Sport in SARP

With the FIFA Football World Cup in progress(and Holland winning), with the 'Tour de France' and with the World Cup Hockey just behind(with Holland in the finales for both sexes, but only the women won), I'd like to set up some sort of sport competition here on SARPiverse too. I don't know if it will fit in the setting however, so I will leave the set-up of these events to other, more experienced people.

Here's some of what I brought up:
1. Galactic Sport Games, which is like the Olympics
2. Galaxy Cups for the various sports existing in the SARPiverse
3. Cups for the individual factions, A.K.A World Cups

Let me know if there's any enthusiasm. I will look forward to what others will come up with. Like I said, I don't know if it fits in the setting, so I need others to check that and set-up these proposals that are listed above.

That's not much of a help, really. I'm trying to get some more civilian aspects into SARP, so please tell me if this is possible and/or exciting enough to implement.

Part of the problem is that almost all of SARPs factions and races evolved in totally different circumstances, and they all have their own sports and physiologic limitations. Hell, some of them aren't even natural. We have trouble enough organizing the IRC every few years, and that's just a few IC days of people talking. Imagine if they actually had something to fight over. Gives me shivers just thinking about it.

Also, chelti would look at the swimming events in horror. Raiken would just sink.

It would be difficult but not impossible, the main problem is there is such a disparity in physical abilities within the species. So most classic Olympic events would not be feasible. Perhaps something like a Grand Prix or perhaps a Rally where the race takes place in stages on various worlds.

I acutaly have a galactic sporting event I have in the works, it's been put on the back burner though cause I have other things to handle first. Here's the topic where I brought up the idea.

https://stararmy.com/roleplay-forum/index.php?threads/space-lacross.15150/

Another good idea is like Nash said, a space rally. That's acutally something kinda common in space sci-fi settings. They use small shuttles or atmospheric craft to race around planets and such.

Maybe do Pod Races (From Nashoba's idea vehiclar rally) in various types of environments; forests, deserts, mountains, etc... ; on a predetermined course. A hover vehicle race that the there is altitude limit from the ground to make it way more challenging.

I support your Lacrosse idea, Syaoran. I see how you try to equalise all species. That's indeed one of the hardest things to do: giving every species equal change at winning. I see how that would work with your Lacrosse sport. If you need someone to help you get it moving, I am willing to support you.

I also see the change in a galactic rally. It would be with like one-person spaceships and it would involve moving between and on various planets, like you said. If I was to chose a route for the rally, it would have eleven planets(to remember the famous Dutch 'Elfstedentocht') with various trails to exploit those vary planets attributes. Here is a list of my personal planets:

1. Gartaga. Trails include routes over the vast sea and trough the rocky terrain. Final trail leads through the Gartagen capital city of C'tualkishaan.
2. Nesha Prime. Trails include routes trough the forests and the Neshaten capital of Netoshen.
3. Abwehr. The heavy gravity should prove enough challenge for the vessels who participate. The final stage ends in the Abwehran capital of Großartige Festung.
4. Ether. This is perhaps the most perilous planet of all because of the presence of the NMX. Trails include routes through and beneath the icy surface.
5. Azorea. The fact that the planet's a gas giant makes it a hostile planet for most people. In a series of 6 rallies, all of the eighteen 'city-
states' are visited.
6. Maekardan. Trails include routes trough the desert, as wel as underground courses.
7. Kohana. Trails include routes trough the Kohana Cloud and the Kohana underground capital of Kohana City.
8. Null and Void. Trails include routes around the many black holes near the planets and narrow-points around the space stations.
9. New Elysia. Trails include routes trough the mountains and the Elysian capital of Empyrean.
10. Âmuar. Trails include routes trough the forests and mountains. The final stage ends at Tioasme.
11. Lor. Due to the slightly stronger gravity, problems might appear. Trails include routes trough the debris of the collapsed moon. It ends in the Lorath capital.
12. Nepleslia. Trails include routes trough the various cities on the planet, ending at the Nepleslian mega-city capital of Funky City.
13. Yamatai. The final planet of the rally. Trails include routes over all of the planet, including a course in Central Uesureya. The final stage and the rally finale ends on Ketsurui Avenue, in front of the Empress' Palace and the Imperial Palace.

As stated, this is only a set-up of what in my opinion is the best rally course. Noticed that I picked a planet from all different factions? I intended that. In that way, all species are visited at some point. Even those nasty Mishhuvurthyar are visited. That way it's also more balanced, 'cause every species has a equal change at seeing at least one part of the rally and all of the racers. Of course, the planet's order can be changed to you own opinion.

