Kunio looked at the groundskeeper, smiled, but shook his head. "It is in a few good pieces, splintered to the core. Even if we did get it back together, it wouldn't take many blows. I thank you for the offer." He nodded towards the groundskeeper and watched Sakaki try to pet the cat. He followed the conversation the same as he did before, looking from person to person.

Tavigo assumed that Kunio and misunderstood him, so he spoke up. "You no understand. I mean I have spares in shed, good condition. I give you, no charge."

Kunio raised his eyebrows in sudden comprehension. "Oh, spare training swords. Yeah, I'll go down there now if these two would like to tag along." He looked at his new friends and wondered if they'd even care to come with him to a groundskeeper's shed. He felt lights in thought, trying to decipher if he said was what was in his mind.

Zoia remained silent as the Principal and the Vice Principal spoke to her; one impressed, the other trying to explain a concept to her that she could do without wearing the stupid outfits. When they finally took their leave, she got up, packing her datapad up and walking back towards her dorm. She just wanted to go to her room, and sit in seclusion until class started. Given her appointment with the school tailors, she felt she would be pulled from that seclusion rather quickly. Little did she know, it would be cut short much faster.

The Aliens eyes locked onto the girl in her room. Her jaws worked for a moment, looking around to see that ore stuff was here, and not vice versa. After a moment, she finally shut her muzzle as blinked. "So... I never thought they would deliver food this fresh..." She grumbled, closing the door. "What are you doing here?"

Tall for a girl, and younger than the other students, this Nepleslian was not a usual sight in Tsubomi. She had dusky skin, and long, straight hair that, while well-groomed, was dyed with too much purple and not enough red to avoid clashing horribly with the school uniform. For that matter, the rest of her didn't go that well with the uniform, either, she was not someone born to wear skirts and a dress. The way the outfit showed off her muscles was not very flattering. She was busy setting down duffel bag after duffel bag, having slung at least three of them, and only looked up when the door closed. "H-huh? I'm not delivering."

Without asking twice, it was apparent she'd just moved in with her bags full of clothing, and... fruit. She pulled a pineapple out of an open bag, and proffered it. "Are you hungry?"

Zoia blinked, then let her muzzle part a little to show the obviously carnivorous teeth. "In the context of my joke... You were the food," she said a little flatly, doing a quick look around at the room again. She checked the desk, the shelf, and everything else. Without the girls stuff, the room seemed almost sterile, with obvious organizational compulses. The only thing that seemed out of place, was the skull sitting on a wall shelf, it's sockets staring ominously with a near omnipresence to them. The teeth glinting with a vicious animalism.

"Good... You haven't touched anything by the look of it. So it would seem the school actually did give me a roommate... Great" She mumbled, taking a moment to compose herself. "That side of the room is for your stuff. I didn't need it anyway, so it doesn't bother me much. If you plan on using the desk often, you might be disappointed. I'm more here for academics than I am for fighting anyhow" She explained. "Do you have any questions?"

Sarena watched Zoia, pensively, for a moment, before stowing her pineapple and unslinging the rest of her bags in a pile. "I don't think I taste very good... and I don't think moving into the room first puts you in charge." She stood up as she said this, and chewed her lip, while giving the room a second look.

Zoia popped her eyebrows, sighing. "I neither taste, nor does that opinion matter to me. You have your half of the room, I have my half of the room. Unless you really need to have this side of the room. Then of course you can take the time to move all my stuff to that side of the room, exactly how I want it done. May not make me in charge, but I got first dibs on side, and have already unpacked" She explained, crossing her arms. "So to reiterate... Don't touch my stuff, and everything will be fine" She finished.

"Er... this side is fine. Errr... don't touch my stuff either, and stay on your side," came Sarena's awkward, red-cheeked, and mostly forced response. "I still need to unpack." She pulled out a fruit basket, and started arranging it on her nightstand. "I guess you don't eat fruit." Her voice was barely audible.

"No we don't. We do not concern ourselves with the food our food eats. We get it from them, and it hurts our stomachs" She explained. "And I won't touch anything of yours unless it is in my way. It's yours, not mine, I have no need to touch it" She said, sitting down at the desk. "I don't have a martial art represented by this school, so I am majoring in both theoretical and practical physics, Biology, and some electives in martial arts. As I said... Desk use may not be that common" She explained.

