SET: NH-X5-01 Formerly Taiie no Iori

The Iori had been towed back to Taiie IV, and placed in orbit. Life support was about the only system on the station that was fully operational, emergency lighting poorly lit the debris clogged corridors. The survivors had long since been sent back to the fleet and the standing order was that they were to be on leave.

Katsuko walked down the corridor, her eyes ahead of her, almost as if to ignore the remains of several of her finest outside of her former office doors. An investigation into the incident was underway; once again the bureaucrats back home would require their answers—want to know what happened to their hardware. The emotional toll of a Taisho was but trivial in such matters, as that the tears held back within her gaze didn't matter to SARA or Command—only to her.

Her cool silver eyes scanned the body of Ushiba Matsu, she thought to herself; Good Morning Nitô Heisho, you look tired this morning. Her bottom lip quivered as she bit down upon it to hold it steady. She continued thru the offices, stopping just inside of Yukari's office. She knelt down shifting some debris to the side. She picked up the Yama-momiji Bonsai she cherished so much, most of its leaves were off but it seemed to have survived. She carried it with her thru the jammed open doors to her former office.

She set the bonsai down on her desk, and knelt down to pick up the flag of the 5th Expeditionary Fleet that had been knocked over, she unhooked it carefully from its pole, and folded it almost ceremonially. She then tucked the flag under her arm, picked up the bonsai and made her way out of her office.

She walked down the corridors, until she arrived at her suite. The doors open as she had left it. The air was stale and was tainted with the beginnings of decay. As she expected, upon reaching her former bedroom. The body of Akina lay upon the bed-with the Taisho's knife in her mouth. Katsuko set down the bonsai and the flag on the end of the bed, and sat upon the right edge, looking into the empty eyes of the former Taisa Shimizu.

Katsuko clutched the blankets upon the bed; she let out a cry of grief. But there was no response-no encouraging words-no sweet nothings of the love they had shared. Only the emptiness of death remained. Death was heavy in the air, and Katsuko breathed it in by the lung full. She wiped the tears from her eyes, and picked up the blue plush teddy with the pink ribbon, that she had given Akina upon her arrival to the fleet and tucked it beneath the cold Shimizu's arms.

Sleep well love...

She picked up her bonsai and the flag and exited her room. She ran thru the corridors back to her shuttle, and ordered the pilot to return her to the Munin.
