RP: Section 6 Jack, you're an uncle!

スター軍の司書
Section 6, Advanced R&D Lab

Music of a time lost to that flowed across the lab, lilting voices singing in human voices and ancient words with no meaning. At least none that could be heard for someone who spoke Trade. A brunette with green eyes tapped on a keyboard as her feet hung off a workbench and a sandwich hung out her mouth as she scrolled through information on the screen in front of her.

Sarah was sitting on the floor against the workbench a ration bar in hand as she chewed looking bored.

Jack enters the room and looks at the two, "Alright, so why of all people is Carl telling me I need to check on you? Sarah why are you eating one of Rose's ration bars. You guys switch lunches, or something by accident today." Jack said confused before looking to Rose getting a weird sense. As he looked at Rose however, something wasn't adding up, but what he could not say.

"Sandwich is delicious." Rose replied. "And it was closer. Sarah, you were looking a little green this morning, you sure a ration bar's the best lunch?"

"Says the one who actually hurled this morning. Actually I'm not sure why I started eating this. Kinda craving it to be honest." Sarah said with a shrug as she took another bite.

Jack was beginning to get a very unsettling feeling, because something was very wrong here. He walked a little closer to Rose and to the side a bit, bringing the sandwich into perfect view, not believing what he was hearing.

"Rose since when have you thought real food delicious. I must be having a different nightmare than normal. Seriously, what the hell is going on with you two?" Jack said as his face lost all of it's neutrality, instead being replaced with utter dumbfoundness.

"Your sister must be good for me." Placing the sandwich off to one side, Rose picked up a green object from her other side. Some fluid spurted from the pickle as she bit down on it, her eyes widening momentarily in surprise before she smiled. "This would taste really good dipped in peanut butter. Or chocolate sauce."

"What the fuck?" Jack said slowly as a he was really feeling like he was in some sort of twisted reversed world you only got in a deep dream. He ran an optical scan, and what it revealed made him step back in both shock and confusion, "By the fucking void you're both pregnant. What.....no no....fucking hell, how did you even accomplish that?!"

"What were those little purple pills, Sarah? I can't remember the name of the stuff, but it was awesome." Rose set the laptop down and hopped off the workbench, stretching a bit. At least until the realization hit. "Wait, pregnant?"

Sarah stopped and looked at the ration bar in a kind of dazed manner, "Oh that pack of Kaserine purple? Yeah, that name is kinda a mouth full huh." she replied before giving a slight chuckle.

Jack looked at Sarah in horror, "The fuck......purple, why the hell did you even have that? Does Beaumont know about this? How long has these symptoms been going on?......Wait. OH GOD I'M GOING TO BE AN UNCLE! First I have no family, and now I keep getting family members in every crazy ass possible manner. What god did I piss off for this to happen?!" he he ranted slightly as his mind could not process this right now.

Rose stopped, looking wide eyed at Jack for a moment before looking at Sarah through his rant, and for some reason, her mind latched onto the part where he wondered what god he pissed off, and her eyes welled with tears. "I... I thought you would be happy if we ever..."

"Wait what no. This shouldn't be possible, biologically, and both pregnant? I don't understand, how did this happen." Jack said stuttering as his hands gripped the sides of his head as his mind reeled.

Sarah stood up lazily and put one arm around Rose, "Damn Jack, get over yourself baby brother, We had fun, though this would explain why I've been feeling weird the last couple days. I don't see what the big deal is, when a Rose and Sarah love each other very much......" Sarah trailed off as she started to kinda slump against Rose looking groggy.

Rose's tears turned to concern as Sarah's weight settled on her shoulders. "Sweetie, you okay? I mean, if it's both of us I think that explains why I was kinda craving sugar and might have gotten into your Yamataian sweets..."

Jack gained his sanity back for the moment as Sarah began to give, "Oh shit, hey this is not the place to sleep on people." he said as he caught Sarah. Jack struggled at first with the sudden shift of weight before he steadied himself before moving Sarah to the cot the was under the workbench. Sarah began to curl up as she hit the bed, snoring softly.

