An extremely weak radio signal was picked up by a Yamataian sensor probe in the outer fringes of the Anisa system. The signal was so degraded that its message might have been dismissed as white noise, were it not for the fact that the probe's AI knew specific algorithms that existed for the sole purpose of detecting the message being transmitted.

Bleep… Bleep… Bleep bleep… Bleep bleep bleep… Bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep…

In rapid, monotone bleeps, the message carried the first 8 numbers of the Fibonacci sequence.

After the sensor probe patiently recorded the 8 numbers, it was rewarded with another 64 numbers, transmitted in the same manner. The radio signal then began to repeat this same series of 72 numbers, over and over again.

The 64 numbers that were not part of the mathematical sequence seemed random at first glance. If the numbers were fed into moderately advanced pattern recognition programs, however, their meaning would become clear.

The ratio of the numbers were the same as the ratio of distances to some of the brightest stars that could be observed in nearby space, all measured starting from one point in space. A star system rested in that point in space, a system about 30 light-years away from Anisa that had yet to be explored by the Star Army.

It appeared that, some 30 years ago, someone was saying "hello".
