You know who else deserves a modicum of respect? Zack. That is, Uso, if anyone doesn't know. I realize that he had a rather harsh and sometimes unintelligent manner of criticism. I myself hated the guy's guts for a little while back at the old board before we argued for the same cause. But he was dedicated and, frankly, one of the reasons I continued to be a member of this community (though I'm not sure if that last bit will help endear him to you any more, so if it doesn't, ignore it).

Even if no one else liked him, that really doesn't give you the prerogative to go around talking shit because he's not here anymore. It's not really becoming to attack someone's character or methods or whathaveyou when he's not around to defend himself, anyway. You might say that you weren't attacking him or anything, you were just making a point, and that may be true, but it's still a cheap shot. He's gone, so just forget about it. I apologize for distracting anyone from the topic at hand, I just felt that I had to say something.

I'm glad we have an understanding, Kotori.

Though I would like this to EVENTUALLY, MAYBE compete with the Mindy after lots of serious experience and testing. I notice you accuse it of having "lorathness" but Lazarus hires engineers from all over Yamataian space so it's sort of a conglemation of different areas with what's available.

I think it has a huge potential for working along side it as a support or utility unit as I said, a wrap-around:
An armor for an armor as it were which may give it better weapons or thicker armor or the capability to transverse huge distances solo.

I'm sorry to hear you've been ill. Get well soon, okay?

If anyone has any ideas for parts or even something they would like to see this thing do, chip in and help out.

I'm considering a template for users who want to make their own varients or parts.

Be careful with the freedom-of-choice-module thing. Don't overcomplicate it if you don't have to beyond a certain point. This is a less-is-more kind of situation, I think.

Wes commented that the Mindy II unsettled him a bit because f the sheer amount of customization it could include on its hardpoints, even despite my attempt to make presets.

I've hit that particular stumbling block. You might not want to trip in the same place. ^_^;

Glad to see that you two have made up. ^^

In any case, I love the customization idea. It also means that it may be in service for a long time, being so modular.

It also means, potentially, that with an upgrade of say an internal frame, the other components do not need to be replaced and because it's not specifically based on a single component like a PC is with it's motherboard, incremental upgrades don't always mean ditching the truss and when they do, you can keep your peripherals.

Wes, I'm ill and up to my neck in university work.

I don't expect to be able to get time to work on it again until Saturday and even then I have a project due on the 10th so I might be working through the weekend.

If it is approved, I'd be interested in developing it through IC and incrementally adding information which isn't already there, about the unit which means each of you get a shot at adding some of your own ideas to the unit.

Also, if it is approved, I should have some solid mechanical artwork done January in the form of 3D renders. I'm not amazing and I'm very inexperienced at modelling humanoids so if any of you can toss me a tutorial, it would be very much apreciated!

Just curious, who voted against it and why?

Maybe I can fix some of the problems.

The neps an, Lor and even the space pirates need something fun they can play with otherwise the Yams go unchallenged.

No challenge, no fun, right?

I vote yes, on the condition that sometime somewhat soon, a template stye summary of the standard mech frame be posted. At least a military configuration. I want to have it easier for Lorath players to browse for what their Winter can and can not do.

Added note: Its Lorath! Not Lor!

Yokai, Domo-san!

*cough*

I'm having a bit of a hard time looking at the computer right now so I've had to crank all the fonts up to BIGGEST under CSS for my browser.

Can we talk about what you want out of this template?

Demonstration configuration.
Note zero markup: It's not finished and it's late here and I've just been through hell (worked all night only on an assignment to learn it wasn't due for another 5 days)

Again, be rough. Rip it down and tell me what you think, peeps.

Oh, before I post: Is there any chance in getting an RTF to forum-post converter or does such a thing exist as an application?

Lazarus TCC-503-B
B-Type Winter Frame "B'Kuttu" (Wolf)

History and Background: Designed as a technology demonstrator, the B'Kuttu was to show those unfamiliar with Lazarus on the power-armor front what Lazarus were capable of, as a pure expression of Lazarus' motives and personal ideals.
It was later decided that a military and a limited public version would also be made available. This particular unit is to strictly demo the military and high-cost high-performance capabilities of the unit which may be attractive to military entities or anyone who desires adaptable power to get them out of a pinch.