"Alright, take this from the top Rose, what exactly did you two do to both get pregnant?" Jack asked calmly even has his heartbeat and likely his blood pressure were both elevated.

"Well, I made her breakfast about a week or so ago and we ended up having sex on the living room floor and she popped a kaserine while I was eating her out and she kinda choked me with the sudden penis and then we fucked... Repeatedly." Rose pulled the cot with Sarah on it out far enough for her to sit down. "I think we went through the entire pack of Kaserine in two days."

Jack looked at he shocked, "I would have asked for less detail, but too late. By the void......how do you do an entire pack of purple.....in two days? Wait no, don't tell me. OK... so we really need to do something." Jack said rubbing his face as he finished.

Rose looked up from her seat, one hand idly petting Sarah's hair. "What do we need to do? Oh, pickle!"

She had looked up to Jack and spotted her mostly finished lunch on the work bench. "You need to pass it."

Jack snapped his fingers, "Hey this is serious. You two gotta be ready for this. Your both mothers now." he said trying to get her focused.

"Not for another eight and a half months. Now gimme that damn pickle!"

"I'm not religous, but that statement makes me want to start praying." Jack said looking disappointed.

Aster seemed to be in her own little world, in another part of the lab, her headphones in and music up, as she inventoried a cabinet of lab supplies, blissfully unaware of whatever her boss was upset about.

"I'm busy petting your sister's hair. I'm as ready as I'll ever be and then I gotta get our interns off of inventory and put a wrench in their hands."

Jack gave an exasperated sigh before walking over to Aster and pulling the headphones off, "Hey, get a box of pickles for Rose, and wrench. Immediately both Rose and Sarah are on vacation. Now help me deal with this."

Aster looked at Jack curiously. "HAI!" She smiled brightly and ran off to the break room to find a jar of pickles for Rose. After a few minutes, she returned and placed the jar in front of Rose, "Dozo." And then pulled a wrench from one of the toolboxes, before she came to a stop in front of Jack. "Ready! What do you need me to help with? They seem like they got pretty pregnant on their own." She tilted her head at him oddly.

"I'm at most a few weeks along! And I want that pickle." She pointed forcefully at the plate on her workbench. "Not those. That vilgehk one."

"Yeah......Just make them comfortable,......wait. How do you know they're pregnant?" Jack said giving her a confused look as he rubbed the bridge of his nose.

"I've lived in an enclosed communial living situation with mostly women for all of my life. They have been doing weird pregnancy food craving stuff for a bit and acting... weirder than normal," Aster shrugged. "How does the wrench help make them comfortable?"

"Vacation?!" Rose stood, suddenly, annoyed that Jack had even thought about sending her elsewhere. Though it would soon be clear that the two of them had very different definitions for the word. "I want to keep working here and I'd really rather not have you sell me because you have this idea in your head that pregnant me isn't useful. I will prove you wrong on that front! Not only that, but I'm not for sale! What the fuck?!"

"Rose. What the hell are you talking about? You know, vacation, like when you take time off of work to relax. I know I wish I could take one myself. Your not allowed to do any field work, and are only allowed to do light lab work. Either stay here, or stay at the house with Sarah. She is also ordered to go on vacation. I don't need my pregnant sister running around battlefields putting her and child at risk. Also, Beaumont will be doing a mandatory check up on the both of you. Now, any questions? And Aster, the wrench is not for them to be comfortable, but for you to do the things she can't right now, but I also want you to make sure they are both relaxed and not straining themselves." Jack explained with a raised eyebrow.

"You and I have very different definitions of that word. But I'm still fit for the same kinda heavy lifting I always do." Rose's eye twitched slightly as she filed that away as another thing she had to figure out in her head.

"Like hell you are! You are pregnant. You should not be "heavy lifting", it's bad for the baby. Alright, I'm just trying to make sure you and the babies remain ok." Jack said with the sudden urge to tear out his own hair.

"Beaumont!" Rose called, grabbing the jar off her workbench before popping it open. "I'm gonna keep working because me working is how I relax. You know this!"

