Uniform Updates for the Star Army of Yamatai

No one advocates making the artwork outdated — which it would be anyway if you added a sash, as it would add an element to the formal uniform no one yet has.
Instead, designate the coat uniform as some other form of formal dress, and come up with a uniform for medals/ceremonies/etc. It would mean some changes to the wiki, but it would maintain the art.
Medals, after all, change. They get added to, updated, etc. Adding a sash means adding medals, which means artists have to draw lots of little awards or ribbons or medallions. That's not easy, considering the time-consuming detail needed to make it helpful. With that in mind, it might be easier to not have medals in art, as any soldier that gets new medals means they would have outdated art.
Nepleslia's dress uniform is, in art, detailed. Chibis aren't meant to have that kind of detail, right? That's where I'm coming from here.

I think it'd be easier to just do away with the medals entirely then.
I really don't want to add yet another uniform to the list. I'm trying to consolidate stuff here. Yamatai's equipment list is bloated and I'm trying to standardize stuff.

I think the Sash is an good idea. Because it means that regardless of the unit and its designated uniform, the means of displaying medals and the like would be consistent.
It would let a ship decide if it didn't want to force people to wear the hat and coat for indoor ceremonies, they could designate what the appropriate uniform for the event would be.

Nash's idea is a good one in my book, if it means keeping medals. It would "formalize" working uniforms and not require new art, beyond a single example of the sash. We wouldn't have to consider a new uniform and it would add flexibility with the current formal uniform (as in, make it optional).
Working uniforms will never be used for formal occasions, but it might be okay to use the sash with a Duty uniform. Though the sash would be intended mainly for use with the frock coat since the frock coat is our dress uniform.

Sorry, I meant duty uniform. But we couldn't skip the coat and use the sash for formal occasions? You cite the photo with the coat, but history shows the majority of militaries used the sash sans coat.
The coat's been complained about since its inception as the formal uniform. A sash with a duty uniform seems like the best compromise.

The British redcoats wore their sashes outside their coats. And if they didn't have their coat on, they were out of uniform! Star Army coats are the same way. You wouldn't take our tuxedo jacket off during a formal ceremony. The Type 32 Coat is the Star Army's equivalent, in addition to possible use as winter outwear (by adding the insulated lining).
Update your history, Wes. Is there military after World War I that still used heavy coats and sashes? It's not like Yamatai is lining up in front of the enemy with muskets.

No new formal uniform will be introduced.
A sash will become part of the standard issue, to be used for ceremonial occasions. This will allow the service dress uniform or duty uniform to be "upgraded" to ceremonial uniforms without having to introduce a whole new uniform. The duty uniform will now be allowed for ceremonial purposes (use of the coat and hat will not be required).
Headwear for Star Army planetary forces (Legions) will be a forest green beret.
Bringing back the formal whites is under consideration but they will not become standard issue. If they return, they would be used for things like funerals.
Existing spacesuits and such will be kept.