Although the weapons and more expensive systems on the live demonstration units are not publicly available under most circumstances, for a high enough price, they can be.

About the TCC-503-B:
The B'Kuttu was tailored from the TCC-3 as an ultra-maneuverable variable weapons platform taking the best of current fighter and power-armor technology and molding them to fit the technological standard displayed by alien technology in tribute of classic dogfighting methodology.

With an extreme thrust/weight ratio, low maintenance costs and impressive adaptability, the B'Kuttu could be configured for a vast range of different tasks or environments with relative ease and low cost.

The B'Kuttu features a revolutionary new handling system which allows it to handle well in open areas (dogfighting) or in low spectrum areas (race tracks, urban roads, freeways) without modification which makes it suitable for not only military but also urban roles.

It should be noted that though the unit is designated as a power-armor, it's acceleration and velocity arc is closer to that of a modern star-fighter and performs equally well in both atmospheres and space.

Crew: 1
Maximum Capacity: 2
Appearance:
Extremely human and smooth in form reminiscent of a Lorath female.
Covered with defining metalloid polished plates and seams overlapping one another in a fashion which closely mimics the human form though with exception.
The shoulders are set further outwards from the body than they would be for a human though capable of contracting to match the body. When joints are flexed to their limit, reflective black smooth muscle like surfaces beneath may be revealed.

Set into the armor at specific points in multiples of 3 in triangle formation are tiny balls which can retract and disappear. Some are as small as ballbearings and in the shoulders, the size of softballs.
The feet of the B'Kuttu are normally hidden from view and retract into the leg to become a nozzle like jet which is able to open and close on a jaw like hinge set at the calves.
Upon the center of the spine, a pair of modules protude akin to a shoulder and upper arm, each with a rail set into it. A large fore-arm is able to slide across the rail. Like the legs, this too appears close to a jet nozzle, making the 5th and 6th limbs.
The final limbs are a thin pair of humanly proportioned mechanical arms mounted into the chest which coil over the shoulders when not in use.

When transformed, the front of the torso opens and rises level with the back and extends forwards to form the fuselage. Hands and arms lock into place and slide beneath to provide the primary weapons. The hips unlock and rise forwards slightly and lock beneath without crushing the pilot within but the knee joints of the unit are covered as the legs contract and cover the joint. The rail arms upon the back flatten out over the back of the unit and act as the main engines alongside the feet.

Lifespan: 16 months without basic maintenance, 20 years without upgrade or replacement of key systems

Mounted systems:

Mount C: (fore-arms)
Description: This area serves as a secure mount for the MAXIM. The MAXIM mounted here is only able to fire at high velocities and lacks the charging capacity of the burst shot.

Mount D: (Hands)
Description: A hand is mounted which contains three fingers and two thumbs with the second in place of the smallest finger. This specialized hand serves as a mount for the MARA-S tactical cannon and gives the unit superior manipulation of objects in hand. The hollow arm also contains additional ammunition for the Maxim cannon which can be belt-fed to the unit when ammunition is depleted. If empty, this area can serve as a small cargo-bay.

Mount D2 (micro-manipulation arm mount)
Description: Mounted here is a pair of armor plates which close over the chest of the unit during normal operation.

Mount E:
Description: Mounted here are a pair of engine units (see systems) and MAXIM cannons.

Weapons systems:

MARA-S tactical canon (x10): Part of Lazarus' ideal were that the primary weapon of any power-armor should be as useful as it's hands for both destruction and manipulation of it's environment. The Mara-S fits the bill perfectly and strictly speaking is the coupling of a precision mass-driver and the prototype MARA neutron cannon.
The weapon is able to act as an effective penetrating weapon against even larger targets depending on the particular charge set of the neutrons in use. The round will also knock a target from it's immediate vector up to 10 degrees, per round.

The Mara wave cannon operates by firing an intense burst of high or low energy free neutrons (depending on the estimated penetration depth of the target) which have been bound about a pocket of positively charged gravitons.
When the round impacts the target body, it creates dislocations in the materials of the target body in the ionization process which makes the materials more brittle or causes swelling and structural damage. The graviton cluster then impacts the surface through this process and the ionized dislocations are physically ripped from their stationary locations and the effect intensified.

