Blackness. Pitch blackness. This is the fate of our world. As bright as it's future seemed, it all went down the drain. Too few are left; too few to actually make a difference. But we can only try. that is what we have left to do. Some said it is futile, they are now dead. Many stood up te fight. Most of them are dead. But the few, ah the few. The few who survived the apocalypse. They are the strong, they are the worthy. They have earned the title of "Hero". Why? Why are there now heroes? Why is the world dead? Why is everyone else dead? Clearly, it is our own fault. We advanced too quickly, surging forward with new technology, eating our own resources as if they would never end. Now look at us. We are hunted like rats. And by what you ask? Well, our own kind, truthfully. We created them, based off both our strongest weapon and our old enemies'. But now, is the end. What should we do? What can we do? We fight. It is all we have. Humanity and it's annoying will to survive. Me? I, myself am glad for it. I needed a change of pace.

This is the beginning... of the end.

Re: Ye 37: the last stand (under construction)

Seven years in the future, The galaxy is in chaos. anything resembling a government has been overthrown or fled to the far reaches of the galactic north, out of the reach of their enemies. The war managed to go well for Yamatai, though Nepleslia had to step in and help out near the end.
Just before the end of the mishhu war, in YE 35, a new type of nekovalkyrja was created. based on the NIWS system, this new type was the strongest, fastest, most intelligent nekovalkyrja yet. but, there was a glitch in the NH-35 programming, a very fatal glitch. At the change of the year, the glitch was felt for the first time; a problem with the coding casued a certain date and time to make them insane. 3 million of them went insane, simultaneously.

Now, everything is in shambles, all of the important places, places special to everyone fell one by one. First Yamatai, and all it's holdings, then the same with the fifth EF at Jiyuu. Elysia was to go third. Nepleslia lasted longer, as all the factions consolidated their forces there in a last ditch effort to stop a now mutual enemy, but it too, soon fell, leaving most people no choice but to flee. Those who could not flee stayed and fought to the death. then something happened; Aether dried up, and couldn't be used, along with most advanced ways of gaining energy. Another way to defeat zesuaium was discovered, mitigating it's usefulness. That weapon, too , soon lost it's usefulness, as an energy source capable of sustaining it could not be found.

it now takes weeks to store enough power to make an FTL jump, and most ships float useless around dead planets, aging relics of a glorious past. Even the victorious NH-35 were not spared, they are in the same dire straights as everyone else, only, there's more of them than there are of anyone else. Those who were left behind are forced to fend for themselves, lasting out the years fighting and foraging, just trying to stay alive. Life, Something that is now precious, all ST technology destroyed by the NH-35, except in those far reaches of the galaxy, or floating useless in the lifeless derelicts.

Among the technology that did survive is power armor, though it is dangerous to use. On the battlefield, it may have an advantage over the largely unshielded enemies, and give an edge over those who are, but it is easy to detect, and can draw larger forces to your area. as the NH-35 are all psionically connected, within a certain distance, of course.

Re: Ye 37: the last stand (under construction)

NH-35 "Midnight"
the NH-35 is also known as the midnight. such an advanced body design, it could only be constructed in one color to function properly: pitch black. The body looks like an enlarged Mishhu/Neko hybrid's. Their psychic abilities are as powerful as a mishhu's. They have the customary pointy ears of their kind. The digital mind is about as powerful as a MEGAMI computer system, and they are able to lift up to 3 tons. from their fingertips, monomolecular blades grow on demand, allowing them to cut through nearly anything. And, just as a NIWS, they can grow weapons inside of themselves, though at a much faster rate. The only method of warfare that has proven useful against them is guerilla warfare, as the glitch also erased the data in an NH-35 about how to counter such brash tactics. the only other flaw, it seems, is their inability to change their own coding, which could fix this problem.

as it stands, there is one group doing marginally successful, a multicultural group stuck in the ruins of Nepleslia. using their different backgrounds to support and overcome each other's weaknesses, this group of heroes might be the last chance to save the galaxy from its own mistake.

Are you going to start this roleplay? Where would the setting be? Would you consolidate all the characters in one key point? If so where? I might be interested in doing this with you.

Holy dang.... people noticed this?

The setting is a hugely messed up (even more than now) Funky City on Nepleslia, and all the characters would be in one group. Aether no longer exists, and anything that takes a lot of energy to use/produce is not viable, because the NH-35's can notice it and take it out quickly. Energy weapons are rare, but chemical weapons are very common, and can be found just about anywhere. PA are hoarded and kept hidden from most people, only to be used in the event of a large scale attack.

You can either use an older version of a character you already have, or simply make a new character for use in this, but I'd need to look over both of those to make sure you don't make a mary sue.

