Ketsurui no Iori, Yamatai--Some of the Star Army's oldest field foods will soon no longer be on the menu. Ketsurui Fleet Yards announced that it was halting production of the Type 29 Field Rations. The rations came in canned and vaccuum-packed varieties and had a wide range of available foods, but have been increasingly disused due to the advent of newer ration types like the simpler Type 30 Field Station, The old-school Type 31 Field Rations, and the newer Type 38 Field Ration, which includes a chemical heater. "Our focus has always been on starships and starship accessories," said KFY spokeperson Han Eun-hwa. "Making rations to put on ships was a tangent that put us in the complex food industry, which is not our area of interest. We did it because the Star Army needed it at the time, but now there are other rations and food distributors available and, with the war over, this gives us our chance to exit the food industry without disrupting the Star Army's military logistics."
At the same time, the Star Army officially discontinued the Type 30 and Type 31 rations. The Type 30 was a MRE-style plastic pouch ration that is being superseded by the Type 38, while the Type 31 was a ration so basic that it could be, and was, made at home by everyday citizens and school children. But most of them were made on Hanako's World, which fell to the Kuvexians in YE 41 and has not been reclaimed by the Yamatai Star Empire.
The announcement leaves the Type 38 ration as the sole type of ration in current use by the Star Army of Yamatai. "We are always seeking to improve our resources," Taisho Kawahara Opal, Director of Star Army Logistics, told SANDRA. "We are reviewing suggestions from soldiers for rations such as adding menus from the older rations into the current menu selection, and possibly adding a dessert to the Type 38."
