Banned Member
Submission Type: Yamataian Corps
Submission URL: https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:stararmy:star_army_military_police

Faction:
FM Approved Yet? Wes gave me permission to recreate the MP
Faction requires art? Unsure

For Reviewers:
Contains Unapproved Sub-Articles? Yes
https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=stararmy:occupations:investigator

Contains New art? Yes
Previously Submitted? No

Notes:
I decided on a whim to create an entire corps with four branches, three professions, a working legal system with detailed punishments and legal terms plus professional documentation as well as IC history surrounding the reforms as well as giving the corps a figurehead.

P.S. Good luck to the person who decides to look into approving the Articles of Military Justice, there's so much there if it requires its own submission that's fine. @Wes should probably have a look at some point to make sure I'm not off-piste given how centrally Yamataian this is.

I have easily fixed this with Raz' assent the fix is sufficient. If someone could move it back to Approved that would be appreciated.

This was regarding how I believed SAINT were probably more likely to handle things like Deserters and War Crimes etc. than Investigators prior to the reformation - which makes sense ICly because we see more SAINT than Investigators dealing with such breaches. Or rather, we did, now this is definitely not allowed because secret agents shouldn't be trusted with interpreting the law on its own citizens.

Whatever the case, this definitely does not warrant the entire article being reapproved for one sentence being changed and @Wes has given personal assent to the usefulness of this article. Whoever moved it jumped the gun I think, worse things have been brought up in articles and not warranted them being moved back to approval - if a certain someo.

Edit: @Fred and @CadetNewb too since they're around and can move this.

This submission was not FM approved. I do not care if Wes assented to it in private. He needs to come out and do it here as well. Regardless, I have a few problems with the way this submission was utilized OOCly.

This submission and it's accompanying articles was used to OOCly threaten IC action against a GM and her characters, because she chose to leave a minor character out of a major questioning scene, in her plot nonetheless. I view this as a gross overstep of authority from an OOC perspective and I need something in this submission that accounts for that incident.

What assurances do I have as a player and as a possible future Yamatai GM that this sort of thing will not happen again? Players should not be in a position to threaten IC action against a GMs characters, and yet this is almost exactly what happened.

idk about the whole approval deal (though Wes said what he said), but I'd like to thank Ethereal for making that quick fix about history. Sorry for not posting it here in the thread sooner. I honestly completely missed this thread when it was being reviewed.

@Immortal Cyan please read this which I have thrown together, since you guys seem to think that this corps - which has always been there since @Wes created the Investigators at the inception of the site - is worthless.

https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:stararmy:samp:ooc.

As for that incident, which never occurred beyond my objections to a character with an occupation specifically designed for interrogating prisoners being cast aside by a GM who had openly objected to any sort of oversight, that should be obvious. If people not qualified to interrogate a prisoner do so and perhaps decide to bash their captive's skull in afterwards because it killed some of their friends, if that information got out it might be less than beneficial to the Star Army's image.

I can see the headlines now - "Defenceless POW has skull caved in by blood-raged officers, can we trust our military when immoral officers torture and butcher captives?! Pictures on Page 2!"

Anyway, just take that incident in the same sense as if a SAINT operative were left out of the loop of intel that has been gathered and someone objecting to that, which I'm sure people would object to and may incur action. It won't happen if people as GMs do what they're meant to do and delegate IC actions to players with characters that actually have IC reason to handle those actions.

If that information got out? They commit genocides and don't even get messed with. SAINT also essentially is the most information controlling group coupled with the MEGAMI system AFAIK. Information leaks don't happen unless Yamatai wants it to happen to spice things up between the next genocide they choose to commit.

I came here again to like Legix's super hilarious (if inaccurate in places) post, but realized something important after reading Immortal's post: It's essential to remember that Star Army Command is the only unit that has direct authority over its subordinate commands. I don't know what that means for the article's content itself, if anything (I think it's a great expansion of the navy blue panels), but hopefully that reminder can help cut through any headcanons that may be motivating the ideas behind this discussion.

And, moreover, while the Star Army is a massive constitutionally mandated organ of government, it's less all-encompassing than our perspective as player-soldiers in the Star Army lead us to believe. It's a military with military goals and concerns, and the core concern that the original Star Army Investigators addressed prior to this SAMP expansion was, I believe, "keeping the Star Army legal."

After reading the OOC notes, I don't think this is what I'm looking for at all.

I'm going to write my own MP article, which will probably be pretty barebones, and then we can compare and mix them.

Understood. Realise that originally I was going to have it be very idealistic and like regular police but then I was told that it couldn't be that because it means players and GMs can't do whatever they want. Hence, I changed it to being much more loose.

If you need any assistance I'm always here and ready. I'll move the articles to my own user WIP space.

Edit Edit:
It turns out myself and Wes have had the same ideas for the Military Police this entire time and it's been the various comments I've been receiving that had me change it to this extent.
I'm currently helping Wes recreate the corps in the image I also always wanted them to be. Thanks everyone for allowing us to revert the corps to their unyielding lawful beginnings.