"Hm, ants eat fruit... and I eat ants, and I eat things that eat ants, so maybe I concern myself with the food my food's food eats. It's also food." Sarena popped a large, red berry into her mouth, and tapped the back of her head with one finger. "That... sounds like the boring sort of school stuff." She had to admit, "I haven't been to school."

"Oh boy... An idiot" She muttered in her native language, placing a hand on her muzzle in exasperation. "Math... and Science" She said, speaking a little slower than usual. "And I am dabbling in Martial Arts, because I have to. I'm good enough at fighting without having to learn some silly pigeonhole that does nothing to improve what my kind can already do" She stated, turning around. "Why, would you like help with your homework? You are going to have to do school work here... I believe they are required" She explained.

Sarena turned her head this way and that, as if it might help her get a better read on Zoia. It didn't. "I haven't received any assignments." She fumbled with the fruit basket for a moment, before eating another berry.

"Well obviously. We just had opening ceremonies. We haven't even had a class yet. Do you know what classes you are going to be taking?" She asked.

"Yamataigo, Math, Science, Trade as a second language, Computer Studies and Music. I'm doing Marksmanship training, too. I don't know what else, yet." She unpacked some more, revealing hearing and vision protection gear, and other range training accessories.

Zoia stood up and got closer, standing at the center of the room and leaning over to get a closer look. If it had not been for the thick tail of hers, she would have fallen flat on her face. "Guns? At a Martial Arts school? You are shooting at targets, why do you need protective gear?" She asked. "If you get to shoot at others... I might have to see about getting into one of those classes, or taking the extracurricular activity for it" She muttered to herself.

"U... usually targets, I think. It's still dangerous." Sarena was not eager to explain. "I still need to be tested, I don't know if my skills are good in Yamatai." She shuffled around some of the other gear in her bag, looking for somewhere to put it, then gave up and set the bag on top of her dresser, before opening another to sort out her clothing. She had brown low boots, tan half-high boots, and a number of open tunic-like garments to wear over the summer clothes she brought: short shorts, long shorts, tank tops, and blouses, with a few different broad-brimmed hats and desert scarves.

"Uhm... Where are your uniforms?" She asked, standing up straight.

Sarena hefted up her third bag to show Zoia, nearly crashed into the dresser with it, and then placed it on the floor in front to unload her school clothes in the lower drawers. There was one, large, purple and black article she carefully laid down in the bottom-right corner. After unloading these two bags, she was still half-unpacked, and the dresser not full, but she seemed uninterested in continuing the activity, staring at the dresser with its drawers shut.

Zoia blinked, then walked over to her bed and turned on her lamp. The dull red glow reflecting off the polished and bleached skull on her shelf. "I hope you don't mind sleeping with a light on. I need the lamp at night" She started. "And you can wear stupid clothes if you want. I however don't unless I must, hance my uniform. If this bothers you, then well... Find a new roommate" She added.

Sarena gave a large shrug, though it was almost like a sigh, and still aimed at the dresser. "Everyone has to wear stupid clothes at school. It's a rule." According to her mother, at least. She didn't seem inclined to comment on the discomforts of her new dorm arrangement.

"It is a rule to wear the uniform. This is technically our space, and one part of it is mine. Don't worry, I have seen your kinds anatomy. We Vekimen do not show as much as you do when we are naked. Our reproductive organs remain inside our bodies" She said, unbuttoning her shirt. "Think of it as... a snake skin leotard or something" She added.

"Eh... if it's okay, I think it'd be easier just to not think of you as a human." Sarena glanced over, still stooped and looking confused.

"Please... I can smell the smoke. Tell me what is troubling you. You've had this dazed, lost and confused look on your face for the last few minutes" The alien said in a bored tone, pulling off the shirt. "And good thing I'm not a human. I'm sure we can find a common ground" She said, standing up.

"I just moved into... school." She waved her hands inarticulately, as if that could make up for a lack of verbiage. "And you're talking about eating me, reproductive organs, and watching me unpeel."

"These are uncommon things?" She asked. "What is wrong with talking? And the eating bit was a joke... Despite the fact I could very well eat you. I wouldn't though. Against the rules" She explained. "Also, what did you unpeel? I didn't unpeel anything" She asked.

