[OOC] Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Cy83r K0rp53

Inactive Member
Roight, let's do this.

Why? Because I can.

I'm gonna be running an SP-type game under the Rogue Trader rules, action and danger in the pursuit of wealth and glory across the stars of the Calixis Sector and the Koronus Expanse in the grimdark future of mankind.

I know several people are interested already, sorry for stringing you along so far, but I'm definitely going to do my best on this project.

I'm looking for a party of about 2~5 players, one character each; PM your character muddlings or post them here, this thread will also serve as the OOC area.

Ship Data & Group Information

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

I'm in for sure. Need to go find the RT books, but I got Dh in 20 minutes, so I bet I can find these too.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

In, hands down.

Was thinking of being a Void Master or an Arch Militant-- maybe a Navigator.

If possible, though, I'd like the Rogue Trader. But that's if no one else wants that role.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Woo, two people... alright, we've an undecided and a... Void Master/Arch Militant/Navigator/Rogue Trader.

...hmm... Sentient, you'll have to pick one :3

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

I pick Rogue Trader! >=O

If anyone picks Rogue Trader, then I'll just go with Archmilitant. Sound good?

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Sweet, Rogue trader it is because Aendri made an Arch Militant... oddly enough...

Sentient, pm me your character and some background, so I can twine some hooks into my plot and give Aendri a chance to contribute as well... you can post all the not-secret parts up here if you'd like to make things easier on the rest of us.

As soon as all that is straightened out, we can roll up starting wealth, build your dynasty's ship(s), and get your gear in order (look around in the acquisitions section about your free piece of gear).

Try and get familiar with rules for using skills and combat too.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Roight, procrastination, sorry.

Here's SR's undiluted history for you, Aendri:

History: Zidarus was born three years after the birth of his brother Julian into the noble Lial family, which thrived in commerce atop of one of the most well-known Hiveworlds in the Imperium. Since birth, both brothers were often very competitive: games, garments, toys, strength, mettle... they used to compete over everything they had, and which had the best thing of the two. Of course, the older brother usually won, which made Zidarus all the more jealous, recentful and dramatic. Their parents had all that the wealth of the Imperium could offer, and both children became spoiled to no end into their adolescence. They had women, they had friends, they treated water and food as they would air.

When Hector Lial, their father, died from old age, his legacy was left in their arms. Despite their fights over who the rightful inheritor should be, the old man's will clearly stated that they would share the wealth half and half. Reluctantly, both brothers accepted half of the inheritance, and began to lead the Corporation their father had left to them in unison. Their agreement did not mean they could not lead the corporation from separate banners. With the division, half of the corporation was lead by Zidarus and the other half by Julian, and the resulting gains and profits from both sides would be compared against each other.

However, because Zidarus was so eager on finally defeating his brother, Zidarus began to make trades with underhivers, gangs from different worlds, space pirates and even some xeno species. With the additional underground profit Zidarus was making, he boosted the performance of his trader fleets, and even went as far as to hire pirates to loot his brother's fleets. Julian caught up to Zidarus' dealings, and began pulling his own strings in the underground world. But he was too late; all of the underground world in most of the sector already had ties with Zidarus at prime rates that, because of his lack of advance in profit, Julian was unable to pay.

Julian then tipped off local Adeptus Arbites of Zidarus' possible schemes with the black market. Little did Julian know that Zidarus had already thought of this possibility, and had been able to frame Julian for some crimes he had already committed. Zidarus sent a messenger to inform Julian of this. With the evidence Zidarus had, it was much too hard for Julian to escape innocent. And so, blackmailed, defeated and humiliated, Julian called off the Arbites, and merely continued to make lesser profits than his brother Zidarus in utter frustration.

In little time, Zidarus had a monopoly over the trade of materials and the private sector clientele. His renown became great. So great, in fact... that it took little time for word to spread through the Imperium of Lial Corp's success thanks to Hector's youngest son. With that much dedication to trade, Zidarus was a fine candidate for the Warrant of Trade.

Thus he became a Rogue Trader, and the Corporation was handed to his older brother Julian. In rage, Zidarus took the position with dread of defeat... It took little time for Zidarus to look at his position from a different point of view, however. Once he realized he was allowed to do things that Julian could only dream of doing, he rejoiced, and gladly took up the position.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

If you want a history, I can throw one together. It's not too detailed though. Basically, think a nobly born soldier, who specializes in shadow ops. Got a vendetta with a RT clan because I assassinated someone high up in the family. I spent my childhood studying, and went directly into the military, continuing family tradition and all of that. I got Ship-lorn in between planets a good ways into my tour of duty, and was released from duty after that. From there, I found jobs serving as either a bodyguard or assassin.

I can add detail if you need more for the sake of the campaign, but I'd like to keep as much of the story private as possible. Ship-Lorn part especially.

There's some things I want to change, but I made the character strictly following the book rules. If you're permitting differences from the standards, let me know.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Hmm, considering Sentient Race failed to use the origin path correctly, I'll give you leeway.

The part of your character's history I'm most interested in is how he or she ended up serving under mister Lial's warrant (need a name and physical details, use the random generator tablesi n the book if you can't think of anything).

Starting Experience: character generation accounts for 4500xp, you each have an additional 500xp to spend on Rank 1 upgrades.

