RP: YSS Anoiktos Verse 1.0: A Dove Amongst Ravens

YSS Anoiktos - Briefing Room

Ambriel listened to each of their concerns and crossed her arms. She tilted her head left, then tilted her head right before opening her eyes to address them. "Our course of action is rather simple actually, we are simply to observe, and if forced to engage we retreat." She turned her attention towards Frasna and Shamshiel listening to both of their statements. "Valid worries, and a valid solution. However, I would like to come up with a way to study these new lifeforms, if that is what they are, without actually risking the ship itself. While I believe in your capability Frasna, they could have weapons for all we know down there... Then our ship would be open season for them. So, does anyone have any ideas that will let us study them?"

Charlampos thinks for a moment and turns her head a bit before looking at Shamshiel and Mihral. "Is there, by some chance, a way we could rework the shielding in our armors to protect, or even power, ourselves through outside electrical anomaly?" She quietly suggested, perhaps the brainiac's would know more than she.

YSS Anoiktos - Briefing Room

Shamshiel considered the request from Charlampros awhile, bringing up a schematic of the Hikael Power Armor on her personal EM-G8 Type 33 Datapad as she did so. Though not a specialist in weapon systems engineering, she did have one long shot theory that stood out. "I do believe there is a way, Lady Ambrosia. It may be possible through careful modulation of the Hikael PA's Spatial Distortion Generator -- which normally generates its own electrostatic fields in a pocket universe -- to instead flood these pockets with existing environmental energies and use it for propulsion and power as normal. But it could be very risky if such raw electric flows fluctuates too rapidly... however... dispersing the excess energies via the Graser CPW system may also work... hmm..."

The civilian genius continued to ramble a bit more in train of thought fashion, as she ran a hand through her reddish-orange hair. "This is all a theory, mind you... there is a non-zero chance we will instead blow up spectacularly."

Frasna hid his embarassment, having not even considered the possibility of these lifeforms - if that is what they were - to possess weaponry of any kind. "Why not run a few brief simulations through the ships computer, see what results we can get; while simulations aren't perfect, it'd at least tell us if something is plausible."

YSS Anoiktos - Briefing Room

Mihral listened to the XO's request and then Shamshiel's hypothesis thinking it over. "That could maybe work, but it might not be best to try to power our suits off the electricity, if htey have a measure of control over it we might find ourselves compromised. But there is also the possibility of reconfiguirng the shield emitters to repel the electrical frequency that is being emitted, similar to how anti-jamming equipment works, but with electricity."

YSS Anoiktos - Briefing Room

Ambriel looked at Frasna as he made his statement and nodded; “That’s not a bad idea either, we can run a few simulations while the scientists figure out how to repel the electricity. As long as we’re not pressed for time we can prepare as much as we want.” Ambriel kept a straight face, but on the inside she was actually happy to see such potential. She took a breath and looked at Charalampos, Shamshiel, and Mihral. “I want you three to head to the cargo area and figure out what you can do with the shields. I want you three to work together, Duplicari Ambrosia will watch over and make sure everything is completed in a timely manner. Semeal Frasna, you will come with me to the bridge where we will begin conducting simulations to figure out what we can do with this upgraded technology and otherwise. Dismissed” With that she turned and headed towards the bridge

Charalampos paused a moment and nodded saluting her. “Yes Ma’am.” She wasn’t the smartest person on board that was for sure, but she moved over to the two whom she was to work with and smiled. “I’m not the most scientific person in the universe, but I will do what I can to help you guys do what you can to the shields.” She took a breath and looked towards the door for a moment before looking back at the two. “When you are ready we can depart to the Cargo Bay.”

YSS Anoiktos - Briefing Room

Shamshiel fluttered her wings a few times in thought at what Mihral had said. Perhaps trying to harvest the electricity from the planet wasn't the wisest idea... but, after all, the Caesolian was a master of resource extraction equipment first and foremost, so it was only natural for her mind to jump in this direction at the outset. I'll have to save this line of thought for a larger scale colony operation later. Could still be very useful as an energy source, thought the red-haired scientist to herself as she arose from the meeting and joined the trio forming behind the Duplicarii. "I'm already redoing some new calculations based on Mihral's suggestions, and I think that the SPD could indeed dedicate more power to generating nested opposing polarity electrostatic fields that could give us sufficient EM protection. We need to experiment a bit with how long the effect can be maintained, though... the increased power draw to defense would also reduce the armor's offensive abilities to a degree."

