:: Country Side :: 22nd Mech Regiment ::

Sheela moved to the floor of the big bay. She looked around at the other mech pilots dismount from their mechs. They was in high spirits, yelling greetings to their friend and compatriots. Some were quiet as they had lost close friends and battle buddies to the Mish crabs.

She felt out of place as she barely knew the guys. She looked for the senior pilot to report to. But none stood out to her. She turned and looked at her big battle mech towering over the smaller but more agile ones. A lot of them showed damaged by the Mish when they came in direct contact with them.

“Over here, Sheela!” A voice barked out from near the Judas Door in the big bay doors.
She turned and looked at the Officer as she began to move to join him. Listening to the others fall quiet and turn in their direction and began to gather around him.

Sheela came to a stop a few feet from him, unsure what was going to happen next. She glanced at the others who were gathering around her as the bay fell quiet as the techs on the scaffolding, turned to watch from their lofty perches.

“Here we have made a stunning blow against the Mishu-crabs that is a scourge of our lands and planets!” The Officer spoke, letting his voice fill the cavernous bay that held the now quiet Battle mechs that rained destruction upon the Mishu-crabs. “This young lady came to us out of the darkness bringing hope of a victory against this Scourge that fell from the sky to bring enslavement and ruin upon our fine planetary citizenry. Where Soldiers and Civilians put aside their differences and stood side by side to do their part to kill this scourge that the rest of Star Empire we once belong to and forgotten about us. Leaving us to forever to fight these creatures that plagued us! The Lady has blessed us with one so brave to travel and bring us hope against a major stronghold of the Mishu-crab! Without her Main Battle Mech, we’d still be sniping at them as our equipment and munitions bled away.”

The Officer looked over the assembled group of Mech pilots and techs. “This lady soldier has brought the wrath of hell upon the Mishu-crab and cracked open their fortress to allow the fight to be brought to them. Instead of them hunting us down and killing us off one by one!”

He looked pleased at Sheela and the men that surrounded them. “We have proven we’re still in the fight! And they are not safe behind their hive structures to cower like the bugs they are!” Turning his attention to Sheela, he spoke again. “You’ve have won my trust and confidence in your ability to fight and operate your Mech that you’ve brought to us. You are now one of us. A 22nd Mech Pilot to bring peace and prosperity that the non-combatants can see the end of the Mishu-crabs reign of terror!” He smiled at her as he continued to speak. “With that comes the responsibility of protecting all by fighting against the Mishu-crab along with your new brothers and sisters of the 22nd Mech Light Regiment! Where before the fall of our way of life into guerilla warfare and cowering in our concrete prisons when the Blessed Light of the Lady disappeared behind the horizon. We’ll now take back the night also!”

He cheered and took her hand, giving it a shake, “Welcome to our unit. May we be victorious in our endeavors!”

Outer City

He moved through the crowd as the day wore on towards evening. He listened to the citizens that lived out here as they muttered and talked about their day’s activities. Some were arguing of some female. Some females were talking about clothes and their boyfriends. A lot of the people gathered just talked about simple life stuff without a worry. He moved through them catching brief snatches of conversation.

He found a door that was boarded off haphazardly. He looked it over as a kid near by spoke up. “thas crab territory beyond there.”

He looked at the kid as pictured in his mind regular sea crabs. “Aint kinda far from the ocean?”

“Mister, not them type of crabs….The Mish-crabs.” He moved off into the silent crowd that looked at him.

“Heyaa… aahhh… never mind,” He realized he was the center of attention and fell quiet. But the damage had been done. He marked himself as an Innercity Citizen. He moved away from the door and went back up to the higher levels to find a place to settle in for the evening and possibility the night also.

Outer City

As evening progresses into night, more people began to crowd into the building, forcing those already there to higher levels within the building. He claimed a spot and refused to bulge from it, occasionally displaying his weapon to discourage people from approaching.

