Closed I propose a idea: non power armored units should be allowed to use and make teir 4 weapons.

Given the state of the wiki and lack of a proper if any hard ruling on things I propose an idea. Non power armored infantry can use weapons up to tier 4, I have a couple reasons for this and in a moment, I'm going to go over them with you all.

the statement "It's too powerful for an infantry man to have one." This doesn't really hold up well as an excuse, often doweled out as an excuse by older members and game masters. Yet a quick search threw the wiki you will find a varying degree of weapons that not only meet tier 4 (anti light power armor but sometimes exceed that). The Mutagenic Assault weapon and the lepra are some examples of this, the MAW, for instance is a teir 5 (anti medium power armor) weapon made by the star army and non-power armor infantry can use it without issue. and the Rythankins have a teir 4 pistol that you don't need power armor because "its anti-matter."

Another reason as stated above is no one seems to ever want to fallow the teir 4 or higher is limited to power armor due to rule of cool or some reason. and when you bring it up to them their cookie cutter response it "its sci fi, the calibers and stuff don't make sense that's just how it is." but such a statement interferes with what they said above. So either there's really a rule that states that or its a opinion that is chosen to be followed by certain people and not for others.

So, with the fallowing examples showing that there's either a lack of understanding how to treat the ruling when it comes to sci vs convential or semi realistic weapons. or due to wanting to do the rule of cool, the tier four weapon types being used by non-power armored individuals is a touchy subject so to solve headaches i think non power armored individuals should be able to have infantry weapons of at maximum tier 4 weapons. to not only solve this problem and put it to bed but also allow people in character who may play independents to still have a fighting chance when they can't afford power armor.

To me the thing is in terms of RL weapons, 20mm is not an anti armor weapon. That’s still anti aircraft (modern small aircraft are not mecha tier) and anti soft vehicle. We don’t use it against armored vehicles. That’s what 30mm is for. That’s kinda the dubious line between 3 and 4. Tier 3 is very wide. Much broader than one or two. It’s everything from big game rifles to light anti materiel rounds like 50bmg up to and possibly including a heavier anti materiel round like a 20mm. And 20mm wont necessarily one shot a soft vehicle which is low armor tier like 4 or 5. That’s what tier a weapon is. What it can one shot fairly reliably with a solid hit. Does a .50 API sometimes penetrate the armor of a relatively hardened vehicle? Yes. And there’s cool smoke that comes out when it does. Does it usually stop them completely without unloading at least a few into it? Not likely. And that’s the difference. I will admit I like the idea of someone heroically lifting a 20mm to take a last ditch shot at a swooping PA but that’s not something that would be issued normally. It’s a climax. That’s why I keep bringing up stuff like LAW and AT4 is the real infantry way to deal with that stuff.

normally id agree with you on the matter but the pistol (or rifle as frost states.) is a chemrail. aka rail assisted chemical firearm two stage ammo

Neko, trolls, lorr, senti, that one kind of lorath, and especially ID-SOL have the capabilities to actively carry or weild these weapons without power armor and with limited repercussions except for maybe the Neko where they might be able to lift and fire a big gun but physics would toss an 85-pound girl like a leaf in the wind onto her butt.

There are also some weapons like the nep scout canon which while being a PA-grade sniper can be fired prone by daring neps.

Please remember I've put literally thousands of rounds through these systems, often against actual live targets in theater. I am well acquainted with the capabilities of the US weapons inventory to a degree that I assure you, not even Char is familiar.

Yeah, ill give ye that one! I can count the number of times i've handled anything above 7.62 (308. for the layman, not 7.62x39) on both hands and maybe one of my footsies toes at most~

Also I saw mechs mentioned as a reasoning in passing. Mecha is more common in this setting than mechs. With, I think, Only Shasta Corp really fielding them and not really many of them since I stopped working on them years ago due to taking over Nep and then after that losing my motivation to touch the wiki. And they are so low-quality manufactured that tbh if you can survive the radiation-induced super cancer of one being near you it can prob be killed by a particularly airworthy stone or just getting its barely forklift-certified pilot to knock over his beer onto the control console and causing it to explode!

Based on the community's votes, I've decided to not implement this suggestion as it appears not to popular among the community as a whole.

Therefore, the rule is that Tier 4+ weapons are not something a regular person can fire like a gun.

There are still large shoulder-fired missile launchers like the SLAM though: Shoulder-Fired Launcher, Anti-Armor Missile, Type 30 on Star Army Space Roleplay