Location: Incorporated into the fingertips of the unit. An extra graviton projector is also fitted to each palm.
Primary Purpose: Anti Power-Armor
Secondary Purpose: Melee combat & cutting tasks
Tertiary Purpose: Disruption
Damage: Heavy-Very heavy under sustained fire
Range: 15km pri/sec, 150km tertiary
Rate of Fire: 1 per 0.6 seconds, chain linked from each hand to fire in series
Payload: Effectively unlimited provided the graviton collector and power source are online

Alternative mode: MARA-S tactical canon (x10): Unfortunately, the use of neutrons also means when the weapon is charged into the optimal destructive ranges, radiation is emitted against the target into the surrounding environment making it an extremely poor choice for urban environments since the effectiveness drops dramatically with the charge potential.
As such, the graviton projectors can be used as mass driver to launch or attract objects in the surrounding environment safely.

The graviton continues to travel through the target body and in the event enough pockets are fired simultaneously, the target body is "thrown" off it's immediate vector. This system can be used without the neutrons as a tactical weapon and via careful computer control, gravitons can be fired in controlled gradients of gravitons at different charges to pull or push objects. If the mass is greater than that of the parent unit, it instead is pulled to the target object if the pull-rate is substantial enough.

Location: Incorporated into the fingertips of the unit. An extra graviton projector is also fitted to each palm.
Primary Purpose: Manipulation & Melee
Secondary Purpose: Disruption
Damage: Tactical (dependent on situation)
Range: 150km for a weak "knock", within 30km for full pulling or throwing effects
Rate of Fire: Constant effect.
Payload: Effectively unlimited provided the graviton collector and power source are online

Maxim cannon (x2) The Maxim strictly speaking is a rail-gun and a concept weapon. It works by firing sharpened hollow tubes approximately the size of a pencil at high speed through a chain of accumulatively charged magnetic fields. The round can be heated or frozen and the central mass can be filled with an explosive gas and the ends heated closed into sharp points in the form of a dumb-fire missile. The round is extremely accurate and the longer the coils are charged between shots, the faster the speed of the mass at launch. Frozen rounds can be shattered on launch into sharp pieces in the form of a high velocity shrapnel gun or chaff. Co-incidently, the cut shape into the hollow form of the tube means it rotates and remains accurate should it remain hollow.

Location: Incorporated into the secondary rail arms
Primary Purpose: Armor piercing/sniping
Secondary Purpose: Suppression (kinetic/physical weapon)
Damage: Low to devistating
Range: Effectively unlimited until round burns up or meets an object (600km atmospheric at maximum velocity)
Rate of Fire: 3 (@ 2000 m/s, confirmed escape velocity @1G) to 4,200 (@ 200 m/s) per minute
Payload: 10,000 overall, designed for burst fire. Rounds stored in thin magnetically lubricated drums through the hollow section of the arm.

Systems:

Movable Frame:
Serving as the internal skeleton, pilot enclosure and skin mount, the mobile-frame is composed of the following:

It should be duly noted that the majority of the unit's form consists of a movable frame technology, essentially a series of bars and spherical joints. Each bar is able to extend on average 10 to 50 times it's original length or contract accordingly meaning the overall form of the machine is able to change depending on the situation.
The bars or tubes themselves are constructed of steel/chrome crystals which are convergent and aligned on the nanoscopic level, similarly to diamond making them extremely durable and it is infact the crystals which expand and contract.

These tubes also act as a heat-sink and conduct and dissipate energy extremely well, even in a vacuum. Because of unique gravimetric properties of the gravimetric matrix within the spherical components, the movable frame also exerts useful gravimetric properties and is able to suspend itself within the air under 5G.

The globes act as compressed joints which the bars can rotate upon as a free axis. Each contains a gravity control component (making the entire frame a weak two layer gravimetric control matrix) and a small sensor node making the entire body a two layer sensor array.

Under simulation, the system was so efficient, the external frame was able to dissipate fire from a military grade scalar pulse cannon for up to 140 seconds before damage was incurred though this has not yet been physically tested beyond simulations and skepticism remains.