"You're going to have to lock them in a room to stop them from doing work, Mr, Pine. But tell me what I need to do to help," Aster shrugged. "Yamataians and nekovalkryja usually work all the way through a pregnancy, so I don't see the big deal. I wouldn't recommend the combat part though." She held the wrench in her hands as she looked at Jack expectantly. "You're a combat veteran, why does this freak you out, Mr. Pine? They are just pregnant."

"Because they are both women, and I'm used to Nepleslian culture, where women getting each other pregnant is abnormal. Not even a year on this planet and already four kids, and now I'm an uncle. Weird going from being an orphan to having such a large family, as I'm just not prepared for this. Also, Yamataians are usually enhanced, and well. Rose and Sarah are not." Jack explained rubbing his temples.

Aster tilted her head at him. "But Neplesians clone? I also though Kaserine was a Nepleslian invention, most nekovalkryja don't need it?" She seemed to roll the idea around in her head. "Shoujo ai is normal for me, I guess?" She shrugged and gently tugged his sleeve. "What did you need me to do, Mr. Pine?"

"I'm still fuzzy on what Kaserine is, other than that it's fun and can apparently let Sarah and myself have kids... Which we're both way too fucked up of people to be proper parents. I'll try. But I'm not going on maternity leave till Beaumont orders it. Aster, what's on the slate for tests today? Another Starfire test?"

"Basically lift things for them, make sure they don't do anything rash, and alert me if anything happens that might be of concern.......Wait, starfire? Doesn't that give off radiation?" Jack said pausing at the last part as his head began running through scenarios.

"Dammit Rose, NO! You will not be near that test. Any test you have on that list that requires protective gear is a no! Others will handle it. I will not have my family put in danger, because they want to be thick headed and selfish! You need to start thinking about protecting your children, as that is step one of good parenting!" Jack said irately as she wasn't getting the point, and he already had to worry about so many others, that he did not need more to worry about.

"Preliminary data shows no chance of fallout, though the shock-wave's gonna be nasty. And this is not the first time we've set one off! If I was gonna be irradiated it would have happened at the last test, and I still use that rad tag." Rose crossed her arms, setting the jar down. "I won't do anything that requires protective gear, but I'd like to go out and do some field work before I get too big, and frankly, I'd also like to check out the vek pit to see if any of that infrastructure's still viable. I'm... I'm glad to know my soon to be brother in law cares, but c'mon, man!"

"What Vek pit? And field work within reason. I want to asked first before hand. And yes, I care very much for my soon to be sister in law. I already have to worry about others, I don't need my sisters added to that list." Jack said momentarily distracted by the mention of a pit before returning to the topic at hand.

"The old Vekimen mining operation outside of Osman. They pulled out last year, and the mining infrastructure should be still there. Jack, I'll be fine. I always am when I'm not in combat. I'll even get fitted for a new Revenant and go in under ECS just in case." A little bit of the puppy eyes should work better in the new, cuter form as she clasped her hands and bounced on her toes. "Please, please don't pull me off the cutting edge!"

Jack let loose with a sigh of exasperation, "Fine, but only with an armed security team."

"So I don't get to shoot something with the starfire today? Or am I setting up the suits for the field test?" Aster tilted her head to one side glancing between Jack and Rose. "If they are wearing PA or exo-skeletons, heavy lifting shouldn't be a concern with the enhanced strength, weight distribution and the on board medical capabilities of the undersuite. It's like a full body brace that removes the stress of physical exertion. They are still too early in their pregnancy for new suits to be fitted or heavy lifting to harm them. Regular human gestation is longer than Yamataian or nekovalkryja."

"Eight and a half months. Yes, we're setting off nuclear railgun rounds today. The clean version." Rose's eyes glowed for a moment as she sent a search engine after that information. "And the little ones should be about the size of a lima bean at the moment. How the fuck did you catch that?"

Jack tapped next to his eyes, "Optical scan." he said simply.

"Yay! We have to wear protective gear anyway, it should be perfectly safe," Aster nodded, smiling brightly at Rose and Jack.

Rose thought for a moment, processing that little bit of information. "Almost as weird as my Bobby Gunson plushie."

"Why am I not surprised about a plushie of Bob being owned by you." Jack said with a hand to his face.

