YSS Kishi Maru, Corridor

Hitomi sighed for probably the fiftieth time since beginning this never-to-sufficiently-be-cursed mission as she fidgeted around impatiently inside her PA. "Uehara-Heisho, Amaterasu-Hei......have the two of you somehow managed to make any progress whatsoever in the past five minutes?" Bloody hell......must I do everything myself?

As work began on the consol, systems responded. Lights flickered on all throughout the ship, returning the familiar pleasant glow to the ship. The MEGAMI was still offline, in a pre boot diagnostic cycle, not something uncommon after such a long time dormant. Despite this, backups began bringing the essentials back online. Life support, internal heating, automatic doors and emergency forcefields snapped into place, sealing all of the holes blasted into the transports hull. She was slowly coming back to life.

As soon as Atago's mine data was to them, the sensor crews went to work, quickly sweeping the area for an initial search before they would go into a high detail scan of the wreckage. Three phase mines were detected in the first sweep and that data was piped back to Atago's station

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

"Three spatial distortion, usually found around phase mines located ma'am. I am sending data up to CiC so our squadrons know the locations." Atago reported and worked fingers on the console. She then returned to what she did before. It was likely there were more mines than these.

As the ship started to come alive, Miiko privately cheered for Aki, encouraging the more abused of the Amaterasu twins and rewarding her for her quick success. A moment after Miiko sent a response to the impatient Taii, "We have restored power and basic systems to the Kishi Maru. At present we are waiting for the MEGAMI to progress through diagnostics and recovery before beginning to asses just what happened here. We thank you for your patience Taii."

Not really interested in what the abnormally toxic XO would have to say, Miiko turned her full attention toward supporting Amaterasu Aki in her task, and ensuring that their mission would be completed within optimal time, with the best possible results. After all the sooner they were off duty, the sooner they would be able to politely excuse themselves from the presence of the XO, and hopefully enjoy their tour aboard the Takamagahara.

YSS Kishi Maru - Damage Control

The cheer privately received from Miiko did well to boost the spirits of the blue haired Amaterasu twin while she continued work coaxing MEGAMI back from dormancy. Also Aki took the liberty to run a full diagnostic sweep on the systems as they came back online to get a detailed report to know the full extent of damage done to the ship. It was to done to preempt the XO, as she readily expected results without wanting for them to be asked for. Not that it wouldn't benefit her for learning such about the First Officer, it was just the way it had to be learned was a huge negative.

Meanwhile, Emi returned from her area sweep around the Damage Control Center and came up empty handed so she took to stay on guard within the room while her sister worked diligently. "Excellent work Aki, I knew you could do it." She commended her sister openly, perhaps inviting another negative comment from Hitomi in it's wake.

The NH-33(Mini) Nekovalkyrja known as Nakadai Hitomi blinked, completely stunned that her subordinates had actually managed to accomplish something on their own. Granted, it had taken them a very, very long time - in the Taii's opinion, of course - but still......such a feat was most definitely not something the XO had expected out of the incompetents she'd brought with her. What in......the.......? Bloody hell, they.........accomplished something?

Hitomi's obligatory negative comment was, for once, lacking its usual frozen edge. "It......took you long enough..."

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

Momoe nodded and looked at the indicators on the tactical display. "I don't want the fighters caught by any other mines that might be hidden still" she said and tapped the comm button on her chair. "Patrolling fighters, this is command, withdraw to escort position one." she said, then watched for a moment as the fighters, save for the ones investigating the gunship, pulled back.

"Atago, clear the mines with the long range guns"

YSS Kishu Maru

While the computer was still running through it's cycle, the ship as a whole was coming back to life. Lights were on, air was flowing back into the ship's internal spaces and the heat was already up to near comfortable levels. All around the thin layer of ice, frozen condensation, that covered almost everything, was melting.

In the main passage, Hitomi coukd see one of the dead nekovalkyrja bodies, one that had been crumpled against the base of the far wall. She wasnt sure if it was trick of the brightening lights, or melting ice, but she could have sworn it twitched.

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

"Yes skipper." Atago confirmed that she hear the orders. Long range batteries were up and running, powered up and ready from the moment, Takamagahara arrived. Atago started targeting the mines, setting up the vectors and checking the data from the sensor screen. She had to be sure there would not be any blue on blue, or that she won't hit Kishi Maru or any other wrecks. On those wrecks were information on what exactly happened not to mention that yamataian vessel might have carried souls of old dead nekovalkyrja. It was imperative nothing would happen to those. Same with the NMX ship, even though there could enemy on board, there could also be corpses of prisoners and intel. Either way, Atago had to be extra careful when clearing the mines.

