This thread is a collection of player feedback and ideas collected during the gravedig event. I'm making a white-board style list so that the good stuff I noticed doesn't fall through the cracks.
  • Streamline the guide on Creating a Character/remove duplicate/outdated CCGs
  • Improved guide for Creating a Species
  • Update Nekovalkyrja (Type 33) species page to include details on belly buttons, purring
  • Faction economy pages: Expand "What's valuable?" sections.
  • Add Creating a Corporation guide
  • Expand page for mercenaries
  • More/better mining starships
  • Major cleanup needed on Guide to Planets
  • Terraforming info page
  • More memorials for past battles / "Tomb of the unknown soldier" place(s)
  • Star System Template
  • Starting locations for new characters
  • Update list of restricted technologies in Yamatai
  • Explain how penny-eater Nekovalkyrja work
  • Setting overview page for new players
  • Need a much better list of holidays
  • A wiki page for honorifics ( -chan, -san etc ) in Yamatai
  • Starship combat update and batter range guidelines
  • Population numbers/census
  • Course/heading procedures in the SAOY
If I haven't put your suggestion on here yet, feel free to post it in the thread below.

I think someone mentioned having questions about terraforming in SARP. Maybe some information about that could go in the Guide to Planets in case anyone has questions in the future?

Added to the list.

Iromakuanhe terraform and they are called arcologies. I may improve this page as it states right there that it needs it and arcologies are an important facet of life for some Iromakuanhe.

I'm not sure an arcology is considered terraforming. Terraforming traditionally refers to transforming a whole planet into a more Earth-like planet, whereas an arcology is an enclosed habitat. I think an arcology is a more temporary solution, probably something a species would live in for the hundreds/thousands of years terraforming would probably take. Right now we almost have the technology to make an arcology IRL, but terraforming a planet is probably hundreds if not a thousand years away.

Is Terra a known thing?

I move that the process of making a planet inhabitable be called Yamaforming.

Naturally the reverse process should be called Nepliforming.

What about creating user banners that players could earn through contributions of setting elements, like you did for the Necromancy activity, but do it for NTSE stuff. Create a large enough number requirement that a player would need to add significantly to the setting (maybe 20-30 new, approved articles). But also, you could create a number of banners based on different kinds of contributions. Maybe 20 ships designed earns you a "Shipwright" banner, 30 weapons gets a "Weaponsmith" banner, "Armorer" for 20 kinds of personal bodyarmor or shields, "Socialite" for 30 pages related to arts and cultural things, "World Builder" for articles detailing at least 10 planets, "Land Baron" for someone who has created at least 20 different small-scale IC (shops, night clubs, public parks, etc.). I think a lot of people have a desire to contribute to the community, they just need an incentive to give them that little push. Maybe even have different tiers for each banner; 10 shops/bars/clubs gets you "Landowner", 25 gets you "Landlord", 50 gets you "Land Baron".

Thoughts?

I'm not sure it's a good idea to gameify the process of making submissions in order to get some "forum achievement".
Not all submissions are made equal, for one, and it seems like an approach that might encourage quantity over quality.
Secondly, we might be going backyards on this: getting something of your making approved in the setting is already a reward in itself too.

Wes and I differ in opinion on this, but the necromancy event promoted content which was to me a lot of posting for the sake of posting. Even though the event is supposed to be over, people are still necroing threads; which to me ends up making it look like temporarily condoning something vetting undesirable behavior. Promoting submitting for the sake of submitting does not seem much better.

I'd more just like to know what specifically is in demand for submissions. If all the *Ms could work on a page describing what sort of stuff they want to use for their plot/faction/setting, I'd find that kind of direction helpful. Like, for example, someone could say they need mining ships for their faction, or a world for their plot to visit, or something to keep several factions from going to war (or a thing for them to fight over!), that sort of thing.

I think you could definitely create guidelines, to avoid that issue. Maybe there is some discretion on Wes' part as to what constitutes "quality" posts, maybe there is a word number requirement (although I already know your response will be that it now promotes long-winded, crappy articles). In general though, because humans are humans, giving people a reward would definitely encourage people to contribute more.

I feel like what we need concentrate on isn't what we NEED, though. I think the biggest criticism of the content that we currently have is it's either all technology, or all crucial setting information. What I think we should be promoting is the fluff: bars, hotels, musical groups, celebrities, museums, monuments, non-military universities, small businesses, food, sports teams, etc. This is just my opinion, but we need to move away creating stuff only when it's useful, and strive more towards creating a living universe.

A lot of the tech stuff we have isn't necessary, and we're missing a lot of things that are necessary, some of which are on that list... we don't have meeting places for RP to occur in, or cultural items for characters to talk about, which limits the RP. There's no use in creating a page that people just read once and shrug at, I think we should focus on creating content that's going to be frequently referenced, and that does mean it has to fill specific needs.

Regarding tech stuff in particular, I'd like to see more generic (non-brand name) products that are widely available, so that it's easier to equip a character without hunting down specific items from specific factions. The Star Army itself ought to have enough tech that its soldiers don't need to use this stuff, but it can be difficult for other characters to scrounge something together, and that encourages having a lot of conceptually redundant tech articles.

This and this are examples of terrraforming technology that the Iroma are developing.