"Well, yeah!" Sarena waves her arms, once, emphatically. It's enough to make a 'woop' noise. "Humans can eat each other, too, but we don't talk about it! Especially not, before... you know, introductions!" Her voice changes pitch and register a few times, in her incredulity. She runs her fingers across her forehead, roughly managing to calm herself. "I mean, getting out of my clothes. You saying it's like you're a doctor doesn't really make it more comfortable..."

Zoia just sat in silence, blinking during the whole rant. When the woman was done, she thought she would change the subject. She reached up ad plucked the skull of the shelf and handed it to the girl. "Isn't it cool? Took me weeks to prepare properly" She said, totally missing the entire point of that conversation.

Sarena's shoulders sagged, and she stumbled to face it, but she didn't contest the change of subject. It had been a long day. Instead, she tried to sound interested. "What is it?"

"My first kill. Once you advace far enough in the VDTF, the safety regulations get a little... Lax. Fights have obvious issues, and this is one of my classmates from the station" She said, turning it to face her. "He was sweet. I felt bad the instructor ordered us to fight, but he said he would be honoured. I think he had a crush on me" She explained, turning it back around. "Keeping the teeth all in their place was difficult, and applying my bacteria in the right doses to keep the skull intact was a pain" She added.

After the first three words, Sarena's involuntary recoiling had launched the skull into the air, and she struggled to catch it. For the remainder, she stared, before whispering, "I thought it was an art project!"

Zoia didn't look very concerned about the skull as it flew through the air. When Sarena had made her comment, Zoia took the skull back and looked at it. "Well... I guess you aren't wrong... But didn't you notice the resemblance?" She asked, holding the skull up beside her head and baring her teeth.

Sarena pouted, and said, "You're just fishing." She was glad not to be holding the skull anymore.

Zoia looked legitimately perplexed at the comment. "Fishing? I am not fishing. I am talking to you. Fishing involve water... And fish. Sometimes a pole depending on how easy you want it to be" She explained, placing the skull back onto the shelf. "I merely asked you if you did not notice that we were both Vekimen"

Sarena blinks, somewhat mollified, though there's a sheen of flop sweat still covering her. "Er, yes. I noticed that when I first came in. I just didn't know it was real."

"Well, it's real. removed it myself. Was hoping to save some of the spinal column, but I had crushed that with my teeth" She explained, finishing her process to being naked. She was right, nothig showed. Just a whole lot of scales. "So... Been to the mall here?" She asked.

Sarena said, nodding, "With my mom." From her tone, it sounded like she was complaining.

"She give you any extra GS? It's this weird currency that can only be used here"

"No, I only have what they gave me... and my stuff." Sarena goes back to her first bag to retreive a knife, and sets about carving up a cantaloupe from her fruit basket, mostly to have something to do with her hands. "What can you buy with it?"

Zoia shrugged "Anything at the mall. Wanna go?" She asked curiously.

Having only just stuck her knife into the cantaloupe, Sarena puts it back into the basket precariously, knife still in place, stood up and tried to dust herself off, but only got her hands tangled in fabric, as she was not wearing shorts. "Er... Okay. I guess there's not much to do in here." She was rather tremulous, but gathered her wallet and ID.

"Well, we could go have a bath. I do enjoy the water quite a bit" She offered as an alternative. "Maybe work on some quantum theory, just for fun. I coul set up a device that will allow us to see how particles change depending on who is looking at them" She added.

"It's too early." She could have added, 'and that doesn't sound fun', but she had complained enough, already. "Let's go to the mall."

Central Courtyard

Having heard Tavigo explain himself and Kunio's response, Sakaki nodded enthusiastically for the four of them to go down to his hut and find new training swords for Kunio.

Clocktower
Rei looked on from the top of the clock tower, legs hanging above the stylized Z. She finished off a pork bao bao bun and immediately brought another to her lips, biting into the soft texture of the bun before hitting the savory center.

ZHS Central Courtyard

The cat settled into Sakaki's arms without complaint, holding still and letting itself be petted several times, much to her delight. Unfortunately, the moment Tavigo turned away to lead them to the supply shed it dug its claws into her arm, using that grip to spring away. It was nothing but a furry blur as it dashed across the courtyard, leaving behind only some stray hairs and a few new wounds.

