Star Army Item Generator Thread

What's your programming environment, MM007? WxPython? Visual Basic? Visual C++?

I hear good things about Visual C#. I'm thinking about trying that sometime. :)

Visual Basic. I can do some QBasic as well. I am an amateur. ^^*

Also, the Generator's Item Code numbers, with the addition of the Generator's Copy/Paste textbox, may be completely removed.

Well, I gave the programs a bit of an overhaul again, moreso on the decoder this time.

Before, the mods had to type in the codes into 5 boxes. In this version, v1.2b, they can simply copy and paste the whole Type Code and Item Code into one textbox each. This required me to lessen the range of random numbers the player can pick from 11 to 49, but in no way adversely affects the program.

Now both the player and moderator, with v1.2b, can use the program with less effort. Of course, slight modifications rendered the code system somewhat different, so codes written with 1.2b+ will need read by 1.2b+ and vice versa.

The player just has to select the place, enter a pair of two digit numbers between 11 and 49, hit "OK", copy/paste the output in the last box in their Finance and Inventory, and repeat the last two steps for additional items.

The moderator just copies/pastes the Type Code and Item Code in their respective text boxes, hits "OK", makes sure the item is the same, and repeats as needed. Much nicer than having to copy by keystroke.

Now I have to say this: I have obtained a job, which will have me working anywhere from 32 to 40 hours a week. While I will still be on SA, I don't have as much time as before to sit at a computer to program for hours, or to make lists. For this reason, I, again, FRIGGIN. BEG. YOU. to assist. While there has been some support and a few lists not made by me or Wes, they have been minimal, and this is something the community should help with, especially because Wes wants to expand the system beyond salvage, and into Piracy.

The way it will be handled is still being discussed, but ship suggestions, as well as ship manifests, will be needed.

The Manifest of a ship is what that type of ship would likely be carrying. It will be independant of the program, but still needed, and is not limited in any way, save the capacity of the vessel carrying said cargo.

Here is what I propose. The highest level for the piracy bracket will not be a planet, but a combination of the quadrant and the distance from Yamatai. Essentially, follow the lines on the site's starmap to find the borders of the areas.

The next level down is either race or simply a series of common and quadrant (or partially race-specific) lists.

The next division down is the actual ship list, and it is the lowest level on the program.

The next and final level is the vessel's manifest, and is accessed once the battle with the ship has been won, and is stored on the website. The player can pick items from the vessel's manifest until his vessel can hold no more. This will be the same number of items as the salvage limit. However, it IS possible, if the mod permits, to take the whole ship with the manifest...if you have enough crew to fly both AND protect against the prisoners re-taking the vessel.

Update to the generator:

The Type Codes are now fully automated. All the player has to do now is select where they are salvaging, pirating, whatever, and hit "OK". Then they copy/paste the contents of the textbox into their Finance/Inventory thread.

That sounds perfect!

I'm trying to get as far as I can on the program before work starts next week...and I feel I'm getting close to a REAL release this time...but then again, I may think of other enhancements as soon as I send it to Wes. Again. ^^*

Requesting approval to implement these places:

S Urghlaflu, ratio of 8/4, Mishhu/Yamatai
S Bard Cluster, 11/1 Civilian/Yamatai

The Bard cluster hasn't exactly been around for a huge amount of time, and the amount of conflict there is limited to a few major sites.

Oh...I mentioned it because Venquia said there may be a fair amount of lost Civvy ships there, and I only listed that 1 Yamatai ratio point because it's so close to Taiie.

Personally, I know nothing about it.

I've made a graphic representation of how many lists have been made so far for the program.

The planets with a green circle have been added. The ones that lack a circle need to be if they have had a conflict.

If you know who fought and lost stuff there, a place list is as easy as making a ratio of the representation of debris, in terms of 12.

For example, an "8/4" ratio means that there is an 8 in 12 chance that the item will be Mishhu, and a 4 in 12 chance the item will be Yamataian in origin. These ratioes can be applied to a specific planet, Nebula, or battlefiel, and I desperately need more of them. If the races involved are already implemented, it is easy for me to implement.

If you are aware of battles at specific locations in the past and can make place lists, PLEASE do so, as it takes almost no time if you already have the knowledge, and they are needed. I've been asking for a while now.

Also, if you can make a 100 item list to represent a race, that would be even MORE helpful.

I also need ship manifests (lists of items a type of ship would likely have for cargo), which have no minimum or maximum item limit.

Edit: Gyah...just copy what's between the tag and stick it in your browser. bbcode hates the space in the URL.

Okay, here's what I have so far for the Civilian ship list:

Vampire Patrol Craft
Ghoul-Class Patrol Craft, Vampire Variant
Subjugator Landing Ship
Sojourner Medium Transport
Tripster Ze-T1-1a
Tripster Ze-T1-1a with DRIP drive
Egress Transport Ze-L1-1a
Mucoyi T1 Civilian Shuttle
Bellystabber 2-Class Raider Ship
Enforcer Power Suit Em-M1-1a
Forin Personal Civilian Shuttle No-T4-1a
Equine Small Civilian Cargo Ship No-L1-1a
‘Jilanth' Military Shuttle No-MS-01 (NovaCorp version)

Please help add more if you can think of more civvy ships. there are only 13 here. That's almost 8 repeats of all of them for the 100 list. Of course, that MAY be adequate for the Civvy ship list, but I don't want to miss anything.

Also, these ships may appear in some of the other lists too, as "Employed" vessels, which would have different manifests. Not everything on the Yamatai list will be unbeatable, for example, though an element of risk should be enacted.

Also, I have the race ratios for the different piracy sections done, and submit them for approval. Note that the "P" means "Piracy", the roman numeral is the quadrant, and the range is the distance of light years within that quadrant in relation to Yamatai. (See the Star Map.)

P I 00-10 5/5/2, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia
P I 10-20 7/4/1, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia
P I 20-30 7/5, Civilian/Yamatai
P II 00-10 5/4/3, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia
P II 10-20 5/4/3, Civilian/Elysia/Yamatai
P II 20-30 8/4, Civilian/Elysia
P Halna 5/3/2/1/1, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia/Mishhu/Elysia
P Ohara 4/4/4 Civilian/Phod/Yamatai
P III 00-10 7/2/3, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia
P III 10-20 10/2, Civilian/Nepleslia (quite a lawless area)
P III 20-30 6/3/3, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia
P III 30-40 6/6, Yamatai/Mishhu
P IV 00-10 6/5/1, Civilian/Yamatai/Nepleslia
P IV 10-20 9/3, Civilian/Yamatai
P IV 20-30 6/6, Civilian/Yamatai
P IV 30-40 4/4/3/1, Yamatai/Mishhu/Lorath/Civilian

Sorry to bother you about this, MM007: For the Ohara salvage list, please change all references of "Ketsueki" to "Ender", if it's not too much trouble. Thanks. This should be the last modification necessary.

Done, though the current version has already been sent to Wes. If he releases it before I can make a patch, then it won't be an immediate change, though.

The link works for me, but Wes has edited it since it was originally posted. Still, the first release is officially made! *SQUEEEE!*
