What happened to Earth

I was reading through Zakalwe's post of animals from earth and it made me wonder, What actually happened to Earth that made people leave for other planets and I am guessing eventually abandon it for good?
 
I dont really know, but I think that there never has been an earth, in our little bubble and the two main planets are sort of like the earth that never existed
 
We don't like to talk about it too much. It's a very complicated issue, and basicly untill Wes says otherwise, you're not allowed to make references to Earth, or mainstream culture.

This is why @Zack said we should call it Yamaforming not terraforming, isn't it?
 
Earth is lost to history, a legend at best. No one has any idea where it is, of it even still exists. Using the term Terraforming is a limitation of our language. There is not another word that you could use to easily convey the concept. Macro-engineering of planetary bodies pretty much means the same, but its way too wordy.