Tavigo unlocked the shed, revealing its contents to the trio of students. The area closest to the door was stocked with tools of his trade, both simple and advanced devices obviously designed for tending the grounds. Further in, the small building was stocked with shinai training swords, wooden bokken, practice staffs and training pads and helmets. There were also a few rolled up mats and a few other miscellaneous supplies. Everything was noticeably a bit broken in, likely from the prior school year. It was likely the newer equipment was kept in the gym or other training areas, while these were backups.

As Bryn admired the demonstrations on stage, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. A rather haggard-looking cat sprang into view, darting onto the stage and between the legs of the students. There were a few squeals and yelps, as a group suddenly tumbled over in a pile of red and gold skirts. A few moments later, she received another surprise. The strange alien she'd spotted earlier was walking from her dorm towards the main gate, and she could see a lot more of the creature than before. Zoia seem unconcerned about her lack of uniform as she headed for the exit, now trailed by a new girl Bryn wasn't familiar with. She was as tall and muscular as the Vekimen was short and gangly, so they made quite the pair.

It didn't take long for the duo to reach the gate. While the larger mall was a bus ride away, the smaller Tsubomi School Store was within walking distance. Since she had an appointment there tomorrow, the Vekimen might find a little early reconnaissance helpful.

Zoia stood outside the odd school mall, looking at the doors. She stood next to Sarena with an odd look. "So... We are here... What do we do now?" She asked, looking around. "Do we just wander around? Talk to someone? Maybe fight? This is a fighting school after all" She added.

Sarena answered reluctantly. "'Browsing', they call it... I don't think they let us fight at the mall." She pushes through the doors into the lobby, and starts to look at the book displays.

The bookshop was at the front of the store, which was weird to Zoia. Books in general were weird to her. Anything made of natural materials on the station were recycled for food, and everything synthetic was recycled for materials. She understood what a book was though, and that was all that was important.

"You know... I find this incessant need to pigeonhole melee fighting into all these different styles. Like... Who cares which one you know if it's useless in a legitimate fight if the person you are fighting doesn't use the same or a similar fighting style?" She asked, flipping through a basic martial arts book. "Like... The only way this helps is if you can adapt to a new fighting style instantly. Otherwise, I only see them as character building and discipline reinforcement" She said aloud, placing the book back and picking up another.

Sarena hedged, "Lots of good fighters know many styles, so they can use the right one for the fight they're in... but, others don't. I don't think they're a big deal, either, but I only know Nep-Fu, and a few other--"

Zoia went on. "I know how to do what fighting is meant to do. Keep myself safe, and kill those who put me in danger" The alien said flatly. "The idea of creating a name and style to our "Martial Art" is insane, pointless, and really just a knee jerk reaction" She stated quickly, obviously ranting. "Like really. Vekryu? Vekimen Style? I don't understand why we did that. Then we have these other styles that my /entire race/ has made my responsibility to flesh out? That's why I am here. To do something I don't agree with; but to deny is treason against the VDTF" She grumbled, seemingly mocking an authority figure when she mentioned treason.

Sarena hazarded, "I guess it's easier to sell that, than to sell being one of you?" She busily examined a book about ancient royalty.

"You would never be able to fight like us. You would need some pretty heavy augmentation at least," she said, tapping the curved, sickle like talons on the floor. "We are sorta good at killing things in a fight. One of the Station's Zukans was given power armour by Yamatai, and she was able to win a hand to hand fight with some Android or another. There was classified information, but she did account the win. I just wish I could see how the power armour augmented her style. I saw the power armour, breifly. It was actually... Terrifying" She said, replacing the book she was looking at with another.

Sarena nodded. "I'd want one for a real fight. A plasma rifle, too. ...I mean, a battle. I don't have enough money to learn alien fighting styles, even if I had augmentations. Though, I might be an alien, here, I guess..." She paged back and forth. As far back in Yamatai's history as the material she was reading was, there would have been some ambiguity.

"Depends on how you mean, money. My job here is to integrate, but also implant in a way. I, am the best fighter in the appropriate age range to be sent here of my kind. Quite possibly the best alive when it comes to physical combat" She said, looking at Sarena. "We are roommates. If you would like to join me when I train, I would be happy to show you a few things. Will help me flesh out the combat styles I need to do anyway, so maybe it won't be as much of a pain" She added.