"Yes ma'am," said Fasna as he rose from his seat, he waited until she left though before he stretched his wings a bit - they were for some reason feeling a bit stiff at the points. Hmmm, might need to have the medic take a look. he thought and then headed for the exit and towards the bridge. He had one hand stuffed in his his pockets while another was fiddling around with one of his feathers on his wing, he didn't seem to notice that other members of the crew had taken notice of this nervous action, but then again, perhaps he just didn't care - despite how he often acted, even he got nervous sometimes.

Charalampos nodded a bit and brought her arms to cross beneath her bust, before taking a breath. "Alright lets head to the Cargo Hold and gather what we need to get the testing done." She stretched her wings momentarily, and then began walking towards the door before folding them behind her, and once there she heads down the hall towards the cargo hold.

YSS Anoiktos - Bridge

Ambriel, on the other hand, would arrive upon the bridge and take a seat upon the captains chair where she delicately crossed one leg over the other and leaned back awaiting Frasna. While she awaited him however, she closed her eyes and began thinking to herself about the upcoming challenges that they faced ahead and what they wanted to accomplish. It was a long road, but a road that must be done none the less.

YSS Anoiktos - Briefing Room > Cargo Hold

Mihral gave a smile to Shamshiel when the group of three came together, she hadn't gotten much chance to talk to the woman before. "Your idea is really good. If it turns out this electricity doesn't have control of itself, we should use the idea, maybe rig up a generator of some kind for the ship." The heavy set Caesolian began to follow toward the cargo hold, making her own calculations on a data pad of her own, working with the systems on the MCAS Paladin core. "Hmm. If energy is the problem, then maybe we could set a passive mode, where it releases its own electrical charge simply to discourage electrical shocks. And if we dedicate part of the processing power to it, it could switch to active mode on an incoming electrical burst, and guide it around? However if we go that way, we're going to have to lose a lot of the automatic systems of the suit and rely on manual combat will be difficult if it happens."

A short while later Frasna arrived, one of his wings still twitching a little bit but it appears to be something he was ignoring. The man took a seat at his station and brought his console out of its lockdown mode and started to configure it for the simulations that he and the captain were going to do. "Systens are ready Prefectii, what perimeters do you want me to input?"

Cargo Hold

Raphael looked over his kit again, making sure he had everything ready for what might be his first away mission. Medical scanner, check. Tourniquets, check. Hypospray, check. The blonde haired Caelisolan put everything back into his butt pack and straightened. If scuttlebutt was to be believed, the bridge and science crew were deciding whether to go down to the planet or not, since signs of possible civilization had been found. Maybe we were a little early naming the place… he thought, placing his pack next to his power armor. He was ready, whatever the higher ups decided.

Cargo Hold

The civilian scientist seemed pleased at Mihral's praise for her approach, as the two walked side by side into the ship's cargo area where there would be room to work. "Yes, it would be amazing wouldn't it? Imagine the possibilities..." Ms. Topazios mused on this awhile, as she finished up her calculations. "Let's try your theory out first, Mihral, with the M10 Paladin Core. It is newer and easier to work with in terms of the power supply than the older wartime Hikael model I'm familiar with. Get the AIES code up and running for that, would you, dear?"

Shamshiel gave a warm smile like a mother, and then paused a moment and clapped her hands, as from a side entrance her FARS drone Beryl appeared, the mini-Nekovalkyrja hologram lugging with manipulator arms what seemed like a backup generator from engineering with some effort. "Ugh.. Shams-sama.. did you need to bring the BIG one..?"

"Of course, bigger is ALWAYS better," the Elysian scoffed for a moment towards her servant, as she began to make some connections with cables and wires from a terminal that rose from the organic floorboards, as the Duplicarii looked on. "Simulations only go so far. We are going to need to test the reaction with actual electrical field burst just to be sure... Lady Ambrosia, would you mind getting into your assigned MCAS for testing while we get prepared on this end?"

