Welcome to the combined Star Army Uniforms thread!

Here's some useful links:
In this thread you can make suggestions and give feedback on uniforms of the Star Army of Yamatai.

I want to design a whole new set of medals for Star Army characters. The current medal system is messed up because the IC and OOC medals are together, and because there's not enough variety.

So, let's brainstorm on significant events in a character's career that a character would be able to get a medal for.

I'll start with new versions of the older medals, then add some more ideas.

Medals
  • A successful mission (basic)
  • A successful mission (with mission orders and a mission report)
  • A training mission
  • A discovery (successful exploration mission, first contact, etc)
  • Participation in a battle
  • Participation in a war
  • Severe Injury or death during battle
  • Commanding a starship
  • Going above and beyond the call of duty
  • Especially good conduct
  • Increasing crew morale
  • Benefiting the entire empire through individual action
  • Saving a fellow soldier's life
  • Defense of Yamatai
  • Expansion of Yamatai
  • Defending ally forces
  • Diplomatic Negotations
  • Joint Forces mission (with NDI, KIF, etc.)
  • Ace (5+ Combat pod/power armor/mecha/fighter kills)
  • Anti-Starship Ace (5+ Combat starship kills)
  • Massive destruction of enemy military forces (anti-fleet gun, etc)

Occupational Service Pins (To be worn over medals)
  • SAINT Agent
  • SARA
  • Ketsurui Fleet Yards
  • Science and Medicine
  • Plantary Garrison
  • Starbase Crew
  • Flagship Crew
  • Battleship Crew
  • Carrier/Cruiser Crew
  • Gunship Crew
  • Escort Ship Crew
  • Logistics Craft Crew (Transports, farm ships, factory ships)
  • H-Boat Crew (Hyperspace submarine?)

Also, I was thinking that a character's orders thread might also start tracking their kills, and we could have aces.

I will make art for all the awards/pins we decide on. Old medals will not be updated (characters will keep their ribbon-style ones in addition to new ones).

Suggestions for medals/pins?

I'll throw some stuff out:

Ingenuity (Finding a clever way to solve a difficult problem)

An ace medal for ground soldiers

Enduring undue hardship (resisting torture / interrogation)

Successful undercover operation ("The shadow medal")

That's it for now, I think.

An medal for the completion of a long duration mission (a several year undercover operation, a several year expedition etc.)

A medal for agreeing to have a relationship with the captain.

I might come up with others.

On a side note I'm considering that H-boat. Making it that is.

The Cannae medal for massacring a vastly supperior force.

(Although they wouldn't actualy know about Cannae.)

Holding off a vast force at the exspense of their own lives.

(Thermopolye style)

What can I say? I like the classics.

H-Boat Crew (Hyperspace submarine?)

As logical as that sounds to apply to a sci-fi setting, an H-boat is nothing more than almost any starship here with their combined field system on and in stealth mode.

Perhaps a secret operation medal would be better.

As I continue to reduce the average tech level around here, that sort of thing will become more rare, with H-boats as the exception. Most modern Star Army ships have in-space stealth via Zanarium-type substances anyway, which is fundementally different than the pocket universe thing older ships would use.

Some great ideas on the medals, guys!

Well why not just call them stealth ships like what has been done in the past? Especially sense the world H-boat hasn't come up in ship design.

When an agent is undercover, they wouldn't be wearing it, of course (especially if they were one of those types that were undercover 24/7/365). Not to mention most agents alter themselves rather drastically for undercover missions.

Came up with another one: Inventing something

*outstanding demonstration of ingenuity

*pride and honour - for those who do their job to the best of their ability everyday and conduct themselves in an authorative or respectful manner

*turnabout - for those who have made a dramatic improvement in a short while

That's all my brain can come up with now.

Developing something that makes a fundamental differance to the Empire

(For Example the Megami system, the CDD, etc.)

I came across this thread and have read it through and would like to make a suggestion. How about creating a medal for uncovering enemy undercover agents?

The problem about an intelligence medal is that everyone will know you worked for intelligence or were somehow related to the field at some point with possibly sensitive information. Then again, that just makes things interesting. There are intel operator uniform items in the military, so a ribbon isn't too far fetched, just ill advised to talk about if it's classified. (Something to wear with dress whites)

Those who receive medals rarely wear them, unless in dress uniform. I don't know about you guys, but I've never seen anyone walking around with a purple heart attached to their shirt.

In other words, I agree with Uso.

If Leonid Brezhnev wore every medal he got, he likely wouldn't be able to stand up. You display the medal's ribbon (since they all have unique ribbons anyway) and display the prominent medals since you want to show off your sweet military bling.