"You shouldn't be. Still, I'll take an armed escort out to the Vek pit, but I doubt they'll be necessary."

"Who's Bobby Gunson?" Aster asked the adults, spinning the wrench idly in her hands as she waited for direction. "Why would that be weird?"

"Bob is a Nepleslian who STed himself into the body of a Mishhu. He does....stuff....in the entertainment business." Jack said really unsure of how to explain that.

"You'll understand when you're older."

"That's pretty evasive and why would you do that? The Mishhu are... not fun," Aster shrugged.

"I have no plans on divulging to the fifteen year old the things that get my rocks off when Sarah's not around."

Enter Beaumont, the tin can with legs. Tucked under his arm is a bag of fast food he'd purchased from the Akemi's he had gone to before with Neera and the Ambassador and a large milkshake in the other hand (Though the taste is a bit off. Perhaps the milk is soy?). He's humming a small tune whilst passing through on his way over to his medical lab. There's a little pep in his step - though it may just be a good day for a change for him. Minimal work so far, a chance to get some food actually during his lunch break, he had enough money for all the cigs he puffs in a day. Good stuff. He wouldn't pay much mind to the conversation nearby, but he isn't very discreet as he passes through regardless of how loud their debacle has gotten - whatever it's about.

"Oh, there you are! Please tell Jack I don't have to be pulled off the standard line for another eight months!" Rose turned, waving to Beaumont, noting and filing away that the fast food from Akemi's smelled amazing, before wondering how she could smell that halfway across the lab.

Beaumont pauses to look over his shoulder, lifting his mask to take a sip of his milkshake. "Eight months?" He hums. "What would make him think that?" He stands just outside of his lab door at this point, and even turns on his heels to face her entirely. "And why do i have to tell him? Not like you can't tell him something." Knowing that it's rose, he could almost smell whatever shenanigans she may be up to, leaving him doubtful that whatever her response would be would be any good news for him.

"I'm pregnant, apparently. It's Sarah's. She is, too." Rose's shoulders drooped and she pouted, clearly annoyed that Jack's caring about her safety was getting in the way of her work, no matter how much she appreciated the sentiment. "So run me a test, put me under an MRI, do what you gotta do, but I wanna get back to working on mathematical models for microsingularity reactor tech and I'd really like to prove the existence of diagravitational materials by producing one and building a working reactor. Also we have to finish the Starfire tests, build up 188's mining infrastructure, and I gotta double check numbers on some of the ships... Please?"

Beaumont would pause. He would stare. He would imagine a tiny Rose and a tiny Sarah rushing about the room, annoying the medic before breaking something important - and then forcing him to clean up the mess. He had frozen where he stood. What one might call a "Nope alarm" had sprung to life in his head and wailed in his ear until he went deaf. There's a subtle twitch to his head as his mind wanders every which way in an attempt to address the situation. A pregnant Rose and Sarah too. Explains why she had asked him about the Purple pill not too long ago. "Ah." He forces an uncanny, tight-toothed smile that he speaks through, sounding not too different than when he wears the mask. "Congratulations." There's a pained undertone, overtone, and general tone to his voice. Of all things he wanted to deal with as a medic, the monitoring of a child's development and delivery was not on that list. He had completely forgotten her request, and was sort of staring into the abyss in despair.

"Are... Are you okay?" Rose had started tallying off the day's research tasks and running a research and development lab seemed to be popping out new tech or applications daily. "Beaumont?"

Aster looked between the adults. "Mr. Beaumont, I was just suggesting to Mr. Pine at this early in the pregnancy and in the base undersuite of the Revenants that, Sarah and Rose should be fine to do their work since the formation of the fetus is still not to the point of viability. Usually, the risk increases after the first 3 months but they are only just now pregnant."