Soon it quieted down as people fell asleep to get what rest they could during the night. He even dozed off for a few minutes as he waited his chance to try the door without anyone bothering him. He woke to a scratching sound, looking around disorientated for a second or two till he realized where he was. Several more were awake and staring at the door he had an interest in. Some were getting pistols ready as the scratching turned to a splintering sound.

The door began to show bulges from something being pushed from the other side. People that were awake were waking others up and clearing the area out before the door. He looked at them seeing the fear in their eyes as more weapons were coming out of concealment.

The door suddenly splintered and fell away into the hallway as everyone that had guns out, pointed and began firing into the now opened doorway. Suddenly Big crabs began to pour out into the withering gun fire.
He froze for a split second and added his gun into shooting the big crabs. He took his time and aimed at them before firing, shooting their eyes out. Just as it began it was over with one dead Mish Crab laying there in its death throes. Still people shot at it till it went still.

:: Outer City ::

After the firefight, he took off from the building and roamed the streets, visibly shaken at seeing the Mishhu Crabs. He had seen the old vids of them and thought they was nothing but myths and legends before his time to keep him on the straight and narrow while grew up.

He had to make a report on this, while walking the dark lonely streets of outer city. He was making his way back towards inner-city where it was safe to regroup and think things through. At first being out here in Outer city, was an adventure and he was the toughest S.O.B. out here. But seeing the Mishhu Crabs in that numbers shocked him.

He checked his weapons and found out that they was empty. He didn’t even realize he had added his guns to the fight. He quickly reloaded them with fresh magazines and found out this was his last two. He didn’t even have the empties anymore. He just fired and reloaded, dropped the empties to keep up the rate of fire to dive off the Mishhu Crabs.

::Inner-city ::

As the sun began to peek over the horizon, he was the first to pass through the Checkpoint and soon was riding through awakening streets in a cab that waited for those that visited the Inner-city...

::Innercity::

He sat in his office, with his feet on the desk, chair tilted back as he stared blankly at the screen before him, reliving the trip into the outer city. No one was going to believe him that the Mishhu crabs were still around in outer city preying on those that were in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

But then the Innercity sat on an expanding plate of re-enforced concrete tubs or sections that had been reclaimed from outercity as the innercity expanded to hold the masses that crowded in for the security it provided to the citizens.

He focused his view on the screen before him as he took his feet off the desk and let them crash to the floor with a thump and began typing his report, of his adventures into Outercity.

Once his report was done, he made a copy, saved the orginal into a secret file of his. Then edited the copy, removing the Mishhu Sightings of Outercity and his contact with Ole’ Grumpy.

It was a typical scouting mission and the Crusher Operator had eluded him. But he was hot on her trail, letting his network of informants look for her.

:: Inner city ::

He stood and stretched. He moved from his Office, setting the report on his secetary's desk to forward on up once she had done the editing and spelling corrections. He hit the elevator and went to the roof's observation deck.

He looked out over the cityscape and down into the neon lit canyons of the city streets, watching them fill up with people, vehicles. Slowly at first, then a trickle. Followed by the dam bursting as it seamed everyone burst forth in their mad scramble. Yet with the appearance of utmost patience and calmness of having to face the same thing every morning in their drab lives. He then looked towards the horizon that tinged green in the far distance that held the escaping Battle Mech. He still hadn't penetrated the where it had orginated. But according to research, it was an old Mech Base before the war and the city grew up around it.

22nd Mech Regiment ; Countryside ::

Sheela stood up in one of the overwatch towers of the base that held the unit she now was part of. She stood tall with a sence of belonging and being part of a team. She learned a lot about her heavy battle mech.

It was nice to have a very knowledgeable team of techs to keep up with the wear and tear from usage of her Mech and what seamed an endless supply of munition for it. She even got to try out various other weapon systems configerations with the MBM. She could jump the mech farther distances and land gracefully as if she wa just hopping short distances. Definitly not like the first time when she first jumped it out of storage back in outter city.