"Targets set, vectors are clear." Atago reported as the targeting system blinked green on her screen. "Ready to fire on your go ma'am." As soon as the captain would said the order out loud, Atago would blast the mines to kingdom come.

YSS Kishi Maru, Corridor

Reflexively igniting her swords with a distinctive snap-hiss, Hitomi pivoted so that she was looking directly at one of the corpses slumped against the far wall - for she could've sworn she'd just seen it twitch. Which, of course, is utterly impossible; these Nekovalkyrja, after all, simply can't be alive still...

Her expression that of someone rather...confused, the XO of the YSS Takamagahara proceeded to switch her PA's visual sensors to infrared in hopes of determining just what was going on...

YSS Kishi Maru - Damage Control

While she waited for the MEGAMI to awake, Miiko took a brief moment to appreciate what progress they had made. The ship was relatively well lit, sensors indicated that the limited atmosphere was recovering, and soon one would almost be able to say it was as comfortable as home... Albeit with some creative decoration she supposed. With no immediate tasks requiring her attention, Miiko had returned her LASR to her Sylph's hands, letting Amaterasu Aki take over the recovery duties after all it was what she specialized in.

Looking around, Miiko made sure to nod her Sylph toward Amaterasu Emi, wondering briefly what the SAINT thought of their circumstances. After all it was far from common that personnel such as themselves were found aboard lost, drifting derelicts like this. At present things had gone smoothly, though Miiko hardly felt relaxed after all she was still on board a foreign vessel of mostly unknown status. It would be foolish to relax.

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

"Fire" Momoe commanded, leaning forward in her captains chair, chin resting in her hands as she reguarded the tactical holo.

YSS Kishi Maru - Passage

There was little data that Hitomi's sensors coukd pick up, with how much ice coated the long dead neko. But there was something. The neko twitched again, all four limbs spasming, the sound of cracking ice filling the otherwise silent passageway. It's eyes dead fogged and glassy, open when the neko had succumb to the elements, rotated in their hollowed sockets to look directly at Hitomi.

There was no life in those eyes, just a dead void. The neko started to move in slow jerky motions, as if breaking ths bonds of it's icy grave as it struggled to push it's self up with long dead muscles and staggar towards Hitomi, arms reaching out for the armored mini neko officer.

YSS Kishi Maru - Damage Control

Part of the computer was up. The status board flickered a few systems to green, including the turbo lift network, which would allow rapid transit throughout the ship. Just as the reactivation of this system was being relayed to Miiko and the twins on the DC board there was a movement in the corner of the compartment, two of the dead neko crew were standing, staring at the engineers with lifeless eyes, icewater pouring off of them.

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

"Yes ma'am," Atago simply replied. She smiled at the screen, little sad that all she had to fire upon was pretty much practice targets. Still it was better not having to fight anything. Either way Atago was ready. Should shooting the mines awaken something, like sleeping battlepods hidden between the ateroids, Atago would be here, waiting for them with finger on the trigger so to speak.

Not breaking the smile, the blonde mini-neko pressed the button and YSS Takamagahara fired its gun for the first time in the official service.

YSS Kishi Maru, Passage

♫♫ All the Strange, Strange Creatures ♫♫

Hitomi's expression was the definition of pure, gut-wrenching horror, the blood in her minuscule veins turning into ice-water as the spastically-moving, seemingly resurrected Nekovalkyrja crewperson approached the Mini-Neko (who, of course, instinctively took several steps backward), staring directly at the latter with eyes that were the sickly milk-white of those devoid of any soul - or life - whatsoever. What...this...this cannot be happening! Not even a Parasite could last this long in hard vacuum!

It was at that moment the Taii (via her PA's audio sensors) heard a second series of cracks announcing the "awakening" of a Nekovalkyrja - followed by a third. A forth. A fifth. Oh, no...Empress, protect me......

Her features by now very, very pale, the mind of the Takamagahara's Executive Officer frantically raced, trying to re-establish some semblance of control over the rapidly-escalating situation. "Contacts, all directions! Charlie, Delta, form a defensive perimeter at my location" - a pause as Hitomi marked said location on the squad's AIES - "now! Bravo, give cover to Alpha in the...Damage Control Center!" Wait a bloody minute! These...things only started moving after the MEGAMI was reactivated, and a Kyoto-class has a complement of over eighty-six thousand sprites, meaning...