Her vibrant, green eyes slid over to where Raphael was standing by his own Hikael, getting his equipment ready. "Hmm... you there... medic, was it? You seem eager and bright-eyed. What is your name... and would you mind donning your armor as a test subject for my SPD modifications?" She seemed to ask this very casually of the enlisted Elysian to be her techno guinea-pig.

Raphael turned at the sound of female voices and looked at the new arrivals in the cargo hold. Well, there’s the science crew…didn’t realize that there was a redhead aboard though… the Caelisolan shook his head and went back to checking his power armor. Whatever it is they’re doing, it’s not like a medic would be much use to them.

“You there… medic, was it?” Raphael turned again and looked at the scientists. The redhead smiled and nodded after he pointed at himself to confirm that she was addressing him.

Well, I’ll be darned. “Sure,” he said, ignoring the sudden feeling of dread as he pulled his armor over to his crew members. “My name is Raphael,” he said, putting his best possible smile on display. “What’s your ladies names and what’s SPD? I don’t remember that being brought up at all during training.”

Ambriel kept her eyes closed for the moment, her fist gently against her cheek. She took a deep breath before sitting up completely and looking at Frasna. “Run a Ground-to-Air Attack Simulation using electrical weaponry. Once we finish that simulation we’ll run the same simulation again, however in the next situation we’ll run the simulation with the Electrical Storm in play.” She leaned forward, placing her elbows on her legs and her fist beneath her chin watching the main display quietly as she did.

Cargo Hold

One of the two red heads, the XO of the ship, Charalampos listened to the two scientists converse on ways to use the M10 Paladin Core for the means they desired. She had a calm look on her face, and her wings were relaxed. It wasn’t until the medic came into play, by Shamshiel’s intervention, that she became more focused. She had heard of the Medic, a Caelisolan of decent promise, when Shamshiel offered for him to be the guinea pig, she couldn’t help but smirk just a tiny bit. She then looked at Shamshiel for a moment as she explained she desired her to get in her MCAS, she figured there was a reason.

She looked at the Medic one more time, and looked a bit displeased that he just approached without any form of respect not only to a Patrician, but the XO as well, she kept in mind she might have to…discipline… him at a later time. "My name is Charalampos Ambrosia, XO of this ship." she then headed to a large crate that carried the massive woman’s MCAS, she opened it up with relative ease before she gets into the MCAS. A few seconds later she was standing a few feet from the scientists and the Medic once more. Her suit was quite up-to-date, having a lot of the best parts out there. “Alright, all systems check green, ready whenever you are Shamshiel.”

Cargo Hold

Mihral was delighted to hear Shamshiel's interest in the topic, it looked like they would be able to enjoy themselves with modifying things on the ship. She soon brought up a volumetric display of the schematics for the M10 Paladin core and nodded softly, looking it over while her new found partner got her equipment and some test dummies ready. Best of all they had the ship medic present, so if anything went wrong there could be some quick resuscitation.

"If we are going to do practical test, we'll have to create an emitter to represent the field on the planet..can you calibrate that while I work on reprogramming the shield Ms. Topazios?" She pulled up a maintenance terminal and attached it to Charalampos' MCAS and began to type away getting into the general systems and starting to rework the energy cloak.

Frasna gave a nod and repeated her instructions while he was inputting the perimeters of the test; he checked and double checked his work everytime to ensure that he wasn't screwing anything up, after all he didn't want to risk putting in the wrong perimeters and giving the captain a false sense of security. "Perimeters inputted Prefectii, simulations now in motion," he said and transferred the simulations current status onto the main viewscreen so that she could see the progress for herself.

Cargo Hold

The Caelisolan cringed when he realized the faux pas he had committed and avoided the gaze of the XO. Why do you always do this to yourself, Raphael? Despite his Plebian upbringing, and all the teaching of subservience to the Patricians that came with it, his time in the theatre had given his young mind the impression that he was someone special, someone who could buck the rules, like the heroes he played in Grazia plays with his family. Why can I never remember the example of Autunno?

