Inside the Anbruch

Ana walked with Quinn towards the medical bay. She was not too surprised that he was leading her to this particular destination. She was still sore from being trapped by the Engine parts, then escaping wolves, and now getting down from the top of the Anbruch itself. She thought she was holding herself together well enough, but she was never really good at hiding much from those who were observant enough to realize something was amiss. "You're not going to stick me with more needles...are you?"

Quinn gave Ana's hand a gentle squeeze. "No. I might have you take a pill or two depending on what's going on, but I don't see needing to stick you with more needles." He said with a shake of his head, walking her into the little medical bay and waving for her to take a seat on the table. "Care to tell me what's bothering you?" He knew she didn't like being touched and while he figured he'd have to do some touching she was much more likely to give him accurate information so he didn't have to.

Ana climbed up onto the table, wincing when her ribs protested the strain. "It's nothing...just a lot more sore than before. You know...working and moving. It's nothing I can't handle." She grimaces a bit as she rubs gently where it hurts the most, hissing when she feels pain. "Though...perhaps a pill or two wouldn't hurt..."

Quinn considered where she was rubbing and he nodded. "Lay back and tug your shirt up." He said finally, closing the door so Reed didn't wander across them while he was getting a better look at Ana. He peeled his gloves and coat off and circled around to get a better look at her ribs. "Mmm" He gently slid his fingers along her ribs, careful when he drew closer to where she was tender. "Cracked most likely." He mused after a moment. "Having any problems breathing?"

Ana laid back on the table as instructed and lifted her shirt. She was wearing a sports bra, so she didn't worry about how far up the shirt went, but even that was a struggle for her. When he asked if she had problems breathing, she nodded. "Some. Started when Nan and I...came down..."

Quinn was very careful to school his questioning glance. "Down? From where?" He asked, finally starting up a bit of equipment so he could get a better picture of her ribs. "Anything else bothering you?"

"We were up on the Anbruch...had to make repairs up there as well." Her breathing made it harder for her to speak laying down, but she did manage to get it all out. "N-No. At least...not that I am aware of..."

That earned a relieved look from Quinn. "Alright." He helped her sit back up and let her readjust her shirt. "If anything else starts hurting you'll tell me?" He asked, eyeing the scan of her ribs on his little datapad before he tucked it away.

She wasn't aware of Quinn's looks her way, for her eyes were closed. She bit her lip when she sat up and tilted her head, "I will...I promise." Tilting her head a little, she asked, "What's wrong?"

Quinn was startled enough to blink, even though his eyes didn't require it, and turn to face her. He had to give a minute to consider his answer and then he gave a shake of his head. "Lots of things are wrong." He said, hauling his pair of ransacked medical kits up onto the table beside her so he could reorganize them a bit more and repack a few things from the supplies Tanja had on hand.

"I meant with my ribs..." She sat there, not wanting to move unless she had to.

Quinn flushed under his already dark skin, glad he wasn't looking at her. "Oh." He murmured. He gave himself a minute before he turned around and pulled his own shirt up to show her his own ribs. "See these ones right here." He pointed out the lowest two ribs. " They've both got cracks in them, not enough to require surgery but I would advise you stop climbing up on things for a while." He let his shirt side down and moved to sit up on the table behind her, encouraging her to lean back against him. "It'll hurt to breath for a while, but as long as there's no more trauma you should heal in a week or two on your own." He wasn't going to give her some meds to faster heal her ribs if he didn't have to.

Ana leaned back against him, relaxing in a way she normally wouldn't with anyone else. She nodded and sighed softly, "But I can still do the cooking...right?"

Quinn laughed, resisting the urge to reach up and ruffle her hair. "Yes, because I know how to boil water and that's about it. I'd probably end up setting the ship on fire if I tried." He gave her an honest, east smile. "Rest for a moment though and then I'll give you some painkillers and you can show me how to weild a frying pan yeah?"

"Okay." Ana smiled a little and then she sobered some. "Quinn. Do you...do you think I could have chosen to be here...on my own?" Ana was rather curious about this. She knew that, were it not for those three who kidnapped her, she'd never have been here at all. But could she have gotten out of where she was otherwise?

Quinn considered the question for a long moment. "Yes" He answered after a long minute. "I do think you could have made the choice and gotten here on your own." He said.

She snuggled closer to him, rubbing her cheek on his chest as she murmured softly, "But then...you wouldn't have rescued me. And who knows when or how I'd have gotten to be part of this crew..if at all."

"You would have found your way, sooner or later." He mused. "You're a smart, strong woman after all."

Ana smiled and closed her eyes as she murmured, "Nan says I'm his space sister."

Quinn mused over that after a long minute. "A space sister huh?" He chuckled. "He's a good kid, if a little insecure at times." He flexed his fingers, wanting to run them through her hair something fierce. "Having brothers and sisters is a good thing." Quinn added "Mine are always there for me, regardless of where I am or what choices I make."

Ana hummed a bit in thought and nodded, "Yeah. I've always wanted a brother...or a sister." She was slowly slurring her speech as she started to fall asleep, worn out from the events of the day.

Quinn carefully brought both arms up and put his hands on her shoulders. "Come on now, no falling asleep yet. We still have dinner to make remember?" He decided he'd have to hold off on the pain killers if she was already this out of it.

Ana frowned some, "Dinner? But...must sleep. Tired. Please...just...just a little bit?"

Quinn sighed and carefully moved, tenderly scooping Ana up into his arms as he did so. "Come on then." He murmured, popping the door to the med bay open.

Ana cried out a bit when the movement jarred her rib, but she once more relaxed in his arms, her head on his shoulder.

Quinn winced at her cry. "I know, I know. I'm sorry." He murmured, carrying her down to his room and laying her out on the bed. He tucked a few pillows under her head, left for a moment and brought back his coat, draping it over her like a blanket. "Sleep. I'll rope someone into helping with dinner."