((In that case, how's this?))

Throughout the many still-standing, yet ruined buildings and structures in Funky City, a figure was patrolling through them, scavenging for things such as weapons, medicine and, possibly, fresh batteries.

He was wearing the same jacket, same goofy grin and big ol' sideburns (plus a newly acquired stubbly jaw) which he was most recognised by.
He was striding through a ruined apartment block with his also recognisable KZ 10mm Mass-Production Pistol. An antique, but still very reliable after so long.

As he moved slowly through the wreckage, picking his way through decay and squallor in each of the buildings and picking up things such as the odd box of .45 bullets, 10mm bullets or Shotgun Shells or a battery only suitable for something like a toy or TV remote.

He sighed to himself, "Slim pickings... I better head back to base." He began retracing his steps through each of the apartments, making his way downstairs, when he heard a clunk and thump. Someone or something else was down there.

Keeping quiet, he knew that competition was the last thing he needed. He raised his pistol and leaned over the rusty railings. He didn't see anyone. He waited for a few seconds, then kept moving with his pistol raised, cautiously.
Suddenly, the wall to his right burst open in a cloud of debris, followed by a guttural groan upon the sight of something to kill. It was one of them.

"I should be running." Luca noted to himself as he jumped down the rest of the stairway, about two storeys down, landing with a thump on a pile of rubble, and immediately firing two shots above him, one flying past and the other merely annoying the NH-35 as it leapt down with blades deployed, missing.
Luca made himself useful and sprinted through more rubble on the ground floors of the buildings, looking for a sewer entrance or safehouse to lose the monster in.

Luca would suddenly feel a hand grab at him, and he would be yanked sideways into a pile of rubbish with a thud. Suddenly, he was rushing downwards at a frightening pace, but after a few moments it slowed down before clanking to a stop and being pulled sideways through a tunnel, a door slamming behind him and the owner of the hand, whose face he couldn't see yet. The platform (for lack of a better word) they were traveling on continued moving, showing no signs of stopping. Luca's Savior remained silent, perhaps waiting for the 27 year old to speak first.

"Gah, great - Captured by those catbitches." Luca mumbled to himself at his predicament, but upon finding that he hadn't been torn to pieces yet, he began to think that this was a blessing in disguise, "... or not?"

He scratched his head a little. It'd been a month or so since he had good social contact, "Finally, someone who hasn't threatened to tear off my face or steal my stuff. Pleased to meet you."

Another figure shrouded Luca in its shadow and a clunking noise was heard. A slim female stood beside Luca, watching behind with intense eyes. Her arms and legs were cybernetic, and in one of her arms she carried a very large, long cannon. Twin bandoliers of ammunition were strung across her chest; they were missing ammo, showing the difficulty of finding munitions of that kind in this era. She lifted the cannon to her shoulder, taking up a defensive stance, sighting along the barrel for any movement of anything following them. She stayed silent too, perhaps in deference to Luca's savior, or perhaps not wanting to spoil the silence that reigned supreme.

"I recognize you" A voice said, and sudden lights revealed a rather tall blond man wearing a ragged Grey trench coat, over what appeared to be a camouflage Star Army of Yamatai uniform. He had a ragged leather belt strapped around his waist, holding a sword of some kind and an RPB, as well as a few boxes of ammunition in pouches. "Weren't you fanous or something?" the man asked looking over Luca and his own companion, whom he was still getting used to.

Luca glanced behind himself to find his newfound companion.
"I'm not sure who that is behind me, but she's got a bigass gun," He observed the cannon on her shoulder and caught a look at her chest, before turning back around and getting to his past glories:

"But yeah, in YE31, my old crew and I managed to destroy a splinter cell of Reds who were threatening Yamatai and Nepleslia with a deadly virus." He sighed, remembering all of the familiar faces who had fled to the north, "In the resulting years afterwards I was thrust into the spotlight as a celebrity mercenary and took on numerous other threats to the major powers. The IPG, SAINT and UOC Peacekeepers loved me for it and my name even managed to reach most of the alien races. I never really asked for much in return. Just the thrill of the mission kept me going - not that this new NH-35 screwover is any less eventful!"

He then knew he was starting to ramble, "Anyway - I'll help you two out, I'm more than happy to." He then made notice of the platform he and his newfound friends were zipping along on, "Where are we going anyway?"

