What OTHER languages exist?

We know that in the SARP, we have ethnicities that crop up via Nepleslia: Russians, Slavs, Norse, French, probably a few ethnic Africans, so on.

But what about language? We have at least three characters who can speak French, but where did French come from? German? Russian? Chinese? Where did any of it come from, and where is it used?

As a character approver, I feel such references shouldn't be approved, and I admit I've not caught enough of them, clearly. But do they belong? We're supposed to be avoiding those "Earth" references now, but those languages fly in the face of that avoidance.

What do I do?

I do plan on making up history bit eventually... But I always imagined with my mind that this patch of the universe stemmed from American and Japan space movements.

Thus explaining why Japanese and English are dominant, as well as why (Via AMERIKA) other languages are about, too.

More of a passed down, cultural thing, yeah?

I stated clearly in Camellia's bio that she learned German from her parents. It was an oral tradition in her family line, even after they switched to Geshrin.

There is already a precedent set by several player characters, such as Helen Klein, Jo Midori, Cora's Camilla. Along with those PCs, there are many references throughout the setting of ethnic backgrounds and NDI imported cultural references. (lol @ Yui watching war movies)

What I'm trying to get at, is the fact that multiple languages from an Earth origin being on the SARP is an inevitable fact due to how many references there are scattered through the setting.

Whatever we call them, they're still English and Japanese at their roots. So...since the 'other' languages aren't tied to a race, let's call them distorted names of what they are. Or, use the language's own term for itself. (Instead of calling it Spanish, call it "Espanol". The reason: If a language has survived on its own, then the only name the speakers would know for it would be the one it has for itself. And I use Spanish as an example because that's the only one I know what it's called in its own lingo. I hear it at least once every day e_e)

The reason English got the name "Trade" instead of "Nepleslian" is because it's so common that it's considered a tradesman's tongue. Meanwhile, Yamataian is tied to a single planet of racial origin. The other tongues may as well be considered extinct if their speakers are so few.

Meanwhile, this also sounds like a Firefly-type situation: The other languages exist on the show, but since China and the U.S. were the final superpowers before they moved to the new star system, English and Mandarin are the dominant languages (most people were mostly bilingual for those two tongues). There could be a similar situation here, especially since Nepleslia used to be part of the Yamataian empire.

I always find the topic of languages an interesting one on SARP and was wondering what happened to these languages such as German and French. Did they get retconned, @Doshii Jun?

Formally, no. We never defined "French", as it appears only as words, not as a full-on language. "German" we basically left to the Abwehrans. We avoid "German" and "French" as terms, though they do pop up in the wiki -- sometimes as canon languages supposedly spoken by characters in the past.