Sheela raised the binoculars to her eyes, began scanning the area around the base. Ther ewas rumors of a counter attack by the Mishu from the previous attack by the 22nd. She had eyed the distance she would have to travel if the alarm sounded once the Mish-crabs and their varients were spotted.

Fortunately for the people here on this planet, there was a natural quirk that killed the parisite quickly once released into the planetary air in seconds, rendering them ineffective as a weapon.

She spotted a fast moving convoy of heavy haulers heading towards the Mech Base. She causually reach over and placed a call to the Guard Center and reported the sighting of the approaching convoy.

The base behind her came alive as foot soldiers and vehicles with mounted weapons moved into position to be prepped for arriving convoy. Several Soldier climbed up into the passing up a crew served weapon and setting up for action. She gave them room to work.

"Nice call," One of the soldiers growled at her. "Bringing the whole base to alert for a standard delievery of goods."

"Better be safe than sorry," Sheela snapped back. "Maybe I'll just let the gate guards deal with it then!" Knowing that they would have to respond even then, but with even lesser time to prep if it turned out hostile. "At least this gives you a chance to catch your breaths before it turn bad."

After the usual more grumblings, they all watched the Convoy approach without the usual slowing down as they approached the main enterance to the base. It didn't look good. Then the convoy began to slow down rapidly as they got closer to the gate.

Sheela went back to scanning the area, letting everyone else focus on the arriving convoy. She started close and worked her way out in a sweeping motion back and forth. Each sweep a bit farther out to cover the area in an organized fashion....

::Inner City ::

As he stood there looking out the window of his office, he could hear the outter office come alive through the open doorway. The typical chatter of of various employees showing up for their daily grind.

He shifted and spun on his feet. He strode from his office, giving his startled Secetary a brief nod as he passed her by, heading for the exit. He created a wake of silence as he passed by the others.

He moved through the corridors of the building and took stairs till he was outside the meeting room, he knew where the big bosses that ran the city met every morning before splitting off to their various offices.

He barged right in, getting everyones attention. He spoke without the usual ritual of being recognized. "Gentleman we have a problem."

The room became silent as eyes focused on him, watching him move deeper into the room. Once he felt he had all of their attention he spoke again. "I've seen and maybe explain why Missing Persons can't find those that turn up missing permantly. I am not speaking of planned kidnapping murder combination either."

He paused in his forward movement at the end of the table where a vacant chair was at for visiting minor officials that had business at the meetings. "The old threat of the NMX had surfaced. Or should say... Built nests underground of outer city. And .... Possibilty under Inner City." He looked around at the group of flustered faces showing the range from disbelief through fear to outright rage.

He held up his hand to forstall the comments he knew would spring forth at his remarks. He gathered his thoughts as the others present fought to regain their balance and tempers. "I've seen them and purposely left it out of my reports. I needed to seek council and to alert you all to the fact that they still exist."

His eyes darted over the groups faces staring at him as if he sprouted antenea and wings of different colors. He swallowed and drove on with his spiel. "So far those that are present, know what I've seen and faced in outer city on my last forray out there." Continued to look them over. "I believe that they had found a way past the base foundation that Inner City sits on. Our security of that problem needs to be addressed and dealt with. Which means that the Defence Force will have to do a recon into the bowels of Innercity to ensure that our security is still in fact hasn't been compromised."

He took the remaining seat as the doors he just entered moments before, sealed shut. Preventing unwanted intrusions till this had been properly addressed. He listened as the information had sunk in and the opening remarks from the braver ones began the discussion.

::Innercity : Council Chambers ::

He sat there stioc and unreadable as he fielded their questions and his sanity. If this ever leaked out to the public. The barrier that seperated the two parts of the city would be torn down in a matter of weeks, if not days. There was rumors of an ongoing open warfare against them out in the country. The council would stomp on that if the word did get out that NMX had a thriving community on the same planet.

