Potential Weapons?

This is where I'm going to put any ideas for weapons that hit me. There probably not going to be original, just things I think that would be good.

Has anyone yet introduced Gyrocs as a type of weapon?

If not they are effectively guns that instead of firing bullets fire micro rockets that are propeleed under their own power. This means that they have great range, and can inflict a massive amount of damage, and thats when they are simply missiles with no explosive payloads attached.

One of the other great things about Gyrocs is that a pistol can be one, and thus have much more power than any projectile of it's size (inless your getting into very powerfull and compact railguns). Even a pistol can fire powerfull missiles, and if their explosive, deal huge amounts of damage. But as a last point I just need to say that most misiles fired by a gyroc are not explosive, toxic or anything else than effectively very fast moving and long distance rounds. Their also reasonably low-tech.

If no-one has developed this type of weapon (and no-one can see anything wrong with it) I would like to somehow trademark it for NovaCorp. Can anyone give their opinions on this (either negative or positive). :)

I remember seeing one of these pistols in Field and Stream's Top 5 Worst Guns Ever Made...

Anyway, no one's introduced such a weapon, probably because of the availability of high-powered energy weapons.

So in StarArmy, everyone uses energy weapons, and there no place for a high powered kinetic rocket that can blast through people, launched by a pistol, let alone one that could have devistating accuracy, targeting system and smart missiles? Oh OK then.

You mean NOONE uses projectile weapons? No pistols? No non-energy based ranged weapons?

And can you remember what Field and Streams was bad about it? If their are any major problems I would like to see if I could work out a way to compensate for them. I still think that the Gyroc has a place among high power projectile weapons.

Yes, everyone uses energy weapons. I don't know about the others, but before Wolf joined Star Army he used projectile weapons. There were a few times I put names and stuff but Wes didn't want them because he wanted it to be original. Conventional weapons don't have enough power for dealing with Star Army soldiers or with their enemies.

OK I'm obviously marketing it wrong. Forget the Stararmy using it (although I never said they should), I accept that it probably wouldn't have enough raw firepower to take down any Stararmy troops or their enemies if they where armoured, without having to carry serious exposive (possibly nuclear) payloads, or very advanced gear. However maybe it would be good for less technologicly advanced groups, or with people dealing with less well defeneded groups. For example it would be a devastating weapon against civilians, especialy if it was smart, which would mean it could kill many people (flying through people without slowing down), or could be used to follow someone and kill them (a great weapon for assassins). As I said before it also has the advantage of being very precise if equiped with the right gear.

Hand to hand combat? Would that include using melee weapons such as swords? Well in that case what about the introduction of vibro-weapons, weapons that vibrate extremely fast meaning that they deal a large amount of damage.

Any feedback atacking this idea, accusing me of being an idiot etc. is expected and welcomed. Any positive feedback will be handled cautiosly but is still welcome.

So that this post doesn't get to far off it's original topic, I would still like to hear some more feedback regarding Gyroc's (either explaining a specific reason why they are rubbish, atacking them at a scientific basis, or just becuase you hate the udea), and I might even (although the chances are stacked against me) get positive feedback. 😢

Tyler, if they're useful, why do you expect/want them to change? I never liked energy weapons myself but that's the only thing that works since everything is so overpowered. I could do with some hand to hand myself, but I wouldn't expect any from this setting.

Many Nepleslian civilians still use projectile weapons, since cost is a factor on that planet. Just a suggestion for Wes and Tom to think about.

Homing-bullets sound creepy though.

Someone actualy says something positive about projectile weapons? [Sigh]
And their used in Neplesia you say? I think I've found a potential market.

Yes I agree the idea of a homing micro-missile/bullet is a little creepy, OK more than a little. However it can get worse than that. There's no reason why a gyroc micro-missile just needs to home in on one person. A single gyroc micro-missile could have enough propulision, and fuel, to take down a lot of people, each one targeted by the internal softwear. The resitance of a body is something that doesn't slow it down much. However I have to say that this sort of gyroc-micro missile would likely be very exsepensive, usualy you would use a simple self stablising, straight flying micromissile.

I'm still waitning for someone to tell me:

a, what "Field and stream" is
b, What their top 5 worst guns ever made is
c, Where I can find it
d, why gyrocs where in the top five
e, a reason why gyrocs are in the top five

Does anyone other than Wess know?
Wess, can you tell me?

Go to your local library's periodical (magazine) section and look at the latest issue. It'll say "50 Best Guns Ever Made" somewhere on the cover. It's a hunting/fishing magazine.

Well they aren't useful I retract my statment there. Friendly fire is no longer survivable with energy weapons, and the reason hand to hand combat isn't around here because the enemies would whupyour ass if you tried that. It's no longer practical

Because a lot of fighting is done in close-quarters (inside ships and buildings), martial arts are still quite useful in my opinion. Plus, you might find yourself without a weapon (or ammo) and have to overpower an enemy to get one. That's why SA troops get hand-to-hand and martial arts training.

Here's a benefit of solid-ammo weapons: indirect fire.

If it's an American magasine I'm not going to be able to find it I'm afraid, I do live across the pond from you guys (and across a continent from anyone in Japan).

Can someone give me a answer:

Would anyone on Neplesia (or anywhere else) buy a Gyroc?

Probably. There's a lot of shooting and a lot of people.

Meelee weapons are still around. Some officers still carry swords... and what about the Imperial samurais?

I realize that the weapon would be ceremonial in most cases.

OK leaving the subject of Gyrocs. Has anyone come up with the idea of using Grasers (Gamma ray laser). Masers are of common use, but non of the other asers have been explored, especially xasers or grasers. Is their a reason for this?

Xasers or Grasers should have a much higher power than masers, and have decent armour penetration properties.

While on this topic, could NovaCorp use some form of legistative function to make sure that either only NovaCorp sold ships can have the weapons it develops (which would of course include the ships sold to the Stararmy, if the Stararmy wants them), or that they have to pay some form of royalties?