The MIF consists of several components:
• Protective hive
• Internal skeleton
• Internal mesh
• External mesh

Protective hive
The protective hive is made up of points and bars in a honey comb structure to create a protective enclosure about the pilot and is essentially the cockpit. One size fits all with the movable frame. Within each honey comb, a liquid screen and protective cushioning are suspended in the form of a gel which can contract and shift with the motions of the movable frame to massage the pilot or continue motion without the pilot. It is isolated from the rest of the body and can be ejected in an emergency.

Internal Skeleton
Extremely similar to a human skeleton in form, the internal skeleton carries the same role. Unlike the parts around it, the skeleton consists of a skeletal form not composed of the movable frame technology and instead a solid state frame. This frame has a far higher range of motion than any human and as such, no joint can be held into a lock which would damage it making many suppression techniques useless since the pilot's limbs are not within those of the frame save for the legs.
A protective rib-cage covers the internal hive and a spine behind it.
Key components such as generators and such are mounted into bays and enclosures within the internal skeleton.

Internal mesh
A movable frame which holds the primary components of the frame to the skeleton, similarly to a skin. The internal mesh is able to extend many times it's original size to match the motions of the components beneath. The internal mesh also acts as a gravimetric matrix in conjunction with other parts.

External mesh
The external mesh acts as a frame about the internal components and holds armor and external components to the body which are not mounted the internal skeleton directly. The external mesh is able to expand and contract far more than the internal parts and NAC 441 armor variant coats and falls between the bars which make up the triangular mesh. This means the air-frame during the transformation can be changed on the fly to suit the specific maneuver.

Remaining mounts

Crotch mounting point (x1) It should be noted that the B'Kuttu does not include any externally mounted offensive weapons or guns though the consideration for such devices has been included in the form of a pair of rifle-mounting points situated upon the crotch for use during transformation and upon the left thigh for standard operation, similar to a holster. The mounting point also includes a direct line to the reactor on each and both mounting plugs can be ejected and sealed in the event of a malfunction.

Wing hard-points (x6) Upon each wing, there is one weapon rail set hard into the center of the variable mass and a rail upon the furthest edge. The first weapon rail can support weaponry both from above and below the wing simultaneously and the wing-tip mounted rails hold one rail mount each. The mid-wing mounts are designed especially for long smooth forms which cling to the primary body of the wing whereas the outer mount is designed for a weapons pod. Though missiles can be mounted, a pod is recommended to protect explosive payloads and make the form more aerodynamic and stable during high speed flight.

The template formatted write up is excellent, no more of "tl;dr" (4chan term). I find that this example of the Winter type frame in the Wolf configuration meets my standards for design and function. (Freaking sweet work.)

Doh. Apparently not everyone's digging it...

Problem is, no one is saying why.

If you don't like it, post people! We need improvement suggestions!

If people won't post saying why they don't like it, maybe it should be approved anyway, regardless of the poll.

It's not like Osakan hasn't done his absolute best to be accomodating to suggestions.

Requesting the weapons be approved before the armor. I've never heard of any of them, and they weren't in the original submission.

No knock against you Osaka; I still like the armor. But yeah, these weapons are confusing for guys who are used to "aether shot ALL DESTROY."

Alright, Doshii. Thanks for letting me know.

The Maxim was loosely based on a disapproved submission by Tomoe which I toned down and made into a tactical weapon instead of an "OH SHIT IT TURNS PEOPLE INTO POWDER" weapon.

No knock against you Osaka; I still like the armor. But yeah, these weapons are confusing for guys who are used to "aether shot ALL DESTROY."

Sure thing.

Would I submit configurations of the winter independantly from the concept and in turn, should I convert the concept into a set of design guidelines and rules of thumb for players?

Ummmmm ... *thinks* Get the armor approved with some more basic weapons, I suppose? The armor and its configurations I know I have no problems with, it's the weapons that I hang up on.

You could keep the bigger, more powerful weapons projects more of a "secret," so Yamatai doesn't know about them. They'll just think, "Oh, those crazy Lorath and their mass drivers lol." Or something.

So yeah, maybe just get the basic config approved first. As you add approved weapons systems, you can change the "standard" loadout.