Sarena coughed a bit, closed the book, and placed it back on the shelf, before tackling this one. "I could, but... I'm the worst from where I come from. I don't think I can help much."

Zoia rolled her eyes. "What do you think you would be helping with? You would just be learning. Sure... You will probably suck at it, given your body truly isn't built for it, but you could be surprised by what you learn" She said. "No scales of my snout though. You don't have to if you don't want to" She continued, dropping yet another book. "This store is useless..." she muttered finally, obviously getting agitated with it.

"There's food, games... I guess you don't need anything from the girl's section." Sarena shrugs. "Mostly clothes and accessories, here." She pointed out some of the other advertisements in the lobby, which display not much she hasn't mentioned, aside from the training and sports equipment. Not committing to train with the jaws of death seemed like a comfortable choice.

Zoia thought about it, then decided she was hungry. "Do you want to get something to eat?" She asked, pointing in the general direction of the food court. "I can smell food that way, and there seems to be a lot of activity over there" She offered.

Sarena nodded, and started moving in that direction. "Yeah... I like fruit, but I haven't eaten anything else since breakfast..." She wavered and looked a little green as she said this.

Zoia blinked. "You do look a little different. I suppose you should get something in you. Come on" She said, leading the way.

Tavigo stepped out of the doorway to allow the other three to get in. "Grab sword that want. I no mind." Tavigo looked around a bit confused about where the cat went. "Where cat go? He just with us no?"

Tavigo put the tools he had on him from the work he was doing before talking to the group in their respective places, and grabbed an old dull knife in its sheath, that he put on his belt, and a necklace with a Mishu bone on it, which he put around his neck.

William nodded and was about to follow the group, when the cat hissed and scratched Sakaki again. William sighed softly and unwrapped the other cloth from his second sword and began to dab at her new wounds. "You need to be more careful Sakaki-Sama..." He said quietly as he inspected around the new wounds and removed the old bandage.

The bleeding had stopped and the wounds had begun to close. He smiled softly as he wiped away the spare blood and produced a small bottle of water and cleaned the new wounds before placing the impromptu bandage.

"Come on, we're falling behind..." He said softly and began walking to catch up with the group.

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Kunio walked behind the groundskeeper with good stride until he saw the furry dot fly from behind him towards the courtyard. He turned as if to help but once again was too slow. He felt a little bad that he was dragging his followers with him, one of which was beginning to get more blood drawn as the trek went farther. His happy smile remained until he turned back forward behind the groundskeeper, then which fell to a more regular neutral expression of slight guilt. He made sure that none of the group saw it, keeping his emotions locked. Once they reached the shack, he raised his expression again before the groundskeeper spoke.

The swordsman looked among the training swords, looking for one of the right length and dimension. He found one that looked to be correct and began to handle it, swinging it close to him to feel the weight. He gave a smile while he tucked it near his real katana on his waist, "This one will do fine." He tied a small string to keep it attached to his waist, and turned towards his friends. "Let's hope I pull the right one out!" He smiled in his attempt of humor, which sounded weak and covered. His mind began to doubt itself. He made a quick decision and changed the non-existent topic.

"Thank you Mr. Groundskeeper, your gift is very appreciated."

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Tavigo looked at Kunio seeing that the child was conflicted over something. "No trouble little one. If not trouble, what bother you?" Tavigo unsheathed the dull knife and began to clean it. "We have time before friends arrive yes? If not want, I not pry."

Tavigo had a serious look on his face clearly worried about Kunio.

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Kunio raised an eyebrow to the Groundskeeper before giving a halfhearted smile. "It's nothing, just...thoughts floating around. I don't like seeing people bleed because of me dragging them along, but I guess it shows that they like me." He relaxed his left hand between the two katanas at his waist, sitting in the scabbard's right edge and the training katana. His expression lightened, evident that his thoughts were returning to normal. He gave a shot laugh, "Who knew that a groundskeeper would be a good counselor, thank you."

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Tavigo smiled. "It comes with experience. I see many things in my life. Learn lot I did."