Starting Purchase [p.272]: you may make a single 'free' acquisition of a single item (Negligible scale +30), with a total acquisition modifier of +0 or greater (see table 9-35: Acquisition Modifiers) without making an acquisition test (i.e. you automatically suceed). In the case of weapons a character may only purchase one for they have the appropriate weapon Training talent. The GM has finally say in regards to the appropriateness of the item purchased.

All other purchases follow the normal acquisition rules, but effectively take no time while purchased during character creation. Upon review, this is not correct, you get one purchase.

~Lial Dynasty~
The Lial Dynasty is a fresh, new player on the galactic stage, garnering attention both fair and foul.
Base Profit Factor: 40
Ship Points: 50 (Unused ship points are added to base profit factor)

=Oddities & Complications=
Machine Spirit Oddities: Wrothful - the ship's spirit constantly smoulders with anger. In battle, it explodes into a berserker fury, straining and exhausting its systems. During combat the vessel gains +1 Speed nad +7 Maneuverability; out of combat, it suffers -1 Speed and -5 to Maneuverability and Detection.
Martial Hubris - the ship has a glorious legacy of warfare and triumphant combats. It is always eager to fight, and unwilling to back down. The ship gains +5 to all ballistic skill tests to fire its weapons, but suffers -15 to any Pilot [Space Craft] tests made to escape combat.
Past History: Turbulent Past - the ship has been retired from a career of clearing out infestations of illegal shipping in the Calixis sector in the service of the Imperial Navy. The ship's crew suffers -20 to Social Skill Test when interacting with unregistered vessels and smugglers, but gains +20 to such test when interacting with members of the Imperial Navy.
Reliquary of Mars - the vessel is very old and happens to be fitted with ancient archaeo-tech systems from mankind's forgotten past. Players must select one (and only one) Achaeotech Component of their choice. Tech-Use tests made to repair the ship suffer a -20 penalty due to the highly complex nature of the machinery. Additionally, the tech priests of Mars regard the vessel as holy, or at least having sacred components. Some may petition to visit the vessel, others may want it for themselves.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Hey! I CHOSE not to use it properly after you told me it was okay, I didn't fail to use it properly! D: It's just there are certain conditions I think describe my character's personality better than others. I don't like the Origin Path system very much, specially it's used the way the book says. Wouldn't play Rogue Trader if I had to use it as is, sorry. =/

By the way... Zidarus is going to absolutely HATE that ship! Do we get to name the ship? Because I think I would name it something horrible out of spite.

Anyways, with my acquisition bonus, could I just raise the level of my Armoured Bodyglove by a notch? I was thinking I could use an Armoured Bodyglove like the Hardened Body Gloves in the Dark Heresy Inquisitor's Handbook (pg 125), where they have a hood and give protections against auspexes and IR vision and stuff, as so to make the suit made for stealth while keeping it readily strong. That cool with you? Or would I be entitled to that and more?

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

I must have miscommunicated *grumbles* what I meant by take a free slot (or whatever the exact words were), was you could ignore the 'path' system once, you managed to ignore it three or four times. Frankly, I like the character as is and it was your first time, so no harm done, just pointing out that you... took some initiative with my allowance... is all...

ANYWAYS... yes, I found the random quirks amusing enough that I decided to be nice and roll two for each category just for kicks and got the most... well.. you said it yourself Zidarius is going to HATE the ship. Think of it as a practical joke (and perhaps a warning) by your backers (and my way of making your game a stay in hell, hopefully a rewarding one).

And, yes, you guys get to name AND build your ship! A ship with proclivities towards combat and a record of hunting smugglers like your Rogue Trader with the added bonus that the Mechanicus (more than half of which are strongly anti-xenotech) will be constantly wanting to take a tour of your vessel XD

And on the bodyglove, if you want it now, you'll have to use your starting purchase to get it. As far as what items are allowed, the DH corebook and Inquisitor's Handbook have availability ratings so you can use acquisition rules to purchase them, so everything between the RT corebook, DH core, and IHB is allowed (and subject to my approval).

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

I actually tried to stay fairly close to the path. I was using a generator online though, and I was assuming that it was accurate to the book in what was path cleared.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Yes, you were right on the money, Aendri, one deviation is what I planned on you guys taking, I've had a party use that generator before it's pretty reliable... anyways.

We need to set up a small JP so the ship can get built to your satisfaction, or dissatisfaction in Sentient's case :3

Please post your schedules, thank you.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Are ships assigned to Rogue Traders impossible to trade or sell in return of something better? Considering it's a Reliquary of Mars, it should sell for a pretty penny if I sell it to a Forge World... though something tells me you won't allow me to do that. :c

Also, I'll update my profile to add the IR/Auspex stealth, hoodied armored bodyglove. Gonna buy it with the starter purchase.

Also, does the Acquisition bonus you talked about = the starter purchase? I'm still not 100% clear on what the whole Acquisition thing you were talking about is.

I'm free whenever for that JP, by the way.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Okay, let's try for... how's Tuesday sound? (I'm open anywhere from...frick Memorial Day week..)

Gaaaar... uh, I should definately be on around 5pm~8pm est/GMT-5 on Tuesday.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

Tomorrow at 5 EST time it is! :D Hope to see you guys in IRC before that... otherwise I'll check the forum for a PiratePad link? -shrugs-

Whichever comes first.

Re: Rogue Trader - Into the Maw (OOC & Recruiting)

I was just going to make a room on sorcery.net and take notes before the details get lost in idle chatter that chats invariably devolve into...