The NH-33M Mini-Nekovalkyrja scowled (......Those FOOLS!) and, in an especially frosty tone, snarled "All units, do not engage, I say again, do not engage unless attacked!" over the radio - then turned to face the crewmember still shambling its way towards her. "Security override Kilo-Yamatai-5-1-4! MEGAMI of the YSS Kishi Maru, I hereby order you to stand down on my authority as Taii Nakadai Hitomi, First Officer of the YSS Takamagahara, a Sharie-class Battleship in the Star Army of Yamatai's Tenth Standard Fleet!"

That said, Hitomi sent a withering message to the rest of Alpha Team (the Amaterasu twins and Miiko) over the aforementioned "team's" private channel, her voice the deceptively mild - conversational, even - tone of someone extraordinarily pissed.

"Amaterasu-Hei, Uehara-Heisho...would you please enlighten me as to why the two of you are incompetent enough to have triggered the MEGAMI's self-defense mechanisms in performing the extremely simple task of bringing it back online? Or, Uehara-Heisho......is it because you enjoy putting others in harm's way?"

YSS Kishi Maru - Passage

"Authorization accepted. Internal security overridden" the voice of the partially rebooted MEGAMI said through crackly speakers. But, the nekopopsickle did not immediatly drop, but rather took a lurching step forward, reached out with it's arms and launched it's self at Hitomi, colliding with the XO's SYLPH, knocking her to the deckas it started pulling at the armored chestplate, as if to try and tear it off of the armor suit.

YSS Kishi Maru - Damage Control

Similarly, the untill recently frozon solid pair of nekos in DCC with the engineers moved, advancing on the team with alarming speed. Just before they moved, Miiko did getaglanceat the internalsecurity systems status, which had not been triggered. Whatever was going on, the ship's AI was not causing it.

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

As soon as Atago hit the trigger the battleship's vast battery of weaponry spoke. Blasts of energy lancing out across space, vaporizing mines ina brilliant display of light and flame that spread around the wrecked fleet. As mines explodedand blew themselves apart, a blast of pink-white aether energy burned across the cold depths of space and struck the Takamagahara's starboard shields, overloading the protective bubble and causing the entire starboard deflector arc to fail.

The ship rocked an instant lateras something physically collided with the hull. The jolt sending Momoe tumbling from her command chair.

"Evasive! Get our good shield arcbetween us and whatever that hostile is!" the captain commanded as she picked herself up off the deck and floated back to the command chair.

The battleship rotated, imposing her arc just in good shield time as a second aether blast came in and was deflected. Atago's tactical sensors saw it, the blast had come from one of the partially destroyed Sakura class ships!

YSS Takamagahara - Lower levels passage, starboard side

The physical impact on the battleship's hull had sent Yoshimi tumbling across the smooth polished deck just tin time to avoid the large metal spike that drove it's self through the side of the hull, structure and the passage wall just feet from where Yoshimi and fellow infantry mini neko Miyoko had been patrolling.

Yoshimi was lucky and judt got a bump to her head. Miyoko on the other hand was not, only her tiny boots sticking out from under a fallen support beam told of her cruel fate.

The tip of the spike seemed to unscrew, then fold open. A stench almost of rotting flesh filled the air and somethibg slithered out of the now opened cone, a worm like thing, slimy and quickly slithering towards Yoshimi!

YSS Kishi Maru, Passage

Hitomi grunted as she was suddenly knocked onto her back - just as the Maru's MEGAMI acknowledged her override. Which means......

Then the surprisingly-lively Neko began clawing at the Yamataium-imbued armor of her Sylph. ......oh, bloody hell! Get off!

Among the many advantages of being encased in a suit of powered armor were that its extremities (provided, of course, its operator didn't reflexively open them) usually would not open after suddenly impacting another surface, thereby meaning that with a single flip of her - and thus the Sylph's - wrists, the Taii was able to neatly bisect her attacker into several smaller pieces, the blue-white blades of her swords slicingsizzling through flesh and bone like, well, a hot knife through butter. "WEAPONS FREE!" CFS, active.

Code:
Acknowledged.

CombiFieldSys......ACTIVE

With a nearly-subsonic thrummmmmm, the Takamagahara's XO activated her PA's Ke-M4-P2902 Wing Pack, taking full advantage of the CFS field that sprung up a moment later to jump to her feet, floating a handful of centimeters above the deckplate and, as the similarly-armored forms of the Away Team's infantry detachment began approaching her, sent a brief message back to the Takamagahara as she scanned for any further threats -

TO: TAKAMAGAHARA
FROM: ALPHA[ACTUAL]

***BEGIN MESSAGE***

SHOSA,

UNDER ATTACK BY UNKNOWN ENEMY CONTROLLING BODIES OF KISHI MARU CREW. NO CASUALTIES THUS FAR. WILL UPDATE AS NEED BE.