This is the exact opposite of anything that Beaumont would have wanted to be the case. True, one case of pregnancy would be fine, but two? He puts the tips of one hand's metal fingers to his teeth, looking down and pondering every potential circumstance. "Well, here's what I have to say about the situation." He raises a finger from his maw. "For one... you both have jobs you have to do in Section 6. Preggo or not." Another finger. "Two, it's because you're both pregnant that you best look at things from the perspective of how things will impact the child. Right now, you're essentially a meat mecha and your kid is your pilot attached to the placenta and linked to your bloodstream. Everything you eat, everything you drink, everything you breathe will go into the child. Not only this, physical trauma is always a risk, and exposure to anything such as powerful radiation can affect the development." He grits his teeth. He won't be able to smoke in either person's presence. A loud sigh escapes him. "Did you even PLAN this ahead of time considering the nature of your workplace environments?"

"We did not. We kinda..." Rose looked down and away, absently reaching for a pickle. "I didn't know we were fertile in that form... I won't go near radiation and for some goddamn reason I'm craving everything but ration bars."

Great!" He throws his hands to the sky before dropping them to his thighs with a loud Whap sound. "I've gotta deal with two accident babies!"

"Permission to interject a gut feeling?" Rose blushed and raised her hand.

"Go ahead," He grunts. By now, he's rubbing his mask with his hands, fingers sliding to and from the crease in the middle as though it were the bridge of his nose. He's staring at the floor, completely lost as to what to do.

"I don't know if it's this weird connection thing, but... You might want to run an ultrasound in about two weeks. I have a feeling that there's more than two."

There would be the sound of a high-pitched squeal from some unknown source. It would be Beaumont. The sound of his internal screams escaping and entering this reality. There were a few choice words he had for this situation. None of them very clean but all of them accurate to his current mood. "Oh." He squeaks. "If you'll excuse me. I'll be in my office. I need a beer."

"It was her idea!" She pointed under her workbench, to where Sarah slept out of sight.

"That's one thing I'd suggest fixing before you become a mother, Rose." He grunts, pushing the door open. "It doesn't matter whose idea it was, now it's both of your responsibilities from here on out." He would enter his dimly lit office and close it behind him. In his chair he would prop himself, laying back and staring at the ceiling, muttering. He would reach around for the mini-fridge under his desk, hoping there'd still be some beer in there.

Aster raised an eyebrow as she watched the cyborg lose it and leave. "Are all the men in our company scared of pregnancy? Are we going to develop a pregnant vaccine?"

"Apparently." Rose's brows furrowed. "C'mon, get that grav lift over there. I kinda want to remove a mountain. I'll grab the railgun, you grab the rounds."

Jack walked out as well defeated by insurmountable stubbornness, "Beaumont! Please tell me you know a Psychiatrist, I need therapy, I can't deal with this. Scratch that, I need a drink."

"Sorry, I don't have any external references!" He shouts from his office. "Just break out the bottle you'll be fine!"

"You guys don't want to help us test the starfire in the rail gun configuration?! I thought were supposed to have a supervisor and a doctor present for safety reasons. Or are we doing a Rose override to maintain the integrity of the experiment?" Aster watched Jack leave and went to grab the starfire rounds and the grav lift so they could start working now that the distraction was done. "They are just pregnant... geesh.. there are weirder things going on in this building... this is the most normal thing."

The medic would sigh and open his door. His mask would be visible behind the resulting crack, his outer shell a glimmer against the lights of the rest of the lab. "It's not the pregnancy that's irritating us. It's having to work that into our operation. We're understaffed as is, and having two of our higher ups out of the line means that others will have to deal with their positions in their absence. Not only this, anything harmful such as smoking or being in the presence of anything radioactive could greatly harm the child's development."

"We have containment suits for all of that though. Regular protective equipment. They should be okay to function as normal for several months," Aster replied.

"I'm not asking if they're okay with taking that risk. I'm asking if they're okay with their child taking that risk." His voice would become serious. "It's common sense when in a high risk job such as this that every stage of development be taken into consideration. Bulge in the belly or not, there's still something else in there. Something alive that can't exactly speak for itself right now."

"They are not the sort to stay on bedrest or confined to quarters," Aster seemed rather confused by Beaumont and Jack's attitudes. "Is it really that different for Nepleslians than Yamataians? I mean, elves have 1 year gestation period and nekovalkryjra have a 3 months.. I think Minikins are also down to 3 months... Geshrins have what, a 6 month window?"