He shook his head and looked at the other members of his crew as they prepared for whatever mad experiment they were performing. Well, now that I’ve screwed the pooch, I’ll be handed some lousy job, maybe like cleaning the bathrooms with my personal tooth brush. Hopefully, when I go along with it and do a good job being a medic and a soldier, we’ll get along just fine. Raphael chuckled as the XO got into the power armor and the slightly pudgy science officer started fiddling with it. Or maybe I’ll get lucky and she’ll get electrocuted.

Cargo Hold

(apologies, just realized I meant to say SDG, not SPD beforehand)

The red-headed, civilian cremember gave a bit of a wry look as Raphael introduced himself, and then promptly demonstrated his technical ignorance of his own assigned equipment. But such was forgivable, since he was obviously trained more for healing wounds rather than machines. "I'm Shamshiel Topazios, engineer du jour," she introduced herself with a gleam in her green eyes, "...and the SPD would be the 'SPatial Distortion' portion of the SDG generator of the Hikael armor's power supply. I'm going to see if we can achieve similar results to the M10 core tests with it. And on that note..."

The Elysian completed the hookups of the auxiliary generator that she had brought in, and using some metallic stripped cables had Beryl wind them around the core with its manipulator arms, the mini-Neko hologram going in dizzying circles as a rudimentary electromagnet was created. "Already ahead of you," chimed in Shamshiel to Mihral as the improvised EMF emitter was completed and she started putting it through the paces at low power from her organic terminal's commands and the datapad's simulations of the planet's field from available probe data. The AIES system of the Duplicarii's MCAS indeed began picking up the field strength of the area slowly increasing in overall nanotesla's, signalling they were ready to began testing once the energy cloak and shields were reconfigured.

Bridge

Ambriel looked up towards the large screen while simulation, after simulation, began running. The Anoiktos was indeed a strong ship, several simulations ended with them landing safely on ground, away from any Anti-Air weaponry. However, almost all of the simulations also showed some type of damage to the outer hull. Ambriel thought for a moment, she tried thinking of a way to improve the ships capability to withstand Anti-Air shells made of pure electricity. After a moment she let out an audible sigh before looking at Frasna. “Alright, Semeai Frasna… Run the simulations with the electrical storms in mind, and possible shifts of said storm.”

Cargo Hold

Char was admittedly nervous at the idea of getting things shot at her, especially electricity, which is one way she would not want to go. The AIES System began noting the increase of field strength that the electricity began picking up in strength. She quickly did what she had to, to reconfigure the shields and such to begin the testing. After taking a moment to steel her nerves, she looked towards Miharel and Shamashiel and said; “Alright, everything’s configured and ready, begin the test when you are ready you two…”

YSS Anoiktos, Cargo Hold

Machariel Valeria was, to put it mildly, furious.

It wasn't the fact that the never-to-be-sufficiently-damned Yamataians had elected to assign him - a soldier - to a glorified survey ship instead of something more suited to his skils. That alone would have been aggravating, yes, but tolerable (as, after all, someone needed to keep the eggheads safe from the myriad dangers they'd certainly encounter).

Nor was it the fact that they (surely out of spite) had bestowed upon him the lowly rank of "Santô Hei" - irritating as well, but understandable, considering their envy at his obviously superior combat skills.

Oh, no.

It was the fact that the Patrician known as Machariel Valeria was outranked not just by those aforementioned eggheads but by second-rate Caelisolan upstarts onboard the aforementioned survey vessel - something that, to him at least, made about as much sense as it snowing in Hell.

As he strode towards the Cargo Hold, Machariel - for the seven hundred and twenty-fourth time since departing Elysia Novus - prayed to the Lord in hopes that every Yamataian in existence would spontaneously combust, only to find his thoughts interrupted by a rather...bizarre sight upon entering the Hold as he instinctively saluted the XO (the automatic reaction one of the numerous products of his aristocratic upbringing). Turning towards the sole egghead present, Machariel then proceeded to ask "What in the blazes is that?" as he gestured towards the thing that, for whatever reason, had been decorated with metallic stripes.
