Why are people reluctant to switch to a Yamataian body?

They are being "phased out" because they aren't as good as other races....

I want to be a greshin because it's slightly better than a human, I don't want to be some super powered creature, a lot of people like to have frailties in thier charicters and have to worry about things like colds or sickness and not be able to lift cars off the ground (as with a neko). To use terms most of you probally know, I would rather be a marine than a Spartan.

Artifical selection? What the hell is that? You spin on Natural selection?

Jeez. You can't logicly remove a race on a whim here Wes. There are people playing this race in plotships right now. Myself encluded. You just can Mass pause the whole board because you and Fred decided that The Geshrin weren't broken enough to stay. (Nekos and Yamatians are broken due to the sheer fact of their abilities, and with the proper cyberware, Neps can be broken too.)

That's what Nepleslians are there for, though.

Geshrins shared a niche with Nepleslians, making them redundant; that is being fixed. On the IC side, it makes no sense to keep old Geshrins around when the new Geshrins (Yamataians) are available and free to upgrade to.

Let's keep this simple:

Yamatai assert they're superior. They are arrogant, stubborn and very fixed in their ways. Very easy things to hate (half the world hates the US for this very reason).

Those who are told they are inferior do not wish to aspire to become that which they hate.

OOC, I'm sure many players view them with what /b/ might call the "Wapanese" stereotype dispite the fact they actually appear to be asian.

I think many dispise playing Neko because it's such a cheap trade-off for extra abilities: you automatically become easy game and a sexual icon (Catgirls are known for having little persona and looking pretty, like race girls. Neko have inherited this stereotype) and you are essentially a disposable weapon.

Sana Nakamura asserts herself as being fundamentally a Nepelsian. She has on one occasion threatened to break Yaichiro's arm for telling her she was in fact a Yamataian (offended by this).

...What exactly is wrong with being a Yamataian over a Geshrin?

I look at it more like a small vaccination than this GINORMOUS UPGRADE IN ABILITIES RAGH I WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE!

Let's take a look at the Yamataian package over Geshrins:

Same strength
Same mindset with a digital storage center in the mind.
Self-healing capabilities (SLOW and are far inferior to Neko)
Slightly better disease/poison resistance.
Limited, minor telepathic abilities over the Geshrin.
A rather limited (and probably useless) ability to hover around stationary object with anti-gravity. This is good for preventing death from falling and helps climbing, but really has no combat applications.

It's not that bad, and hell, it's still tremendously weaker than the Neko, like the Geshrin was anyway.

Again, IMAGINE how the culture you signed up for ACCEPTS the simplicity of upgrading. It's no more than getting a vaccination or a checkup for lice when you were in elementary school.

Unless you've been playing the "stubborn I'm-me-goddamnit-and-I'm-a-proud-Geshrin-Nepleslian" card, then you have no IC reasons to be against this. And, even if you DID have a reason to resist this, you're living in an Orwellian Dystopia when it comes to personal freedoms.

How. Could. You. Not. Have. Noticed. This. Before?
Ya'll should have been preparing for this a long time ago.

But yes, I do feel for the players who, for OOC reasons, think like they're getting robbed or manipulated by the GMs. I felt a slight twinge of remorse when I had to upgrade Tom. But, really, are there any IC reasons for this not to happen?

Think of it as another step in the universe's evolution.

There are not enough documentation on the Yamataians. This leads to things like people roleplaying them incorrectly.

(I'm not trying to make you feel bad, Jake. :))

It's okay. I understand; it's the truth. We really do need a sheet for them, just as we have for Nekovalkyrja.

I'll work on it tommorow afternoon after work.

*sigh* Just lemme finish the Miharu and I'll hop on redressing some of the race descriptions. We need Yamataians and Elysians to be tidied up. *nods*

(Wes did make a small update on the Yamataians... I'm just going to work on making them a bit more detailed like the nekos, since its one of our main races)

I am so keeping Shaun on the Neph planets. I hadn't realized the Yam's were communists. I definitly need to start paying closer attention to these things -_-

Hasn't anyone looked at my post?

People have a personal interporetation of each race.

I'm sure many think that the idea of forcing people to switch bodies is emotionally very invasive and perverse psychologically.

It might not be a taboo for Yamataians but not everyone thinks like a Yamataian and many of us base our characters around some stringent fragment of ourselves or a desire. It's how we relate to our own characters and enjoy roleplay and while arguably it's breaching the tabboo of meta-gaming, everyone does it.

The realistic response -- you're role-playing. Part of your role involves you not really thinking like yourself all the time. Try it.

It's not so much my preconceptions and feelings as everyone elses, Doshii.

Tomoe is the prime suspect, but I had hoped to keep things nice and vague so you'd work that out on your own. ^^;

Please view this again OsakanOne.

We are roleplaying being close to being humans, but that doesn't mean what we are roleplaying is terran culture.

Answer me this: If upgradeing to a yamatarian is a very small upgrade why the hell would the empire spent the trillions to upgrade everyone for free?!