"..." Kai Nakamura looked Luca over for a few more seconds "Yeah, You're who you say you are." somewhat unenthusiastically. Fame and fortune no longer mattered to him because of all this madness. After a few more seconds, he answered luca's question. "Not entirely certain. this is all moved by weights, chains and mechanical timers, plus a basic randomizer switching the tracks around. We could be going to one of a hundred places, but we don't know. I suspect that they can read our minds, so if we know where we're going, they do too." Kai stood up and put a hand on a somewhat rusty metal pole that made up the framework of the platform, and looked back at where they had come from. No signs of a follower; that was good. he was running low on the explosive ammunition for his gun, and didn't think he had enough luck left to get one with his sword.

The woman behind Luca set the large cannon that rested on her shoulder down, butt first, so that it stood about as tall as she was. She sighed, "Didn't think we'd find anyone still alive in that part of town; there are 'nights all over that place. You're either lucky or have a damn good explanation. Because of you, we had to cut short our check for supplies in the area."

She looked at her bandolier, "Damn, and I'm running low on these things. Where else am I going to find depleted uranium?"

"Funny, I was looking for things around that bit of town too. Here..." He held up two small boxes of 10mm and .45 ammunition, another small box half full of shotgun shells and a few small batteries, the sort one would put into a TV remote or toy, "This is what I dug up before that evil catbitch tried to turn me into a scratching post." He frowned, "If my shotgun was working, it'd be splattered against the walls."

The shotgun in question was currently on his back, but some of the bits and bobs in the ejection mechanism were stuffed and had to be replaced, but it did prove a useful place to store shotgun shells that were his.

The platform began slowing suddenly, then screeched to a halt. The lights informed the passengers that they were in an access tunnel underneath the ruined subway system. "AH, It's taken us to the main base, You're in luck" Kai said, stepping off the platform and towards a door, which he opened, revealing a large room filled with all sorts of junk. the walls were covered with misshapen Zesuaium panels, and three large boxes were hooked up to a number of viewscreens. along one wall was a collection of dilapidated PA, including two DAISY, an AIR, three WATER, a single Mindy, and piles of what appeared to be demon series suits. along another wall was a collection of small arms and a few larger weapons, most without ammunition. What little ammunition there was had been locked inside a large metal cabinet. Several exercise bikes were strewn about, all had been converted to manual power generation and were connected to various things. "Welcome to my humble abode" the Yamataian man announced, taking off his coat and hanging it next to the door.

(Anyone else who wants to join, now would be a good time. just post that you were in the room doing something. the three boxes connected to viewscreens are MEGAMI cores, being used as computers.)

"Ohh," Luca said with a wistful smile as he glanced at all of the supplies at his disposal, "Fallout shelter." He looked for a table of some sort and put his shotgun down. He had to push the lever forward and remove the shells manually to get all of the cartridges he had stored.
He put them in his pockets as he inspected what had gone wrong. 5 years of work out in the field and 2 through hell and high water had taught him how to keep his weapons in good nick.

"It looks like the ejector and chambering mechanisms are screwed..." Luca concluded once again as he began looking through small boxes of gears and mechanisms fit for weapons. He stopped when he got the right parts (eventually) and turned to the two who bought him here, "By the way, I never got your names."

The woman slung the huge cannon on a rack above a couch, which seemed well taken care of, despite the times. She did not, however take off the ammunition belts strapped across her chest. Walking past Luca, she quipped, "I guess we're going to be taking in another stray. Name's Meli, don't eat us out of house and home, you got that?"

She walked away, stopped, then turned around and gave Luca a very tired smile, "Glad to meet another survivor though; wasn't sure how many others we'd find in this ruin."

With that she walked into a corner of the room, where there was a large oven-like machine sitting there with large warnings stamped across the thing. Meli inserted a piece of bread into it, pushed a button and lay down next to it.

"Don't you worry Ms. Meli, I'm fairly low maintenance..." He replied happily as he took his shotgun apart and tossed away the broken bits, "...unlike this lovely firearm. Nearly had me turned into a pile of medium rare steaks at the wrong moment."

He made the required replacements with a bit of shoehorning, brute force, and the old Pavone brand of ingenuity. He then put everything back together, and loaded one cartridge into the magazine, and one ready to chamber.
He felt a little bit showy, so he decided to pull the lever forward to cycle the magazine, spin it and catch it by the grip with a new cartridge chambered ready to go. He caught the stray cartridge with his off hand.

It was an old trick his father taught him. The trick was not only spinning it properly, but doing it quickly and getting the under lever pulled far enough to cycle the weapon.

Luca smiled on his victory against faulty technology, "Groovy."
He pulled the lever again to empty the weapon and he put it back over his shoulder and his ammo away, sitting down next to Meli.
However, he kept his distance. He knew that freespacers came with radiation that could cause people to become sterile - not that it'd undo the damage he'd done over the years.
