OOC Thread for Horizon's Key

Finally getting this moving : ) Thanks for all of your patience.

Okay, now for business: We're already hitting a couple of bumps. I wanted to get Kassi's questions answered before Lance showed up. Nemo, please keep a closer eye on what's going on because actions should be posted in the order that they were performed. It sounds like Lance is there already and you also didn't know that Sabot would have been out there by the time Lance arrived, possibly sparking a conversation. Also, Kassi had arrived before Lance did, and I needed to answer her questions before he got there. Also, you hadn't received Gem's reply, which might have changed his actions in that post that you put up.

If someone places a time frame on what your character does (i.e., saying they did something that requires a response from someone else before your character can act), or if you post something that needs a reaction, please don't post again until the proper response is made to at least one of those actions.

Also, please put OOC comments in this thread. Otherwise I will remove them if I see them.

As a side note, I am sometimes rather blunt when I give corrections. I can't really figure out how to prevent that bluntness from coming across as annoyance or anger, so, unless I say I am angry, assume I'm trying to be polite when I address something that needs fixed.

...

...Welcome to the Horizon's Key!

And lance, no big deal with the missing the first post. You gave Kass a great place to go from. :D

But from now on, pay attention fool! -smacks lance over the head-

In my latest post, I noted when Lancer actually arrived, so now he'll just see a guy and Kassi talking at the airlock to the Key, with a lot of medium-sized (but very heavy) cargo containers around, most of them on a flatbed truck.

Yes, I apoligize, I was in a hurry and probably should have just waited to post till later when I wasn't as stressed and should have had more time.

Ah, well, I'll post now.

Oh, and for the referance/service record... I'm just going to go off on a limb and say... that we're going to try to BS our way through as he was only recently out of training and assigned?

Pretty much : )

Write something about him listing a person or two who would be able to say "Yes, he was in the military" if Gem checked up. Nothing detailed.

Lance nodded and started to briskly jog to his now former barracks to retrieve his personal possesions.

A short while later he arrived and quickly began to methodically place his personal items into a compact, yet spacious, travel pack. After having cleared his personal space of his few personal, non-generic items, Lance about faced and took a more liesurely pace back to the docking station.

After finally arriving with a good bit of time to spare, but he wasn't entirely sure how much, he sat his pack down and while keeping a careful eye on it pulled his datapad out and sent Gem a message.

[...edited the last part out so everyone doesn't have to read the entire thing since it isn't necessary to have it in this thread. You wrote it, you know what it said : )]
Nemo, you're causing timeline bubbles again. I don't know if this is caused by stress, not giving yourself enough time to write a post, or if you really aren't used to the relation of time and post order...so it's time for your next tip!

If your character leaves a scene and the remaining characters are still interacting, bring your character back only when enough time has passed. Otherwise, wait for a scene change, which usually means a chunk of time has passed.

As I mentioned earlier, Post Order = Timeline. This means that the order that posts appear is the order that the character's actions are made. I know it gets a little confusing since I tend to write character actions back into the 'past' a little ways, but I always end a post in the 'present'. However, it is /never/ a good idea to write a post into the 'future' of a scene. This can cause reader confusion.

Think of it as an RPed fight: You wouldn't make a long series of strikes and moves all in one post because you need to give your opponent time to react to those strikes and moves, as well as make his own for you to respond to.

Just keep these questions in mind when you're making a post:
-- "How long would this take for him to do?"
-- "How long would it take the other characters to do what they are doing?" And, finally,
-- "Is that amount of time equal?" If the time it takes your character to do his thing is less than the time taken by the other characters, then you need to cut off your post and wait until those times are equal.

Right now, it appears that Lance left and returned within the time that it took for Kassi to greet Gem. If Gem replies to Kassi now, it will read as if they had stood frozen in time while Lance got his things and returned. It would seem that he just has to walk back up to Gem and say "Here I am" instead of shooting her a message, since she's standing at the hatch where he left her. He's definitely not the Flash, so this can't be the case.

^--- This section is all you needed. Then, once Kassi and Gem are finished and the scene changes, that would have been your cue to post what you wrote in the second half with his return and messaging Gem.

I'll try to account for this like I did last time (by mentioning when he returns in my later post), but this is something you need to work on.

As a side note, in a JP this wouldn't be very difficult to figure out because everything is being written more or less in realtime and the relation between time and post order is easier to determine. While it is a little harder to follow the flow of time in SPs, if you're attentive enough this 'rule' of time in roleplay will become easier as you work on it.

Going back to the other two causes of the slipups you mentioned, if you don't have enough time to think about your posts while you're writing them, then don't feel rushed. Wait until you do have time. This is meant to be an easy-going plot, and, with so few of us on board, the plot's not going to go anywhere extremely fast in a few hours or a day (I'm alright with just one player per day making a new post). And, if I think that your character might do something at a certain time, I'll hold off until you're able to put something up. We're not in a race, and, frankly, there are slower plots out there. A little slowdown is a fair trade-off for a clean post, in my humble opinion ^_^ Otherwise, I'll do my best to clarify event orders whenever these slips happen.

Lance was banned for being under 16.

Um... MissingNo, Kassi never hacked the ship. She just told Gem that she had some talent in that area... lol. Also, could you give a lead in to the training program, I would have no idea where you are going with it. That is, if you actually want me to explain what's going on. If not then thats fine.

She was unsettled further by the Freespacer's admission to having hacked information about her ship.
I doubt those specs and repair/operation manuals are public domain or held on networks, but are given to owners of that ship. So Gem is guessing that Kassi hacked the station or NovaCorp, or dug somewhere else. The ship was not offered as a suspected option.

As for the training program, did you want to go through it? I was considering skipping ahead, to keep things moving.

Sorry, if you don't mind waiting a little bit longer I have a character I would like to play as well. Nicholai Vandherson If you have any comments feel free to make them. Of course, if you want to go ahead without me that is fine.