Tavigo sheathed the knife as he saw the other two coming. "See me anytime you troubled I help." He then walked over to a couple of plotted plants on one of the windows and grabbed some of the fruits from them. "Hungry? These are fruits from my home I grow some here."

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

William nodded to the groundskeeper and Kunio as he approached. He noted the new training sword that Kunio had picked out and nodded. "A fine training sword, Kunio-San." He said with a slight smile. He then looked to Tavigo and shook his head "It looks delicious, but no thank you." William said with a slight bow.

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Sakaki allowed herself to be wrapped up in more cloth and gave a quiet smile of gratitude before briskly following in Tavigo and Kunio's footsteps. She didn't want to be too imposing in the slightest on anyone, but she had already managed to do so and she resolved to make it up to both boys and the groundskeeper as soon as she could.

At being offered fruit, she rejoiced in the opportunity to accept Tavigo's offer and graciously took the purple fruit from him, then held it in the center of her body while the top half dipped low in front of her as she bowed.

"What is this one called?" she asked before biting past the dark skin and into the lighter, juicy core. The sugars hit the tip of her tongue and slid down the back of it quickly, making her react immediately with an, "Mmmm~"

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Tavigo smiled at seeing that Sakaki like the fruit. "It called volu vitdâmu, or fruit that is purple in your language."

Tavigo held the Mishu bone out. "Want hear how got this? I told I good story teller."

Bryn smiled at the chaos that cat’s antics caused. Ahh, cute and disruptive? What’s not to love? she thought. Looked like it could use a bath though. Unfortunately for her good mood, she saw the lizard like alien going out of the school grounds with a Nep in tow. Weirdos.

“Hmm…” the student heard behind her. “Ten GS to guess what’s on your mind?”

Bryn rolled her eyes and replied, “Definitely not taking that bet, Hashimoto-sensei.” Turning to look at the shorter Neko, she continued, “You know I don’t take losing bets.”

Hashimoto Nenna shook her head, “Then you should make it harder for me to know you’re thoughts, Bryn-chan.”

The student sighed and said, “I’m working on it.”

“Uh-huh. So,” the NH-29 Nekovalkyrja asked, a smile on her lips, “Have you talked to any non-Nekos today?”

The silence from Bryn answered the question, though the exasperated, teenager look certainly helped.

Chuckling, Nenna took her student by the arm, said, "We’ll just have to fix that.” and started walking towards the garden shed and the group standing by it.

“Sensei!” the teenager said through clenched teeth. “Let go. It’s embarrassing.”

Complying, but making sure her student was following along, she said, “Sometimes you have to go beyond your comfort level to get some new experiences. Like Tavigo over there,” she continued, inclining her head at the Qaktorg. “A little full of himself, but a hard worker.”

“Okay,” Bryn replied, looking at the group. At least there’s another Neko here.

Walking up to the group, the older Neko took the lead and smiled at the other adult. “Hi, Tavigo. You telling the new students how you got that old fossil?”

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Tavigo let go of the bone and looked at Hashimoto. "Was about to. I never told you yes? Care to hear as well?" Seeing Bryn behind Hashimoto. "Hello you want join? Come in take seat. Hungry?" Tavigo indicated to picked fruit which he had put in a wooden bowl behind him.

Zenjinkaze Fighting High School

Kunio politely refused, "No thank you, Mr. Tavigo." He quietly observed as the new ones arrived. Not wanting to interrupt the conversation, he followed with his head as usual. He looked over the Neko and the youngling Neko, attempting to decipher their personalities but kept his face happy and non-awkward as he could the few seconds he looked at them.

ZHS Courtyard

Bryn looked at the proffered fruit, fighting to keep her stomach under control. Keep calm, he’s just trying to be nice. “Thank you for offering…Tavigo-san, but I’m good.” Having filled the quota of talking to non-Nekos, she sat down next to Sakaki, keeping the male students on the other side of her.

The teenager gave her classmate a quick smile, then looked back at the groundskeeper. Hashimoto-sensei would kill me if I wasn’t at least polite and listened to the…dang it. What’s his species called?

Rolling her eyes, Nenna put out her hand to the other adult and said, “I’ll take a fruit, Tavigo-kun.” Food in hand, she took her time eating it, her eyes flitting between the other members of the group as the Qaktorg told his story.