***END MESSAGE***

- only to frown as she spotted none in the immediate vicinity of the corridor, the Mini-Neko having sworn she'd heard more of the things nearby..........

Between the MEGAMI read-out that Miiko had access to over Amaterasu-Hei's shoulder, and the failed stand down command from the XO, Miiko had little by way of regrets as she commanded her Sylph's AIES to start up her CFS and squeezed the trigger sending a torrent of high velocity rounds into the chest of the right most 'zombie Neko.' By her logic these were most likely NMX parasites, and if they weren't she could write them all apology cards when they restored an ST backup later.

"Sorry I was trigger happy."
Would go well with a box of chocolates.

Focused on keeping her subordinate safe from the immediate thread Miiko hoped that the more outgoing of the sisters would have her back quickly, after all it would be in their best interest to secure the console access so that they might be able to get the ship to a point where she could defend herself from the invading threat. That way at least they wouldn't have to worry about whatever these not-quite-Neko were and Miiko could cheerfully go about her day a few magazines lighter.

YSS Takamagahara - Lower levels passage, starboard side

Yoshimi didn't seem perturbed much as a grin grew across her face. Though her little patrol buddy was now fatally more compact than they she already was, Yoshimi would make sure to bring her boots to her backup later. For now, the fun begins.

Yoshimi hopped back up to her feet and began sprinting towards the slithering intruder. Before they were within an mini-arms length away, she jumped up and over the parasite and reached at the tail, grabbing just enough to get a solid grip with both hands. As soon as her boots touched the deck she spun the parasite overheard like a flail, definitely not wanting to let go of it.

"I've got your friend, you little slugs!"

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

Momoe herself was almost thrown out of her chair as the ship rocked itself, but her trusty drone moved in to stop the fall. Which meant she bonked her head against it. Luckily hitting your head against something hard, was not a problem when you were a neko. Drone stopping the fall meant, that Atago did not have to waste time getting up and taking her console again.

"Starboard shields are down ma'am!" Atago replied as her fingers danced. "We were fired upon from one the damaged Sakura-class. I read aether energy, it was likely the ships Shock Cannon. Targeting the ship back!"

Since the Takamagahara was moving to offer its portside shields, it mean that Atago could not use the Main Weapon Array, but that was not ideal anyway since, she needed precision and not absolute destruction of everything in front of the ship. Instead she activated the superheavy turrets and aimed them at the Sakura-class. All avalaible but four which she pointed at the 2nd damaged Sakura-class.

"Target acquired!" Atago reported to captain.

YSS Kishi Maru - Passage

The attacker was done for, cut to pieces at Hitomi's feet, the gore lit eerily by the glow of her aether blade. Even though the nekopopsickle was dead, something int he mess still moved, catching the XO's eyes. A tubular shape, a mishhu parasite, or what was left of one, wiggling it's way out of the corps.

"We have more company" one of the infantry with her reported, pointing at a shambling mass making their way slowly towards them from farther down the passage.

YSS Kishi Maru - Damage Control

Miiko quickly cut down the zombie nekos with her well aimed fire. But already several more of the dead eyed creatures were crawling their way in through the open hatchway to the passage beyond. One of them got a hold of one of the Amaterasu sisters SYLPH's right foot and started biting it, trying to chew it's way through the armored joint that connected it to the rest of the armor.

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

"Blast it to pieces!" Momoe commanded as she scrambled off of the deck and floated back up to her command chair. "And shoot down anything else that get's within three thousand meters of the ship" she added and set her peaked cap back atop her tiny head.

YSS Takamagahara - Starboard lower level passage

The parasite was slimy and slipped from Yoshimi's grasp and flew through the air. With a wet thud, it collided with the wall and slid down to the deck, leaving a slimy trail in it's wake. Even as it slid down, it seemed to roll and squirm around, then shot back at Yoshimi, it's maw gaping open as if to try and snap up a chunk of the little infantry neko if it made contact!

YSS Takamagahara - Bridge

"Yes ma'am!" Atago said, the lock on was triggered and she could see the damaged Plumeria floating in the space. "Firing!" Atago said and 'pressed the trigger'. Dozen of super heavy cannon turrets situated both on top and under the hull fired at once. Atago wanted that target gone for sure.

"Yeehaw," proclaimed the little nekoes drone as everyone could see the energy projectiles flying at the distant target. Atago jsut frowned and bonked the drone.