Civil unrest for an enclosed society which each of the major population centers would erupt and disrupt the status quo of those that held power over their respective City-States with the vast tracts of unpatroled areas of vast wilderness that was pretty much lawless, unless you either joined up in the small communitees that always manage to survive no matter what you throw at them. Or you lived by the gun to survive any way you pleased. A law unto yourself till someone came along and ended your rampage permanently. You lived by your reputation or died by it.

Of Course, the remements of various factions of military units vying for a place in the grand scheme of things, bringing war to the hated NMX who established a thriving communities, whether they was above ground out in the wilds of the country, or underground below the cities, preying on those that were less vigilance for self survival.

It was an old topic that was never laid to rest, but debated with passion amongst the council members to keep their Fiefdoms intact or unite with vengence with the military units to eradicate the NMX for good. With an occassional tthreats to the population within their walled in Cities States to remain in power through their decendants forming a Dynasty of The Ruling Elite. It sure helped with maintaining a curfew with the majority of the population and keeping them cowed under. With the exception of those lived outside the barrier forming vast communities that fed the Innercity with a cheap workforce, resources and goods that otherwise would be depleted quickly by the willing imprisoned populance who believed in the security of those in power provided them to live in bliss and ignorance.

After an hour of rehashing and the same old arguements, he slipped out when they was finished asking him questions. He moved through the corridors back to his office to decide his next foray into outter city.

NMX Enclave :: Underground

Mishu-crabs patrol moved through the old underground passageways that were either create by them or were there previously of the old sewage and water conduits. Even a few Subways Tunnels that went deep underground to by-pass rivers that flowed above them on the surface. They was looking for a new way to the surface and into the city that was above them.

So far had met with disappointments as they came to the impregnable barriers that blocked their progress. They would stoically turn around and retrace their passage to find another crevice to explore.

Back at the enclave, fights were breaking out amongst each other over the dwindling food supplies, forcing them to the surface city of the two-leggers to prey upon them. Even then they would take losses whether the raid was successful or not.

Weeks had pasted as ....

::Countryside:

.... Sheela soon forgot about the city as she became part of the 22nd Regiment of Battle Mechs in the fight to clear out a infestation of an NMX surface enclave. The battle raged back and forth with losses on bothsides, but the enclave was taking punishment and showing more and more damage as the battle raged

: Innercity:

... He moved onto other things as more important matters needed his attention to help police the citizens of Innercity in tamping out the criminal element. Hunting them down one by one with relentless police investigative work. Even check out a few sighting of Large Crablike beasts down in bowels of the vibrant city.

::NMX Enclave ::

... Things were looking bleak for them s they began to fight amongst themselves for the dwindling food supplies as the surface dwellers became more alert to their presence below their vast metropolis. First it was the old and injured. Then the weak and careless began to die off through the machinations of others of their kind. A good old fashion weeding out of the unproductive till the strongest, most skilled, and the intelligent/ Cunning thrived to strengthen the enclave by getting rid of the dead weight of those that were a burden upon their society.

::Outercity:

... Life moved on as usual. Thriving in a lawless land where guns were the quick settlement to heated conflict of rights. And the war against the expansion of Innercity looting their resources with their big well protected Cutter Machines.

::Inner City::

He sat back in his office chair with his feet on the desk. Ignoring of the stains he was leaving on the freshly printed documents from the debris from his boot had accumulated prowling the alley ways of Inner City. He knew the people were getting restless and demanding jobs for their future of the off-springs they kept producing. The influx of Outer City Citizen crossing the gates on work visas as they would work a lot cheaper and for longer hours an the chicken feed wages. The employers exploited the cheap labor for they had no Unions or health plans that the Inner City workers had.

He had read the latest statistics which now lay under booted feet. He rested with eyes close, listening to the people walk by his office as the sounds were muffled through the closed door to his office. Conversations that held no interest as they was muffled sounds.

