, as he dived in the opposite direction Rachael had gone, using his thrusters to put some extra speed into his movement so he wouldn't end up on his side in the open. Upon landing in some cover, he'd right himself into a crouched position and lean out from the side of his shelter, firing on the Militant that Richard was also now engaging while minimizing the amount of exposed body parts he was exhibiting while doing it.

As Vaikon leaped away from the swinging arm of the Giant Militant, Max rushed in as white-blue plasma blades came to life, gauss cannon booming through the smoke choked air. The heavy rounds pounded into the thick, heavy plating of the towering war machine as it knelt, the weakened plates starting to badly dent and crumple. Seeing him closing in fast, the Militant raised its remaining arm cannon and fired. Obstructed by the remains of the train cars it tried to plow through, the plasma round exploded, sending fire and fragments washing over both of them. Bursting out of the flames, Max charged, undaunted, and rapidly began hacking and slashing at the machine. Holding up its bad arm cannon to block, the limb was absolutely ruined by the marine's attack. The pieces falling to the floor, the Giant Militant aimed its cannon at its own feet and Max's, firing.

The wave of plasma washed over them both, draining Max's shields and knocking the ammo pack encumbered marine to the floor.

It was right then that Vaikon leaped away from the Giant and turned, charging the Upgraded Militant firing on Terrance and Rachael, his Mindy flying forward to body check his opponent. With both exposed to one another, the war machine quickly turned one of its wrist guns and opened fire; a stream of plasma bolts collided with the marine's light Mindy armor, his energy shields crackling. His suit quickly grew hot as energy arced and flashed right before bursting in the collision. Durandium plate melting, the attack knocked the Upgraded Militant back, sending it stumbling out of cover. Though Terrance quickly darted to the closest train car that Max occupied just moments ago, Rachael slammed another magazine into the top of her rifle, just in time to see Vaikon's assault. Drawing a bead on the exposed war machine, her rounds hit it with absolute certainty, a shower of sparks flying about as the metal-on-metal attack bit into its armor. Richard followed up with quick, accurate bursts of fire of his own before Terrance did the very same; exposed and caught in the crossfire, the war machine let out a burst of plasma and hydrogen flames as its reactor and fuel tank were ruptured.

As the half ton of ruined machinery fell to the ground with a crash, the remaining Upgraded Militant drew a bead on Ylfa as it stood.

"Damned pack!" Slowed down by the extra ammo she carried, she couldn't evade fast enough. Stunned by the cast stone and with her vision obscured, the marine blindly dove to the right as it began hosing her down with rapid fire plasma bolts with one arm, and Mark with the other. Shields crackling, she couldn't jump or dodge very far thanks to the extra weight, but the other marine could. Moving fast, he dodged the opening salvo and fired back. The rifle in his hands chattering away, the tracer rounds curved away mid-air as the Militant's shields flickered and suddenly flashed as they failed, a rapid succession of blows pounding it from behind. On the floor and laying on her side, Ylfa had wiped the dust off her helmet and hammered into it, knocking it off balance and onto the floor in front of Mark.

The tide was finally turning, and fast!

After the first Militant went down, Richard wasted no time in acquiring a new target. His attention turned to the wash of plasma from the giant Militant, seeing an opportunity with it's back turned. From the looks of things it's shields were down, and he wanted it to stay that way so he began firing burst after burst at the thing, still keeping his aim tight. Before he let it pick him out of the crowd he sent two mini-missiles it's way to keep it distracted.

Mark fired upon the fallen militant with a few shells from his cannon and a healthy dose of LASR rounds intent on taking advantage of his present situation before he had to start relocating. Taking a quick glance around between bursts he noticed that the battle seemed to be going their way for the first time in what felt like forever.

Quentin took aim and shunted a SLAG round into the nearest militant, and followed up with a burst of LASR fire, intent on making use of the incindiary round's ability to weaken the armor. "Looks like we've got the edge, short of something catastrophic happening we've got this."

"Eat shit and die!" Terrence yelled at the falling ruin of the Militant. Hearing further combat on the other side of the train, he switched to the window behind him, placing the LASR against the rim to steady his aim. Seeing the hail of gunfire coming down on the giant Militant, he joined in and fired bursts of three into the enemy machine's back, the grip on his rifle tightening as he sensed imminent victory.
