Plot Pages

It's been suggested several time that we separate plot pages from ship pages. I'm working on a template for pages in the plot: wiki namespace. Here's what I have so far for the default template:

Code:
====== @!!PAGE@ ======
@!!PAGE@ is a [[guide:roleplaying|roleplaying]] plot created %B %e, %Y by [[user:@USER@]].

  * Link to Plot Thread
  * Link to Plot OOC Thread

**Status:** This plot is currently open for any approved character to join.

==== Plot Overview ====
Details about the plot go here.

==== Rules and Pacing ====

Put the following here in this section:

  * Format (method of actually RPing)
  * Pacing and posting expectations (and what happens if player don't meet them)

==== Characters and Players ====

=== Open Positions ===

==== History ====

Events that happened in your plot go here.
I would really like your suggestions for this.

Doing this will mess up the system I've been using to manage 4th Fleet as a plot and as a setting tool. I've integrated information about the plot and the fleet onto the same pages. Separating the two is a bad idea because it means that information is more spread and more maintenance of wiki pages is required. For example, I would have to update the plot's wiki page after each mission AS WELL AS the 4th Fleet's wiki page with exactly the same information.

This is just making more work for me as a GM and inconveniences my running of the plot.

Sorry, Wes, I'm not in favor of this plan and will not be implementing it.

I am actually for this. I've been doing something similar quite a bit with my plots because my plots often don't revolve around a ship, or include multiple ships, or the plot will continue through multiple ships. I've been wanting some form of standardized plot page separate from my other information pages because I like to try and keep IC information (Ship pages) Separate from OOC Bookkeeping (Plot pages).

I will try to dig through my plot pages and see if I've got any ideas or techniques that have worked well in the past.

We could allow current plots to optionally keep their old pages, but ideally plot pages would cover plots while ship pages would be for ships and fleet pages would be for fleets. Basically migrating the "hub" page from the ship to the plot page and have the ship article be a linked resource.

I'd point out that this doesn't really have a purpose on the whole. Most plot pages only mention the ship in that it's the ship specific to the plot, it's not the page of the ship class or anything. So obviously, plots that aren't tied to a specific ship or group of ships wouldn't want to have their stuff on a ship's page, but plots that are attached make sense done together.

I have already voiced my dissent. I do no see that making a plot page that is separate from the page I'm using now which is my ship that is the plot helps.

The problem of plots not being easily found is a UI, when in the forum its no longer a link at the top easily seen we put it in a drop down. Which is bad UI.

Also if we are going to redo a page, I strongly suggest we change the active plots page and look at what we put there, and what really needs to be there. If we want players to look at this and decide we need to put more new player stuff and remove items they do not care about.

I think that having a plot page is a great place to include important details that would be lacking on a ship page and I'm happy this change was made, as there are also plots that happen outside of sole ships and for them, there needed to be an option for how to wiki-fy their plot. This was a good change!