What he waiting for? Another assignment that send the Police Hunter into the bowel of the Inner City after some criminal that was raising hell and bringing the heat of the city citizens, council members and the police. Only time he go out to deal with such criminal, was if they eluded the police for more than a month in their insane crime spree. He wouldn't arrest them. His job was to eliminate them. Quickly with no mercy. Leaving them where they lay to be found by others as a warning that insane criminal activity wasn't tolerated one bit.

He did appreciate a good smart criminal who kept a low profile and didn't bring attention themselves. As they were just another gear of the grand scheme of thing of what made Inner City. Its when that they become bold enough to feel invincible and draw attention to themselves gave his life purpose.

Very few of these criminals had eluded him, yet he still worked their case. He will either catch up with them or they will escape into the cold grip of death.

:: Outer-city ::

The big Mega-Cutter with it train of Haulers was in full operation, slowly advancing several feet per hour. The roar of it engines at full power. The loud screeching and whine of the heavy industrial cutting edges of the drills grinding away at what ever was in it path and the loud rumble of debris flowing on conveyer belts to the proper bins of the haulers. The rumble of the debris filling the big containers.

Inner -City troops were out in full force, evicting those that lived close to the dividing wall that separated Inner-City from Outer-City, so that they could bring in the Big Mega Cutters to clear a swath of land to expand the borders of Inner-City.

It was an ongoing battle between the Die-hards willing to put forth a running gun battle against the more organized Inner-City troops. Death toll mounted up on both sides as there was no mercy between combatants sides. Even though Inner-City provided medical aid for its own troops to keep the recruitment up to feed the battle between them and Outer-City.

All along the Divider between the both Inner-City and Outer-City raged 24 hours in a non-stop battle with the Outer-City residence giving away slowly but at a high cost in Inner-City Troops and Materials.

:: Inner-City ::

"We're going to have to reach out to the other cities enclaves for additional troops and supplies. We're running to low and majority of our people who supply us with the munitions are complaining that majority of their workforces are Outer-City Residents that are not coming to work." One oversized Councilman spoke as he held the floor. He looked over the assembled group of fellow Council members and to the Chairman. "Inner-City citizens will not work for the low wages and in unsafe conditions that are prevalent in our factories."

"What do we do? Force them to go to work? That would pull troops off the front lines that are battling those ungrateful idiots that live outside our control." Another interrupted when the one speaking paused to take a breath.

"We have the Police to do that." The first Council member shot back at the one interrupted him. "Our Citizens complained about not having jobs. They should be happy now that they can work again, since Outer-City workforce afraid to cross the battle zone to even show up for work in the factories. They didn't complain about how unsafe it was to be working in the factories."

"Have you even been down there to see what goes on in those sweat shops?" Another Council Member spoke up with a sneer. "It's worser than being on the front lines!" He gave a bark of laughter. "So what do we do? Use the captured Outer-City citizens to provide the manpower to keep the Factories running?"

"Oh yeah. That is going to be just peachy. Then we would be inviting sabotage into the city. Really leaving us open for assault by the Outer-City Scum to run amok in their barbaric ways." A Female Council Member spoke, glaring at the others over her half lens granny glasses.

"Police would act as guards and overseers to prevent it from happening." First Councilman spoke, giving the female a forgiving and patronizing smile which he knew irritated her.

"Once again.. The Police! They're overstretched as is in just keeping the city safe from the criminal element that 'do' live here in the City!" She shot back with venom. "They will want higher pay for longer hours."

"We can't just roll over and let our people become crowded and unemployed. Who'll protect our Cutters in recovering resource..."

A loud boom that shook the glass to the council chambers, caused everyone to look out towards the Outer-City. Through the gaps in the taller buildings, rising smoke rose into the sky, signaling the demise of another Multi-Billion credit Mega Cutter.
