Hello! Just landed in this neck o' tha' woods. I've never truly been sure what I'm supposed to say in these types of introduction threads, so I'll just roll with it.

A new guy. Should sum most of me up.

It means I don't know too much about the community here, nor am I overly knowledgable of the universe and, what's more, it's been so long since I've last roleplayed on a forum that it's safe to say I'm a rookie, again.

So. Ummmm. Yeah.

I come from the faraway land of Russia, so if I make any mistakes or my writing's lame, that's probably why. I'm also 19 years old and am currently in university.

What else... I've been RPing in MMO's for the past year or so. WoW, GW2, Rift Online, etc.
Community there was fine, but time and again I've found myself craving for story and substance while getting more and more annoyed by the constant cutsey socially awkward characters that had a thing for hugging and cuddling every other character they could find. It was all rather... shallow.

As for characters... I've always had a thing for freelancers in space. Just has some kind of romantic charm in it for me. You're alone in an infinitely large universe, no one's really looking out for you. Free to travel wherever you want, talk to whoever you want and work wherever you want. After reading up on the wiki, I decided that a bounty hunter sounds like my thing. Or a pirate. Either one is good.

In terms of roleplay, I always tend to involve myself with the darker aspects of the world and character interaction. Conflicts, fights between characters, human psychological imperfections... These are probably the things I capitalize on in my characters and their interaction.

I'm also very heavily considerate of what goes on in my character's head. I can't just take one of those feels you get that tells you: "I want to RP [insert some sort of proffession]!" and go with it. Instead, I'll sit for hours trying to put together a psychology for my future character. And ough, history. That's something I haven't seen much success in, so in future characters I'll hope to get merciless and unrelentining criticism.

And I think I've said everything that comes to mind, I guess. Once again, Hi.

Welcome to Star Army!

Let me say from the get-go that your English is absolutely excellent, at least from what I can tell in this post. :) And given what you outlined about your RP interests and history, I think you're going to do just fine here, no matter where you go.

As many of the players with longer history here than me will tell you, the SARP (Star Army Role Play) universe is absolutely massive. There is a LOT of information on the wiki, so don't be discouraged or shy about asking someone for help. The IRC chat is a good place to start if you want to get to work making connections with the community, as there is almost always someone online who can help you get started, and maybe even give you some pointers on what plots you might be interested in. You can get straight to the IRC chat via a link at the very top of the page, just below the Star Army logo.

The Open Roleplaying forum is worth looking at if you want some writing practice, or to familiarize yourself with the way things work, or just want to jump straight into the action, because they do not require any kind of prior approval to start roleplaying. As a courtesy, however, it's usually a good idea to PM the original creator of a thread to ask permission to post on their plot, but unless they specifically state particular restrictions, it's usually okay to jump in on one. Alternatively, you can create your own, and see if anyone jumps aboard with you. I still ask that you observe a PG-13 rating, since those forums are publicly viewable, of course, be respectful of other players, and stay to the best of your ability within SARP lore, but other than that, you have a lot of freedom there. The material posted there is treated as "quasi-canon" unless a staff member or GM adopts some of it in their plots, and/or adds it to the wiki.

If you want more consistency and a regular GM to run scenery for you, then you should look at the list of active plots. This is by no means an exhaustive list of places you can get involved, but rather a list of the most active and most high-profile plots currently being run on Star Army. There is a wealth of information on each, including how fast the plots move, how many players are involved, who the GM is, and the requirements for joining. Each plot also has its own wiki page detailing the specifics of that particular scenario.

Here are a few more helpful links for your reading pleasure as well:

1. New Player's Guide
2. Characters and Roleplaying
3. Guide to Creating a Character

There are of course lots more helpful links that others may add to this list, but the above ones, including the active plots link, should at least get you started. I hope you enjoy yourself no matter where you wind up, and perhaps I'll be RPing with you one day. :)

I have to say, after reading a few threads here and there, that I really respect the way the members and staff take their time to write extensive and informative answers to each and every introduction. Leaves you with a warm feeling.

Thank you for the reply. I've read through most of what you've posted and I'm fairly sure I understand the way things work with character creation and the roleplay. I've had a few different character ideas floating around in my head, but I'm not going to commit to either one before mining the wiki for all the info I can find. I'll be sure to join the chat and ask around for some help and tips as well.

The more detailed the universe, the better. Gives more space for character background.

Welcome, @Gladislav - I'm Wes, Star Army's original creator. I'm pleased ot meet you and I hope you find this site to be as fun and thought-provoking as I do. I want to help however I can and I am happy to answer any questions you have. Floodwaters covered most of the basics. You can actually start immediately by joining any Open RP thread (you can make up your character as you roleplay) or you can make a detailed character using the character creation guide, and join one of the bigger ongoing RPs. Or both. It's up to you! Star Army has a number of factions to choose from, and they are all worthwhile. When you are starting out, I recommend to go to some of the more active ones. As you explore the Star Army universe, you may find holes in it. If you want to submit ideas to fill that gaps or expand the setting, you are welcome to do so.
