[XSS Tiavareth] GM Application

XSS Tiavareth

Your plot concept: See the war from the other side; explore the NMX and their own fight for survival in the war against Yamatai and her allies from behind the lines.

Your plot format: SP with JP for most of the combats. Until about August-ish, it will be SP only with the exception of players' JP's and "introductions" which will take the place of the Interviews I did in the past and totally stole from Nashoba.

Your recruiting plan to find players for your plot: Ask people around the site and shamelessly promote it everywhere I go. There's not much else I can do; I will, however, be putting up a "questionnaire" I wrote out in my next post in this thread.

Your previous experience with running plots: I GMed Task Force Phantom before I needed to put an end to it due to real-life troubles. It was the same with 21st Fight Squadron -- of which I am a part of again, but as a normal player.

Your normal daily schedule and free time: Until college starts up again, I'm more or less free all of the time. When college starts up where I am, I'll probably be available most afternoons and on weekends.

Other Items of Interest: I want this plot to be a fun (and epic) way of fleshing out the NMX and bringing a face to the other side of the war people can be afraid of again. At the very least, I hope it'll be an enjoyable experience that will interest people and provide a great roleplaying opportunity.

The XSS Tiavareth is an NMX Plotship, with the goal of fleshing out the NMX, seeing the war from the opposite side, and having fun being the bad guy!

Waits for applause.

No? I suppose you have some questions about it.

Why should I join an NMX Plotship?

Why? Because I plan for it to be fun! But more seriously, because it will provide a unique chance to see the NMX from within. Your character will be exposed to how the NMX truly operates, what life is like aboard an NMX ship, and what it is to be an NMX Nekovalkyrja/Collaborator. I will be doing my best to give you an epic plot that takes you from Occupied Space to Yamatai (the planet) itself. I will give your characters opportunities to love, laugh, cry, and even possibly die (because death aboard an NMX ship for the vast majority of enlisted is often rather permanent.)

Before it's an NMX plotship it's a plotship, and you will see a lot of similarities between it and plots like the Aeon.

Aren't the NMX rather overbearing as commanders / Won't I just be playing as a slave to commanding NPCs?

No more than you would be in any other military plot! In fact, in the case of ships like the Tiavareth operating behind enemy lines will leave you with a lot of room for your character to show their initiative. There are some marked differences, but why play on an NMX plotship if you weren't looking for something different?

Will this plot be about the Naughty Tentacles?

First off, I truly dislike Naughty Tentacle scenes -- both in porn and in writing; But it's an inevitable truth that in the SMX and NMX that Naughty Tentacles will happen. So I'll start off by explaining that I'm going to keep Naughty Tentacles to a believable minimum, and leave it often with fade-to-black. Does this mean you won't see it? You'll see it, and if you want to write or JP something like that out you can go right ahead, you can do that as-is anyway. Mature sexual scenes will happen in this plot, but they won't be a constant sight, and will (for the most part) be separate from the main mission threads.

Will this plot be just like a Yamataian plot?

I hope not! I plan on not only providing a fun roleplay experience, but also elaborating more on "the other side of the war" by showing how the NMX troopers live and operate.

How do I make an NMX Character?

It's not all that hard. If you want to play an NMX Nekovalkyrja, there's a small wiki article here. Be warned that this is just the other side of the coin of the Star Army's Neko article, and that Player Characters are the Exception -- not the Norm. Feel free to have fun with it.

For Collaborators (or Non-Nekovalkyrja, really) it's just like making a normal character. The difference is, they work for the NMX, and their history needs to reflect how they came to work for the NMX. The easiest way would be to say they enlisted from one of the occupied worlds; maybe even the UOC.

Please note I won't be accepting any forced collaborators -- that is, people intentionally forced to work for the NMX because they effectively have a gun pointed to their head. No people with bombs strapped to their chest, no one with a family that's threatened... The fact is, if they were important enough to be forced to do anything, they wouldn't be an enlisted soldier on a ship behind enemy lines. People who are unintentionally forced into collaboration by themselves (for whatever reason) should be good to go; they're in the same boat as a cloned Nekovalkyrja, without the slight brainwashing effect.

I also won't be accepting Mishhuvurthyar characters. They will be strictly NPC's.

Wait, Nekovalkyrja are brainwashed? What about my character's freewill?!

The Nekovalkyrja in Star Army are (slightly?) brainwashed too. They feel as if they owe the Empire for their life, and they can only repay it with their loyalty and love etc.... That's brainwashing. The NMX Neko have something similar, but in their case they're more loyal to their sisters in the unit. They cling to the familiar, and the NMX is familiar, and naturally they fight for the NMX because of this. They think THEY'RE the good guys. The NMX Neko article I linked above explains it better.

What about all the times the NMX were beaten up like mooks in all the plots and all the fights? Why would I want to play within what amounts to a weaker version of Yamatai?

Because it isn't a weaker version of Yamatai. The NMX is a different beast altogether, and the easiest way I can handwave all the precedents of NMX inferiority is to say "Commanders, like in real life, vary in their skill." But possibly that isn't enough. The problem in this case is that GMs as individuals choose to portray the NMX differently, and so you get this rather confusing image of the NMX. I can only say "Player Characters are the Exception. Not the Norm."

I plan to show you over and over again in this plot that the NMX can face adversity well too, and are equal to their Star Army counterparts at the very least. Death could, should, and in this plot definitely will be a real possibility, but Death is just another problem players will have to overcome.

What rank does my character start out at?

Just like in Star Army, your character starts out at the very bottom. If you want your character to be someone higher-ranked, talk with me and make it a well-detailed character. Obviously, to be an officer will be the most difficult, and preferably I'd like only senior SARP Members to even try. On a small ship like the Tiavareth, humanoid officers are possible, but are definitely not the majority in the commissioned ranks.

Alright, I'm in on this. SSharp has my trust as a GM, and if Wes didn't trust him to run an NMX plotship, this thread never would've been posted.

To be honest, I'm hesitant, because he recently left two different plots over a small disagreement with the FM over something that had nothing to do with the plots, and left both plots in an interesting situation, since both plots had his character majorly involved at the moment and were given no warning.

About all I can say is it had nothing to do with the disagreement Aendri is citing, and that Aendri wasn't even a part of those situations.

Yeah, you're all either: slaves, thralls, parasited hosts, zombies, or portable food supply. You also all don't get a good enlistment and retirement plan. :)

From what I've recently seen, Wes is trying to humanize the enemy, which is not a really good idea. Since the Mishhu are supposed to be despotic, amoral monsters.

Untrue, as the NMX articles clearly point out -- not to mention my plot being a dead give-away.

This plot has my approval.