Be free to disagree or approve of this set-up. If you have other idea's, feel free to share them here.

Edit: I had to add in two other planets to include all species.

There are other factions some that have not been contacted. Eg: The Neshatens, the Kohana, the Iromakuanhe. Just saying you should not say All since you haven't got all.

I've got the Neshatens covered, see Nesha Prime. Now, what planets belong to the others? Than I can include them.

Edit: I've included Iruotl and Kohana above.

They probably shouldn't all be included, since I suspect some of those races (Iroma, for example) would just flat out refuse to let other people into their space at this point, and others (Elysians, for example) would feel that competing with the other races would be below them. Plus, having to travel quite literally to the four corners of the galaxy to take part would probably get irritating. Might make more sense to do several series, with each series hosted in a different faction's space. 4-5 races in Yamatai, and the same in Nepleslia, and so on.

Having a race through the capital of Netoshen would be a rather... interesting feat. I say this because the cities traffic networks are split between above and below ground, with residential area's mostly having their car traffic underground (to reduce the likelihood of incidents) and commercial and industrial areas having it above ground. You've also got air traffic as well which makes up almost.... 70% of the industrial traffic as air-transports are utilized for ferrying industrial materials in and around the industrial sectors.

So it would be interesting I must say, but before any foreign sport could take place you'd have to talk with the Neshies leadership and the citizenship would have to approve such a sport (considering they are quite.. adamant.. about protecting their culture and planets from foreign influence)

Aendri, I think you're right. So if we're gonna be one faction-only, I think we can find some useful races to be hosted in every Factions space.

For example, here's a rough idea about a Yamatai space rally. Once again, it's a eleven-planet race(I want it to be in spirit of the 'Elfstedentocht'):
1. Vicky. The icy surface makes travel hard enough. Trails also include routes trough the underground bunker network.
2. Virginia. Trails include routes trough the beautiful forests and trough some refugee camps as well.
3. Rufusland. Trails are on the different planets in the sector. They include routes on the volcanic planets and trough the mining structures.
4. Fujiko. Trails include routes trough the mineral processing plants.
5. Yicuqibu I. Due to the desert terrain, travel is limited. Trails include routes on and beneath the dune seas.
6. Ahmar. Trails include routes trough the various forests on the planet. The final stage is situated around mount Uvanimo.
7. Xylar. Trails include routes above and in the water. It is recommended for competitors to wear water suits during the stages.
8. Gashmere. Trails include routes trough the mountains, tundra's and trough the cave systems.
9. Anisa. Trails include routes trough the coniferous forests and the farmlands.
10. Nataria. Trails include routes trough the lush forests, but also a stage in Fort Minori.
11. Yamatai. The final planet of the rally. Trails include routes over all of the planet, including a course in Central Uesureya. The final stage and the rally finale ends on Ketsurui Avenue, in front of the Empress' Palace and the Imperial Palace.
This route will cover nearly 45 ly in length and 25 ly in width.

And here's a similar yet shorter(only 5 planets) rally example for Nepleslia:
1. Nepleslia Prime. Trails include races trough the underground tunnel systems. Also a stage in Prime City and one in Sargasso.
2. Veritas. Because of being gas giants, the rally takes place in space mostly. Trails include stages trough the floating cities and space stations.
3. Kennewes. Trails include races trough the swamps and marshlands.
4. Delsauria. Trails include routes trough the desert and within the city of Juhana.
5. Nepleslia. Trails include routes trough the various cities on the planet, ending at the Nepleslian mega-city capital of Funky City.
This route will cover nearly 25 ly in length 20 ly in width.

Be free to share your thoughts on these ideas. Personally, I think pod-races are the best, 'cause that way you can really mix the different species.

As said before, I also support the lacrosse sport that Syaoran has come up with.

Not to mention that before any sports events can happen in other factions, there needs to be first contact first :p (no one is really aware of the Neshies yet)

There would also need to be some major changes politically before it would really work, since half of the factions aren't particularly fond of the others.

The Yamataian government is not willing to host races in the Imperial District of the Kyoto Megacity (at least not now) and the Star Army of Yamatai will not permit races in military bases to include Central Uesureya. However if we need race courses in Yamatai, I'm willing to build some and find other Yamataian cities that can host courses. I was thinking a cour that goes from Tesenjou space elevator through the edges of civilian Kyoto where you can see the skyline, and finishing in Tania would work.
