I've been looking for a proper RPG forum to get back into PbP RPG. I stumbled on this place after I went to Thar Shaddin to join them and I noticed that they had closed down. By contrast, this website looks to be running like a well-oiled machine, so I'm glad to be here. I'm a considerable fan of Star Trek and played Star Trek Online for awhile, so sci-fi RPG is a cool enough jam.
I'm going to be honest and say that the last PbP RPG I've played was in 2016, and that's almost 9 years ago now. Yikes! That was Bionicle RPG, so I'm going to beg for time to get up to speed. I'm generally familiar with RPG basics like IC and OOC and not metagaming or godmodding. Looking through Roleplaying on Star Army Space Roleplay reminded me of the conflict resolution and discussions I used to have back in the day. Anyway, enough nostalgia, you're here for my answers to the intro questions.
I answer to linux, linux.poet, Sarah (RL first name) and I will accept LP as an abbreviation for convenience. Yes, I do have a linux machine (though I do not always use it as the admins have already found out, I like to keep it focused on my programming projects) and yes, I have published poetry and do write it.
Do you prefer:
Playing male, female, or other-gendered characters?
Male characters are the most fun to play for me personally. But I prefer to design my characters to fit the RP and what I think will work the best without godmodding. If I think that female will be the best, I will play that.
Spontaneous or planned RP?
Planned. I like RPGs with an involved storyline where the GM has thought about where they want the story to go. Random free-for-alls can get aimless and boring; I like playing events where the GMs intervene to advance the plot.
Military or civilian characters?
Depends on the RP, but I lean toward military as I like getting characters into fights. Conversation is part of the deal, but solving mysteries and fighting is more fun.
Humans, androids, anthros, or aliens?
Androids seem the best, as Bionicle characters are similar to androids (but not the same, as any hardcore fan can tell you). Not sure what an anthro is, need to do my reading. I plan on having multiple characters and experimenting.
The benefits I see to the android characters is that there is less sex to deal with and they can be repaired if the right materials and expertise are available.
Being on a starship or being on a planet?
Starship. A character who is a captain of a starship will always have advantages over a planet dweller. Maybe I need to be proven wrong on that, but that's what I think right now.
Roleplay via forum posts or in real-time?
Forum posts. I like having time to think over my responses to characters and situations. Especially since I'm re-getting back into the ropes, having time to look things up will be important to avoid mistakes.
Other than that, I have an English degree and it is easier for me to write RP forum posts than to play a video game. Strange but true.
On a scale of 1 to 3, what's your preferred level of these in your RP:
Anyway, thanks for reading. If you have any RPs I should aspire to join, feel free to reach out. I will be reading the open RPs and deciding which to join tomorrow, basically reading my way so I understand this world and don't make some huge world bending violation. I like having a plan and balancing action with reading when dealing with online forums, as I have for 14 years.

On a scale of 1 to 3, what's your preferred level of these in your RP:
- Language: 2 - most profanity is okay but if characters don't have another vocabulary, I'm going to find it annoying. Obviously if your ship is getting destroyed, though, cursing out your foe is a thing I understand.
- Violence: 3 - red alert starship battles, weapons, ugly deaths, sure. Welcome to space.
- Sexuality: 1 - don't invite me to the space brothel RP. Sometimes it's a thing, and it needs to be written, and I will write it when it is. But I don't like it.
